The only time you'll see Riku cast Dark Firaga in KH1 is when Sora shoots Fire magic at Ansem-Riku and counters back with Dark Firaga. Pretty cool considering this move is staple of Riku's arsenal from KH2 since. Also if you cast gravity on human form Jafar, he'll cast a rainbow protective shield around himself that's eerily similar to an attack Kurt Zisa uses constantly.
Dark Firaga is also what Riku tries to murder Sora with in the cutscene before the fight in the entrance hall. It's also one of his sleights in Chain of Memories.

HE has been stealing from Cid, and that is also why everyone knows Pinocchio when they reach Monstero (which cause a LOT of confusion for me until I found this hidden scene).
It also happens if you visit the Accessory shot after Agrabah and before Monstro, which is when I saw it. I assume that they expected you to go there once you got green trinity, because they tell you to, and then notice that there's no shopkeeper.
Destiny Islands is an anagram for It's Disney Land. The trio thinking their world is too small is a reference to the Disney song It's A Small World which is a song commonly played at Disney parks. In Neverland Sora never regains his shadow until all the shadow Sora's are defeated.
"The original Kingdom Hearts is my favorite game of all time." Well, we're off to a good start. I God damn love the first Kingdom Hearts. Like I've played through it at least 20 times. And though I've warmed up more to Kingdom Hearts 2 in recent years. And I can appreciate it for what it is I always felt like a lot of their design choices went away from what I loved about the first game. But it honestly doesn't feel like anyone else feels that way, everyone and their brother will go on for days about Kingdom Hearts 2, and whenever Kingdom Hearts is brought up it's like; "Oh yeah, it's fine. But it's so awkward and clumsy. Thank God KH2 fixed it." Nice to finally meet someone else. Well, time to actually watch the video.
KH2 is way more "videogamey" if that makes sense. KH1 is the better aesthetic experience imo. It's just so comfy. Like you're getting attacked by Heartless in Traverse Town then you make it into the safety of the Dalmation's house with all those unique furniture assets. Despite the few NPCs it still feels lived in, you get the feeling there's people in those houses with the bright orange lights in the windows hiding from the monsters in the streets. KH2 has more to do but the worlds still feel barren. As an aside I just finished 358/2 Days for the first time and I love the fly-on-the-wall perspective sneaking around as an Organization member gives you of the events in the Disney worlds.
@@Tasoq Fun fact, Nomura wasn't going to make CoM at first. He was just gonna do 2 as it is now, without CoM as context. So that confusion you feel is actually intended, especially since Sora is equally as confused.

That's how I defeated the dragon Maleficent Boss fight. There's a vine close by you can jump on and walk to the top. Maleficent can't hit you from there. Just spam Triangle for a solid, 15 minutes and she goes down.
#72-76 to me are so brilliant, because not only it shows how clever the developers and writers were in thinking of players trying this out, but it really changes the story and development of Sora and Riku's relationship. It becomes less of best friends having a falling out and more of Sora sensing something's not right and wanting to confront who this Riku imposter is.
You can tell Riku is already possessed by the SoD in that cutscene too, as he knows Sora doesn't recognize him. Something I never considered is that maybe the SoD/Riku kidnapped Pinocchio because he knew of Pinocchio's potential to grow a heart. Hearts are synonymous with souls in this series, so it'd make sense that the SoD would be curious as to how a once inanimate assemblage of wood could have a heart.
That moment when you finally start a new KHI playthrough after discovering and watching Regular Pat's videos for almost 3 years and now you just keep using stuff from videos like this that you remember to enhance the playthrough. That is to say, I appreciate you for these videos man. Really makes the KHI experience a lot more enjoyable.
I've played Kingdom Hearts so many times, so I came into this video all ready to be like "ah, what a nice collection of facts, most of which I knew but I like the video nevertheless". Nope, this was a half hour of mostly totally new stuff! Really enjoyed that, nice one!
