This is the man who is the sole reason that I got into strength training. 9 years old watching 93 WSM. There he was. The world's strongest man from my Wales, my Cardiff. My single inspiration. Absolute beast

A true legend of the sport! I always felt your last event at the 1995 WSM was highly unfair, having to load those objects on such a high platform and then of course crushing your knees in the tire flip years later. You were fast and had immense static strength. One of the best!

    • @simay4977

100% Completely bias towards the taller guys. Ridiculous event

That event, as well as the O.D. Wilson fiasco showed me WSM was a work. Both events were created to deny the best their due.

      Absolutely!
They were running with the Nordic superman angle back then and a Welsh Celt went against that.
Lifting weight to height like they did to Gary was absurd.
I was talking about this with some guys at the gym, I put a 5 pound plate on the top of a power rack and asked the guys to beat that.
They couldn't because they didn't have my height or arm length.
Gary couldn't do it either, so I'm stronger than Gary Taylor?
      No way

Love Gary. Remember him in his prime. He had a very imposing, muscular physique and was super strong with a mental attitude to match. Only standing 5'11-6', he was at a great disadvantage at WSM and yet still was a force. Unbelievable

I didn't know much about Gary Taylor before watching this podcast but now I have he's become one of my favourite guests that you've had on, what a personable guy. Would be good to see him more involved in the current big Strongman shows in some capacity, he's a natural speaker and clearly has a good head on him plus his history as the No.1. Massive respect to that man 🙏

The first WSM I ever saw was in 1995. Gary Taylor was my favorite competitor straight away, I remember being so pumped watching him dominate the Flinstone press. Watching that planted the seed for almost 20 years of Strongman in Western Canada. Thank you for the motivation, you are a true legend 😊

I could just about lift one off the floor with both hands. I recall an incident which required a cell intervention as 3 cons were in a cell and refused to come out. Gary went in first with 2 other PE Officers. These 3 lads came flying out one at a time with Gary and the team (and the Officers) taking no shit. Happy days when we actually ran the jail's!

Loz id like to see u interview colin bryce about how unfair strongman can be e.g gary taylor and the 95 loading race, od wilson missing out and novikov missing out because of that silly last man standing to qualify that really does need to go! I know its almost tradition to have a novelty event but strongman needs to be about strength does it not, also id like to see questioned how in 07 how pudzianowski got denied a deadlift and in 08 poundstone done exact same and got given it and how in 08 poundstone received log lift reps and never locked out was this the best attempt to prevent pudzianowski getting a 5th title??? Would appricate a reply loz keep up the good interviews👍

Gary was an incredible strongman, amazing and explosive to watch, Him and MVM were my favourites from the 90's.

Jon Pall Sigmarson, Gary Taylor, Marius Pudzianowski - the lineage of living cartoon characters who were as strong as they looked. Aesthetics and function in equal measure, and legends all.

Favourite ever winner. What a final that was, the big out door amphitheatre in Orange. Looked so dramatic.

One of my favorites so far in the series.
Other suggestions for top athletes to interview would be Lasha Talakhadze, as well as another great interview option being Fernando Reis.
