I’d never have even realised if you hadn’t pointed it out! Imagine the onus on the poor camera guy who tripped if he’d completely lost it after that! I love seeing the (very few) imperfections as it makes it more relatable & more endearing, although I’d never have realised unless they were pointed out. I did semi-notice the camera wiggle but after Blair Witch anything goes! ❤
One of my favorite episodes of all! Amazing continuous take, Mary's "I don't think he's waiting for us to be holy, I think we can't be holy without him, the contentious scene around the fire, and the ending with Mother Mary tending to her exhausted son after earlier sharing that she felt like he didn't need her anymore. Just typing this comment makes me tear up. The bar was set very high with this episode ♥️
Kudos to the cameraman! I learned about this scene somewhere on the Chosen app & how everyone rallied around the cameraman afterwards - he was sweating profusely & so tired from holding the camera. I hope he got some sort of bonus in his paycheck or something...lol.
As someone with hands-on-experience producing film projects in college, yes! That one-take "was" extremely impressive. Not only was I impressed with the actors all doing their parts so well one after the other, I was impressed with the camera man and whoever was holding the boom microphone not taking a rest while doing so well. "And" they managed to do that amazing take during the "golden hour" of natural light! Fantastic!
I remember watching this episode when it came out and being really impressed by the direction and the delivery of these actors, the long conversations, and how it gets more and more intimate. I have seen and I still see it a couple of more times every now and then.
I remember the first time I watched this scene. Anout halfway through I realized that there hadnt been any cuts! Very well done and a great behind the scenes story.
Watching Brandon breaking down these scenes is such a great help. And I've been watching the seasons since 2021. Just watching season 4 for about the fith time now. 😊
Fantastic breakdown of this "oner" scene! I remember Dallas talking about how stressful it was and the cameraman just collapsing with exhaustion afterwards. Thank you so much for walking us through this. I do believe this is the longest "oner" of all time in TV history? I could be wrong about that, but I seem to remember someone saying that. Dallas maybe?
I really liked the naturalism of the scene. There was one part that gave me an och moment, when mother Mary's comment when she arrived when the few were standing at the fire talking, and she asked how long Jesus had been working and the group said all day. Her comment was that Jesus gets that from his father, "both of them".
I will never see the yellow tent in the background the same again 😆 picturing the whole crew huddling back in there… haha overall love this scene, well done all around!
The first time i tried to watch the chosen I was in a bad place physically and a bit of depression. The first sceen in the first episope of series one was really dark i could see very little also spiritually dark. I turned it off and thought , its not for me. But a few months later thd Holy Spirit told me to try to watch it again. I obeyed ow Im hooked. Thank you for all thd hard work you all put in to make it so paletable for everyone
I remember watching this initially. I loved it. It gives the viewer the depth of character for each character and the relationships they have but the appearsnce of normal conversation. All of them such a great job. Impressive. Jesus returns after it becomes dark exhausted and its heartbreaking. Thanks Brandon.
Brandon, I love seeing your videos and I agree, this scene, the whole episode, was very well done. I was amazed when I saw this scene. It was phenomenal. To think that this wasn’t done by a seasoned professional director but try telling someone else that who had no idea of who the director was or that the director didn’t have many years of experience in cinematography. I’m a dyed in the wool fan of The Chosen and will be for some more years to come. I can’t wait until this next LIVESTREAM when Dallas shares when Season 5 will be released. I’ll also be a dyed in the wool fan of The Chosen Slueth. You keep things interesting and fresh. Thanks, Brandon@TheChosenSlueth!
I also remember being totally impressed and shocked when I first saw this scene. I have a background in film, and so when the scene first started playing, and I noticed a couple of minutes had gone by without cutting, I grabbed my husband’s arm and said “oh my gosh, they’re doing a oner!” And of course he was like “what’s a oner?” 😆 So I timed it throughout the rest of the scene, and when it got to almost 14 minutes, I was like “wow! That was amazing!” So, so well done. Still one of my favorite episodes of the show.
As a filmmaker, I enjoyed the whole explanation of how the shot was done and the only thing I may have done different would have been to try to get a bit more lighting on the actor's faces. I know it's a real challenge to get the light to make the faces still appear to be in a natural way so I may be just wrong.
The scene didn’t need to be shot as one. Just Dallas showing off. If the actors missed a line, it could be cut in editing. Good use of walk and talk can be seen in THE WEST WING where it was part of the drama. This scene doesn’t need the additional drama
I don’t understand WHY ? It had to be just one scene. The walk and talk could have ended when the extra bumps into Paras. Then another, walk and talk around the fire. That would have had same impact .
I didn’t know they knew about epilepsy then - I thought they just thought they were demon-possessed. )I’m not being critical, I have just been wondering).
The episodes where they vary the most from scripture, are both the most powerful ad the most infuriating to me. As an autistic who is Catholic because the ONLY place in the world I can trust neurotypicals is the Mass, changes and diversions need to be explained better.
I didn't know it'd be a oner when I wrote it. We had to arrange the actors the day before as we figured out what would work with the camera.
Such an amazing scene. I've watched it dozens of times. Dan is the man!
Was Awesome how it Flowed, and they pulled it off!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😊🕊️

