My step-mom/ person wasn't kind and caring at all but the had a whole lot of SELFISHNESS TO SHOW! HER PARENTS WERE THE SAME WAY! I never wanted to marry anyone who had a child because I would never want to be like the Step-person was to us! I actually love children but I just kept myself away for that type of situation!
And what no one will acknowledge, especially the women, is that child warmed rose. It gave her a new life and purpose. Most of the way we receive and experience life is through unconventional ways. Love and duty manifest in many different ways.
Very good observation, I didn’t think of it that way. And you’re right again, life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans. The best example I can think of is when my Grandma was forced to adopt my drug addict father’s German Shepard puppy. She hated that dog at first, 10 years later they were inseparable and it gave her a sense of purpose and security.
GTFOH. You males constantly cry about how you don't want to raise another man's child, even if she had it before she met you. Yet you'll try to make it seem like it's good for a woman to take care of some mans affair baby. Hypocrisy and gaslighting.
@teresamagnusson There was still that respect for Troy it was shown during the funeral when Rose had to correct their son. We truly do not understand how our elders make this relationship thing work and what hills to die on and when to move forward and keep things together.
Everything he put her through, heck every cruel word he threw at his son, yet he STILL had the nerve to look surprised by the last thing she said. The realness of this story is too much.

He can't ask her to do that, he did but he was a bastard for that, she should've left him and that house and started over, he made the mess he should live in it, loyalty isn't a man or woman thing it's a character quality.
The thing is the movie takes place at a time when women didn’t have as much agency and independence as they do today. So, they couldn’t just leave even if they wanted to. It’s a harsh reality a lot of them faced back then and they were more or less stuck relying on those types of men for survival. So, her hands were pretty much tied
The thing is this movie really does show what many women have had to put up with especially back in the day😢 You dont have to be domestically violent toward someone to break them down. To continuously neglect, ignore, belittle, bully, control, be in the streets, whore around, being a peice of trash spouse, etc causes that person to eventually turn cold toward you. Once a lady turns cold b/c how you treat her-its a wrap. She may stay with you as the Rose character did but the warmth, love, affection, etc is long gone. True story: Back in the day my grandad had got another lady pregnant around the same time he got my grandma pregnant with kid #7. I didnt know I had another uncle until I was in late middle school. My mom said my granddad would bring him over to the house to play with the siblings as kids but never officially claimed him as his son(even though everyone knew even my grandma). When I finally met him- this guy is an exact replica of my grandad even has the exact pointy ears. My grandma stayed but the love between was never the same.
He wasn’t a father nor a husband a father is supposed to show love towards his family. I hate that this man is this movie is what a lot of people think a father should be. Showed not one bit of love to his son I was yelled at most of my life because “boys have t grow up tough!” it does not matter if they are a son or a daughter,LOVE THEM EQUALLY.I no longer talk to my parents.
That was some deep sh^t there, I felt that " That went all the way down to the core: Many of us have lived through these trials and errors with our mates and survived , These are heartfelt moments " it goes deep...?
Troy singin about being homeless🙄! I would have been petty and put him and his baby out of the house! But I guess being a womanless man is good enough. 🤷♀️
That's how we women do things now. We're no longer of the times where folks can appeal upon a woman's compassion for children. Even though the children are innocent, it matters not anymore. I think women got sick and tired of being played for a fool and were denied the same kind of Grace. So now it's "F them kids". 🙁
It’s both their house, not just Troy’s. She taking care of the house & raised the kids and the brother while he made money so if she chose to leave him, he’s in a worse position than her
Because women didn't have options back then. Troy thought he could just treat Rose any kinda way because she only had the money Troy gave her. He assumed she wasn't going anywhere.
This is beautiful message in this movie but I don't think people take the time to receive it. They look at the treatment that Troy gave Corey and his eldest son and they say he was man but what they neglect to acknowledge Troy was hurt from his father and that affected his relationship with his sons he said it in the movie that he feels his father kicking up in him hurt is passed down from father to son from Troy's father to Troy from Troy to his sons and if you watch the movie you could see the oldest son quoting the father because for the oldest son's first time in his life he stopped judging the father for his faults and he started understanding his father's story how would you be? What would you be ? If you are on your own since you were 14 years old had to struggle and scrape and steal just to keep yourself fed and healthy Troy ran away from his father and Troy figured that how he became a man he pushed his sons away from him because he wanted them to become men I personally believe it wasn't done out of hate I believe Troy wanted his sons to be men and to be a better man than him
The reason I didn’t like The Whale is because it seemed as though they did practically 0 work in translating the type of action that the theatre stage demands into the relative subtlety of film. Fences is infinitely better at that.