Love that, as long as you dont defeat Shadow Sora, Sora doesnt have a shadow of his own in Neverland, since its literally his own shadow being animated
In deep jungle, when you get the slides and it shows the Castle it is the original design if restored Radiant garden and Kairi recognizes the castle and speaks from soras heart hence he says he doesnt know why
Pressing triangle to have your party attack a specific enemy is genuinely something I used a lot and I wish was in the other games as well. It was really useful situations when you wanted to distract a tougher enemy and clear out the rest of the group first.
In the Green Room in Traverse Town, the paintings around the room correspond to the clock. Every time you hit the clock, it advances the time 1 hour. When the time matches one of the paintings it makes a noise. After all three it makes a special noise and spawns the chest.
“This is all to say that I think Sora, Riku and Kairi timed their voyage specifically to avoid going back to school; they’re delinquents! School-skippers!” This is why I love your writing, Pat.
I have been playing this game since it came out and like yourself beaten it more times than I can count. In my last playthrough I found out you can freeze the bubbles. There was a good amount of things I learned from this video. Your humor is spot on too, you got jokes!
That’s was really interesting! The npc in Aladdin, I’ve never seen them for what I can remember. Also the stuff like skip the boss, ora seeing riku later on in monstro, are pretty cool. The tracks from halloween that plays just once also was a wtf! Thank you for this there were a lot of things I didn’t know and it was fun to see. I’ve to say though that it was a bit hard to follow even with subtitles, you were going so fast I had to go back a lot of times, and that ruined a bit the video 😞
You earned my sub simply by showing how to get that chest in Hollow Bastion by freezing the bubble. That thing drove me crazy for years. Edit: Also because "Depressediny Island" made me laugh
#17 I’ve always assumed that Cid is referring to moogles upstairs, but Pinocchio makes much more sense. #27 I never knew you could jump straight to the cliff. Nice shortcut!
I'm someone finding your video 2 years later, and finding it fairly interesting honestly. I knew some of these, but yeah, not all, and that's always fun. Thank you for sharing. Might even replay this just to do so sometime.
I may be overthinking this but the one about the Halloweentown section of the game taking place on September 25th brings up some interesting thoughts about the timeline of these games. We know that in KH2 they say it took roughly a year for Sora to have his memories restored by Namine, and the start of KH2 takes place in early September or late August since it's the last six days of Summer Vacation at the beginning of the game. We also know that Sora sleeps for roughly 316 days, so not a whole year, from 358/2 Days. With all this in mind, if KH1 ends sometime in October presumably, and even assuming Chain of Memories starts IMMEDIATELY after, the internet tells me CoM takes place over the course of roughly a month, which puts us squarely in November, so 316 days from then, which is roughly 10 months, puts us back in... September. They really paid attention to the details on these things.
That Hollow Bastion chest in the Waterway you need to freeze the bubble to get is the whole reason I found your channel. I got so befuddled on my first full playthrough that I popped up a guide just to find it, and your other video was the one I found.
More testing required but something I discovered on a lvl 1 run recently: If donald or goofy are knocked out, it appears as though using a trinity mark revives them to half health
The thing I love about Disney movies/games/parks/etc. in general is a thing called “plussing”. This is where if anyone has an idea or any small detail, they will add it in some form into their games or movies. This adds a unique element of realism in these and it gives the characters more life. Basically when they plus stuff it is like a million little Easter eggs that are noticed probably more when you revisit Disney’s creations.
This video deserves a like only for the #57, that was funny. There were at least 15-20 things I didn't know and I have played the game four times, so I think you have made a good work.
Just found you and wanted to tell you that I've now watched every video you've made. You do really good content and have what I generally consider to be a really good sense of humor. Keep doing content dude. Idk how in the hell you dont have more subs but you're definitely one that's gonna make it to the bigger channel size. 🤙
Okay, #57 is actually really interesting. I never noticed the Days to Halloween timer so that's really interesting that using canon plot points of other games in the series helped us decipher when exactly this game takes place. I'm also going to estimate that the main Sora games all take place in the mid-to-late 2010s based on the fact Sora has a smartphone in KH3 and KH3 only takes place a few weeks, maybe a couple months after KH2 and KH2 only takes place a year after KH1. So I'm going to estimate based on your estimation of September and October that KH1 takes place September and October 2015. Even though it came out in 2002. This means that KH2, DDD and KH3 would all take place in 2016 (with a portion of KH3 possibly taking place in early 2017), BBS in 2005, Days throughout 2015 and 2016, Chain of Memories probably happens around late October 2015 into maybe around the November 8-12 range in 2015. This is all just a theory tho.
