I upgraded from A6000 to A6100 by selling A6000 on eBay. I was surprised they hadn't depreciated much since I bought it so lost a few £££. But ended up finding a used A6100 with a 30mm lens for a good price and ended up selling the lens so the upgrade didn't cost that much in the end. Admittedly the A6100 is a few years older now so there's more used ones on the market than when you was asking 3 years ago.
it's nice (and very convenient) to have pleasing colours straight out of camera, but surely if you shoot RAW, you can apply whatever "colour science" you want in post? I'm a Lightroom user (and sometimes Darktable), but I've tried the free "Capture One Express for Sony", since it does a very good job of processing Sony ARWs, fixing the greenish cast you see on skin in Sony files in some situations. I was so impressed, I did consider purchasing Capture One Pro, but I still find it a bit too expensive. For me, there's no one brand that gets it right all the time. I personally like Pentax colours, although, while they are generally pleasing to my eye, just as Canon colours are, they are not necessarily the most neutral or accurate. People rave about Fujifilm skin tones, but I don't find Fuji's colours in the least bit accurate overall (which is probably why there's another version of Capture One specifically for Fujifilm ;). It's all a matter of taste, though. Some shine in certain circumstances, and not in others. All are very fixable if you know what to do with the RAW files.

For a good budget all around camera. would you recommend the m50 or the 6100? 6100 is for 600 dollars on amazon right now, a lot cheaper than 6400. So 6100 seemed like a decent buy but I can also get an m50 around the same price. It’s so tough to decide.
I’ve watched you two for years, but I see a video like this and some parts I find a little disingenuous. No one in the market for this camera is buying the 16-55 f2.8 to go with it. I was so happy that you were showing the 16-50, and then made a great recommendation for some inexpensive primes. Then straight after there’s a load of samples for a lens which is vastly more expensive than the A6100.
Power zoom lenses that have to power extend every time you turn it on sucks, wasting valuable seconds to get the shot. Nikon's Z 16-50 and Canon's EF-M 15-45 did it right. To extend the lens for use you just need to twist the zoom ring manually and if you want you can leave it extended.
@@ej_tech Sony has the older 18-55 OSS, which is optically fine, if you want a standard zoom, or the newer 18-135 OSS if you want excellent image quality.
The A6000 can be bought secondhand for very cheap and combined with a nice sigma prime lens, it is a very hard to beat beginners camera. Heck, I have used it for weddings. The A6100 is a good upgrade but they really need to discontinue the old A6000 if they want to lower the price. If Sony targets beginners photographers then they should lower the price around 600 EUR/USD
Can't you just set the maximum iso really high? It's a simple enough solution as it will give you the higher shutter speeds and it would have been at that ISO anyways.
Why do I have a tiny red dot in the center of my videos I shoot? It's like a sniper red dot. I can't see it if I shoot outside, but it's very obvious when shooting inside. I feel like it has something to do with the autofocus laser or something.
Hey, I’m getting the A6000 with two kit lenses for 570$ or i could get the A6100 with just the 16-50 lens for 700$. My budget is 700$. Is sacrificing the 55-210 lens worth the upgrade from A6000 to A6100? i’m not gonna take videos. the only thing stopping me is the difference in focus points. Does that REALLY make a difference?
So it is RIP A6000? Glad I´ve picked up the A6300 with 2 lenses for 930€ in August this year. I bet the A6100 AF isn´t good at tracking flying aircraft. My A6300 AF-C sucks at this task.
This isn't a great fix though unless you know you'll be on one side of exposure. For example, if pet runs into a super sunny window, you might end up overexposing because you've hit the hard limit of ISO. Sure, you can just change the shutter speed, but while you're tracking a pet or a kid or something it's much nicer to have a minimum shutter speed.