The comments are interesting and seem quite immature in thought pattern, you must understand the time & history to truly understand this movie which was originally a play by August Wilson
This is still going on today. But now, the tables have turned. The guys are taking care of someone else's kids. It is very rare to meet a woman without kids. Just like it is rare to find a man with kids. It takes a special person or a fool to do so.
For the women that interupts a marriage no good comes to you. I know of a female bragged about having a baby from a local married man with money and her child was the golden child. The wife was an amazing Christian woman that went to church with me The man died and the outside woman (young girl) had a major stroke. Had a friend who found out 30yrs layer her husband was messing with a friend. The woman eanted to confront the friend but she'd died 5yrs ago. If we respect ourselves and otjer women men will respect us. ❤

It’s sad y’all think Troy didn’t care for his sons. His first son didn’t want to work and take care of himself and got locked up just like Troy when he was younger and he tried to be harder on Cory to make sure he went down a different path. Troy had an abusive father so never knew “hugs and kisses dad”. Troy loved this little girl but he loved his wife too. The discipline Cory learned at home helped him succeed in the military.

I give your aunt all the respect in the world for that! It takes a strong loving and caring person to do that! My mommy died when I was 5yrs old, I also had 4 or siblings. My step-mom/ person wasn't kind and caring at all but the had a whole lot of SELFISHNESS TO SHOW! HER PARENTS WERE THE SAME WAY! I never wanted to marry anyone who had a child because I would never want to be like the Step-person was to us! I actually love children but I just kept myself away for that type of situation!
you, however, are maidenless,
And what no one will acknowledge, especially the women, is that child warmed rose.
Yeah we wimmin dumb and didn't get that part 🙄
She warned to the child. Not to Troy.
A wise man once said . . . "You reap what you sow!"
But dang Rose --- you dropped the hammer on ole Troy, baby girl . . . SHOW YOU RIGHT! ✊🏾
#STRONGBLACKWOMANOFGOD🙏🏾
Yeah it’s one thing to cheat but there’s another when you cheat in marriage and turn around and come home with a baby like wtf? Yeah hell no.
Rose was truly a woman of god. She was way too good for Troy and the world.
She deserves a special place in heaven.
My goal in life is to not be this type of man when I get older so many like this walking around with their noses up in the air like their shit don’t stink 😂
Super strong performances by both Denzel Washington and Viola Davis.
She could've left him. There was no excuse. She didn't need him.
All of it cuts DEEP!!
"This Child is all I got in this world." That line just pushes how delusional he is. Said that in front of his wife who he already has a child with.
The way that he looked at her with shock when she told him he was a womanless man LMAO
for a second I thought it said "worthless man", which also fits troy.
But you're a womanless man 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾! Now that's a clap back!
He wasn’t a father nor a husband a father is supposed to show love towards his family.
I hate that this man is this movie is what a lot of people think a father should be.
Showed not one bit of love to his son I was yelled at most of my life because “boys have t grow up tough!”
it does not matter if they are a son or a daughter,LOVE THEM EQUALLY.I no longer talk to my parents.
Dam! As a man that line was cold 🥶!🤔
A womanless man 👍🏾👍🏾
That was some deep sh^t there, I felt that " That went all the way down to the core: Many of us have lived through these trials and errors with our mates and survived , These are heartfelt moments " it goes deep...?
Troy singin about being homeless🙄! I would have been petty and put him and his baby out of the house! But I guess being a womanless man is good enough. 🤷♀️
Le bébé n'a pas à payer pour le péché du père. Le bébé n'est que le résultat, pas le fautif.
That's how we women do things now. We're no longer of the times where folks can appeal upon a woman's compassion for children. Even though the children are innocent, it matters not anymore. I think women got sick and tired of being played for a fool and were denied the same kind of Grace.
So now it's "F them kids". 🙁
That’s Troy’s house.
It’s both their house, not just Troy’s. She taking care of the house & raised the kids and the brother while he made money so if she chose to leave him, he’s in a worse position than her
I'd take the baby but he can go. He can visit her weekends and what not. The child is innocent
This is the only character that Denzel play that I absolutely hated
"You a womanless man." It's hard, but it's fair
WHY DO HE LOOKS SURPRISED 😮 AFTER SHE SAYS, HE IS A WOMAN LESS MAN😮
Because women didn't have options back then. Troy thought he could just treat Rose any kinda way because she only had the money Troy gave her. He assumed she wasn't going anywhere.
