OMG I feel like Wonder Woman was LIFE-CHANGING for so many people (especially girls!) and THAT PART IN THE WASTELAND. I WAS CRYING IN THE MOVIE THEATRE. And I still haven't read Windwitch because I just KNOW I'm gonna need more Aeduan x Iseult immediately and the third book keeps getting pushed back!
You're one of the only people I follow on booktube so I love that you love Red Rising and Pierce Brown! He's sooo nice to his fans, he's such a good guy. I just started Iron Gold and I look forward to when you get to it too!
I swear the Red Rising series does not get enough hype or attention and I’m so glad that you enjoyed it. Definitely going to check out some of these other books though, great vid :)
It’s totally random but I haven’t watched videos of you for so long and i’m surprised at how deep your voice is ? It’s beautiful haha i love hearing you talk about books ❤️
I bought The Fifth Season yesterday because it just seemed a nice book but now that I have heard you talking about it I am so excited to read it! I also bought The Traitor's Blade because you talked about it and i just finished and OH MAN (No man breaks the Rock y'all)
I totally geeked out when you mentioned Charlie Bowater! I’ve been a huge fan of her art for about 4 years and it’s so cool to see more people recognizing her work!
Oh man, Aeduan and Iseult. Their angst was fantastic in Windwitch. I have to agree though, there were not enough angsty couples this year. I dint have a good shipping year either. And that’s a problem. Hopefully this year will be better.
No joke, I just started reading Red Rising right before this video. I've never read the synopsis or watched a review. I saw it at my local library and thought "let's give this series a try". Now I am so pumped to read it!
The Red Rising Trilogy landed in so many of my categories for my 2017 Reading Survey. (I didn't do fave/least faves or awards) Also Eliza and her Monsters was a great one for me as well. The Diviners and Lair of Dreams ended up in some categories for me as well. I know you're on the fence about reading it for various reasons, but the series is a fantastic read. :)
We Are Okay is one of my favorite books from last year and of all time, it broke me and ripped my heart out and put it back in damaged and I was thankful for it.
I’m with you on the Enchantment of Ravens cover. I was really disappointed by the book but decided to not get rid of it so soon because I’m obsessed with the cover lmao.
I’m 333 pages into “The Queen Of The Tearling” And I understand what u mean about kelsea being polarizing. She’s cutthroat, wise beyond her age, she rules with an iron first, but she’s also sensitive and caring. She’s very complex but I love her too and this book! I had some reservations about it in the beginning but I’m glad I kept reading. I think I will marathon the entire series!!!!
Ahhhh so happy! I love any videos by you but my favourites are the ones where you are gushing about things you love! Your passion has got me so excited for reading in 2018 now. And now I don’t know what to read first 🙈
I also did this tag I think a week ago. Wasn't it called the Bookish Academy Awards? I really loved doing it too, and I enjoyed it more because of the categories as well. I've seen many people talking about The Tiger's Daughter. Picking the best plot twist was so difficult for me. I think I've read more books that shocked me with their plot than with their actual characters or ships. I can't wait for your couples video, obviously.
a book that i read on december 31st made it into my top 10 books of the year. so i fully support reading until the end of the year. i don't understand people that post early!
How is it that virtually every single book that you mention is one that I've dying to read but haven't gotten to yet. I just read the first volume of Descender and I'm in love. I can't wait to read the second volume. THUG was on my favorites list for 2017 as well. I also read Elantris last year, and it wasn't my least favorite Sanderson work! So I'm with you on that.
I just have to say, I haven't read one of those books beyond the samples. And yet, I love hearing you talk about them. In fact, I think this is one of my favorite videos of yours (automatic Like). I'm _determined_ to make your awards list next year. I know, I know... you've already said that you don't like thrillers, but I'm determined to be your first. Goals ;^)
Oooooooooooooo Eliza and her Monsters is being delivered to my house today and I'm even more pumped to read it now! :) and I have had Red Rising on my shelf for years now and litetally no idea why I haven't read it yet. I will have to pick it up asap!!