I am a beginner in photography and I am looking for a mirrorless camera solely for photography. Can you tell me which camera, Sony ZV E10/Sony A6100 or Canon M50 Mark ii, is better for photography including low light performance? Which camera produces a sharper image? what's your take on the same? Please note that I am not concerned about videography that much. 1080p is more than enough for me.
everyone has a a6000, I sold mine to get a Canon SL2 (200D) a year or so ago, it has a mic jack and flip out screen, which the a6k lacks you has to use the MIS whatever thing... But I admit the a6k does have some great AF and frame rates. Where the a6k really shines, is those events that have "No Professional Equipment Allowed" the a6k on a wrist strap and the 16-50 looks like a point and shoot, put one of the bigger zoom in a pocket and there you go. I still borrow it from my friend once in awhile, he "borrows" my 7Dmkii and sometimes "forgets" to bring it back. I think anyone doing video is going to look at the a6400, then the a6500-a6600. I know a couple of pro shooters using the a6400 and they love it for video. I like the a6xxx series a lot, main reason I went the SL2 is it uses my Canon lenses and it the flip out screen and mic jack which the a6k lacked.
I recently made a video of the whole long "Cosi fan tutte" Mozart's opera with A6100 and Tamron 28-75mm. 3 hours without overheating directly on the power source. Full HD 15mbs because of the large files. It workes beautifully. Tracking is powerful and colors are prettier than on A7III. Only thing I am missing is stabilisation and it's clearly noticable with lens without it. Even with good tripod with fluid head, you can see microvibration when you zoom in and out. I hope Sony E PZ 18 - 105 mm F4 G OSS will help. And yeah... A6100 works GREAT with Sigma MC11 adapter and Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L. Eye AF works much better than on A7III (in my case anyway).☝🏼
Hey I am getting my first Real Camera for Xmas. And I torn between A6400 and X-T3. Some factors leading me to the A6400 over the X-T3 are: Price Sigma Lens Choices Lack of Recording Limits Screen Articulates Front Facing It’s class leading AF / Tracking Both Cameras don’t have IBIS so that’s irrelevant. The X-T3 has headphone jack. It’s video specs surpass the Sony. And viewing sample images it’s color is also more pleasing. But in my head I am thinking $400 more for headphone Jack nah! Video specs is really a great factor in their favor. And too me color I can adjust in post. Plus BIG Question with the money saved from the body. I can get a sweet Sigma Art Lens. What’s your thoughts? And what’s your thoughts on Sigma quality lenses over the Fujifilm X mounts? These factors are leaning me toward Sony.
Bro, I need your help. My daughter is a senior in HS -- so you know her special, graduation year is kinda tainted because of COVID; however, to help "cheer" her up, I'm looking for a recommendation on the best mirrorless or DSLR camera for an amateur/enthusiast that will eventually grow into either a passion hobby or career. I would like to get a complete kit -- boxed and ready to go. The reason I like mirrorless is the compactness and weight; however, I'm all for providing the best quality, ease of use, robustness... my budget is $1000. Can you provide your top 2-3 recommends and I can look at those individually. Much appreciated -- I really liked this video and is the first time I checked out your channel.
The review is full of personal preferences and the information (April 2021) is not any longer accurate. If the user is doing the same photography as you, then your advises might be fine; however how high is the probability for that? I am using a Canon G7x mk II (Not the same camera category however functions can be handled direct from the touch screen) and my experience is that this is not making the handling less complex nor any quicker. The number of settings are many on both cameras and if you know, what you are doing the difference in handling is not significant. Objectively. I can imagine if the camera is only used occasionally, then the handling is equally unfamiliar on both systems and add to that that the user might not know what the different function are used for. In the setting auto the handling system doesn't matter. If you just want a point and shoot camera you might be better of with a smart phone. The review is touching most relevant points however the presentation speed and the heavy use of personal preferences makes the result superficial.
Full plastic, no weather sealing. Just like the A6000. Move to the A6300, A6500, or A6600 if you need metal and weather sealing, or the A6400, which has a metal front and mount, plastic rear, and weather sealing.
