    I once applied for an architectural job
    My renders got praised a lot and so as concepts and analyses
    And they finished with
    “You’ll work on hand models”
    I had literally once photo of a hand model through 50 pages of my portfolio

    • @ShowItBetter
      @ShowItBetter  ปีที่แล้ว +12

      haha yeah, clearly it's not a general rule and depends in each case, but maybe letting your employer know your forte can be a good thing beforehand. But hey, the good thing is that now you can have more photos of hand models in your portfolio haha

      @@ShowItBetter yeah but i really hated hand modeling
      And i was torn if i should really show my skill even with 1 photo
      That’s why i completely stopped displaying plans. It’s the only thing i hate more that hand modeling 🫠

    Great video. I have been following a lot of Portfolio videos lately since im applying for a different job now and have some experience in Architecture finaly xD Last job interview they told me that they are a bit confused where to put me in because I had good renderings, good modells, I coordinate BIM projects, I do the construction details, the design etc. Love working in architecture even though the pay is a bit meager compared to any other engineering branch xD

    Do you guys think it's good to add a extra section of personal small projects at the end of the portfolio? I'm interested in studying Sacred Geometry for example and I do many sketches and models experimenting with it, do you think I should add a page or two of that?

    what are your thoughts on adding extra curricular activities page as a part of architectural portfolio .. for example page dedicated to one of your hobbies which might show a direct relation your thought process of architecture or a page dedicated to a design internship which wasn’t necessarily architectural

    Great video, thx for the content. If i may add one thing: no studios really care about fancy overworked portfolios, they only interested in the images, never read any text, and spend max 30seconds on a portfolio... Focus more on design and visual skills and quality cuz most pf-s lack these, no special graphic and issue designing needed.

    • @ShowItBetter
      @ShowItBetter  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      thanks for your input! I agree, they do spend max 30 secs per portfolio, that is why it has to be simple and clear to understand and at the same time, stand out from the rest. I guess some graphic mistakes like misalignment, bad fonts, or bad color choice is noticeable when you do them rather than when you don't.

    Hey! Thank you so much for an amazing video! Regarding page sizes, my current ones are A3 landscape in a book format - but I saw another video saying landscape pages are not preferred because the reader has to scan a wider width. What are your thoughts on this?

    • @ShowItBetter
      @ShowItBetter  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think from what we’ve seen recently, a format the covers the entire real estate of a typical screen is best. Sometimes really wide formats leave a lot of space uncovered

    • @ShowItBetter
      @ShowItBetter  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Thanks for commenting Lila! In this specific scenario we praised sketching because it's something that in some occasions we don't see often, and it stands out much more. Nonetheless, the real suggestion is to portray what you excel at. Some are really good at making axonometrics, or construction details, or renders, etc. Try to emphasize your forte, because that is what is going to differentiate you from the rest

    for someone who has been working 5-6 years, how many projects to you think that you should show in the portfolio? and how many pages?

    • @ShowItBetter
      @ShowItBetter  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We have found that it is better to have fewer projects (around 4-5) and no more than 4 spreads for each (max). The magic is in placing the best of the best, and only the essential drawings.

    • @ShowItBetter
      @ShowItBetter  ปีที่แล้ว

      The size doesn’t really matter, it is more the orientation. You might want to have it in a vertical orientation! Also you might want to decide on a size that occupies a lot of your screen

    I forever appreciate your content and it has helped me alot on my architectural journey. but with the new software i'm little behind with my old I3 laptop. I would really appreciate if possible you can donate one of your old ones to be up to date. am from South Africa.

      @ShowItBetter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for your kind words and I'm glad to hear that my content has been helpful to you on your architectural journey! I completely understand how important it is to have up-to-date technology when working with new software, but unfortunately, I don't have any laptops to donate at the moment.
      But don't worry, there are plenty of affordable laptops out there that should work well with the latest software, and I'm confident you'll be able to find one that suits your needs. And who knows, maybe one day I'll be able to help you out with a new laptop or other useful resources to support your growth in the field.
      In the meantime, keep up the hard work and don't let any setbacks hold you back. You've got this!
