I honestly couldn’t pick between the two

i am lucky to have one of the last 15 built thema wagons with the 3 litre v6 busso..i also have an LE 20v coupe lovethem both,,great video guys..greetings from Sydney Australia
My first brand new car in Nov 1997 was a fiat Coupe 20v Turbo in Red. Absolutely loved it to bits! Had owned a few BMWs 323i, 325i and 525i prior to to the Fiat. Had to do a back to back test bw a used E36 M3 & a new Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo (same price) to decide which to buy The M3 picked up quicker from the bottom end and hit harder in the last 1,500 revs but the Fiat owned the mid range. The acceleration of the M3 was linear and not hugely exciting whilst the turbo rush of the coupe with the ‘push from the giant hand on the back’ sensation was much more enjoyable for me The deep off beat warble of the 5 cylinder coupe coupled with the turbo whistle was much more enjoyable to me than the nice 6 cylinder sound (had already owned 3 x 6 cylinder engined cars over 6 yrs so was not phased by it) The unique one off look of the coupe inside and outside vs the ubiquitous nature of the M3 was what finally did it for me! Absolutely loved it to death! Only downside was its consumption of front Pirelli P Zero tyres every 5,000 miles…😅😅 I briefly considered the GTV V6 but its lack of practicality at the back and boot wrote it off completely. It was also non turbo so could not offer me the turbo rush sensation of the Fiat Still miss it to date
Don't forget the rear boot & rear seat is compromised on the GTV due to it having way more sophisticated rear suspension, hence the sharper chassis ie multilink with passive rear steering. So GTV should get get an extra point for that. For me the GTV wins, mainly because ie own a 916 TS Spider + nothing sounds like a V6 Busso at full throttle.
I’ve had both at the same time until 4 months ago when I sold the gtv v6 as I wasn’t using it because I bought a Alfa gt 3.2 last year. My coupe 20vt has yellow konis, lowering springs, whiteline arb’s, hybrid turbo, sports cat, evo fmic, k&n and flea remap. But my youngest is 16 now so coupe is more usable for me. But do miss the gtv v6 and had only done 2000 miles in it over 5 years. We have 2 156 Gta’s, gt 3.2 and a 155 with a 3.0 in it The gtv still wins for me
Tiše ti závidím......a gratuluji. Ještě koně z Maranela , Trojzubce a máš komplet, celý ten nádherný Italský sen benzínové oparu pohromadě !! Ať se daří.
Brilliant content as usual, love the quick tease of the arm rest. Apart from the engine bay looking like a dismembered Spider-Man, I think I’d go for the coupe, I love the styling of it except the rear.
When they were new I found the Alfa better looking (just) but now the Fiat is miles better looking. It's quite unique too and the extra practicality is useful a family could drive to Italy in it.
I've owned both , it's the Alfa all the way for me. Busso , Pininfarina and Alfa Romeo all in one car. Where as the coupe , whilst having a great engine doesn't have the same classic lines. I think Chris Bangle ruined it with those slashes. P.S my GTV Busso had wizard manifolds and a Larini exhaust, it sounded incredible, in addition I had a Quaife, GTA clutch and lightened flywheel ( got fid of stock dmf ) and Koni and Eibach combo ( lowered by 20mm ) also aero and front splitter.
I had an S plate bright yellow 20v Turbo with black leather, I went to the dealers to buy a punto for the first ex missus. Amazing car, better than a mate of mines 3.0 GTV, only drawback for me was the turning circle.
Fiat Coupé 20vt plus in yellow with 18” wheels and lowering springs is just 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 Never really cared much for the gtv design. Chris Bangle did an excellent job on the Fiat coupe. Can argue with the sound of the V6 tho, pure music!
I know it is a rare beast, the face-lift 3.2 GTV and they can fetch up to 18k in Europe, especially for low mileage examples. These are much quicker than the 3L. Absolutely love my 3.2 it has serious mid range overtaking power, same as 156 GTA. Totally underrated cars, very few 3.2's come up for sale, but we'll worth having. Think any GTV in good condition are great modern classics. Was going to buy a coupe but fell in love with the GTV. However if I had the space would also buy a coupe and a 156 GTA in every colour!!!
Love both but I go for the coupe 20v turbo as, I own one in exactly same colour as this one here, portofino blue and love it. The engine bay in mine is not as bright but great to drive and sit in.