I think you people focused a bit too much on menu options that would be easily fixed, once. The quality of the images was much more important to me. Continuous unlimited video shooting, much more important.
the better IQ is only noticeable in really bad ligthing conditions or in case of really bad settings. otherwise any recent camera offers equivalent image quality. That being said, the main differences are the lenses, the overall usability (grip, battery life, ui, controls,...) and the fun you'll get when picking up the camera. For those reasons, i do not consider any of the Sony cameras at the moment. Fuji being a clause competitor (Canon being my first choice), but horrible handling/ergonomic and battery life is a no go for me.
The better IQ is always present. No more green shadows, 1-2 extra stops of DR at low ISO,. and you can go 1-2 stops higher in ISO before noise becomes intrusive.
Nice Video, great that you always cover photo and video evenly. Wish panasonic would improve their autofocus up to that level, I them for everything but that.
It has exactly the upgrades from the a6000 that I need and none of the ones I don't. I will use it primarily for video and for me, it will be perfect as soon as I find the money. 🙂
Massive improvement. It gains much of what made the A6300 a killer upgrade over the A6000, plus some A6400 bits. It has the best AF in its category and a few categories higher (even better than the A6300's). Only losing out to other Sonys.
On "high-end Camera" like the Nikon D5600 the Auto ISO is able to set minimum Shutter speed. Face detection and tracking through the optical Viewfinder is although possible.
Unfortunately, the D5600 doesn't have AF fine tune, so everything goes out the window if focus isn't accurate. One of the big issues with low end DSLRs.
6100 and 6400 are same generation, so same JPEG colors. If you have the extra money, get the 6400. Its a much nicer camera. If you dont, the 6100 is still nice. Maybe upgrade the lens 1-2 years down the road.
I just viewed "Is the a6000 still good for 2020?". It had a lot of positive comments. I won't be surprised if those with poverty issues will have a long wait for price drops and owning a camera. It's the fault of measurebators who are brand marketers in disguise generating troll comments.
@@alanwf8698 true, and a couple of primes too. I think Sony keep throwing this 16-55mm f2.8 G at them, because it's popped up in a couple of their other A6100 and A6600 reviews over the past couple of months. Of course, they could instead choose to pair this camera with the kind of lens a buyer might be more likely to choose as an upgrade that won't break the bank, like the 18-135mm F3.5-5.6, or the 18-105 F4 G.

SONY please price it correctly in India!!! This is the true successor to the Legendary Panasonic Lumix G85!!! M50 is not comparable to the A6100 in video at all. 6k down sampled 4k with sweet phase detection AF blows away the M50 n also 1080p120 with AF omg!!. G85 has IBIS but at this point inferior stills capability and low light video(still far better than m50).
In my country, the new 6100 with kit lens cost the same with A6400 with a kit lens (in some shops). Seriously, if this is the "entry level A6000 series it should be priced lower.
18-105/4 OSS and 18-135 OSS are excellent. The older 18-55 OSS is good, too. And APS-C E-mount has a constantly growing list of excellent lenses, including Sigma's 1.4 trio. Viltrox will also be launching a 1.4 trio with some different focal lengths, priced at only $250 per lens!
It DOES have a touchscreen. They were complaining that it wasn't usable in the menus. Which makes sense, since the LCD is quite small, as are the boxes for each menu item.
Thanks for the review Chris and Jordan. Even more interesting are the comments posted by one Christian Fiore. He is either a Sony employee or paid by Sony to promote them on social media. I think this because: 1/ He has posted many more comments than anyone else about this video. 2/ Every comment he has posted either - (a) Talks up the camera or Sony in general. (b) Talks down the weaknesses of the camera or Sony in general. (c) When other posters have commented on the merits of non Sony cameras has criticised every one of them.
@@ej_tech Sony has the older 18-55 OSS, which is optically fine, if you want a standard zoom, or the newer 18-135 OSS if you want excellent image quality.
hi , did you shoot this using the 6100 ?