There were a surprising handful of secrets I had no idea about (27, 44, 46, 55, 65, 69, 70, 76, Deprestiny Islands😆, 85). Great video👍🏼 Also: When kairi is telling sora on the first day on the islands that she doesn't remember anything about where she came from, the camera doesn't let you see her face or specifically eyes. As a trope in anime, Japanese cinema, and even movies elsewhere, this kind of framing implies that the speaker is lying. Even though melody of memory let's us know that she doesn't remember everything (makes sense since trauma plus her being like 4 to 5 years old) we do know by the end of kh1 that she remembered quite a bit about hollow bastion/radiant garden.
Fantastic video! I've had this game for years & didn't know a lot of that stuff. I learned a whole lot & your jokes are HILARIOUS! (Great editing too btw!)
I love this game so much. It was my first kingdom heart when the 1.5 collection hit North america... so a long story, my brother was a kingdom hearts fan before me, I didn't really care for the franchise at all and just stuck with other games. Well, my brother was stuck on Chernabog, and I decided to help him out of kindness, I died many, many times until I learned his pattern, finally defeated him, and decided to continue onto whatever was left. Boy, I was in for a world of hurt when I got to ansem... mind you, this was my first time playing the game and at the final world too.. but I kept going and saw that satisfying explosion when the world of chaos was taken down. I felt super proud of myself. Since then i consider kh1fm to be my all-time favorite in the franchise. It's just magical... idk how to explain my love for this game.
Here is one others commented on. Sephiroth is left handed, yet in game in KH1, he fights right handed. Could just be an oversight, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Fun fact! In the original ps2 version of the game, there wasn't th a "???" text when displaying a room name that you haven't been to yet, so you can actually see certain room names that are otherwise unseen, such as the "Open Ocean"
Playing through kh1 currently since the PC release. Can’t agree with you more about the charm it holds and the level of immersion it gives you in the Disney worlds. For a 2002 game it is incredible
You can’t turn Minnie around in the journal because of the ears. KH1 tried to emulate the animated look of Mickey and Minnie’s ears, which always face the camera no matter which direction they’re looking. KH2 ditched this mechanic and gave us our first ever side look at the ears.
I came back and revisited this video just to comment that I'm replaying Kingdom Hearts 1 (now on the PC) for the 1000th time, and I noticed for the first time ever that Tidus has his actual little x of a scar on his cheek and I've never noticed that in Kingdom Hearts before. There is always something new, you're totally right.
Cid talking about noises in the shop - after he opens his gummi shop, but before going to monstro, go in and out of the shop to find pinocchio, the little thief.
@@RegularPat I can't wait to give it a try. Hollow Bastion is always fun to go through, but man does having to circle around for those blocks always suck. It's like learning about the Deep Jungle vine skip all over again, hah.
Learned a couple things from this since I didn’t know about some of those save point ones nor the boss drop outs. I learned the alternate scenes just from being curious about the sequence break since Olympus and Monstro weren’t required to play and that you could visit Deep Jungle before Wonderland. I don’t think I’ve ever missed any of the chests in KH1 or KH2, though I can’t say the same for BBS (three characters makes it a little tricky), DDD (huge worlds) or KH3 (three guesses why)
I'm glad you picked up some new stuff! Y'know, when it comes to the chests, I love that KH1 doesn't keep track of them. When all of the other ones have spots in the journal, it makes me go out of my way to get all of them lol
someone probably already said it but the reason they won't let you rotate the model of Minnie mouse is because they don't want to deal with her ears rotating. KH1 is when they actually tried to make Mickey and Minnie look correct to their 2D drawn versions which have ears that change depending on the perspective.
