Hollowed out Muffler + Hollowed out Cat = you still pass emissions and you don't get a huge fine if you get pulled over and road inspected.

they do similar in the uk, hold it at 3000rpm for 3-5 seconds etc, reading is best of three or average of three i think
If you're worried your truck is gonna blow up if you rev it a couple times... its time to get a new truck. That slip on cat setup is awesome.
There was a good reason to mat the throttle multiple times. Cuz the test equipment tells you to do it. It's not up to the dude running the test. If you don't do what the machine tells you it will sit there all day or until it times out. The engine only revs to governor speed anyway. I do emission testing and i aint blown one up yet.
Shit like this makes me glad that I live in northern Ontario, no need to worry about getting my car E-tested.
This test on diesels was banned in the U.K. As engines were blowing. They just reverted back to a standard test.
Man! I feel your pain buddy. They do this same shit to us over here in Ohio. Whats even more irritating is that they only check certain countys. I live a half a mile from the county without the checks. Go figure
Dont be so afriad diesel engine are rated at full power/rpm snap testing is not going to hurt it well if its set to factory ecm settings out here in california I work on sckool buses and we get to do our own snsp testing we have some 05 E450 ford chsssis buses with 6.0 and we just stick em to the floor and never had any problems
Btw the do some " clean out snaps" then they do three tedt snaps and what there testing for is an average on three snaps so there cant be a low reading and then two high readings
1.8% reading and your allowed 30%

It's not worth flooring the shit out of a 6.0 powerstroke for an emissions reading of 1.8 out of 30. That's complete bullshit.
I live in Pa and our emissions consist of checking to see if you have a cat and checking to see if your gas cap seals.....and that's it!

my 84 F250 says Non-catalyst on the emissions plate ,, due to it's 11,000# GVW
and it's engine which is a 460 big block ,,funny thing is it still has a smog pump
+Jerry Baker I would love to see them test the engine in my truck ,, about the 2nd or 3rd time the revved it up they would be looking for hearing protection or risk hearing damage from the 125+ decibels you get from the 4 inch side pipes
Pug they did that to my truck to and my was .5 on every run that they did and they put it to the rug like 30 odd times it's ridiculous how many times they have to floor it
+1puglife Hey Pug I'm a mechanic, and at my shop my buddy has a brown big cigrit, when he had to go to testing and put a cat back on, he went tithe scrap yard unit and found another cat not even meant for his truck, cut the fucker in half and emptied it out so it was just the shell, and welded the shell arpund his exhaust pipe so visually looked like he had a cat installed.
Worked fucking perfect and passed with flying cigrits! I will get evidencary photographies for you if you want to see!
When i was a tester here in the Scotland the emissions was tested using a computer and the program would only let you rev the satchel of the vehicle a maximum of 3 times
I'm the same way as far as ppl working on my vehicle. even if i'm not allowed in your shop. i want to be able to see them working on it from the outside.

Diesels are meant to run at wot. they actually run cleaner and longer if they get to run on the limiter now and again.
you are lucky because in Finland you have to test your car every year. diesel and full throttle sounds like torture.

Proper snap test is push petal to floor and let up immediately not hold it on the rug for that long I would have yelled at the guy. From your view he would have heard you.
Besides from the insurance aspect. customers can distract you from what youre doing or get in the way. no for a similar test we would run i up like he did too. Its the only way to perform the test properly. Thats why he did it about 8 times to get an average even though it come up as fine on the first rev. Thats why there were 8 columns on the sheet. if it was up at the max allowable it wouldn't pass. That motors in good condition. Reving it like that won't hurt it. It always sounds worse than it is.
in uk its same kind of test, but they dont do 8, thats just excessive testing imho

It's called a stab test. Had my '06 done last year. They take the truck to red line to test it's shut off then bring the truck up to it again 4 or 5 times and take the average. If your truck can't take WOT that many times it's really a POS. Drive it like you stole it every once in a while doing WOT runs and you'll not worry about it. Ford did mine right inside the shop, you should have heard her! Put a smile on my face.
Pugs, Even on the gas rides the "snap throttle" is there in the stock PCM request. Ever hear a 46 or a 54 do that. it scares the poo out of a customer

Pug, hook up with Carphonix and install a rev limiter on your truck. Set it to like 500 RPM below the max, and let em rev the sack off of it all they want. Does that sound like a good idea?
I got a 08 f-250 with a 4 inch strait stovepipe on it, I live in Northern Ontario and i don't got to to get e-tested, not sure if its the load rating between the f-250 and f-350 that makes the difference between e-testing and non e-tested vehicles, or its just because i live in the middle of butt fuck nowheres and people dont care if your truck chooches a bit more then it should, but thats just dickered how they make u do shit like that to big dirty, i hope he holds true after that dickeredness

hopefully in the future Canada will catch up to Merica. we only hook up to the OBDII system do a quick scan, no check engine light or recent resets and yer done.
older than (1996) OBDII (ALDL) they do the sniff test on rollers so there is no idle rpm revs....sheesh! bmp again!
Those heater coils always go on the fords.
here in Pennsylvania they dont run emission tests on diesels.
here in NY diesels under 10,000 GVW only need a safety no matter how old. BMP
Any diesel in NY doesn't need testing just safety

Here In my state (NC ) USA , They hook your car up to a computer and it prompts the tech what to do such as rev the motor. That may have been what was going on. Not sure how thing work with the E test up your way.

kinda ridicusly when u test emmissions in C.A,i understand u are mad at the gouverment! here in sweden the test cars at Idle, And they test it for a short driving test only.
I think it depends on the tester too I live 1 hr from toronto my friends 05 f 250 6.0 passed this years etest with no muffler no problem ,and I have no cat on my 12 valve . The lady who dose the test dosent check for a muffler or cat
That's how they test emissions on diesels in the UK too. I'm not a fan of the technique!

But I'll tell ya, I've worked in shops for the past 12+ years and the only ones that were up to no good were the ones that would actually let the customers in the bay, lol. He's right about the whole insurance though, if the truck blew up and you caught shrapnel, their insurance would have a fucking field day!

We had a mobile e test done a couple years ago they did nothing like that they just let the engine idle

Good for Big Dirty getting hims street creds back. Nasty test. Probably trying to get you to dump old Big Dirty for a newer diesel to prop up the economy. We had something like that a while ago here called "Cash for Clunkers". Lots of good American steel went into the scrap heap instead of the parts market or good, reliable used cars and the only ones that made out were the Japanese car makers. A total waste. We get snap tests. Here they only rev the crap out of it when they put it in the garage and hook all the equipment stuff up to it. Those guys are just abusing your truck.
