Glad to be returning to Middle Earth on this channel. The imperial palace is an impressive build, but it lacks the organic landscapes that my hobbit heart yearns for. I'm happy to see how hyped you are for what is to come.
I think the main concern within the community is around the models leaving the range. The uncertainty surrounding that has stopped my local group from buying anything other than the newest releases and even then not much. I know why they won’t but I wish GW would give us more insight into what is leaving the range so that this paralysis and weak reception to the new models would end. Also the confusion about a 3x3 mat in the new box when the smallest game size is 4x4 too! (Fun fact this is the first game box where both armies have been legal in the current version of the game!)
Your right it was the magazine set of Lord of the Rings. And happy to see Lord of the Rings stuff coming again. Love all the content but was starting to miss the Middle Earth stuff. :3
My first DVD copy of the fellowship (after my VHS gave its last breath from being watched every night) had a little coupon for Gandalf and Frodo minis. 20+ years later that obsession never died.
I started with 40k in 1997 and completely ignored the lotr tabletop when it started. I can pinpoint the exact moment I decided to get into mesbg, tho. I watched and rewatched your epic Star Wars Legion narrative battle reports until TH-cam suggested your video painting Theoden. That model, that video made me buy the starter box and sent me down the mesbg rabbit hole 😊
This box will be my very first set into the wargaming world. I was such a fan of Rohan in the films, it truly shaped me in character. I'm so excited to paint, play and join this community!!
Great to have more MESBG!! For a wish list I could probably list too many models but for me I think the big 3 Last Alliance factions need all new troop & hero mount and dismount options along with a big new plastic Sauron! I think like you’ve said the core factions from the films are a no brainer, I’d love new Galadhrim and Uruk-hai warriors with some helms deep walls and updated Haldir Aragon would be something I’d love as well. The game really needs new plastic troops so that we can get more new players in because let’s be fair those sculpts without nostalgia don’t hold up to the new 40K & AOS stuff
Great video as always Lauchie, I’m finally finishing my Helms Deep board that I started a few months ago with all the Rohan coming how could I not, really looking forward to how yours turns out, obviously will be much better than mine 😅 Keep up the amazing work, long live SBG🔥🔥🔥
Middle earth SBG was not only my first wargame but my first mini build. My first painted mini. It has a special place in my heart for getting mmr into this hobby.
Literally just discovered a gold mine in my shed. About 6 Elves of the Last Alliance, a Man of Numenor and 4 Uruk Hai with swords and shields unpainted! Unfortunately the paints from 20 years ago did not survive their time in stasis. Gonna go order some paints and get to work, relive the days of old whilst my wife and kids are out.
I *really* wish I was still near enough to my friend to keep playing, but I've been out in the country for a year now. My stuff has sat on the bookshelf, and the Morannon Orcs and Fellowship I was finally painting have simply remained primed. It's such an incredible game, and I wish I could play it again, but it's so nice to always see you putting out videos on it. I have no interest in the Imperial city board I'm afraid, but I hope it keeps keeping you afloat as this ME stuff starts coming!
I first got into Wargaming in 2008 with Assault on Black Reach, but I remember the first time I entered a Games Workshop was specifically to get a toy Balrog to go with my LOTR action figures. I was hoping it would be a little bit bigger 😅 I'm very excited for whats to come on your channel. Your passion is so infectious!
For me, it was Battle Masters in around 1990 - the third of the GW/Milton Bradley collab games that also included Heroquest and Space Crusade. (I had Heroquest first, but that isn't a wargame. Battle Masters was). Then it was Warhammer Fantasy Battles 4th Edition (and beyond). Then Battles for Middle-Earth magazine.
What’s that? Bad weather ruining your day? Wouldn’t know anything about that! But in all seriousness I can’t wait for the glorious return of zorpazorp to Rohan!
I got into MESBG because of this channel. I just purchased my first minis! Joining the ranks of the Warg Riders! Can't wait to see all the new LOTR content!
