Squall Leonhart stands as one of the most popular characters to grace the Final Fantasy franchise and he played an important role in the earlier Kingdom Hearts games, where he was known as Leon.
Throughout this video, we will discuss how Leon's role changed as the Kingdom Hearts series progressed, leading all the way up to his brief appearance in Kingdom Hearts 3 Re:mind.

I’ve always wondered why Squall kicks it so casually with Cloud’s group. Like he legit talks to Aerith like they’ve been friends since Final Fantasy VII.

When I was a kid, I would always name Squall Leon when playing FF8, as a nod to Leon Kennedy. When he referred to himself as Leon in KH the first time; it’s been how many years and I still can’t pick up my jaw from the floor
Squall (FFVIII), Leon (RE), and Dante (DMC) are all quite similar in appearance and thus for me share some kinship.

I always thought Leon was a good representation of what Squall would have grown up to be. His personality seems more in line with how he acted in the late game of FF8.
And the Dissidia trilogy he was still the same but in KH he became such a sweetheart

After clearing KH3 Re:Mind, Leon says "A clue inside a dream? I've heard that before...". But you wonder where. It could be a reference to Laguna. There's so much they could do with the FF characters from Radiant Garden. The world seems like a fusion of FF7 and 8. It being called "garden", along with "SOLDIER" possibly being a thing going off Jiminy's Journal.
Laguna was originally meant to appear in BBS in the Mirage Arena, but they scrapped the idea (something to do with including him in Dissidia 012. Like, they could only include him in one of those games) so ya never know if they decide to find a new spot for him to make an appearance in the future. I hope so at least.
Same here. It looks like a possibility. What else could Squall be referring to? If only we could get a game focusing on the Restoration Committee's story.
They definitely need to do more with them and in hoping where Kingdom Hearts is going they add more and more Square Enix and Final Fantasy representation
I thought it was a reference to Chain of memories but that wouldn’t make much sense.
When I was playing Kingdom Hearts back when in the day, I had no knowledge of Final Fantasy until I looked at the character descriptions in the journals. Used to think they were all OG like Sora, Kairi, and Riku. Now after years of exposure, I should really replay the old KH games.
Another note, I had no idea Squall met Rinoa in the KH canon and received a letter from her. Yet we get nothing after that for years! FF8 was my first FF game. Would have been so nice to see her in KH3.
Welcome to the club. I had no Idea who Leon, Cloud, Sephorath, Yuffie, Cid, or Arith they first time I played Kingdom Hearts. But they all played an important role and I STILL despise that one winged angle! He’s a monster!😡
To be honest when I Squall call himself Leon in Kindom hearts I thought it was a miss translation in English I was shock(P.S Final fantasy 8 is my favorite final fantasy game)

Well I knew it wasn't a mistranslation when Yuffie calls him Squall, and he corrects her. So I knew it was intentional, but I didn't know the behind-the-scenes reason for his name change (to keep his inclusion in the game as a surprise) until fairly recently.
I always viewed my Leon as squall after the events of 8 when he is stuck in time compression (yes I know rinoa saves him). I always chalked his name changed up the world of eight dying and being an “I’m embarrassed I failed” type of thing since he talks about failing his home world and have it not just be referring to failing hollow bastion.
The Squall who stuck in time kompression might be the Squall in FF Mobius. Have you seen it?
I haven't played Re:Mind, so imagine my shock when I saw CGI Leon. Great video!

I love squall leonhart he's always been my favorite ff character cuz when I was in foster care I related to him in so many levels I felt alone my brother and sisters were separated from me my family didn't want me cuz apparently defending myself and friends from bullys was a bad thing.
I'm so disappointed with how they shoved the final fantasy guys aside in 3. Them being in the DLC doesn't make up for it either. It was almost like they were just thrown in there to make people like myself calm down. Seeing the two franchises together was what drew me in.
And before someone says about Sora and the others: they don't count. (I love them but they don't) They were made for THIS game. They aren't from another final fantasy.

I really want to see a more personal interaction between the Restoration Committee and Ansem and his apprentices. Yeah I know it was mostly Xehanort and Malifacent that ruined Radiant Garden but they did help with it, and I kind of want to see how it would be handled
Seipher was younger than Squall (Leon), Aerith and Yuffie in KH. Also if Squall had a keyblade he could’ve been able to fight back. If Lea was able to get one by virtue of using his past Nobody abilities to help the good guys, why can’t he face his doubt and try again?
I always assumed with all the ff characters that some random heartless started pouring into their worlds >.> and they being the obvious strong hearted and willed ones survive
I also don't think side characters like rinoa for example are forgotten. We see the story through sora eyes mostly so there is going to be many people he never sees or hears about

Seeing a young man like Sora for Leon brought hope to the Young Warriors eyes and he was able to look past how and know why he was chosen and know the reasons behind it and understand them easy young Warrior Leon wood righteousness and virtue silently however but over the course of the Kingdom Hearts series as well as Final Fantasy he has put his role into complete action day by day year by year to helping Sora and his friends fight this could see when darkness and I can't wait to see you what you'll do in the future franchises of Kingdom Hearts

