Can't believe everybody complains about the body style of the a6 series...to me it's one of the best looking out of all the mirrorless cameras..nice and low profile.
@Mr Tech I agree these cameras have a ton of negatives I have/had 4 a6000 a6300 a6400 a6600 & did review videos for each one,, many things remain unaddressed by Sony so its great to see product releases like fuji xt4 & nikon z50

This camera has aged well. Numerous successful TH-camrs have and use the a6100 every day. Love that Sony is working so hard at the camera game. If you’re just getting started this will serve you well for years to come.
I do like my A6100. Body style is nice without bulges of DSLRs. Agree on the menus - focus settings are in different places. You can reassign alot of buttons to menu functions. Battery charge is decent - was taking wildlife shots for 3 hours one battery in 103degF temperatures - let the camera sleep after 1 min. Having a view finder really helps in bright sunlight. Price is good right now. If you're coming from a point-and-shoot camera - these cameras are complex and you need alot of training (the manual is 580 pages). The lens markets need more E-mount mid-priced Telephoto/zoom lens. Sigma 100-400 E-mount coming out soon. A major software update to allow more touch screen control and more logical menu flow would be nice - but I'm not holding my breath. You get alot of bang for the buck.
I have always liked Sony cameras. This is another of their entry point models I would consider. Thank you for this honest review. No camera is perfect but we gotta work with what we have.

I just bought it and found this video. I’m super pleased! I tried out the canon powershot mark ii and then mark ii neither compares to this! The auto focus is amazing!
Okay the body design is meh I agree. It's not nicer looking than Panasonic, Fuji or Canon and everybody knows Sony's menus are the most atrocious things in existence. All of those criticisms were justified. People get fixated on buying a product and watch reviews and want people to sing praise to the product they either bought or want to buy so they can feel good about their purchase. Be honest with yourselves - he didn't say it's the ugliest camera in the world but the design is boring and plain, especially compared to the beauty of Fuji cameras. Son'y menus do suck and the fact they can't implement a touch screen into their cameras is also such an annoying thing people have been complaining about for the longest time. I really don't see any bias here at all, you guys need to be a little more objective.

I personally love the 18-105 f4 g lens. It might be a bit longer than you like, but as far as all around goodness, it’s been fantastic for me. I’ve had it since about 2014 I think and it’s never done wrong by me. Look around and you can find it for about 600 dollars.

What's so special about Fujifim xt-30.... every second review on youtube puts it on top of the camera lists. I got into this trap and bought it and most of the issues you listed here for Sony 6100 are also true for Fujifilm Xt-30.
I'm running into problems where the autofocus is constantly jittering/hunting real slightly. Maybe I have the autofocus set to aggressively? I have it on the fastest settings. Also, this is a really good bang for your buck 4k30 for recording yourself for streams and youtube. You don't need the added features of the 6400 and the 6600 to get quality still video.
Maybe you should have got an unbiased person to do this review. You are a bit harsh. Sony is doing pretty darn good right now! Maybe you should figure out why they are so successful before you embarrass yourself. The way the camera looks is subjective. Keep your opinions to yourself and state the facts.

My friends have the a6300 and a6400 and in my tests, there's not a huge difference in shakiness when using the kit lens. For a starter I would definitely reccommend the a6100 as well, for the price you can find it right now, and the inclusion of 4k and 1080p slowmo it's absolutely worth it. I'm probably going to upgrade from my a6000 as well.

Yes your mistaken. This is a much larger sensor and will handle low light much better. I love the rx100 cameras tho.....So small and powerful. I have an rx100ii, an a6000 and a a7III. The larger the sensors the better in low light. That being said I sneak my rx100ii into concerts all the time and it works well depending on the stage lighting.
If they're 4K videos - you'll bring the computer "to it's knees" I pull them into my video editor to view them. Also Windows won't recognize raw .ARW files. Nice that they give you thumbnails of the video files.
It depends on what your planning on photographing. Landscape get a wide angle lens. Portrait get a 50 - 80mm. If you don’t know get a zoom 16-35 or a 24-70. If your doing wildlife you may want a 70-200 or 300mm lens. You have to narrow down what your primary photography is and start there. Hope this helps.

This a good review but you breezed over the lack of image stabilization (IM). It's sad that Sony and other camera manufactures cripple their cameras by omitting features that photographers want. What entry level photographer does NOT want image stabilization? Wouldn't an entry level photographer need IM more than anyone else? In the same vein, Sony removed the flash from the a6600. This makes no sense.
I’ll take the autofocus. Many lenses are stabilized. I believe the kit lens has stabilization. It comes in handy in lower light and slower shutter speeds. The autofocus comes in handy with every shot.
So tired of hearing about the menus. Look.....these things are extremely versatile cameras. We need this stuff. There’s a my menu that you can custom setup for your normal go to settings. There’s a function button that brings you to many of the frequently changed settings. It’s also customizable. Yes the normal menus are huge and that’s because it’s an extremely robust camera. Come on. Get real. Take the time to set your camera up properly and it’s a non issue. I have this and a a7III. The A7III has more dials and buttons but basically the same menu setup. If you get used to using your camera and set it up customized the way you want it they are fine. It’s like somehow people want to just be lazy and have the thing read your mind as to what you want. Hey......it’s called auto if your gonna do that. Anyone actually using this camera to its fullest wont have a problem taking the time to customize the camera for themselves. It’s not that hard. Plenty of TH-cam’s on setting these up.
a6100 a6400 cameras have slightly improved battery life vs previous generation,,,,I think it is still poor, that's why I got a6600 with Z battery for vlogging
Battery life is decent - was taking wildlife shots for 3 hours in 103degF temperatures - let the camera sleep after 1 min. Battery charges quickly through phone charger USB

Rz no it's basically an A6400 in a A6000 body. It's hugely better than A6000/A6300/A6500 in videos. It however lacks any picture profiles(that's sad).

David M umm that would result in the opposite. You need to find a way to turn the contrast to the lowest.

I like it a lot because of its small and compact body. With interchangable lens and flippable screen.
you literally get used to the menu within a week of using it, you're talking about it like it's always your first time whenever you go into the menu

Gimbals do work, but the kit lens and a lot of sony's lenses have in-lens stabilization.