I got into wargaming in 2000 with WHFB 6th edition and soon afterward, 40k 3rd edition. But the moment the LotR SGB hit the shelves the following year, I knew I had found my game. It remains my favourite to this day! I have the complete original range of miniatures from The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers, and most of what was released for The Return of the King.
Super hyped for the new Dunland minis, gonna split the new starter with a friend who just got into Rohan. Really looking forward to seeing if we get new huscarls, new warriors, and new cavalry
I subscribed to your channels because of the Imperial Palace, and have always been a Warhammer fan (40K, AoS, and FB), but honestly I love all your content. Your builds are in inspiration and got me into making my own scenery (haven't done much yet, but it took years before I really considered it). As long as you're passionate and driven, producing amazing terrain pieces that I can take inspiration from - or even just having fun - I'm 100% behind it. I'd love to see what you make.
In my case, it was 40k as I went on a holiday trip to england in 1998. Bought my first "Eldar" there. If MESBG would have been born that stage, I would have definetly bought some Mirkwood Elves, Dwarves or Riders of Rohan or ... Thanks for your brillant content :) Greetings to the Tabletop Community in Oz: Especially The dice and deck in Renmark, SA☺
Fall 2010 for me - the Mines of Moria starter set was my intro to tabletop wargaming and it's remained my favorite tabletop wargame ever since. :-) Looking forward to the new box set and all the madness that happens on Zorpazorp!
hi Zorp and LotR family, i got one heck of a helms deep in the making (if i say so myself ha) and i can't wait to show it off on me channel. it's about 3 months or so away from completion. I can't wait to see Zorps build. As for new models, i think we might get a new modular mumakil and i'm totally up for some new uruks :)
Got into wargaming playing warhammer fantasy battle 1st addition, yes iam that old. Lachie you just lit the beacons in epic style. I think plastic hobbits would be a good start.
I hope the new Jackson film reignites the passion for the hobby! We’re long overdue for a Jackson home run. The Amazon show has not been scratching that itch as a replacement for it
If it's actually good. Jackson's past efforts with the Hobbit films, while not exactly his fault, didn't go well. And the new animated film isn't even actually made by Jackson anyway.
Rings of Poop is bad even for a generic fantasy show... trying to tie that steaming pile of turd to what Tolkien created and Jackson showed us is insulting at best.
Given that the new animated project has opted for the "just gonna make stuff up" angle like Amazon's Rings of Power did, I'm less than hopefully that it will anything worthwhile - let alone good
So excited for the Rohan Starter Set!. Can’t wait to follow you building Edoras, Helm’s Deep etc. I’ve already taken the plunge to extend my Rohan village, not quite as exciting as Edoras, but very exciting for me. That was spun simply by getting Rohan houses in the starter set. The wood, the foam the geek gaming has been ordered! New plastic Rohan figures! This is going to cost a lot, but worth it!
I know there's a fair few helm's deep builds out there. But we've been waiting for Zorpazorp's helm's deep for years! I'm hyped Also Rivendell high elves are most needed because they look even worse in their own army. The spearman, cav and beautiful new banner put your main troop to shame.
My first start in the hobby was a box of Warriors of Middle Earth. How I loved those beautiful High Elves, the brave Men of Gondor and those foul Moria Goblins. Painted it so quick that I bought a second box of these minis a couple weeks later. It never stopped since then.
I started wargaming in 2000 where a few school friends played 40k and one of them gave me a few orks. Then I got a squad of space marines for my birthday in 2001 but then the lord of the rings stuff started showing up and i was hooked. I played Lotr till 2006 then didn't do any wargaming till the last 5-6 years when i got back into it.
I am very old, and what got me into wargaming at first was Warhammer 1st edition. But then I left it for quite a few decades, and it was your Lord of the Rings builds that got me back into it.
I can’t wait for a few years of straight Rohan builds. They are my favourite faction from the setting and a helms deep build has always been a goal for me ever since being a young hobbyist.