I’m tempted to ask for a Xehanort origins video, simply because I fully expect it to take well over an hour when you consider time travel, reaching old age, possessing Terra, spending some years under Ansem the Wise’s tutelage, ejecting his heart, following the separate journeys of both Ansem SoD and Xemnas, his restoration, and then summoning all his past selves back for KH3...yeah...
But for real, either Xemnas, Saix, or Axel would be great to see.

i had heard speculation that squall x rinoa is an indirect apology towards cloud x aerith fans (but square enix never mentioned it like that of course). So seeing Leon together with Aerith here reminds me of that speculation.
Holy, Squall's original artwork is so cool. Leon's too.
Also, Leon is like a matured Squall. No wonder some people said they are like different characters.

Kingdom Hearts 1 is my favorite game of all time. I can play through it again and again and never get tired of it. I've been a fan of your Final Fantasy Union for a while, and when I saw this thumbnail this morning, I got concerned and thought "Who's this poser? Does FFU have another channel?" Pleasantly surprised, I got to wake up to a really nice story from the guy I respect about my favorite series. I noticed you've been working on this channel for a long time, so I wish you the best! Can't wait to see more! I'd be most interested in seeing Cloud (Since he's my hero and I cosplay him) and of course Sora down the line!

I'm excited to see whatever videos you come up with for this channel. I was an FF fan before KH even existed, but over the years, I found that KH is now my favorite game series, even above FF. I learned about this channel from your Community post on the FF Union channel. It was a no brainer instant subscribe! I look forward to all your future videos. Especially when you eventually cover X/Unchained X/Union Cross. Though I have been following them closely, I know many KH fans have unfortunately not. And with the story nearing it's conclusion, I'm sure many would appreciate your summary and analysis.

Just the journey of the FF characters from the destruction of Hollow Bastion to finding refuge in Traverse Town can fill a whole game.
You know it would be nice if Kingdom Hearts had more Final Fantasy more representation like Leon’s Girlfriend or maybe Lightning and her Sister, etc etc etc. I also would want Yozora and Noctis to meet as well-
I played KH before I ever played any Final Fantasies. I've since played 8 and love Squall in his original game, but I'll always know him best as Leon and as one of the best KH characters

I found it odd that Kh2's Radiant Garden suddenly looks like BBS' Radiant Garden in Kh3... Even though not a lot of time has passed between kh2 and kh3.
Yeah I didn't like that. It's like they just transformed the town like how it was before, not a single scratch, when it shouldn't be like that. That was just laziness on Square.
I’m not sure that it was really like that in KH3 tho if I’m being completely honest. It was more of a mixture of how Raidant Garden looked in KH2 and BBS...not strictly just the BBS version. Go back and play the game in limit cut/see the base games cutscenes featuring that world; it’s a mix of both of those areas. This comment seems kind of nit- picky in that sense; but that’s just me:
I hate that they made Rinoa a part of Squall's lore, but have yet to include her in the series. With her inclusion into Dissidia NT, we may never see her in Kingdom Hearts. I really want closure to Squall's story -- there's so much still unknown about it. I hate that we may never know.
He is my favorite FF character ever though -- and while I find a couple things about his story in KH to be a bit insulting, I'm still glad for this video. Thanks!

I fanboyed like a little kid upon seeing Leon for the first time in such a long time. I hadn't played much of FFVIII then, but the slight deviations from his old design as well as his Gunblade were a sight for sore eyes. To this day I can't decide as to whether his KHI or KHII design is my favorite.
Ff8 is my favorite Final fantasy game and Squall has always been my favorite character in the franchise tied with Kain and Cecil.
She's rule in Kingdom hearts felt like a continuation of ff8.. it is always seem less and I love it.

In Kingdom Hearts 1, I saw Squall as mentor figure for Sora; as Sora didn’t know anything about the Keyblade or the Heartless.
In Kingdom Hearts 2 and beyond, Squall is more of an ally for Sora and everyone else. I really hope we get to see more of the Final Fantasy characters in the next game
I wonder who gave leon a scar face if not Saifer because in this verse He still a bad kid in KH 2 so who gave leon a scar? even saifer had scar too they both had same scar. Maybe from just training with someone? but who? Ansem? or some master who training him the art of war. what about saifer? who gave saifer a scar? from accident or something but i am sure they both dont Born with scar as a baby. there still Plot hole with final fantasy characters that will never be answer just scar face alone.
He was 15 when the Heartless attacked his home. It's possible one of them gave them to him when he tried to defend the town and failed to.

