When I read the video title I was already thinking of House of Leaves by Danielewski... and then your 2nd recommendation sounds like a YA version of it. If you're interested House of Leaves isn't only a haunted house/found footage novel but has another storyline woven into it as well as footnotes of real and made up scources and typography to match the plot. Quite interested in picking up some of your recommendations:)
I don't know if you've heard of Radio Silence, but I think you would really enjoy it, I absolutely adored this book and I think it deserves so much more attention than it gets. It's about a teenage girl Frances who loves this podcast and draws a ton of fan art for it. Then she is contacted by the creator, who has kept their identity hidden, to see if she will make the official fan art. Shortly after that she finds out the creator is the shy boy next door and you probably think they are going to fall in love, they don't. They make a podcast. It's a great queer book and talks a lot about the stress of finding a good college and if college is worth it or not.

I'd recommend a book now that needs way more hype than it's getting. It's Only Human by J. D. Estrada. A paranormal fantasy in which (almost) every creature you can think of exists, but with a small or big twist to it. This goes for vampires and lycans to tree people, angels and God. Also the main character is chosen, but it is made very clear multiple times he isn't a chosen one. My fave twist was to the devil, I did not expect that and that is nearly impossible. I hardly ever get surprised in books, but this one got it. On top of this, the author also is a poet (and the poems I read, I really really liked), so we have gorgeously flowing and poetic writing. Just try it, the ebook is like 3-5 dollars. 😉☺
I'm currently reading Jane Unlimited. I stumbled on Amberlough the other day, and I'm curious, but I want more information before I add it to my tbr. I'd like to get a Jewish perspective on it, because it sounds like it's an alternate WWII, and so many of those stray into anti-semitic territory.
Ancillary Justice, by Ann Leckie. Great storytelling. One of the unique things about this book is that there is only one gender pronoun: she. Everyone is referred to as “her” or “she.” It takes a minute to get used to it, but after about one chapter I didn’t notice it at all, because I was so wrapped up in the story and the writing is just that good.
Hey Cece! Thanks for the recommendations! I need to ask, I noticed in some of your videos (wich I am binge watching the fast few days lol) the volume sometimes changes and goes down, and then it goes back up.. Any idea why this is happening?
I do appreciate the content you make. :) I don't go looking for LGBTQ books, but I can read it; as a general rule of thumb, if a book has any romance at all, (A) the relationship must have a basis besides vapid infatuation and (B) there has to be more to the plot than the relationship. All the books you described are new to me and sound interesting...my TBR list is approaching around 50, I think. So thanks, haha. Have you read *The Ocean At the End of the Lane* by Neil Gaiman. Classic Gaiman story-telling, childhood and the supernatural, but a unique addition. I don't know if this would be a spoiler, but.... you never learn the protagonist's name. I didn't realize that until I read an interview later, explaining the decision.
My most unique favorite book would have to be S, by J.J. Abrams and Doug Dorst. The "book" is really a bunch of marginalia and notes and things stuffed into the pages of another book 'The Ship of Theseus', which is a full standalone novel, if you want to just read it that way. But it revolves around the mysterious author of 'Ship of Theseus', trying to find out his/her identity, the identity of his/her enemies, and his/her role in a revolutionary war, and the people who want to prevent our marginal (heh) protagonists from finding these things out. I mean, a crucial plot point is literally just a napkin with a map written on it stuffed between the pages. It's amazing.
What did you think of the Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda (I'm calling it by its original name because I like its subtle pretentiousness) film trailer?
the most unique books i read this year was the assassin’s curse duology. it was so fun and so entertaining. plus its got lesbian princesses in the second book (-;
