- i bought this van in the dark under a pile of junk so i didnt even know if it had an engine but i was told it hasnt moned in over 10 years so lets see if it will start! i think its a 305 but either way its dinked big time look ya can tell, im looking for a small diesel engine i have one in mind but i think i can find something better! thanks for watching!
Take good care of that van, Pug. It clearly knows how awesome it's going to become!
If you can, get that Pontiac for a good price. Give it a powerwash and a vacuum and go cruisin!
That van is so badass oldschool..
Sidepipes, and a foxtail on the antenna is a must.
I had a 79 and it had a 350 it lasted 15 years of heavy hauling. It got an amazing 15 miles to the gallon. Brings back memories to see one.
Take good care of your new van, Pug. It clearly knows how awesome it's going to become. Do it up right, slap a diesel into it, and hit the road.
Congratulations
love my Chevy van 1995, old body style,, brownie,,,
@speedy75602 ya that makes sense now we rested the siren and it works so that makes fer some fun times i would think lol
@wallbanger1968 'Pologise, forgot about that little fact. Thanks for the edumacation.
Seriously, though, I have gotten so used to the long VIN codes that I had completely forgot about the way the older ones were. Thanks for helping me clean some cobwebs out. Cheers!
B.A. Barcus would be proud of that.
Sweet find! I just scored a '93 F150, without so much as even a door ding! Just has 2 cracked heads and a couple popped freeze plugs.......
I like the manual 4x4 shifter also Pug .
Pug - love the Chevy van - she's a runner! I don't know how she'll be on a romp with that low clearance and wide tires in back. The blue 1973 GM sedan's a collector's item for sure. That pristine interior's worth it's weight in gold. Hopefully that'll run too. The 'Tang's a pile of rust it looks like. Only worth parting out for seats and door panels perhaps. Nice grab Pug, looks like it's going to be fun spring in Rutney's.
Can't wait to see the finished project. Don't forget to change the bow tie for the GMC badge, it'll be right on the money!
Nothing stops the A-Team van!
I would build a 400small block, with a TH400 tranny built with a shift kit, and a hot converter between them, add some long tube headers and straight piped dual pipes, that would be one sick van! The 305, 350 and 400's are all the same physical size on the outside so it would drop right into the hole!
That van would be the sickest A-team van man, Good Luck on the restoration, and I hope you make a ton of vids on it
This is why I like old trucks, vans and SUVs
Some of the S10`s did come with a diesel. It was a 2.2 isuzu diesel that they used in the pups. Its a tough little motor and they run forever. If you can get your hands on it then go for it.Cant go wrong with the old 2.2 diesel.
That thing is sweet. Friggen Shaggin' Wagon!
THANKS GUYS KEEP UP THE GOOD JOB I LOVE OLD SCHOOL VAN I GOT 95 CHEVY G 30
They just don't make em like this anymore what a badass van.
i had a 1983 chevy conversion van with the power shut off on the fender also
That Van Is AAAWWWSOOOME!!!!!
Friggin A Pug! A-Team er out Big Time! YEAH!! CHUUCH IT!! (???)
Lots of good stuff in there.... Love the old Pontiac!
those vans are so awesome looking.
I'am Your Newest Subscriber Great Videos
Thats a real rolling bordello van Pug!!!
@jaysfan19, vehicles over 20 years old does not need an Etest, mine is now 20 years old and passed it's last emission test, no more testing
Beautiful Pontiac!
Nice van Pug! Can't wIt to see what you do with it.
WOW what a find. amazing how some people still have them cars lol
My dad had a 77 when I was growing up, I love these old vans!
Van looks awsome Pug!, I say you should put some dual glasspacks on it :P
hey it's got a funny horn in it hope ya get this sweet ride running nice.
a-team van for me:)) nice van
Hey buddy, I'd check the fuel system in that after you clear all the nasty fuel out of there. The gas tank might be rusty, and is cloggin' up your fuel filter.
Also, the S10 diesel motor is great, but not even enough power to push that van around. Look for a badass 400 or 454 or 455 for it, and it'll friggin haul ass. That most likely has a 350 in it, which is alright, but I'd get a big choochin' big block!
Definitely a keeper!
So this is the van that pug found again...cool
That Isuzu Diesel in the S-10 is a real dog even for that small truck. so you can imagine how much slower it will be if installed in your van.
Good-ol "Chester Molester's" dream car right there for ya!
Love that van
cheapest option is a rebuild, you can get a kit for just a few hundred bucks and you know it'll have all new seals and gaskets, may not even need new pistons just hone the block and re-ring, you could potentially drop in a 350 for the same or cheaper but you can't be sure the condition because i haven't found a brand new or rebuilt small block for around $300, if i did i'd be replacing the 305 in my truck, maybe i haven't looked hard enough, so safest bet is a rebuild
awesome...congrats
@otakop67 You're right about the letters corresponding to the engine sizes, but pre-1981 GMC and Chevy trucks and vans had a shorter VIN number. The first letter was the manufacturer, the second the model designation, the third the original engine.
C= Chevrolet
G= GMC
G= van
D= 250 straight 6
T= 292 straight 6 (usually not found in a 1/2 ton van)
U= 305 V8
L= 350 V8
love the van bro !!
those are old bias ply 50 series tires. 295-50/15 would work good. that key on the fender is an old style alarm. had one on my gramps old Buick Regal.
the key switch on the front fender is a car alarm note the siren next to the rad
@vettet1 no, put it in the oil to loosen the sticky nastiness in there. only smokes if u put it in the intake.
she'll make on pretty friggen awsome a-team van
Yes what a van you can always depend on Chevy to start i am a Chevy man.
