Cece! Even thoug I'm not anything like you (32, south brazillian, jewish, straight, fat, poliglote, biology teacher), I identify so much with you and the content you bring to your channel! I'm so glad to have found it this year. I love Buffy and Supernatural stuff (#teenageyears) and apreciate the monthly recs A LOT. I read well in english but imported books are pretty expensive, so I try them on ebook or wait until they are published in portuguese. I have unshelved NOW "the upside of..." that I had on my TBR pile and will be looking into "The hate you give" and "station eleven" (already published here). I had a REALLY HARD time getting through the first The raven boys, but the second one is on my tbr pile as well. I'll give it a try sometime this year just because you (and a lot more people love it =S) mentioned it here. Have a wonderfull 2018, and see you soon. Anne.
I adore Station Eleven so I'm glad that made your list. I've rec'd it to just about everyone. I'm looking forward to reading A Conjuring of Light this year because that series has been incredible so far, I'll have to bump it further up my TBR!
So glad to see Station Eleven made the list! I also loved We are the Ants, can't wait to read his next book. It's one of my goals to read more comics/graphic novels in 2018, and Spell on Wheels is at the top of the list, thanks to your recommendation.
Me: Wild Beauty sounds good Cece: it features an entire latinx cast of characters Me: Okay sounding even better now Cece: Basically every woman in the family is bisexual Me: *immediately purchases novel on Amazon*
You really made me want to read The Raven Cycle, and I had absolutely no intention to read it before watching you talking about them so often!! I'll go add it to my wish-list now then, you won!
I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOUR ASSESSMENT OF THE UPSIDE OF UNREQUITED it covers the world that i live in better and more thoroughly than any other book i've read
My favourite series I read in completion this year was The Lunar Chronicles and The Young Elites Trilogy. And some of my other favourites are History is All Left Me by Adam Silver Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli The Names They Gave Us by Emery Lord Wild Beauty by Ann Marie Mclemore The Loneliest Girl in the Universe by Lauren James The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas The Gentlemans Guide to Vice and Virtue by McKenzie Lee Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu
my top 3 were The Upside of Unrequited, Turtles All The Way Down, and The Names They Gave Us. We Are The Ants was my favorite from last year. i need to reread it like yesterday because i love it so much. Your excitement about the raven cycle books is so contagious. i need to reread those too.
YES! I loved note worthy so much!! I picked it up because of you and I'm so happy I did because I love acapella and the representation is just amazing and so relatable!!
It's been a very long since I got to really read a book, but your channel has actually made me want to start again!! I only got around to reading Coffee Boy in 2017, but I hope to read a lot more in 2018,,
I got "A Darker Shade of Magic" on my kindle from that deal a little while ago which I'm actually pretty excited about, even though I don't like fantasy that much! I must say i was a bit shocked Juliet Takes a Breath was number 2! I knew you liked it but I didn't know that much lol it was one of my worst books of the year but I personally love following/watching other BookTubers with different opinions from me! :)
I finally finished THUG today and my god... so good!! I also laughed a lot! The Upside of Unrequited has been on my shelf for so long now! Should definitely pick it up in 2018!
Cece have you heard of The Foxhole court series by Nora Sakovic? I read them after finishing the raven cycle because i had to find somenthing similar and, although it wasn't quite like the raven cycle I really enjoyed the friendship! you should check them out!
I'm really shocked about your thoughts on "Station Eleven" given it has a plot-point very similiar to the one everyone objected to from "Me before You". You're 100% completely entitled to your own opinion, I'm just confused about whether you didn't see the harmful ablism or you didn't think it important enough to go on this summary given you usually mention those sorts of things
For me the top 3 would be 3. The Beast is an Animal 2. Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda 1. City of Heavenly Fire And omg as a Latin bi girl whose obsessed with practical magic (which the plot reminds me of) I need to read Wild Beauty
i know its not book related but could you do a star wars theory video? lol i just seen it and i love it...I'm a reylo fan lol. although i haven't forgiven him for the last film and i think he done too much to be turned good And i need a toy porg in my life is that what those bird things are called?
where do you find the time to read so much? how much time do you get to read in a day? im hoping to work on my time management to read more without burning myself out. thanks in advance (to anyone who answers)!
and i'm just starting to read darker shade of magic! I got it and then realised my mum had it too! Wish i'd known that i could have just borrowed it lol should have known she'd have it really she loves fantasy
I know that you really like witches and I thought you might like The Witches of New York by Ami McKay. It was the last book that I finished in 2017 and I thought it was interesting. It is historical fiction (so it may be up Janel's alley more than yours), but it follows 3 women in New York City in 1880. All 3 women are different and dynamic, one of them is queer. But I thought it was a really interesting look at what that time period was like for witchy women.
I've read some of these, but will be adding the rest to my TBR. They all sound so good and fun! Especially Note Worthy, omg, I'm SO excited to read that. Also, I just posted a video about my favorite TV shows of 2017 if anyone's interested :) I know it's a little different from the typical booktube content but my videos will be focused on all things fangirl-ish (books, films, tv, etc).
I love your reviews and always want to read any book you rave about, but I HAVE to disagree with you on Station Eleven. The ending was really cool and loved how everything came together, but I just didn't get so much of it and everything felt like it was filler??? I didn't understand the big focus on Arthur, felt bored by the Company, and it was not at all the book I was expecting. I'm glad you liked it so much tho! Good on you for that lol
wild beauty i need to buy just because of the cover lol i still basically need to buy all the books from 2017 on peoples lists to read in 2018 but there are so many good releases this year as well. Two i'm waiting for that will prob never get released? Night world strange fate book 10 by L j Smith ....have been waiting most of my life for this book, and George R R Martin next game of thrones book!!
Speaking of books that reflect on the negative impacts of post colonialism... i read a Book in my Asian American Sexuality and Gender class called Edinburgh (by Alexander Chang)....it was SO GOOD. It’s about a group of boys who go to a choir camp and one of them is Korean (I believe) and Gay and then one of his friends kills them self and...it’s just so good I can’t really say much more without spoiling it but. So moving. SO SAD though. And dark. But I loved it so much might have been my favorite book of the year
Also I'm currently about halfway through The Dream Thieves and absolutely loving it. The last chapter I was on had the most hilarious kissing scene i think I've ever read.
Okay, you convinced me to finally pick up The Raven Boys. Will also be buying Juliet Takes a Breath ASAP, sounds like a read that needs put in the hands of every straight, white female like myself.
Cece!

