Watching Capes battling with Jón Páll and Kaz are some of the fondest memories I have of the sport. He truly is a legend. Sending nothing but respect and admiration from the US.
Geoff Capes is a legend, he meant so much to British strongmen. I know he gained a lot of weight after his career ended but I'm glad he seems to be doing well and is still with us at 70 years old.
Big Loz and Geoff Capes now we're talking! This is Definitely becoming my favourite TH-cam channel not just because great interviews but also the history of episodes and top 10 list keep the content coming loz it's fantastic!
He’s a similar age to Odd Haugen yet competed at completely different times. It’s true capes was a house hold name, I followed strongman religiously for as long as I remember but my mum couldn’t name anyone from the last 20years but she knew Capes straight away!
Loz, can you have Gerrit Badenhorst (the South African Lion) on the show at some point? He is very underrated and was extremely strong and dominant in the 1990's. One of the guys who should have won but didn't (specifically the 1995 WSM).
Definitely gets my vote, although based on what Loz said about Gerrit in his "Top 10 Strongmen Never to Win The World's Strongest Man" video I'm guessing he's already on the list.
I went to watch a prelims back in Maldon Essex years ago, where Mr Capes was commentating. He was v.funny mocking the lads that couldnt even move the truck pull. My boyhood hero. Thanks Loz
You're doing incredible work for the history of the sport getting guys like Capes on the show. Very good point about athletes' entanglement in the organizations. Even if nothing happens, the results will always be tainted. WSM especially has some cleaning up to do. To be fair, you have to be careful not to get too entangled with WUS, too, Loz, if you want to stay a neutral observer.
Great interview, I was old enough to see Jeff win on the Tele in the 80s. Great hearing about the old-time strongmen too. Pity we can't talk to Jon Paul.
I loved watching Geoff Capes in the early strongman days. He looked close to a regularly burly guy you might see on the street, but somehow was very strong and skilled. His beard and hair were also epic.
Great interview with another true legend of the sport. It’s fun to look at the old WSM’s from the late ‘70’s and 80’s with Kaz, Geoff Capes, Jon Pall, and a plethora of shot putters, power lifters, and NFL linemen.
Thanks for getting Geoff on Big Loz, what an absolute pioneer and legend of the sport. Such an intelligent, knowledgeable and articulate man as well. I was hooked on every minute of that, it was like being a little kid and having your Grandad tell you stories 😅🙏
Fantastic interview again, Geoff was a colossal competitor and the reason I have been a lifelong Strongman fan. I can just about throw the hammer as far as he can shot put.
Loz this was by far my favourite interview, I had tears in my eyes, I grew up watching this man compete against JPS, in WSM, and I loved every minute. I was in awe of Geoff in his prime. To hear him speak, with such pure sportsmanship is all that is good with the world. I feel refreshed and enthusiastic that again a sport of gentlemen will rise up, and strongman will be popular as it was. I would love to shake his hand, it's a shame he doesnt come, but understandable. Thank you Loz for doing this interview. I am truly moved.
The great Geoff capes 💙 I grew up watching this amazing man and even met him at the Highland games once, he is lovely , fantastic interview 😍 wish we could see more of him 💙
Thank you for having this living legend of sport on your show, Loz! The younger generations of athletes ought look to this man as an example of how to conduct themselves; what a class act.
One of the best interviews I’ve seen...such a great British legend and a true gentleman. I learned alot from this...what a great guy. May Geoff remain with us for many years to come 👏🏼
WOW big Geoff what a gentleman and one of my heroes growing up i was always glued to the TV routing for him in WSM and all the athletic games. A true gent and always will be our greatest strongman
Love capesy, the early years of strongman and the pure strength days where awesome. I'm 42 and started watching strongman in 97 and was hooked. Just watched all the world's from 77 and the pure strength on TH-cam working nights through lock down and didn't want them to end. Nice one loz mate, this one is up there with garry Taylor interview as I'm from Wales.
This is exactly the Talking Strongman episode I've been waiting for! I haven't been this excited for a show since Saturday morning cartoons were a thing.