I had an SW20 rev 3 which was the best one. 174bhp. Revved to 7250. I fitted a janspeed 3.5' backbox exhaust and a sports cat and K+N cone filter. Result was an MR2 that felt faster in the higher revs but could no longer pass an MOT. It also spat fire because the ECU couldn't understand why the airflow had changed so much so it injected crazy amounts of fuel. I got 24mpg on a run on the motorway. It was 24mpg on a run to single numbers on a fun run on b-roads. I had a very understanding engineer who was able to finesse my pass once on the MOT but afterwards I had to remove the K+N. It was never as much fun after that. With the original airbox restored it had more low end torque but was much less fun when revving it out. More torque, Less High end power. It's a trade off and the MOT does not let you make it. Once a year at least. 🙂 MR2 was a great car. Luv and Peace.
I'd go for the Fiat if practicality was really important but the GTV really only had rear seats to get it onto fleet listings. I remember looking at the time and the company car list requirement was 4 seats so you couldn't get a 916 Spider but you could get a GTV; really it's a parcel shelf with seat belts as straps for parcels. Took my dad in the GTV rear seats and after getting out he said he felt like he'd just been born. I now have a Spider to tinker with; luckily my wife doesn't know there's a practical italian coupe I could have had instead.
Coupe for me, though its probably a bit biased after owning two. They still made a brilliant noise with a decent exhaust/ filter and blowoff valve. Least it could be heard coming around the country roads. That GTV does sound good though.
Great review, guys: I bought the Busso - but then immediately wished I'd bought the Coupe I'd seen a day earlier - but then I know that if I had I would've always regretted not having bought that Busso engine and noise. You can't win with these two.
Just sold the Busso 156 GTA. I’d buy the Fiat. Shockingly. Used. I had the Marea 155 2.0 20v. Loved loved it. The 5Cyl Fiat lump is easily as good as the Busso. I know it isn’t discussed but it is to me.

Interesting video; thanks for sharing. Had both the Coupe and the GTV. Both excellent, underrated cars with their own foibles. Both need looking after but I’d agree the Fiat is the more usable and has more modification options. Is it the better car? No. The GTV, although smaller and really a true two-seater steers sharper and it’s the car I’d want the keys to more often. It’s a better suspended car at the rear, has the edge in looks and no questioning the badge supremacy. And if you’re lucky enough to have the Busso V6, that does trump the sound of Fiat’s inline 5, imho.
I was looking for a coupe for months, eventually had to travel to see some cars, checked a Coupe and the next day a GT Busso. I choose the GTV but only because I'm biased and I have it in the garage, even if not with the 3.0 v6 24 but with the 2.0 v6 tb 12v with free exhaust and pop off with external vent ❤️
I have the v6 turbo too. if well maintained and overboost works correctly in real life it's faster than the 3.0 v6. the 3.2 v6 is on an other planet, of course.
Exhausts on a Busso - missing the point chaps. Induction, induction induction! Alfa interior is OK in black but gorgeous in cream or red. Fiat Coupe interior is inspired. NB I've had two GTV V6s and a few other cars with c200 bhp. If the Alfa is only 220 horse power then Alfa horses are bigger horses than most.
As a weekend car - Alfa GTV They are both good looking cars but there is something more distinct about the Alfa. Both look sporty but the Alfa has an extra level of elegance to it for such a low cost car. It could equally be driven by someone young or old, without looking out of place.
I would prefer the coupé, because the delirious noise isn't something you'd enjoy long! The Coupé is more racing and performance style, it's less bling bling, it's also a small Ferrari feeling! Coupé is also enjoyable with kids on the back seats, you know life is not only for matcho's Ronny 's😄😝
I love both but the GTV wins for me. I’m biased as I’ve owned two and I know it has so many cons but I look past them as with this sort of the car the main thing for me is how they look being one of the biggest factors.
Brilliant upload, I just love how much Tony loves his car. I'd love the 5 cylinder coupe experience, I have a V6 166 but it's auto which is a minus, it is a mint JDM import though.
GTV of course but with the 3.2 V6. I have one of these with a few mods, its brilliant to drive and still very beautiful design. Interiors are far superior than the Fiat and the handling too....and with the 3.2 you have an engine that actually performs very well.