As a fellow owner of the Dan Birlew Kingdom Hearts Bible, I was familiar with a ton of these but learned some new stuff as well! I NEVER would've known about the alternate voicelines when doing things out of their "intended" order 🤯
The "run up darksides arm and smash him in the face" thing is a as nice thing nobody ever notices. I will never forget when i first heard about Kingdom Hearts, it was revealed in a game informer article, actually the issue after a very important & pivotal E3... I say this because it was the same isue where the game cube, SSBM, metroid prime, star fox (gamecube) was announced for nintendo. i remember going to my mom and saying "idk when this comes out, but I NEED a ps2 for this game..." anyway in the article they made that suggestion about fighting darkside... so its something I knew about from the moment I popped the first kingdom hearts into my ps2... good vid
17:16 That's really weird because you SHOULDN'T be able to examine anything while in battle. Did they have to program each examinable object one by one to be locked out during a battle? Or is this just a thing because of the triangle button? I wonder if it works this way in the PS2 version.
The reason for the Peddler only being available at certain times is due to a reference to the Aladdin movie script, which reveals the story was meant to have been told by the Peddler who was who the Genie became after earning his freedom.
If you want a cool and funny glitch, do this in order. 1. When you first arrive at Olympus Coliseum, open the journal in the pause menu then unpause with the journal open 2. Enable the first Olympus Coliseum cutscene with Phil telling you to move the pedestal 3. Move the pedestal but don't talk to Phil yet 4. Reopen the journal and unpause with the journal open 5. Talk to Phil and prepare for a weird cutscene
@@RegularPat Yea so I'm pretty sure what's happening is the game is giving you null prompts and as a result it gives you weird subtitles. The same thing happens when you're finding the blueprints for Alice and open the Chronicles section and unpause it. Be careful though as it can softlock the game if you don't press X fast enough.
The fact that you first learned of this game when you were 5 and are still interested in it truly shows this games grabs peoples attention and was a very special game for a lot of us.
I found out in my playthrough last week that you never need to hop on the hippos in Deep Jungle. The vine swinging areas are connected in such a way you can go back and forth without a single hippo.
Wow I did learn a few things I'm surprised you didn't mention how you can get another cheer from 100 acre woods by beating a bunch of record times on all the mini games
Personally, I like to think that the "not Riku" version of Monstro is a non-canonical bit of foreshadowing for Repliku. I mean, Ansem specifically may not have a need for Pinnochio, but a puppet who grew a heart sounds like the kind of thing the Organization would look into (similar to Young Xehanort's role in the Toy Story world).
Really loving your videos! I couldnt beat maleficent dragon when i was a kid, but now I did at 34 thanks to you. Haha I have a ton of games to play, looking forward to watching more of your work as I move through the games
#11 - Could this be a quirk of the change in the aspect ratio from the original's 4:3 to the modern 16:9? It's thanks to this that the Dragon Ball Z Kai-esque zoom-in of Sora's wake-out head bonk courtesy Kairi was obscured vertically, but more frustratingly for me was not accounted in the next numbered game for Stitch's fourth-wall hijinks, as the horizontal stretch throws off his 4:3 screen positions relative to the 16:9 UI elements. Aside, that keyhole in Aladdin's home got an audible "what?!" outta me, and I don't think I recall that final mentioned treasure chest. This game is thoroughly PS2-era character action-adventure game, plug it into my veeeeins.

It also happens if you visit the Accessory shot after Agrabah and before Monstro, which is when I saw it. I assume that they expected you to go there once you got green trinity, because they tell you to, and then notice that there's no shopkeeper.
Beat the game 3 times (PS2, PS3 and PS4 versions) and you're still making me discover new stuff. Your channel's a goldmine!
Destiny Islands is an anagram for It's Disney Land.
The trio thinking their world is too small is a reference to the Disney song It's A Small World which is a song commonly played at Disney parks.
In Neverland Sora never regains his shadow until all the shadow Sora's are defeated.
Yo thanks for these! That Shadow Sora thing is sorta blowing my mind, I'm gonna have to boot the game up again and check it out for myself
Well actually, I can see the Shadow Sora thing from looking at the video! That's too cool
Pretty sure it's actually an anagram for It's Disney Sland.