I'm curious what can be said about Zack and Sephiroth. Leon is so clear, but those FF7 Boys...
I wonder about the black feather shown at the end of BBS. Of course, it could be alluding to Sephiroth, but Zack's final boss in his game (which was also a prequel on the PSP, just like BBS) was Genesis, who also had a black wing.
@@gamingreploid1866 I'm pretty sure it alludes to Sephiroth rather the Genesis, but like I said, it's confusing. Zacks not from Olympus coliseum right? Is he from radiance garden like everyone else? If so, how did he get there? What does it even mean for Sephiroth to be an embodiment of Clouds Darkness? I love that Final Fantasy Characters are basically ultimate universe counter parts. I mean look at Leon and Seifer's age gap. But some of them have confusing and convoluted lore. Also, what is even UP with Vivi?
@@clowTM I assume that Zack actually IS from Olympus Coliseum in the KH universe. Much like how Seifer is from Twilight Town, with no prior history with Squall, despite their clear connection in FF8. So I think, unfortunately, that the same appies to Cloud/Zack's connection. And with Sephiroth being Cloud's darkness in the KH universe, and BBS taking place 10 years before KH1, then Cloud must've been young too. We don't know Cloud's canonical KH age (since many FF characters appear as different ages) but he was 21 in the original FF7. Which would make him 11 years old during BBS. So I find it hard to believe Sephiroth was already running about at that time. Though, if Cloud was aged up (maybe 30 in KH1, and 20 in BBS) then it could be possible. Since the Radiant Garden/Hollow Bastion fall to darkness took place about 9 years before KH1, maybe that scene with the feather took place then. Maybe it was Cloud using the power of darkness to survive and travel to another world, and that's when Sephiroth's feather fell.
Hmmm...maybe it was Sephiroth after all, lol. I was thinking one way at the beginning of typing this out, and now I think I changed my own mind. :P
I'm not too sure how literal they are on Sephiroth being Cloud's darkness. Only for Jiminy's Journal in KH1 saying he was "once known as the greatest of swordsman" (unless this has just been outright retconned). If this is the case, Zack could have come from Radiant Garden just like Cloud and Sephiroth did to compete in Olympus. Another thing I notice is Zack's outfit having the SOLDIER logo on it. If SOLIDER really does exist in Radiant Garden, it could be a connection.

I never played h the Final fantasy games (shocking I know) but Leon is honestly my favorite character in the game(s) next to Leon and Yuffie and Arith! Leon did what he could to restore Radient garden like what it used to be! A peaceful and beautiful haven for all! And him going through world to world hoping to rescue anyone from the darkness was amazing showing his dedication to protect his friends and his dearly loved one… and there’s this one question that got me thinking the first time I met him: “How did he manage to get Simba’s lucky summoning stone?” I might have to make a guess that he found it in his travels with the gummi ship but was the world destroyed or was weakened and passed it down to him? If Sora transforms to fit in with the world, surely Leon would probably have that happen to him as well. I may be over thinking it but it’s just a theory. A GAME- anyways could you please do a deep dive with Cloud and Auron cause I bearly know anything about them cause I never played the FF series. All I know from them is that Cloud is a mighty warrior that wields a big sword and is the protagonist in his series and Auron is probably having a troubled past but means well and is a hero like Sora, Donald, and Goofy believes. And in Jimmy’s journal I quote: “What stories does he have in store?” His first words was “This is my story. And you’re not in it” was pretty cool but I don’t know the context so I can’t judge. Sorry that this is a very long comment and it feels like an essay but if you made it this far thank you for reading and let me know in the replies if you can help me fill in the gaps and shame me for not playing any Final fantasy games 🥲

I want a solid FF VIII remake. The remaster is my jam but after VIIR is complete we need VIIIR.
We're not done with Radiant Garden, we've been getting teases of what's to come, Melody Of Memories showed that we are going to learn more about Kairi's past.
In Melody Of Memories it showed a Young Kairi being chased by Apprentice Xehanort and Shadow Heartless, The sky was dark and stormy, the only time it has ever been like that was during the Aqua Vs Terranort fight in BBS. That means we will see the downfall of Radiant Garden. It was thanks to Maleficent that Radiant Garden fell to Darkness according to Leon.
not to mention that when maleficient travelled back in time in union x, "darkness" said that a data version of radiant garden wasn't created so that she wouldn't find out what happened in that world, so there's obviously more to radiant garden that's yet to be explored. that world still has a lot to unravel, kairi's past, subject x, its fall to darkness, etc.
Hearing this makes me question why nomura felt like the FF characters weren't necessary in Kh3, i understand you have the game has its own cast but they are fighting their own fight just as the FF cast were.
Squall- Why the hell am I hanging out with Final Fantasy VII instead of VIII?
My theory is once squall/leon got the letter from his loved one the events of Final Fantasy 8 played out and then he went back to radiant Garden to help the others find Sora. Comment below if you think otherwise

I don't believe this Video. Squall wasn't born in Radiant Garden if anyone knows everything about the Final Fantasy Franchise you would know Squall's real and true Origin. I wish they would explain how the Final Fantasy Characters discovered/traveled to the Disney Universe and went to some of the Disney Worlds and learned about the Heartless and Darkness and everything