I am you when you talk about Red Rising, God. I remember when I read the first and second books in a marathon (in Spanish) and when I was about to read the third book I discovered it wasn't released yet and I had the most stressful post reading months of my whole life xD My favorite trilogy together with Mistborn trilogy. I really hope they do an adaptation.
My fave female is Shallan Davar from The Stormlighy Archive. (Words of Radiance). Ka-Poel from Powder Mage Trilogy. I also like Sabetha (from Republic of Thieves - love-hate her sfm). Lyra from His Dark Materials (which I finally read, finally). My fave male is also Kvothe (Wise Man’s Fear) and Locke too hahaha. I’d add Patroclus too from Song of Achilles and Kaladin (The Way of Kings). Ugh I just love everyone.
You mentioned you really liked very deep and thoughtful books or books that seemed to be really thought out and that you wanted to get back into science fiction so I have a recommendation you could look into. It's called Partials by Dan Wells, and its a mix of post-apocalypse/science fiction and I feel like the characters are really down to earth and intelligent and mature and you've got morally grey characters and romances and yeah. It's wonderful. I think the book series is only like three books long (Idk it's been a while since I've read them) but I just thought, "Oh she seems like a very thoughtful person who would enjoy this!" So I thought I would mention it.
Oh. I also forgot but another read you really need to look into is Furthermore and Whichwood. The first book is really good, but in my opinion, the second book is just a delightful cup of folktale, Persian-esque myth with incredible imagery that will definitely pull at some of the heartstrings. Like, I wish I could compare it to something but I really don't have enough to compare it to. All I know that it is certainly one of a kind.
I really have to re read Red Rising. I read it in the beginning of 2017, and I guess I've had so much go on since then that I literally forgot everything haha. Also, currently reading The Name of the Wind, and just added The Fifth Season to my TBR 😁
So fun- I loved your awards!! I added Red Rising to my list so thank you for that. I love Patrick Rothfus! I read the name of the wind and the wise mans fear a few years ago. Every sentence is like poetry. Welcome to world of waiting for the third book..... it's no fun! Haha and I'm huge fan of Brandon Sanderson-- I loved Elantris. Have you read any of his other books?? The Reckoners series-- oh so good! I listened to it on audio. It has a great narrator! And the Mistborn series!! 😍 😍
Honestly you make me want to read the windwitch series even though I never read YA books! and if I did this Oathbringer by brandon sanderson will probably be in every single category (oops) bc it's just amazing
Seriously most of my favorites end up on your list. Your my top source for new series cause if you love it I know I will too. I'm all about the Haydes and Persephone romances. Bad ass, smart and strong females. One of my tops for the year is the Bone Season by Samantha Shannon. The series isn't talked about much, but Warden and Paige are just so good!
Laur S wait whuttt it does? I thought her new book was coming out next year is the priory of the Orange tree & that the 4th bone season book will be released after that book. She's still working on the 4th book as i know. Tbh wouldn't mind two releases by her in 2019 or even a book this year.
I wanted to do a re-read of the whole Red Rising trilogy before Iron Gold came out this month, but I can’t, for the reasons you stated. I felt so exhausted after reading each book, but in a good way. I was so anxious and nervous the entire time, and I can’t go through that again right now. 😂 No matter how much I love my precious Howlers.
I know I am late to this party but here I am... Did you continue Temeraire? I read quite a few of them but fell off eventually as I couldn't find the latest book anywhere in the UK. Also I have that same copy of Jules Verne. Gold pages. Haven't even opened it as it is just so delicate looking. Ha. I still love the WW film. But the ending was a little off. New film soon!
Tiger's Daughter was one of my number one favorite books in 2017, and I know that one of my favorites will be in 2018 will be the second book Phoenix Empress.