It's not an anagram at all as you've removed a number of letters
You clearly don't know what an anagram is...
Cid mentioning things going missing from his shop is in reference to Pinocchio being an encounter part way through the game (before you go to Monstro)
Oh I thought it was a reference to the moogles upstairs possibly taking things to make synthesis recipies
"The original Kingdom Hearts is my favorite game of all time."
Well, we're off to a good start. Thank God KH2 fixed it."
Nice to finally meet someone else.
When Kingdom Hearts 2 came out, I didn't know about Chain of Memories so the beginning of the story confused me for a while lol.
Do you know if I can play KH1 with a PS4?
@@lalahana111 yeah, it’s on the 1.5+2.5 remix (I know I’m late)

Fun fact, Nomura wasn't going to make CoM at first. He was just gonna do 2 as it is now, without CoM as context. So that confusion you feel is actually intended, especially since Sora is equally as confused.
i appreciate content like this, no bullshit, no obnoxious jokes, calm tone. Good insider fanboy shit. killer
"Even as a die hard player you'll likely learn a few things"
Pfft I know everything about this game.
"Triangle or Lockon+Triangle commands donald & goofy in combat"
*Surprised Pikachu face*
You my dude get a sub.
Haha, thank you sir! As Young Eraqus once said, "you might be surprised!"
That's how I defeated the dragon Maleficent Boss fight. There's a vine close by you can jump on and walk to the top. Maleficent can't hit you from there. Just spam Triangle for a solid, 15 minutes and she goes down.
"It's fittingly called Homecoming but I like to call it Depresstiny Islands"
Bravo. Bravo. That was legitimately fucking hilarious.
I always assumed Cid's reference to stolen items and sounds was an early hint about the Moogle shop on the floor above him.
My favourite is goofy wanted to go on the hat lol, his complete serious tone saying something so funny is hilarious!
I . . . . did not know you can cast blizzard on those Bastion warp bubbles that is mind-blowing.
I just did the Deep Jungle tree house boat thing a minute ago.
I've played Kingdom Hearts so many times, so I came into this video all ready to be like "ah, what a nice collection of facts, most of which I knew but I like the video nevertheless". Nope, this was a half hour of mostly totally new stuff! Really enjoyed that, nice one!
The noises that cid hears probably refers to the moogles setting up shop above him
Yeah, I thought that was pretty obvious.
I think it’s referring to a missable scene where Pinocchio is stealing from a chest in cid’s shop
That... Makes sense.
School-skippers!”
This is why I love your writing, Pat.
20 years later and there is still things to discover in kh1
I’m glad you found some new stuff! And yeah I’ve been told all my life that I talk too fast lol, I’ll try to work on that. Thanks for the feedback
@@RegularPat It was just to give you the feedback, but overall I've enjoyed it so much! Thanks again
I was legitimately surprised that there was cutscene variation or editing to make up for if you did things in a different order.
Nice touch.
I am suprised there were a handful of things I did not know even after playing this game multiple times. Thanks for showing me something new
I'm someone finding your video 2 years later, and finding it fairly interesting honestly.
Re: Cid's shop TT1, i always thought that the items disappearing and noises to be the moogles
I'm so impressed with this video! I've played this game so, so many times, and there were SO many things I never picked up on. Very well put together!
That Hollow Bastion chest in the Waterway you need to freeze the bubble to get is the whole reason I found your channel. I got so befuddled on my first full playthrough that I popped up a guide just to find it, and your other video was the one I found.
More testing required but something I discovered on a lvl 1 run recently:
If donald or goofy are knocked out, it appears as though using a trinity mark revives them to half health
"Kingdom Hearts 6⅔ - A Fragmentary Whale" I can't remember the last time I laughed this hard
This is amazing! I didn't know the vast majority of this stuff! You gotta do 2 now!
The combat may seem simple but thats what got me invested, i absolutely love it
Been playing this over and over and never noticed the detail! Thanks for the video :D
24:26 I gotta say that is REALLY cool. The devs actually considered if you were to play that world at that specific point -- wow! I'm amazed
The absolute horror in your voice when Leon ascended to attack lmao
Hey thanks so much, I truly appreciate it! Comments like these keep me going!