I have had "Wild Beauty" on my TBR forever, and have been wanting to read it for so long!!
So happy to see Spell on Wheels! That series is so good and deserves more love.

I read Station Eleven this year and loved it! And the Raven Cycle is EVERYTHING!!!!!
I’m digging your shirt. It’d be great as a shirtdress!
I love that Spell on Wheels is on your list! It was so good!
Cece have you heard of The Foxhole court series by Nora Sakovic? I read them after finishing the raven cycle because i had to find somenthing similar and, although it wasn't quite like the raven cycle I really enjoyed the friendship! you should check them out!
I agree about a Conjuring of light it was great
We had a couple of books in common! And then, of course, TRC was on my list for 2016

You should do a Raven Cycle Read-a-long because I need an excuse to re read them
Also I'm currently about halfway through The Dream Thieves and absolutely loving it. The last chapter I was on had the most hilarious kissing scene i think I've ever read.
I let myself get spoiled about that ship while watching you talk about the series

My copy is a paperback because I received it as an early review copy! I'm not sure if there is a paperback available, sorry.

I am RonanXAdam trash... And I am deeply in love with Ronan
I just started watching this but I’m already guessing #1 is going to be the entire Raven Cycle 😂
Okay, you convinced me to finally pick up The Raven Boys. Will also be buying Juliet Takes a Breath ASAP, sounds like a read that needs put in the hands of every straight, white female like myself.
Mostly gay and lesbian
Are you talking about me or the books? Because you're right either way.