How long is the battery life. If i go live how long does it lasts before the battery runs out.
Any record limit in 4k?
how come a6500 is older than a6400, and
and are a6100 is same level as a6400 ?
You can get one of these with the kit lens for $500-$600.
They are still awesome
Silent shooting! Already better then a6000! Still gonna get the a6400 though
Keep the kit lens in the 35-65 FF equivalent, and F5.6/F8 and it's not too bad.
I feel like it has something to do with the autofocus laser or something.
bit late but that sounds like a hot pixel. there should be a pixel remap function to get rid of it
I have a6300. Should I go for 6100 or 6600?
I want moreeeeeee review moreeeee *breathes heavily* love y’all! Learn so much from you guys ❤️❤️ love from Vancity
The color grade on this video was awesome!
Hey,
I’m getting the A6000 with two kit lenses for 570$ or i could get the A6100 with just the 16-50 lens for 700$.
My budget is 700$. Is sacrificing the 55-210 lens worth the upgrade from A6000 to A6100?
i’m not gonna take videos. the only thing stopping me is the difference in focus points. Does that REALLY make a difference?
Used A6100 or used a6300? To photography, I will not make videos too often. Used A6300 is quite clearly cheaper...
So it is RIP A6000? Glad I´ve picked up the A6300 with 2 lenses for 930€ in August this year. I bet the A6100 AF isn´t good at tracking flying aircraft. My A6300 AF-C sucks at this task.
cant set a mninimum shutter speed? just set it to shutter priority and keep your auto iso.
@@rocco4696 won't cuz the iso can go as low as 100 and aperture as high as f22.
You'd be hard pressed to overexposed a shot at 1/250 f22 iso100
@@cbflazaro Fair enough.
@@rocco4696 Thank goodness Chris mentions setting your camera to Shutter Priority and Manual immediately after.
What did you get?
everyone has a a6000, I sold mine to get a Canon SL2 (200D) a year or so ago, it has a mic jack and flip out screen, which the a6k lacks you has to use the MIS whatever thing...
I like the a6xxx series a lot, main reason I went the SL2 is it uses my Canon lenses and it the flip out screen and mic jack which the a6k lacked.
sony a6100 or fuji xa7??
Some factors leading me to the A6400 over the X-T3 are:
Price
Sigma Lens Choices
Lack of Recording Limits
Screen Articulates Front Facing
It’s class leading AF / Tracking
Both Cameras don’t have IBIS so that’s irrelevant.
I'm exchanging my Canon M50 for this camera. Both the image and video quality is higher on this than M50 imo
Are you happy with your decision now?
@@amolchoughule8358 No, they decided to go with Fuji.
what about the video specs for this camera from Jordan. I hope you do a separate one for that guys!
Same high quality 4K24/30 and 1080p24/30/60/120 as every A6xxx since the A6300, but no Log or HLG.
The review is touching most relevant points however the presentation speed and the heavy use of personal preferences makes the result superficial.
please make unsung cameras of yesteryear like some film photography stuff
Is the body plastic like the a6000 or magnesium like the a6300?
Full plastic, no weather sealing. Just like the A6000. Move to the A6300, A6500, or A6600 if you need metal and weather sealing, or the A6400, which has a metal front and mount, plastic rear, and weather sealing.
Christian Fiore Thank you!
I love the camera but hate the kit lens. For the price point, this camera should have come with the fixed 55 mm 1.8
Please do fuji xf 16-80 f4 reveiw
its a good camera but its not cheap enough, considering the very minor improvement.
@@BlueBomberTurbo I dont know...you can get an M6 Mk2 for this kind of money, the piss poor EVF wont be missed lol.
That auto-ISO is a bummer. Sony has learned to use the "cripple hammer"
No touch screen for menus? Brilliant!! Sony doesn't normally care about making things easy to use, so that's wonderful to see.
I can't believe Jordan didn't mention the mic jack.
The the screen dim during 4K recording?