Really excited to see the Rohan content, it was always my favourite location/aesthetic in the movies (Aside from the Shire of course). Have you considered doing an original narrative campaign to tie in with the War of the Rohirrim launch? Seeing a Rohirrim warband grow from a scrappy band of survivors to hardened veterans over the course of the Dunlending invasion would be really cool. Especially with some perma-death and upgrade mechanics built in.
When first I saw war-gaming miniatures as a kid, back in 2002-3 I wanted to follow my hearts that always calls to the world of Tolkien... but alas I knew no one who played it, and so I bought High elves for warhammer fantasy, because I knew someone who had models too. I was only years later when I actually played a game, but there was far between games, so I really never learned to play warhammer properly. At some point in 2013-15 I bought some Galadhrim warriors and the free peoples of middle earth book as an impulse... and there they remained, just bought, as I still knew no one (I thought). In 2017 I bought some second hand orcs and last alliance troops because I loved to run lord of the rings PnP and themed miniatures seemed nice. But then Fate finally smiled upon me, as I one day randomly brought the subject up with a long time friend, who without me knowing it, had played SBG in the olden days, loved it and missed it. I IMMEDIATELY jumped at the opportunity and asked for a game and he obliged happily. together we rediscovered the rules and began gaming :) it drew in other players and surprisingly (to us as we were out of synch with anything) the game was relaunched in 2018 and so began the new wave, which we were front runners on in our community because of one random conversation ^_^ Oh and I DEFINITELY want new High elves for my favourite Rivendell army :)
My brother and I got in mebsg when it was first released, then moved on to different games. We are planning on getting back in with the new edition, and I am totally stoked that there is more middle earth content coming!
Amazing news to see you coming back to middle earth. I’m super excited to see you construct edoras. Mt Sunday is my favourite location in New Zealand, followed closely now by Deer Park Heights. Amazing to see you back and can’t wait for more reveals
First thing I bought was a spacemarine on bike , then Moria goblins and a tumbled down the LOTRs strategy wargame tree. Building a cardboard fort in middle school many years ago 😊😅
Started Tabletop late 2000 with 40k. In Autumn 2001 a new game store opened in our town where we could paint and play. They had the lotr starter build for test games. We spend a shit ton of afternoons playing games between Warhammer painting sessions. Fond memories. I loved the mesbg game, but was too invested in Warhammer. Finally bought the Rohan Battle force last year after a friend talked me into it. The new minis look great and I am hoping for plastic kings guard models. A bit miffed though, as I do not know if I want more warriors although they look great. Totally unrelated: Where was Gondor when the view count fell? Hope the Rohan Movie and boards bring some new people to your channel
Hey Zorp! How are your girls doing? I have my second daughter due to join us in less than a week. I working on getting her middle name to be Estel! Pray my wife lets that happen. I watch your old MESBG content all the time especially your old Battle Companies Campaign. One of my favorite videos was watching you and your wife play a game together with her controlling Rohan. It was really nice to see the family that supports your work and the things that you love. We love you too buddy! Keep up the hard work and dedication.
Glad to see this video on the channel (and learning you have two other channels!) I am considering buying this new starter set and I haven't bought any Middle-Earth miniatures from GW since the era of the movie releases. (I was already a GW customer long before that, however. Necromunda was my first GW box set.) Hearing that bit about how the Shade miniature was super-OP until recently does give me pause. I have zero interest in tournament-style play with Middle-Earth. Power-gaming can take a hike; this game is all about narrative afaic. That's what drove me away the first time, as the rules gradually got tweaked until gross combos became possible. This game was at its best with the first three box sets, where it was primarily about recreating epic battles from the books and films for the fun of it. I'm irrationally hopeful that *maybe* GW might put the game somewhere closer to that with this release. That may be baseless hope on my part. TBD. The last box set was pretty expensive... I hope this one is more affordable... but that's also probably a naive hope on my part. lol. Fingers crossed.
A few weeks ago after almost 20 years, I stumbled upon a box of my old Middle Earth Warhammer and now I’m suddenly addicted to collecting and painting once again! Couldn’t believe Games Workshop are still using the same moulds for the Last Alliance of elves and Numenoreans after all this time!
