    With the money to spend on this, I'd go with a Bowtie block for the horsepower along with diamond pistons aluminum manifold stage 2 mild cam upgrade then efi it.

    • @NRJracing
      @NRJracing  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      i used a bowtie block on a 400 that i built around the same time as this one, nothing bad to say about a bowtie but this block was outfitted with billet splayed caps and is much stronger than a typical 4 bolt bowtie, in fact if i built this engine with said bowtie im not sure how long it would hold together consistently spraying it with as much nitrous as this one is currently running. It would be fine naturally aspirated but with the kit i would not be confident in the caps on the bowtie

  • @jryer1

    Probably not a big deal, because this engine is for racing, but an aluminum heat shield around the starter will make it last longer and still keeps the weight down.

    I'm old school SBC to da bone.
    I hear everyone telling me a 5.3 LS will blow a sbc away.
    I'm not so sure about that shit!!

    • @JimBronson
      @JimBronson ปีที่แล้ว

      Out of the box stock vs stock the LS has much better head flow. But if you are upgrading anyway, you can buy SBC heads that will flow a lot. The other thing the LS has is the 6 bolt cross bolted mains, they hold up pretty well to 10 lbs of boost with no modifications.
      If you're building something up that's completely custom top to bottom, you can make just as much power with an SBC as you can with an LS, inch for inch.

    Now do a 396 stroker

    • @NRJracing
      @NRJracing  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve done a couple 396 smallblocks’ used older high nickel 010 blocks had billet caps put on not splayed just billet with studs, first was 4.030x3.875 and the last was at 4.060x3.875 which was actually 401ci, lot of weird looks when you tell someone its a 350 block but you turned it into a 401 😅 they make really good torque, an absolute blast on the street but never felt comfortable turning them up past 6,500 but that torque was always falling off by the time you get around 4,200 or so, typically shifting right at or just before 6k .. pump gas, alum. Heads, hydraulic roller, airgap intake on both,
      Haven’t done one solid roller w/ single plane but as I was just mentioning, don’t really want to turn one that hard anyways so I probably will never do it.

      I use this brawler to run a lot of engines in, you’ll see it in a lot of my videos, it’s just a really reliable carburetor to bolt on and know it will fire and then jet and mix from there just to get some run time on these motors before they go out.

      It’s got an automatic behind it now 2spd Glide- converter flashes like 4,900- shifts at 7,600 .
      But yea, the day it was on the stand it had a 168t flywheel on it and it turned up like 7,800ish couple times no sweat lol

    I have a sgi block gm goodwrench 350 MD i purchased out of a wrecked c60 big truck wirh 2800 original miles. Ive wondered what the "MD" or sgi block has to offer but haven't tore into it yet. 4 bolt? Nitrite crank?

    • @NRJracing
      @NRJracing  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Just a whole lot of blah blah about 300hp my friend good block to work with otherwise it’s a just a 350.
      4 bolt & nitrite crank regardless not benefiting you performance wise and honestly not any more reliable than a 2 bolt with a standard 442 cast crank.
      However you can build a relatively nice motor if you go to a good set of aluminum heads and a hot camshaft I have built many 350’s stock shortblock with a good top end and a good camshaft, however you still are only looking at around 400hp +/- at best people like to spit out completely fictional numbers on their 350 builds but I’m here to tell you I’ve built 350’s on every level from bone stock to high compression high rpm combos and 400’s is about as good as it’s gonna get with stock rotating assembly and without getting completely unreasonable with it which I would never justify other than to satisfy cubic inch restrictions depending on which facet of Motorsports we are talking.
      Personal opinion?:
      I no longer find it worth it to upgrade a 350 beyond a good sounding camshaft on the initial build, otherwise I tell my customers just to go to a 383 you will never build a 350 that will satisfy you like going from the 350 to a 383 will.

    How about you guys build up a small block olds motor with the use of Big block olds heads and then use the a 350 Oldsmobile motor that was a diesel motor block 350 like that mondello performance in California builds up with a big block olds 425 crank shaft and use the factory high performance camshaft that was used in the past before they used roller cams I've gotten good performance with a build up of my own with the use of the 1970 350 small block olds motor and the w30 Cam shaft and use of the w30 headset the letter c casting heads and the performer rpm intake people who need to take notice of my own personal Creation maybe some one who is an motor enthusiast can tell me about how much torque and horsepower that combination makes I've already built it and driven it with that in a 71 Oldsmobile 442 just looking forward to seeing how much horsepower my combination puts out in curiosity