On "high-end Camera" like the Nikon D5600 the Auto ISO is able to set minimum Shutter speed. Face detection and tracking through the optical Viewfinder is although possible.
Unfortunately, the D5600 doesn't have AF fine tune, so everything goes out the window if focus isn't accurate. One of the big issues with low end DSLRs.
I got my month ago its really good camera I like it it's from 100% 70% its depend on person skill not camera
Are JPEG colors improved over a6400 or they are same. Having pleasant skin tones is important to me and I am confused between A6100 and A6400.
6100 and 6400 are same generation, so same JPEG colors.
If you have the extra money, get the 6400. Its a much nicer camera. If you dont, the 6100 is still nice. Maybe upgrade the lens 1-2 years down the road.
Same. Time to adjust your white balance, as that's the key with ANY camera on getting good skin tones. Even in RAW.
Brings viewfinder from the 90s
Canadiens are so nice that even wild animals do not fear them, but apparently (7:03) they aren't always aware of their surroundings.
I just viewed "Is the a6000 still good for 2020?". It had a lot of positive comments. I won't be surprised if those with poverty issues will have a long wait for price drops and owning a camera. It's the fault of measurebators who are brand marketers in disguise generating troll comments.
x-t200 then?
Hmm... Another A6100 entry level camera review that pairs it with that definitely not entry level £1200 16-55 f/2.8 G lens.
Sure, but they also talked about the, uh, less than perfect kit 16-50.
Why do I find the pictures of a6100 more sharp/better color than other old expensive fullframe cameras like canon 6d or nikon d610!! even better that canon7d nikon 7100/72000 etc!! WTF sony a6100 is more sharper and the color looks awesome in my eyes!! Anybody else finding this like me?
well done for the poppy
SONY please price it correctly in India!!! This is the true successor to the Legendary Panasonic Lumix G85!!! M50 is not comparable to the A6100 in video at all. 6k down sampled 4k with sweet phase detection AF blows away the M50 n also 1080p120 with AF omg!!. G85 has IBIS but at this point inferior stills capability and low light video(still far better than m50).
This camera could be truly excellent for videographers IF THEY AT LEAST put CINE1 and CINE2 profiles....at least. But no, just shoots 4K.
In my country, the new 6100 with kit lens cost the same with A6400 with a kit lens (in some shops).
Seriously, if this is the "entry level A6000 series it should be priced lower.
I skipped Sony APS-C when deciding on mirrorless. I can't stand crappy lenses. Most of their budget zooms are rubbish.
Gosh even in Canada the animals are friendly....
Didn’t this camera come out years ago?
No
A wild Gordon Laing appears!
Who else like that red color flower ✌️😅
I'd love to buy it -- but the ergonomics look horrible for someone with big hands.
So jealous that you have Magpies there on the west and we have none in the east. They are a beautiful if not testy bird. :)
This camera body costs as much as a 6400 body or X-T30 with kit lens, and twice that of an M50 with kit lens in Europe.
No touch screen......hmmmm. Great video and commentary like usual.
It DOES have a touchscreen. They were complaining that it wasn't usable in the menus. Which makes sense, since the LCD is quite small, as are the boxes for each menu item.
that car scared the shit out of me
Me too.
Jordan jumping on frame gave me FNAF vibes lol.
11fps is the natural shutter speed of human eyes as in the speed your bain processes optical info
Thanks for the review Chris and Jordan. Even more interesting are the comments posted by one Christian Fiore. He is either a Sony employee or paid by Sony to promote them on social media.
I think this because:
1/ He has posted many more comments than anyone else about this video.
2/ Every comment he has posted either -
(a) Talks up the camera or Sony in general.
(b) Talks down the weaknesses of the camera or Sony in general.
(c) When other posters have commented on the merits of non Sony cameras has criticised every one of them.
You're just a fake and have been caught out so just leave!
This is the second Sony fake poster l've spotted in recent weeks. Both posting under DPReview videos.
good video.