I think it was around 1997 when I first got into wargaming with the old Warhammer box set. Leon Leoncoeur and the Knights of Bretonnia. But when Battles Games of Middle Earth was released I was hooked.
I’m massively hyped for the new edition, Rohan & Isengard were my first army back when the two towers starter set dropped. I’m hyped to build a Rohan army from a different era. When it comes to dishing out new plastic kits I would like them to throw a bone to some of the Hobbit armies that were done dirty and never got their plastic core: gundabad orcs, Mirkwood elf warriors & laketown militia & guard.
Started in 2007 with lotr sbg. Was walking down the street when we walked by a hobby shop. Through the window i saw a bunch of painted uruk hai minis and i instantly fell in love
Battle Games in Middle Earth got me into Wargaming! That lead to 20 years of 40K addiction. I still play MESBG regularly, it’s still the best game GW has ever produced!
Officially started in 2009 with Warhammer Fantasy..... what brought that along though was back in the mid/late 90s playing Battle Masters! I always remembered playing it and absolutely loving it but never could remember the name of the game. Which, later (in college) led me on an internet search looking for said name only to stumble on Warhammer. Definitely here now for the Middle Earth love however!!!!
I started playing Warhammer 40k in 1998. I had dabbled in Chainmail minis for D&D before that, but it was late 2nd edition Warhammer that pulled me in. In fact, I have never played a LoTR game, nor do I own a single mini from the range.
Can’t wait for all the Middle Earth content on your channel to come! Started (and stayed) with MESBG since the first Last Alliance pack GW released back in the 2000’s. So thrilled for the new content GW is coming out with!
I'm scared of what they will do to the rules. But if I don't like them I'm happy to stay playing the present rules anyway. If I don't like them I'm done buying more models. I have so many unpainted model that I'm probably never going to finish them all anyway. And if the "War of the Rohirim" is as bad as Rings of Power all hope is lost.
I believe a lot of us have thought about building Helms Deep and would love to build along with you. How about more of a step by step, lets build series? As always love the show
1983 Warhammer & WRG 4Ed. BGME is close to my heart as I am from NZ and moved to UK in 2002 where I worked for GW for 12y through the boom, bust and slow rebuilding... Really looking forward to the new game, I can't remember the last NEW plastic regiment box the game has received. Now to decide Dunlendings or Rohan?
Dude, this is super exciting!! Seeing you building Rohan-themed terrain is going to be awesome, really really keen for this next stage, and linking it in with the new movie will be tight. Also loving the Patreon updates bro!!
I am so pleased to see new LOTR minis and plastic, I hope there are more and can i ask that the sprues allow more flexibility in making up minis, how about more heads, weapon options, and even allowing arm and leg poses so that you can have units of minis that all look different. The new minis will be competing against some excellent proxy 3d prints and plastic minis that with a little kitbashing can look much better than many of the current sculpts. Victrix Vikings are a good example of proxies for Dunland warriors and they are about 50% of GW prices
Love the passion! Totally agree about refreshing the range, mad that the goblins I'm painting up in my mid 30s are the exact same sculpts I was painting in my tweens!
Battle Games magazines, got the Goblin #1 version and a membership when I was a kid (8 years or something) and been a fan ever since. I really hope we'll see some Rings of Power miniatures and battle scenario's as well.
I think one of the big things that would help is moving most of the Hobbit foregeworld kits to normal plastic. I mean forgeworld is being pushed out and those kits are long overdue in plastic. If gw started selling those kits as plastic in either a new box set or something it would really sell well. Personally I would love an iron hills army but its so ridiculously expensive.
I'm so glad you can focus on middle earth for a bit as that's my favourite world too, but to be honest, I'd watch anything you put out. Keep the faith Lachie! You're one of the best TH-camrs around.
