- Space Jam was one of my favorite kids movies so I thought it would be fun to see the main differences with the new HBO Max version starring Lebron James vs the old Michael Jordan version.

I know I'm going to sound like a "boomer" but I prefer the original. I really liked how Michael Jorden was playing along with all the other loony tune characters and how it was only in the Cartoon World and not in the Human World.
Right! Michael’s acting was on point, but I don’t blame LeBron’s acting since he’s not professional actor; he did good too! This is why I still love the first one more
Here is the issue for me. They expect Lebron have to a character growt. He didn't need any character development. He's not a trained actor so it felt forced.
With Jordan they took him as he was and let him be himself which made it feel like i was watching Jordan without a camera infront of his face.
They are used to cameras but not used to acting, if Lebron just could be himself from the start it would have been alot better i think.
And let's not forget the CGI in the end. I felt like i was watching the mommy with The Rock.
I didn't like the squel really at all, but I gotta admit when they were jumping from Warner Bros I.P. to I.P., I really enjoyed that. lol

@@ZzzJoey4 But he didnt save them, it was his sons glitch that saved them. All Lebron did was torment them with his fundamental nonsense, it was after he let go and allowed them to be themselves on court that they started making shots. It was the Tunes that saved Lebron not the other way around.
Whereas MJ he was making shots left and right while most of the Tunes were unmotivated till halftime where they drank MJs supposed "SECRET STUFF" to motivate them and make them stronger

actually nothing in A NEW LEGECY was distracting ... the audience was full to capacity, just like any other arena or stadium that shows up to WATCH a game ....
if you bothered to grasp the concept of the movie, you would've figured out WHY so much ground was covered ... duh!!!

You can paint the same drawing but if not done right at certain angles, perspective and colour it feels distracting. The human eye is sensitive to all these elements. When I watched it, my eyes were forced to look about the area rather than focus on the person in front of him. Nothing was suttle about this movie. It was big and loud, it made it's point. But due to it being big andloud it felt like a cluster of all the cool stuff packed into one. It never gave me a moment to appreciate each visual performance. And you are wrong. Not even fights from WWE feels this cluster when it's packed. There is the reason why the light is always at the center of the ring and the audience is the BACKGROUND. It felt like the audience wasn't the background it apart of the foreground

When it comes to movies, it's sound and visual. The other senses don't actually place much of a role in it. Your brain just tries to fill in what is happening or should be happening with the other senses.
The point I am making is, your brain may been comfortable with it. But as the average person my brain wasn't comfortable with what was happening. Since I am the average person, a lot of people just like me are going to forget about this movie very quickly. You see not all of us are big brain like you. 80% of us are just average people that work on the same function. That's how I know this movie is going to fail.. Because I am just like everyone else ...We are going to say the movie sucks only difference is I can actually tell you why it sucks due to my art background.

I dont think this new space jam was as bad people as say but I agree it was nowhere near as good as the original.
Also, Don Cheadle deserves credit for his acting in that role
It was ok to me but it was long as heck for a kids movie and I caught myself being bored at times. If I was a kid I might have felt different.

I like the first Space Jam more. To me it had better charm. The constant use of King James in the second felt egotistical and didn't need to be used as much.

The OG Space jam is the best. Sadly I saw the new space jam today with my son and it was disappointing....I find it hilarious how my son didn't pay any attention to the movie at all but enjoyed the original Space jam movie with Michael Jordan.

Also, I prefer the original, since the pace of the story was more balanced. New Legacy felt soulless and forced to push the story along.

My biggest gripe on New Legacy was precisely that there was too much going on during the game. The crowd was distracting, too much laser lights and video game animation took away from the story. Lebron was alright, Cheadle was his usual phenomenal self, but it seemed WB was trying to dazzle us with graphics. I wanted to see more actual acting from Dame, Klay, AD and the other players. The original is still better.

Biggest differences:
1) The other NBA players actually got to act and play up the comedy of losing their bball powers
2) Soundtrack of the original had bangers
3) The Looney Tune characters seemed more themselves in the original
4) Original movie only needed 80ish minutes to tell the story
5) MJ was a global icon when it came out
Do kids these days even know who the Looney Tunes are!? It seems like they would be glossed over with all the other cartoons that are out there. What worked with the original was 80's/90's kids actually grew up watching the original Looney Tunes. Lebron should have went with a different set of characters to play basketball with that kids from the 00's/10's would actually enjoy. Imagine him balling with characters from Sponge Bob, Adventure Time, or The Fairly Odd Parents (I had to google what was popular back then).
Actually, the looney world was considered 'abandoned' in the movie, it's a like a rescue of the characters for the new generation.
Also, Warner couldn't use sponge bob and fairly oddparents because that's not their property, I'm not entirely sure about adventure time
You should see the Nickelodeon parody of the trailer, but the person above me is right since space jam is for looney toons that is down by Warner Bros than Nickelodeon or CN. It wouldn't make since.

Space jam 1 had actual comedy in it that is still funny to this day. The Psycologist chair scenes, the Charles Barkley scene where he gets blocked by a girl. Those are hilarious if you're a basketball fan regardless of nostalgia. Those are just two examples, theres so much more comic parts imo. Look at how many funny roles the original has compared to the new one. The new only has Fluffy and thats it i think.
Though i haven't seen New Legacy i've heard so much "calm down guys its a kids movie" so it must have some flaws.

The graphics used for the original were good at it's time, but it's unfair to compare a movie based off quality from different eras.

Nostalgia is clouding people New Legacy was the better movie. It was a better story and didn't just through you into LOOK at MJ! it had character development with characters other than Lebron ,it was funnier it didn't depend on just the Toons to make jokes, and while both MJ and Bron acting wasn't academy award winning by any means the acting in New Legacy was better.

I agree, I grew up in the 90s with the original and couldn’t even remember the plot fully, had to rewatch. I liked them both and son actually liked New Legacy better but said Space Jam was funnier. I agree with him
The original Space Jam was by no means a masterpiece, but it was at least watchable. There was a certain novelty to the film. Certain moments in the film like the opening flashback scene set to the tune of 'I Believe I Can Fly' still resonates with adults & kids alike to this day.
It was a straight forward, fun film. It didn't try to take itself too serious with character themes. LeBron's character had an arc, but it was so badly acted it would've been better if he just went with a more flat character arc.

I prefer the OG space jam to new legacy. New legacy,awful soundtrack, I laughed at how bad some of the scenes were and I was done with the movie torwards the end. 96 movie was meant for all ages this new movie was meant to give more publicity to lebron, something that Jordan didn’t need because 96 movie it made sense to have Jordan be a part of such project specially because the idea of having cartoon characters being in movies alongside real life people (ex: who framed roger rabbit)
