I’ve seen some people in the comments say that Troy loved Alberta and would’ve ran off with her had she lived. In my opinion, only half of that statement is true. Yeah, Troy would’ve probably abandoned his wife and family, but not because he loved his mistress. No, Troy was incapable of loving or pleasuring anyone but himself. Alberta and his daughter would’ve have ended up like Rose and his sons: As burdens he felt obligated to provide for rather than blessings he was supposed to cherish. In a way, Alberta was spared.

I remember reading a story with a similar situation, and there's two things that they had in common, a man in the story wanted two women at once, one to provide the benefits of a wife and the other to provide the passion and love of a wife.
Rose provided the benefits; cooking, cleaning, raising the kids, basic necessities that a wife is known for.
Alberta was the passion and love for Troy. Her death was the end of that love and passion, making him feel like he was back to the dullness of his life. What he felt like he wasn't getting with Rose, he went to Alberta for instead of communicating and compromising with his wife.
I understand Troy feeling like he needed something more in their relationship, but he did it in the worst way, not even considering that Rose was going through the same trials he was. The selfishness of cheating is more damaging than any loss of connection in a relationship, and anyone who goes through with it like Troy fails to take it into consideration.

Honestly, I don’t know how to feel about this. I know the situation all too well. I have seen it displayed so many times. It truly upsets me. I don’t know if I could have stayed...Clearly, she has already sacrificed herself;her happiness; and her peace for a man that doesn’t really love her. Now he has this baby without a mother. I know she stays and helps him with the baby, but I don’t feel she would have been selfish or any less strong to finally walk away. Maybe he finally needs to take some accountability for his actions and all he has put her through. She has had to try to carry herself and him through their marriage and now, because of his actions and his selfishness she has to carry his baby from another woman? Why are black women always expected to be “strong?” He should be trying to be all of that for her...she’s clearly worn out. Yes, she is strong and yes, she is an amazing women but she doesn’t have to stay and support him to show that.

I'm not sure if you could describe it as justice, but she ends up raising the baby. She truly came to love that little girl and I believe she said it was a gift to her to finally have a daughter (not completely sure if it was said in that manner).

I feel bad for that child. Mother dies giving the child birth. Then the father dies. Then we don't know if rose will give that child up for adoption later on or mistreat the child because she's not her biological parent.

People judge Troy, but i think he truly meant it when he said he found a new side of his with Alberta. There are subtle hints in Bono's words when he heard them "laughing" and "smiling". Troy felt alive with her. Sure, he cheated, but he had courage to admit it and tried to move on. You can see his entire world falling apart when he hears Augusta died.
Rose was building fences to keep him in when he wanted out.

Women always having to stay shut an endure the husband's Adulteries and Duo with the heartache always having to say silent, raising other people's children being okay with the father having outside children nope. I refuse, I refuse not. I not I even if you cheat. You gotta go because it's killing me more to look at. You know, you're laying down another woman every other day. Can't do it. And if you love me as much as I love you. You wouldn't do that to me. Because you know it would kill me inside