@@fudgematthew33 Physically she stayed but he lost her heart.
@@axx012 once a man loses a woman's heart, it's a wrap. They're basically roommates at that point.
If you are on your own since you were 14 years old had to struggle and scrape and steal just to keep yourself fed and healthy Troy ran away from his father and Troy figured that how he became a man he pushed his sons away from him because he wanted them to become men I personally believe it wasn't done out of hate I believe Troy wanted his sons to be men and to be a better man than him
Troy wanted that for his sons, but he couldn't teach them past his own pain, trauma and misery.
That was insane. She should have given the baby back. She would not have been cruel to the innocent because its not her responsibility.
Only a strong woman if God can do such a kind act.
Am i the only young adult that loves watching these clips after a few beers ??!? 😂🤣
Heavy
This was such a powerful movie
She should have said "You're on your own" and kicked him out to raise it by himself.
2:55 I look like this sometimes!
No u dont
@@stormycrank8063...lol
The reason I didn’t like The Whale is because it seemed as though they did practically 0 work in translating the type of action that the theatre stage demands into the relative subtlety of film.
Fences is infinitely better at that.
And there you have it ladies and gentlemen, Black Love ❤️🖤💚
Troy must be the great grandson of Mr.
Thank you Mr. Denzel ... this playwright helps
She is indeed a 🌹❤
The comments are interesting and seem quite immature in thought pattern, you must understand the time & history to truly understand this movie which was originally a play by August Wilson
Nope couldn’t be me
I said this replying to someone else’s comment. Watching this again Troy did not have one redeemable quality. He was the absolute worst.
Troy was a despicable character
OHH MYY WORD !!!! This is a powerful movie.
I give it a 20.
They tried their best to make Denzel look raggedy for the role, but he was still FOYNE.
She did the right thing , little girl gained a mother and two big brothers.
This is still going on today. But now, the tables have turned. The guys are taking care of someone else's kids. It is very rare to meet a woman without kids. Just like it is rare to find a man with kids. It takes a special person or a fool to do so.
Damn, she nailed it!
For the women that interupts a marriage no good comes to you. I know of a female bragged about having a baby from a local married man with money and her child was the golden child. The wife was an amazing Christian woman that went to church with me
The man died and the outside woman (young girl) had a major stroke. Had a friend who found out 30yrs layer her husband was messing with a friend. The woman eanted to confront the friend but she'd died 5yrs ago. If we respect ourselves and otjer women men will respect us. ❤
Denzel played this role so well it legitimately makes me hate Troy. As a 25 year old man that didn’t have a great childhood and abusive parents I can tell you this movie hits so hard to me
A MEANINGFUL STATEMENT, QUOTE AND HOWEVER ONE TAKE JUST KNOW MS. ROSE LIVE, LOVE AND SPOKE AS A SPIRITUAL WOMAN OF GOD (MR. TROY NOW A WOMANLESS MAN)
I hated how he did his son in this movie.
All that false pride and ego didnt nean shit in the end. A weak man exposed by his vices and self hatred the worst lind of "man" . Denzel made me hate him more in this than training day, i didn't think it was possible
Such a cute baby.
We need more women like Rose. We have to keep our family together
I need need need to see this movie!!!!!
She a black queen
Best part is when he would come home and she would take off and leave him with the baby lmao
She should have just divorced him.
They innocent.
So he wanted his Main Chic (wife) to take care of the baby he had with his side chic? Okay!
How many more years did he live after this?
6 or 7. He died of heart failure. I'm gonna have to rewatch it myself.
@@autumnsmom1117 Thanks
Movie free on TH-cam now. I just watched it! 😊
1:18 Ridiculous!!!!!! 😒😒😒😒🤦🏾♀️
Next to playing that dirty cop and the jerk Black soldier he was in Glory, this is the third character Denzel played that I hated.
She'll be joke of the neighborhood lol
I'm curious about how Troy treats his daughter
Put it this way: had he lived, he never would've asked her, "What law says I got to like you?"
What a Woman!
Yet mf in the comments be tryna give troy the "hear me out"
These comments are wild this a move
How he know that was his daughter because she slept eith s married man so imagine who else she slept with
Stuff happens .. if she can't get with the program kick her out and get a nanny/ roommate