#12. That mysterious innkeeper always creeped me out.
There were a surprising handful of secrets I had no idea about (27, 44, 46, 55, 65, 69, 70, 76, Deprestiny Islands😆, 85). Great video👍🏼
Also:
When kairi is telling sora on the first day on the islands that she doesn't remember anything about where she came from, the camera doesn't let you see her face or specifically eyes.
Funny how Jack knows of the heartless before interacting with him, yet he nearly forgets their name in kh2
It is halloween town
The tip you mentioned about fighting Darkside in the beginning is literally what I thought you had to do to beat the boss
I can't believe Sora, Riku, and Kairi were school skippers this whole time, I feel betrayed 😔
Wow that was a fast 28 minutes haha. I learned a lot from this, very well done and funny too.
Thanks for sticking around for all of it!
KH1 is also maybe my favorite game ever or at least in the top 10 and easily my favorite of the KH games! Thanks for the fun video
Today I learned about that Dumbo block puzzle exploit.
My world has been forever changed. Great video!
Love me the Dumbo exploit
@@RegularPat I can't wait to give it a try. Hollow Bastion is always fun to go through, but man does having to circle around for those blocks always suck.
It's like learning about the Deep Jungle vine skip all over again, hah.
Why did the edited monstro dialogue being "riku is it really you?!" Make me cry
At 7:40, the noises are Pinocchio. You can get a cut scene for him, after getting access to Aladdin's world, but before monstro.
someone probably already said it but the reason they won't let you rotate the model of Minnie mouse is because they don't want to deal with her ears rotating. KH1 is when they actually tried to make Mickey and Minnie look correct to their 2D drawn versions which have ears that change depending on the perspective.
Man I love Kingdom Hearts 1. It is my favorite KH game and possible my favorite of all time. The music and mood from it is pure nostalgia.
I say this because it was the same isue where the game cube, SSBM, metroid prime, star fox (gamecube) was announced for nintendo. i remember going to my mom and saying "idk when this comes out, but I NEED a ps2 for this game..." anyway in the article they made that suggestion about fighting darkside... so its something I knew about from the moment I popped the first kingdom hearts into my ps2... good vid

That's really weird because you SHOULDN'T be able to examine anything while in battle.
1. When you first arrive at Olympus Coliseum, open the journal in the pause menu then unpause with the journal open
2. Enable the first Olympus Coliseum cutscene with Phil telling you to move the pedestal
3. Move the pedestal but don't talk to Phil yet
4. Reopen the journal and unpause with the journal open
5. Talk to Phil and prepare for a weird cutscene
Wow I just tried it lmao that's really odd
@@RegularPat Yea so I'm pretty sure what's happening is the game is giving you null prompts and as a result it gives you weird subtitles. The same thing happens when you're finding the blueprints for Alice and open the Chronicles section and unpause it. Be careful though as it can softlock the game if you don't press X fast enough.

KH1 will always be my favorite KH, and likely my favorite game of all time too.
The fact that you first learned of this game when you were 5 and are still interested in it truly shows this games grabs peoples attention and was a very special game for a lot of us.
In Hundred Acre Wood, another one time tune plays when Pooh gets stuck in Rabbit's doorway. It's called "Just An Itty Bitty Too Much".
CID hearing noises and having things stolen is a reference to pinnochio being in there and stealing stuff
All of this is amazing, but what baffles me is the final one. How did they expect anyone to think to do that!?
I found out in my playthrough last week that you never need to hop on the hippos in Deep Jungle. The vine swinging areas are connected in such a way you can go back and forth without a single hippo.
Wow I did learn a few things
I'm surprised you didn't mention how you can get another cheer from 100 acre woods by beating a bunch of record times on all the mini games
If only my friends had loved KH as much as you do when I started playing LOL. This is awesomeee 🔥
I believe Cid is making reference to the Moogles setting up shop above his shop, that would be the noise and I wouldn't be surprised if they Re taking things as well
You know. I've played this game so many times and yet I learned new things.