I have an Alfa Romeo GT 2.0 JTS, shocking terrible engine. Would a Fiat 16v Turbo or 20v Turbo be a straight forward swap? Or can the JTS be improved to make say 240 bhp without fearing its going to break?
f**k the coupe....alfa romeo gtv 16v integrale wouls be amazing ...havent driven a v6...had 2 previous t-sparks and feel at one with it...cornering is epic for a 90`s motor....with the fiat coupe....i sort of want to like it and if the gtv was never a thing maybe but then ive had 3 alfa 33`s and they are amazing fun especially in the wet....great video lads....would love to see a drag race between the 2 in standard form.
Back in Portugal, we had a 2.0 V6 turbo (205cv). I'm biased but I think that's the best engine for the gtv because it's not as heavy. In 2012 I bought one, navy blue, 16inch wheels (the best for the gtv in my biased opinion), 20k kilometers on the clock (the car was from 99). One year later, it got stolen 😢 I hope the thief had a good time ... anyway, this didn't really make a contribution to the debate 😅
Both cars are great, both cars have amazing front ends but I'm not the biggest fan of the rear of Fiat, so in terms of looks Alfa wins for me, but the driving is most important part and I haven't driven any of them (yet) so I cannot decide hahah
Never owned either and they are both amazing cars. I'd probably go for the Alfa. NA v6 is gonna sound great and the GTV looks amazing. So does the Coupe but a turbo 5 is a quirky and new engine and that means unreliable. The fiat looks great and was designed by the guy heading up BMW design when they made my Z4. I'm a big Bangle fan. My worry is rust and reliability. The Alfa edges it. Luv and Peace.
I had the Fiat coupe best car ever heard it does need an exhaust and an air filter and the sound is on real hard to choose from the alpha though, because with an exhaust with that it sounds unreal, but I’ve never driven one
You are mean to Tony... he loves his car more than he loves his daughters 😂

2 great italian coupes but for the visuals and soundtrack alone it's the Alfa for me.
I love the Vaggazle!!!!
I have an Alfa Romeo GT 2.0 JTS, shocking terrible engine. Would a Fiat 16v Turbo or 20v Turbo be a straight forward swap? Or can the JTS be improved to make say 240 bhp without fearing its going to break?
I hate them engines.
@@autosportivobedford Quick question, does your workshop take on engine swaps?
Would love a 20v turbo but several ex owners have told me tales of woe of unreliability.
Not true. We have a daily with 222,000k on clock
I like the coupe but its the alfa for me
Alfa GT Cup My Personal Fav
f**k the coupe....alfa romeo gtv 16v integrale wouls be amazing ...havent driven a v6...had 2 previous t-sparks and feel at one with it...cornering is epic for a 90`s motor....with the fiat coupe....i sort of want to like it and if the gtv was never a thing maybe but then ive had 3 alfa 33`s and they are amazing fun especially in the wet....great video lads....would love to see a drag race between the 2 in standard form.
😅😅👍🏻 thanks for sharing
Both cars are great, both cars have amazing front ends but I'm not the biggest fan of the rear of Fiat, so in terms of looks Alfa wins for me, but the driving is most important part and I haven't driven any of them (yet) so I cannot decide hahah
😂 ha ha
GTV, always!
Two different cars, really, I’d go for the Coupé because I like modding
Never owned either and they are both amazing cars. I'd probably go for the Alfa. NA v6 is gonna sound great and the GTV looks amazing.
So does the Coupe but a turbo 5 is a quirky and new engine and that means unreliable.
The fiat looks great and was designed by the guy heading up BMW design when they made my Z4. I'm a big Bangle fan.
My worry is rust and reliability.
The Alfa edges it.
Luv and Peace.
I thought it was great 👍
ANT!!!!
(Alfa GTV) 😍
Fiat Coupe
I have a lovely 1997 20V Turbo
Busso is nice. But 5 cylinder and stu tu tu is nicer
"Last time I bring my car here too" so funny hahaha you guys are wrong. 😂
Gtv all the way!👍🏼👍🏼
Gtv for me ❤but not a fan of the wizard too
Raspy for me
Acura Integra vs Mercury Couger... cool cool cool
Coup please.
The Alfa, the Fiat looks like a Ford Puma based kit car in comparison wicked engine tho but the Alfa is more premium.
Alfa one love!
I had the Fiat coupe best car ever heard it does need an exhaust and an air filter and the sound is on real hard to choose from the alpha though, because with an exhaust with that it sounds unreal, but I’ve never driven one
The fiat is a nice looking car but I think you have to give it to the gtv it's a stunner.
Alfa gtv all the time the coupe is one awesome car 🚗 but there's nothing on earth like an alfa romeo
both...both? Both is good.
