it is a specialty tool most large wrenches that would fit the nut wont fit between the fan and pulley bolts.
Seems like he made one a while back, with all the moving stuff around probably either forgot or just not sure where it is. Every time I go through my shop I find the coolest shit I forgot I owned.

When I did mine I just made a wrench out 1/4 flat bar. I think it's like 32mm or something I can't remember. I just cut it out of 4in wide flat bar with a grinder or in pugs case with his plasma cutter. Nut came right off. Hardest part was remembering what way the threads are. I spent 5 mins torquing on the wrench the wrong way.
Wish you played the visit with the older fella from across the way. He is always interesting and just looking for someone to visit with.

On your 83 if you don’t ever plan to use air conditioning in it you can hook up your air conditioning pump to a tank with a pressure cut off switch hooked up to the ac clutch and run it as an air compressor. My dad has an 89 cummins set up that way and it works awesome instead of trying to hook up the other compressor to it. His will put out over 100psi and run an impact just have to wait for it to build pressure again sometimes if your running an impact with it.

You can use the clutch fan out of a V10 Dodge along with the Ford fan for a fully mechanical setup, much better than the factory one on the 03-07 Cummins
Clutch fans are good for higher rpm, electric fans are good for low rpms and idle-ing... love my electronic fans, I also installed an aftermarket transmission cooler .. never got over 165 again, coolant runs perfectly since

I bought a EZ tailgate drop down . Its a piston that let's the tailgate drop down slowly, Amazon sells them and eBay, like $20 and work very well, had mine for 4+ years bought problems, its just a hydronic piston that sloes down the tailgate drop... couldn't live without it now

Pug with all the towing you do with the 6speed, I'd suggest a coolant bypass kit from fleece performance, it'll bring your coolant temp down, and it gives extra coolant to cyl 6