Temeraire is too precious for this world. I've only read the first book, but I plan to finish the series 😍 I discovered The Lies of Locke Lamora on 2017 and I'm wondering why the hell I didn't read it earlier. Jeeeeean ❤
This is so weird but you remind me so much of like an awesome girl in a movie like Breakfest Club. I mean like I can just see you being that unique chick in a bad ass oldies friends movie.
Best angst... ohhhh... Amelia and LIncoln from the Lincoln Rhyme series by Jeffery Deaver. (It's mystery so probably not your thing, but it happened to be mine). And The Last Magician by Lisa Maxwell. Man did those two have some good angst. I cannot wait to see where they go.
The moment you said that you hadn't read a lot of graphic novels last year I just went "Sam, Sam, PLEASE read The Wicked + The Divine Vol. 4!" in my head.
I do love clorkwork princess but I must agree it does spend a bit too much time wrapping up every single little thing, which was nice to see but at the same time it kinda pulled away from the real climax and made the last few chapters feel dragged, still love the book and series though
Jay G I'm almost done and I'm really loving it. I was worried to jump on the bandwagon because I thought, "there's no way it can be long enough to say everything it needs to". So far, it's proving me wrong.
Hi Sam I hope you go back to your previous setup, the camera seems too far I feel like I’m looking at you through a magnifying glass. And also we get to see your beautiful face (especially your gorgeous eye makeup) more in the previous angle 😊
thanks for the feedback but the setup is almost exactly the same, angle wise, the camera is just different. Plus the lighting is better in this new setup. The old lighting actually washed me out a bit and was more blue toned. My eye makeup actually shows more true to color in this new setup, as I would find things used to look different on camera vs in person, which was frustrating. I can mess around with the angle some though and see if that helps.
Ok got it 😊👍 thought the camera was closer then but perhaps maybe you were just standing closer to the camera in your other videos. Oh and definitely notice the increased clarity and crisper images in your recent videos, your new camera 🎥 is freakin awesome congratulations 🎉 ! Thank you for doing all that you do for all of us subscribers. You are a wonderful person and ❤️❤️❤️ your channel (and eye makeup) 😁😉💕
i could live forever and never understand how people like Kvothe. I HATE him. I don't know how people can like the book when you spend the whole time in that termite's mind
My aesthetic: Sam hitting her nails on a book :)
Someone count how many “Oh man”’s are in this video 😂
don't make a drinking game out of it though
Thoughts on Tomes lol that was my first thought 😃
Ahh I’ve been waiting so long for this. Now I can die in peace
bless you
You're videos are so amazing Sam! You are one of my all time favourite booktubers
girl, your eye makeup is literally G.O.A.L.S ! :)
thank you :))
OMG I feel like Wonder Woman was LIFE-CHANGING for so many people (especially girls!) and THAT PART IN THE WASTELAND. I WAS CRYING IN THE MOVIE THEATRE. And I still haven't read Windwitch because I just KNOW I'm gonna need more Aeduan x Iseult immediately and the third book keeps getting pushed back!
yesss a highlight of 2017 for me was definitely Wonder Woman
Your hair and makeup in this 😍😍😍😍
Great video.. I always love when you mention the Red Rising series as it is my absolute favorite.
I love the way you do your favorites so much better than just listing the books
You're one of the only people I follow on booktube so I love that you love Red Rising and Pierce Brown! He's sooo nice to his fans, he's such a good guy. I just started Iron Gold and I look forward to when you get to it too!

I totally geeked out when you mentioned Charlie Bowater! I’ve been a huge fan of her art for about 4 years and it’s so cool to see more people recognizing her work!
she's getting so much work now its amazing
Oh man, Aeduan and Iseult. Their angst was fantastic in Windwitch. I have to agree though, there were not enough angsty couples this year. I dint have a good shipping year either. And that’s a problem. Hopefully this year will be better.
right?! I'm very disappointed in my shipping year.
No joke, I just started reading Red Rising right before this video. I've never read the synopsis or watched a review. I saw it at my local library and thought "let's give this series a try". Now I am so pumped to read it!