Being a long continuous scene, I noticed that sometimes I hear their dropping the accents.

These actors are so thoroughly professional that they make it look easy. I'm in awe of them, and of the talented crew that made it all possible.

Every cast & crew member involved should be proud to have this achievement on their resume! ❤
Yep shows hollywood up proper dont they.
This scene was a supernatural work of God. Only He could have made flawed humans flawless for a time. Masterful!!!!😮
this scene was a brilliant work of art

This scene was really good. I like the sunset in the background too, & the verse that Phillip gives to Matthew
Having Matthew trekking the wilderness in a long, white silk coat was genius 😂❤️
I didn’t either! This is a great “deep dive,” Brandon.”
I didn’t realize it was silk. No wonder Simon was critical of Matthew’s choice of clothing for a long road trek.
Happy Thursday Brandon and Vanessa
Such an impressive shot!

I loved this scene. They did a great job. Thank you for sharing this information. Keep up the great work that you do.

Une scène magistrale ! Merci pour le décryptage 🙏
Thanks Brandon for all you do for these breakdowns
Watching again because your breakdowns are so good and so is The Chosen
Loved watching this scene again. Brilliant work and acting.
I really appreciate the effort put into this episode 👏
Ramah’s statement that the Messiah would “rescue” her, hits a lot stronger now!
I also remember being totally impressed and shocked when I first saw this scene. What may look like a glow in the tent seems to be the back of the tent flapping open bringing in what little light is out there.
Hello Brandon . Amazing The Chosen
this is one of my favorite episodes. a lot of feelings were exposed
One of my fav episodes!
Amazing acting
Are you watching from the chosen website? It doesn't seem like it from the layout
Great breakdown!
Oh wow! I did not even realize that the "extra" was looking at the camera! 🙂
lol just some funny moments for sure
Hey hey Brandon 👋. This is such a wonderful Jesus show
Yoshi loved him and Phillp

I miss this Phillip.
I saw the glow during the episode and wondered if it was Dallas watching a monitor
The scene didn’t need to be shot as one. Just Dallas showing off. If the actors missed a line, it could be cut in editing. Good use of walk and talk can be seen in THE WEST WING where it was part of the drama. This scene doesn’t need the additional drama
Love that scene
When Im watching the chosen (which often) I dont think about the logistics of it. I just get engrossed in message
it'd be cool if the walk to Golgotha is a shot this way
Miss Yoshi
Red Sea moment!
❤❤❤
I used to play backgammon
Hello Brandon ☺️☺️☺️☺️
Doesn't that story from Raima about her childhood daydream hit different now, though?
I thought the same :(
@@tiffcat1100 Glad I'm not alone.
I don’t understand WHY ? It had to be just one scene. The walk and talk could have ended when the extra bumps into Paras. Then another, walk and talk around the fire. That would have had same impact .
The memorization of lines here is no different than an actor on a live stage who memorized an entire play to perform in front of live audience
👍
The "poem" "there shall be no unrighteousness in them" is from Psalms of Solomon 17:32 (apocrypha)
✝️🛐💜
I didn’t know they knew about epilepsy then - I thought they just thought they were demon-possessed. )I’m not being critical, I have just been wondering).
Matthew 17:15 boy with seizures
Not in the way we understand it today no, but the general concept was there for sure
The episodes where they vary the most from scripture, are both the most powerful ad the most infuriating to me. As an autistic who is Catholic because the ONLY place in the world I can trust neurotypicals is the Mass, changes and diversions need to be explained better.
I love your positive words and scripture references but I don't appreciate the laughing at mistakes in the show. It's disrespectful.
Could anyone have wholeheartedly praised the ‘oner’ more than Brandon?! ❤