Pug that van is going to be "SICK" if you do a nice job chooch IT :))
I like the old GPS on the dash.
This van is awsome. It definately needs a v8 and some decent restoration. Who knows, maybe you could restore it, have some fun with it and then sell it with profit?
Yep my 84 S10 had the option of a 2.2L Diesel Naturally Aspirated
A few of the first generation S-10s came with diesels it was rare
@viper948 it was the Isuzu 2.2 L diesel engine, I think you will need somthing with alot more power to move that van
I don't think swapping in a diesel is the way to go (unless you can find a 5.7 or a big Cummins). You can build up a SBC 350, LT1, or Vortec pretty cheap, and parts for those are everywhere.
PLEASE make this van an awesome A-Team street cruiser. It's clearly excited about becoming part of the Pug Army fleet; just look how eager it was to get to the shop!
damn great find. ive always wanted one of those vans.
Bad ass van
Andy is a GOOF!!!
Hey, good time, liked vid, choochin, ,,, from conn.,, u.s.
I'd KILL for that van !
HELL YEAH!!! You are gonna have to poligize for havin' too much fun.
i love it when a plan comes together!
awesome van
that crown vic looks exactly like mine, didnt even know they had propane for the box vics, pug u should throw him a offer for it!
Thats a great van. Yeah the engine is most likely a 5.7 Liter 350 V8.
Fukn Nice Van Pug, That will make a nice A-Team Van.
@AntlerChoocher that makes sence thanks for clearing that up for me i didnt think he would do somthing like that for nothing thanks man!
The diesel engines in the s10 was a Isuzu diesel 2.2 liter 4 cyl engine with about 58 horsepower and had 98 lb-ft
frigggin rights man
wow I think thats my brothers old van lol same year same interior but his was a darker brown ice box not a fridge even same cheesy sky light domes good times that was
@uhrsker Im with you on this one. That Van would go for a mint around here. Way to nice to be messed up.
OMG, that van is FCKN SICK! It look likes my dream van that i hope to buy in a year or two :P
A-Team Van - $500
Friggen Rights Man - $1000
Choochin - Priceless.
That friggin van will give you some friggin rights, but gotta watch for the friggin choochin.
My old man had a 79 GMC 1 tonne van with a 350 it lasted 15 years of heavy use, It gurgled down the fuels big time.
a Chevy never dies !
The Ateam vans was also a GMC 25 (3/4 ton) that Chevy is a shorty half we call them the short style 1/2 ton van. Dont see many of the shorty halfs around here. I never herd of the s10 or s15 coming with a diesel if so I would have one. I would love to have a diesel in my Brevada. It should have a 350ci. I never see those vans with anything but the 350.
Its got a ring or two stuck....just puter in low gear and run it up pretty fast then let off and let it wind back down, do that a few times.....the pressure it builds when youre letting it wind back down will get in behind the rings and reseat them.....Look up hard break in for new rings,same principle.
hahaha friggen sweet! Awesome Van!
Check the hoses for the vacuum advance. Old cars ya know the rubber gets weather cracks so that could explain why its stalling out on ya now.
You can fit a 4BT Cummins in an S10 which is a 4 cylinder diesel which I've seen done.
Blue block is 305 if it is factory engine, most 350's were orange. To put a diesel in it would make a Daidsfarm team van not an A team van. Get an LS1 or LT1 multiport, and can run that trans, 300 + horse and about 20mpg. I have a 1993 LT1 in an 84 cutlass and wasn't hard to wire it up. It is on youtube on my channel.
Just do some tune up stuff on the eng. It might just need clean fuel and new plugs.
@BuckyBeWild 77,xxx if i remember right
@matthebest018 i highly doubt this van will be turning past 4000rpm much, it's a heavy thing with an auto so the cam will be fine, makes lots of low end power, also as long as it has a tune up with a free flowing intake and exhaust that'll put less stress on the engine, as long as the engine is mostly stock in good running condition the main bearing will hold up just fine, i had a Q-Jet 305 in my 86 Silverado and it ran for 280,000 miles with no problems hauling logs
I believe that the key hole in the driver's side fender was for an alarm system
the good ol Chevy belt squeak
izuzu diesel is what come in the s10. 2.2 liter. theres a red s10 on the tube here that actually has one of them diesel motors in it
we have a 1981 chevy van and we had for 12 years and still running. lots of new stuff in it. its carborated (cant spell) so it will try to turn over until it does for a little. but one problem, NO REVERSE but getting new transmission. still I love our 1981 chevy van drive great but kind of loud.
Logie, you have to load the ball joints to check them on a independent front end Chevy (BAM major GOOF!!! for BBS). Looked like a turbo 350 in there and an SBC. The screwdriver antler wire thingamajig? Three on the tree? WTF. Hey if she works "wayshegoes".....
RED GREEN up at POSSUM lodge would love to get that chevy van
Pug, I asked my bud at the parts store about which vin for which engine on this. He said that there are 3 possibilities (8th digit being the engine size):
D= 4.1L Straight 6 Carb Gas
U= 5.0L V8 Carb Gas
L= 5.7L V8 Carb Gas
Hope this helps ya buddy
i have never heard friggin right in one vid so many times in my life
knockin and bangin sort engine out
You should try to make a tune-up on it, might be the only thing it need .
Hey you gotta plate that van, put historic plates on it $18 plate sticker yeah!
@ PUG - I googled the diesel engine for the S-10, It says the 1.9 , 2.0, and 2.2 were discontinued in "85......
ya need to drop a friggin 383 stroker in that thing. that'd be pretty sweet.