Ah thanks Stevo, you always leave such lovely comments mate. I think you're going to looooove the next big scenery video, you should see the deeping wall! It's MASSIVE hahaha
My introduction to GW and their games was in 2004. I saw the mines of moria set on a shelf in my local toy store. My dad bought it for me. Later the same year i discovered a dedicated hobby store with tons of similar but different model boxes and employees that actually seemed to know what they were selling me. One day at the end of 2004 i was in that store looking around in awe (like i always did when i went there), when one employee apearently saw me inspecting a Tau XV-8 Crisis suit box. He came and talked to me (and my dad). He asked if i liked the Tau. Not knowing what he was talking about, he begun to explain 40k to my dad and me. Apearently a new version of the game just came out. Since both my dad and i where very into scifi, the rest is now history. Yes i still play Tau. But without lord of the rings, non of that would have ever happend. (... I just realized it's been 20 years 🥲)
My first Middle Earth Wargames were played back in the 1970's using the Miniature Figurines "Mythical Earth Range" where our club used to put close on 1000 figure on the table every weekend ,so MESBG was a no brainer for me
Hit the nail on the head. Walking in a GW store as a teen and seeing the epic units front he screen I had to have them. Wish I still had my Gondor and moria gobs. Now as an adult with more expendable income....the drums of war beat louder!
I started modeling and painting just two years ago (no time or people to play with in my area, sadly), and have put off any mesbg stuff out of not knowing where the range was going and the rumors you mentioned in the video. the new edition announcement got me to finally pull the trigger. hopefully i can keep myself from buying too many more before the new box lands.
I'm in the north island of middle earth at the moment Lochy. Although I don't game, I started my LotR miniature collection with the 1989 Fellowship of the Ring set by Citatel Games and then collected the full magazine set after the Peter Jackson's movie rendition of JRR Tolkien's books. Refer to Modelling Origins video on my channel for reference. So yeah, I can safely say I've been there since the beginning. Looking forward to the new gaming board builds. Happy Modelling Mon
I was probably 8 when I played my first game of 40k 3rd edition with my Dad. LOTR was really when I started to get into the hobby myself, and then even further with Warhammer Fantasy
I would literally buy every single new drop if they would give us updated sculpts of the original plastic minis. I’ve been collecting and playing since just before the two towers models started coming out and this is by far my favorite hobby. I’m super excited to see what GW brings us in the coming year(s).
Was just working up at Mesopotamia across the river from Edoras/Mount Sunday. Can confirm is one of the windiest places in the world. 3/5 days it was blowing a gale .
One of the other things holding BFME back is the LACK of models for basic units. Models have just disappeared. The Rohan Huntsman, the Dol Amroth Pikemen, etc.
I cannot stress enough how damn excited I am for all of us. New LOTR movies. New Zorpazorp Middle Earth megabuilds. NEW PLASTIC ROHAN!!!!!

Lol Rivendell Elves of course Lachie! Also, how about Dol Amroth with helms that make sense? 🤣
I was lucky enough to be an extra on Fellowship I was in the NZ Army at the time 😂
Games Workshop is doing what they did to Warhammer Fantasy Battles to LOTR’s I can see that as clear as day they concentrate on the cash cow 40k ❤ 🔥
I am so unbelievably excited for this new edition and new builds coming out of Zorpazorp HQ!
YES MY MANNNNNNN we going to have some banger games on them!!!!!
watch 11 seconds and liked, because of this "MESBG is the best game GW has or will ever make". Best intro ever.

Hahaha thank you Simon I completely agree, it has been too long since I've used some bloody FLOCK!

since a lot of WHF is taken from LoTR, And D&D.

I'm hyped
Also Rivendell high elves are most needed because they look even worse in their own army. The spearman, cav and beautiful new banner put your main troop to shame.
Right? I think the worst thing is how the gear these models have dont make sense. Sword men have no shields but spearmean have haha
Got my start because of the old Sisters of battle, Imperial Guard and Space Marine art first army was Ultramarines with a space wolf rune priest
You should see Helms Deep now muahahahahaha!