Loz, mate, that got me right in the feelings! We don't here from Geoff too often, these days. That was a pure delight. I could listen to his stories for hours.
That was a tremendous interview. Loz, you have a great skill there, you know when to talk and when to listen, and with Geoff, there was a lot of listening! Thanks for this one.
Glad you got hold of Geoff Loz Great interview and lovely to hear from Geoff A Legend of Strength. I grew up watching him Happy Memories was one of the very best in his era and took on Jon Pall. Thanks Geoff. All the Best. Ian.
I love this 100% the best interview Loz has ever done, Best British Athlete Britain has ever seen well done Loz your giving the viewers what they want 🇬🇧👍🏻 💪
another great interview. as a fellow fisherman hearing about Geoffs 40lb pike was extremely impressive. to put into perspective thats the equivalent of a 450kg deadlift or 200kg log press. it's a huge achievement for a fisherman.
It's funny how even strong men greats have mellowed in retirement. No animosity to anyone. But still encouraging a new generation. Good to see him in a happy place enjoying life.
Cheers for the interview with Geoff, I like him a great deal and it was very interesting. I do share some of his fears regarding WSM, it's direction and competitors "attitudes" :-)
Great interview, Geoff capes is a hero of mine, have watched strongman all my life and remember watching it as a kid. I hope Geoff has many more happy years ahead of him, would love to meet him one day. P. S I used to work with a guy called Richard and he used to compete in shotput discus and javelin when he was young and was not out of the top 3. I asked him why he never competed as a young man, he Mark you love strongman, I said yes, he then said well on the national scene a certain Mr capes was winning everything and he realised he then had no chance. Best wishes to you all 🙂👍
First strongman I can remember watching as a boy at Christmas, and even had his computer game for my amstrad 464. He's that basically the man that got me in to weight training
Wow....the interview we've all been waiting for,not only the Godfather of UK strongman but of UK sport end of.grew up watching this guy and have utter respect for his no bullshit approach to the sport.may not have won the most wsm titles but definitely up there as one of the greats.thanks Loz and any chance of seeing Glen Ross?
Self-effacing and very passionate about strength and athletics. What a great idea for a contest too, with the elimination dynamic! I'd like to see you getting a few more of the guys from the early 90s, Badenhorst, Herbel, Kiri, Ted Van De Parr, Magnuss Ver... Particularly Gerrit would have some stories and insights I imagine!
I've ALWAYS loved watching Geoff and have been a huge fan for years from across the pond in the U.S.! I never rooted for him against Kaz, but ALWAYS rooted for him against JPS :-D Thanks for bring us this interview Loz!!! #WorldsStrongestInterviewer
Man that was fantastic. Alf Tupper, Morgyn the Mighty. I lived in Doncaster 30 odd years ago. Trained at a gym called “Terry Hollian’s” Geoff Capes fantastic grip strength, David Webster reckoned he had the strongest grip ever. Fantastic perspective, loved his comments about Thor’s entourage and Eddie’s cryogenic chamber. You excelled yourself there Loz. Thank you.
I absolutely loved watching this interview & it was like listening to two long time neighbours with lots in common having a good ole chat over the garden fence which is a brilliant thing to do especially in these strange times of social distancing!!! Haha.. 😛
Thank's for bringing on Geoff, what a legend. I remember him as a shot putter but more from his strongman career competing against Kazmeir and Sigmarsson. I enjoyed this!
Another great interview with a legend. I was really looking forward to this one. I can relate to the mobility issues that Geoff has. 3 years ago I was able to run a 10k, now I need a cane to get around and I don't like to go into public because of it. I understand where he's coming from.
I agree with Mr. Capes on the "knowing the events before the contest" kind of ruins the whole mystique of strongman. Whereas it is good to have standardization and proper measures, it seems a better test of overall strength to not know the events pre-contest.
Thank you Big loz! I love the content! Very enjoyable content.i remember watching strongman comps as little girl, with my grandfather.i remember watching these men and was in awe.so thanks so much I enjoy your channel.