I was going to say that I've been waiting so long for this but you said it for me lmao. Great video! Much love x
lol thank you
I was so ready for this. Kvothe was also my favorite male lead...😭😭if you catch me at a weak moment thinking about him I may cry...
he's sooo good
I love watching these! I think I might try out this format for my reading done this because it seems like so much fun.
Your best books are on tbr list in my journal. I'm right now reading falling kingdoms, six of crows, and star-touched queen. So thank you so much.
Kvothe is my favourite ever 💗💗 He does go through some changes in the second novel, but that didn't make me like him any less!
goooood
10000000% agree. Favorite fictional character ever.
Windwitch! It is love! I can't wait to read Sightwitch, just to get something new in this world 💖
I know!!! Even though Sightwitch is more of a companion, I need more from the world. I miss it.
I have been needing to read The Name of the Wind forever!
I put it off for a long time too
I should reread it.... I forgot everything
Every book that Sam mentions that have angst I put in my TBR. I'm here for it.
Your nails are INSANE! I think i'm in love

We Are Okay is one of my favorite books from last year and of all time, it broke me and ripped my heart out and put it back in damaged and I was thankful for it.
The name of the wind was amazing!! I can’t wait till the author creates more books!
I’m with you on the Enchantment of Ravens cover. I was really disappointed by the book but decided to not get rid of it so soon because I’m obsessed with the cover lmao.
I'm here for all the Witchlands love 💕 Aeduan my precious 💕

ah so glad you're enjoying it!
I really think you'll like The Beast is an Animal! It was one of my favorite books of 2017 and no one talks about it
Just found your channel for the first time, and you better believe I'm about to do some serious binging - great video
ah thank you!
Ahhhh so happy! I love any videos by you but my favourites are the ones where you are gushing about things you love! Your passion has got me so excited for reading in 2018 now. And now I don’t know what to read first 🙈
ah yay!

Speaking of action that doesn't let you breathe: you NEED to read 'Gone' by Michael Grant. Best YA series I've ever read.
Your uploads today are giving me life!!!
yesss

it would make a wonderful adaptation!
Eliza and Her Monsters--I hesitated reading this, but man, it was one of my favorite books of 2017.
You should add tv shows to your book to adaptation category. So many good shows based on books came out this year
true but I still didn't have time to watch any of them besides GoT lol
Thoughts on Tomes I Highly recommend you check out the handmaids tale when you have the chance 😚
My fave female is Shallan Davar from The Stormlighy Archive. (Words of Radiance). Ka-Poel from Powder Mage Trilogy. I also like Sabetha (from Republic of Thieves - love-hate her sfm). I loveee all the bone season books.
Emma L. I know. Book 4 comes out in May and I'm pumped.

Emma L. oh man. Your probably right. I had seen it list for a summer release at one point. Uggg. Oh well. :)
Kelsea 😍 & Kvothe gahh! And add Vin from Mistborn her inner monologue and political/magical development in the series!
I need to get to Red Rising and Truthwitch ASAP!
yes :)
I agree that reading goes up until the end of the year because that last week of the year offers a lot of free time to read.
exactly!
I wanted to do a re-read of the whole Red Rising trilogy before Iron Gold came out this month, but I can’t, for the reasons you stated. I felt so exhausted after reading each book, but in a good way. I was so anxious and nervous the entire time, and I can’t go through that again right now. 😂 No matter how much I love my precious Howlers.
exactly! You can't put yourself through that
I read We Are Okay in one sitting as well. I absolutely loved it. So captivating and moving. Made me want to read more Nina LaCour.
so far I've liked everything by her that I've read
After seeing you talk about all those books, I think you need to read The Cruel Prince by Holly Black asap!
dude I know but now that the hype is out of this world for it it has me nervous that it won't live up
I know I am late to this party but here I am...
Did you continue Temeraire? I read quite a few of them but fell off eventually as I couldn't find the latest book anywhere in the UK.

I cannot wait!