2008 with Isengard! The White Wizard has never truly left my mind as I move to other games as well
Really excited to see the Rohan content, it was always my favourite location/aesthetic in the movies (Aside from the Shire of course).
Yuup, same here. Started wargaming with MESBG when my high school friends got me into it, and we moved to Warhammer shortly after.
I IMMEDIATELY jumped at the opportunity and asked for a game and he obliged happily. together we rediscovered the rules and began gaming :)
it drew in other players and surprisingly (to us as we were out of synch with anything) the game was relaunched in 2018 and so began the new wave, which we were front runners on in our community because of one random conversation ^_^
Oh and I DEFINITELY want new High elves for my favourite Rivendell army :)
Of course mesbg was my first tabeltopwar game with the two towers release
Great video! Your excitement is infectious! I am looking forward to your next video.
Mines of Moria was the first box I bought from an op shop for $6
Congratulations buddy. Sounds super exciting! Hopefully see you up in Wellington again soon ⚔️🌋🏔️
Great news for us and hopefully for the channel.
Thank you so much mate, really appreciate the super and I COMPLETLEY AGREEEEEE ah the hype is real!
YESSSSSS! Middle earth calls for aid, and Zorpazorp will answer! So excited for more!
So hyped for MESBG content on Zorpazorp!
Helms Deep and Minas Tirith external sets were constructed at Dry Creek Quarry in the Hutt valley, in Wellington. I used to drive by them every day.
I would love to get a plastic Gandalf on his cart. Something about that fireworks cart just brings a smile to my face.
Helm’s Deep! About bloody time mate! (In an Aussie accent)
hahahahahahahaa yes indeed WELL overdue!!!
Love this kind of video!!! Would love to see more talky vids. All the more so it’s cheaper and quicker for you to make!!
Yeah this one was a nice change compared to my usual production time haha. Thanks mate!
Rivendell was my first army. New plastic models and interesting poses would make it my favorite army again
I started table top gaming in 1988 with Rogue Trader and Star Warriors and haven't looked back since! Great video, thank you!
Oh verrrrry nice mate, the proper early days! Thank you for watching mate, thrilled you enjoyed it :)
So happy to hear Jay is doing well, he was a Paladin in my DnD Campaign. many years ago.
Rings of power was so bad can't expect that it will boost sales I would even say it reduced sales.
Sadly it's not looking good for that anime - gurl bossing with a character that appears in one sentence, and reducing Helm to an afterthought... WHY?!
These plans for the future sound awesome! Looking forward to all the new content! Hopefully we will see updated Riders of Rohan soon
I'm happy to hear more about the upcoming middle earth content! The patreon updates were a nice teaser
Dude, this is super exciting!! Seeing you building Rohan-themed terrain is going to be awesome, really really keen for this next stage, and linking it in with the new movie will be tight. Also loving the Patreon updates bro!!
How have I never seen your channel before? This is amazing stuff! Thank you for sharing your passion for LOTR wargaming!
Welcome mate!! Glad you're enjoying it :)
So excited. I had to watch your Rohan houses videos again to start my new project!
Nice thumbnail, helped me click lol
Love your videos ❤
Always happy to see LotR videos on the horizon. Perhaps if you carried a Rohan flag up Mt. Sunday, the weather will bow down to your equine might.
Glad youre back to the mesbg content! Will keep my eyes peeled for sure ❤
My first game was back in 2002, when I bought the Two Towers boxed set. Oh, what a journey it's been.
Happy Modelling
Mon
I was probably 8 when I played my first game of 40k 3rd edition with my Dad. LOTR was really when I started to get into the hobby myself, and then even further with Warhammer Fantasy
I would literally buy every single new drop if they would give us updated sculpts of the original plastic minis. I’ve been collecting and playing since just before the two towers models started coming out and this is by far my favorite hobby. I’m super excited to see what GW brings us in the coming year(s).
Sorry to hear the views have taken a drop. Love your content and I'm sure it will come back!
I'm super excited to see you get back to middle earth. I want to build boards with you. Shame that there isn't many people that play in my area.