Thank you for doing all these Loz! The interviews with the older athletes are a looking glass into the sport during its infancy and who better to give insight into that era than Geoff Capes?
This kind of insight Geoff gives on the milo around strongman, the history of his family, business, different strengths perspective, traveling at 3000ft, and how the use of characters is the same today ( as long back as Ancient Rome gladiators and public humans hade a character). thanks, Loz! Ps. in north of Sweden ( artic circle ) around 1924 my grand grandparent was building the railway, and the was strong men back then that could to unbelievable things during a regular working day, from pulling out nails with their hands and lifting up frozen wagons with timber in the winter, that the horse could not pull up. (not i the horse was small and pull forward and did not have good grip). thanks, loz
Great interview as usual. I have been looking forward to this interview for a while now. Geoff Capes is a big part of why I love you guys!! When he said well now a days you have to do that, I couldn’t help but to think if it weren’t for his days there would be no now a days... great work Loz
That was a great interview and Thanks Big Loz I'm older and remember in the 80's watch him don't think for a minute that man was a fearless competitor and fun to watch one of my favorite WSM AGAIN Big Loz Thanks Awesome
Mr Capes doesn't have nearly enough air time these days.
Absolute legend.
That was absolutely brilliant, knew it would be!
For sure; What a treat to find this interview! Legend!!!!
Here after he passed away today. Rest in Peace 23 August 1949 - 23 October 2024
RIP Geoff. So sad to hear today that you have left us. I started watching WSM in the early 1980s when you were battling Kazmaier.
Watching Capes battling with Jón Páll and Kaz are some of the fondest memories I have of the sport. He truly is a legend. Sending nothing but respect and admiration from the US.
Was that the hardest era in strongman or was it the pudi big Z era or Brian Shaw Eddie hall hapthor error?
@@markyates9712 Every era is the hardest era
Geoff Capes is a legend, he meant so much to British strongmen. I know he gained a lot of weight after his career ended but I'm glad he seems to be doing well and is still with us at 70 years old.
This interview was hilarious at times, the phone going off, dog barking and shouting at the mailman. Too much fun! Capes is a legend for sure
Big Loz and Geoff Capes now we're talking! This is Definitely becoming my favourite TH-cam channel not just because great interviews but also the history of episodes and top 10 list keep the content coming loz it's fantastic!

Agreed, really entertaining and good analysis from loz and editing
Geoff, what a legend, always kind, always humble, he's so epic
I met Geoff as a child when he came to my junior school, and then 30 years later as a nurse. Truly lovely man.
Love how it sounds like Geoff is calling you Lol, great interview
Lul hahaha
Lol he’s always called me lol 😂
@@BigLozOfficial anyone ever called you Larry? 🤣🤣

Geoff Capes' frankness is wonderful. He is a strongman purist, and some things he says might ruffle a few feathers, but I agree with him 100%...
My favorite interview thus far. A pleasant chat. Geoff Capes was a phenomenal athlete, he had it all. Legendary!
That was a fantastic interview with Geoff who should have been knighted years ago. You are a very good interviewer Loz.
Loz, can you have Gerrit Badenhorst (the South African Lion) on the show at some point? He is very underrated and was extremely strong and dominant in the 1990's. One of the guys who should have won but didn't (specifically the 1995 WSM).

He’s my favourite Strongman, the Bloomfontein Bull!
Geoff was just amazing. I really don't think he gets the credit he deserves in strongman...at least here in the states. Great interview!
Mr. Shahlaei, thank you for all you are doing. These interviews are fantastic and very important for documenting the history of the sport.
Thank you! Lots more to come.
One of the great legends of strongman. God bless you Mr. Capes!!
I went to watch a prelims back in Maldon Essex years ago, where Mr Capes was commentating.
He was v.funny mocking the lads that couldnt even move the truck pull.
My boyhood hero. Thanks Loz
Loz: We ask and you provide! You legend!
Bless you, Geoff Capes! Well done
Definitely agree with turn up on the day and find the events. That shows true strength