I need to read Eliza and Her Monsters! The Hate U Give is one of my faves too!
Temeraire is too precious for this world. I've only read the first book, but I plan to finish the series 😍
I discovered The Lies of Locke Lamora on 2017 and I'm wondering why the hell I didn't read it earlier. Jeeeeean ❤
my precious children
Julian from Lord of Shadows. So many exceptional books but still, Julian.
This is so weird but you remind me so much of like an awesome girl in a movie like Breakfest Club. I mean like I can just see you being that unique chick in a bad ass oldies friends movie.

oooh good to know
Thankyou I'm looking forward to reading The name of the wind.....
The moment you said that you hadn't read a lot of graphic novels last year I just went "Sam, Sam, PLEASE read The Wicked + The Divine Vol. 4!" in my head.
I KNOWWWW I need to
You should read American Gods I think you would love it. My favorite read of 2017 and I feel like we have similar tastes 😁
I have :) I just read it right around the new year on audio. I have a review coming up for it.
That sass at the beginning of the video, though. On. Point.
I literally just finished down among the sticks and bones today and it kind of broke my heart even though I knew what was going to happen
Not a new release, but my fave fictional man of the year was . . . Matthias from Six of Crows! My grumpy lil' snowman book boyfriend (sorry, Kvothe!)
I can’t wait for the couples video 🎉🎉
sooooon
Thoughts on Tomes take your time!! I know it will be the 💣
I do love clorkwork princess but I must agree it does spend a bit too much time wrapping up every single little thing, which was nice to see but at the same time it kinda pulled away from the real climax and made the last few chapters feel dragged, still love the book and series though
yeah I'm just not a fan when authors do that and wrap everything up in a pretty bow
I still need to read Doorway UGH
Jay G I'm almost done and I'm really loving it. I was worried to jump on the bandwagon because I thought, "there's no way it can be long enough to say everything it needs to". So far, it's proving me wrong.
YES
Yes I love windwitch! Super excited about NoVa this year cause Susan dennard is going to be there.
I KNOW! I'm pumped.
So many great books and so many that I still need to read. 😍
:)))
Loved this video. So many books to add to my tbr.
:)))
Okay, I think I have a new favorite booktuber
ah thank you :)
I never knew that some people dislike Kvothe, I thought everybody loves him.... Just like me XD
yeah there's actually a comment in here calling him a "termite" LOL
Liked 5 seconds into the video because I was waaaaay to excited to see this
yasss thank you
Is it the U.S paperback of the bear and the nightingale? I really want that book with this particular cover!
yep!
We need some fancy awards ceremony music!
lol I didn't even think of that
Girl you love TID because also angst 👌🏼😂
truuuuuue that redeemed the overall meh plot for me
I wish I loved The Fifth Season.
ISEULT AND AEDUAN
Do I need to read Every heart a Doorway first before Down Among the Sticks and Bones? Or would it make a huge difference?
you can read them alone, they hold up without having read the other books in the series
*Adds all books to Goodreads.*
Yay! Finally! ❤️❤️
I waited to spend my christmas barnes ans noble gift card just for this video
omg bless you
I can't wait till you read Fate of the Tearling xDDDDD
neither can I!
How have I never read any of these books?!
perfect time to change that :) new year new you
Can anyone recommend some books to read about antiheroes or villains. I haven't really read any and I don't know where to start.
Tyler L. Nevernight by jay Christoff is a great book about a lady assassin
Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo and The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch are two good starting points
Thanks Do I have to read the Grisha trilogy before reading six of crows.
no, they read perfectly well on their own merit
I love your blouse
thank you!
You are the LAST one to put up this video, Sam lol.
I actually like the way she does it because how can you pick your favorites of 2017 if its... still.. 2017???
did you listen to the intro LOL also not true.. Jen Campbell put hers up today too :)
i could live forever and never understand how people like Kvothe. I HATE him. I don't know how people can like the book when you spend the whole time in that termite's mind
i love my dumb termite
