The Athletics announced Thursday, in partnership with Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, that they temporarily will play at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento from 2025 through at least 2027 after their Oakland Coliseum lease expires following the current 2024 MLB season.
The agreement to allow the A's to play at Sutter Health Park includes an option for a fourth year in case their proposed Las Vegas ballpark isn't ready by the 2028 MLB season.
Two hours after the news was announced, Ranadive, A's owner John Fisher and local Sacramento officials spoke during a press conference at Sutter Health Park, the current home of the Triple-A River Cats, an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

Brodie, I am a ballpark enthusiast. You did a bang-up job covering the A’s stadium saga. I know I belong to your division rival- the Texas Rangers. However, I as a Ranger, want to express my condolences to you and the entire A’s fanbase who’s going to lose the A’s after this season. I cannot begin to imagine the emotions you and the A’s fans are feeling.
As a ballpark enthusiast what are your thoughts on the Ballpark in Arlington’s short life span? I get the team wanted a roof but damn. Had always hoped to see a game, the white arches and ambiance.
@@scott6172relay I was not thrilled when they replaced The Ballpark in Arlington. They could’ve put a roof over it, but they chose not to. The new Globe Life Field is nice. However, it lacks the classic ballpark feel the other one had. Believe me, you would’ve loved The Ballpark in Arlington! It was how modern ballparks should look and feel like.
@@scott6172relay Unfortunately it is TOO HOT in Texas during the summer to have to play afternoon games on Sunday because MLB and the players association demanded afternoon games for Sunday night travel. Too many fans were affected with heat stroke. The Ballpark in Arlington is a great ballpark to watch a baseball game in the evening, but it's like being cooked in an oven during the afternoons, very little spade anywhere. The Rangers had no choice but to build a stadium with air conditioning and a roof. As for the fans, they are more upset with MLB and the players association forcing the Rangers to play afternoon games than they are with the Rangers management... The players association is more worried about their travel plans than they are with the health of their fans...
I spoke at my father’s funeral a week ago about him taking me to my first ever ballgame to watch the A’s at the Coliseum. Born and raised in SF, he’s essentially the reason I’m an A’s fan. I took my one year old son to a game last year, the only one we attended, and I looked forward to continuing the tradition with my lil guy. To see things transpire this way feels so abrupt and it cuts extremely deep.
I am so happy for your experience last year with your son, because I have always felt that it is a significantly rewarding thing to share a baseball game as Father and Son as many have felt for over a century. i hope you can find another way to build a bond with your son another way or with another team or sport that the Bay has to offer. Local minor teams can be just as enjoyable to have that baseball experience
I cannot help but feel so sorry for the A's fanbase. This is EXACTLY like 2004 where this happened to the Montreal Expos when they left and thus left Canada with only one team. You couldn't turn Expos fans into Blue Jays fans overnight nor have them follow the team as they became the Nationals. In fact? Expos fans were insulted the Nationals USED the Expos jerseys for a few games.
So anybody who knows the tragedy of the Montreal Expos, or was an Expos fan? Give a shout out to Oakland A's fans. They need you right now.😢

@BillyJoeMcallister all good. I am a Blue Jays fan and always will be, but I am also an avid supporter of the fallen Expos and do wish they return. And those Expos fans should be there for the A's fanbase. Of all Fandom? They understand.
Both DC and Montreal were historically screwed out of teams, it’s sad that the nats ended up taking another teams spot, would’ve been far better if they took the rays spot in 93
as an expo fan who followed the team after the move, what hurts more than the jerseys was them not acknowledging the Expos years when it comes to individual or team records
My dad was a Giants fan. He did not follow the Yankees or any team until the Mets came into existence. As for myself I did not experience a team leaving, I experienced a team coming. I was an Islander fan in 1982 and I still am but in 1982 I was very happy and still am that the Rockies moved to NJ and become the Devils because it meant I could go to games because the Meadowlands was close but while I rooted for the Devils and got to be in person when they won 2 cups in 95 and 03 whenever they played the Islanders I rooted for the Islanders.
One of the drawbacks about North American sports is (excepting the Green Bay Packers, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Saskatchewan Roughriders, and Edmonton Elks; the latter perhaps not for much longer) is the lack of community owned teams and/or an open sports league model. Everything is driven by greed; TV revenue or billionaire owners holding cities and fanbases hostage for more public money to fund their stadiums.

It's not just North American sports. I've been (trying to) get into NBP, and every team is essentially owned by a gigantic corporation except for one (and they have a franchise that was done dirty in a similar way back in 2004).

I don't really watch baseball too much (Ice hockey is my sport) but it is always sad to see a team go, RIP Oakland Athletics

I will miss going to Oakland Coliseum
I'm a lifelong Giant's fan and one of the most painful memories I have is the final day of the 1992 season when the Giants supposedly played their last game in San Francisco, so I know how much you A's fans all are hurting. You have my deepest sympathies.
We love you Brodie. Thanks for all of your hard work and coverage on this. It truly feels like a loss of a loved one. All of my life I have found excitement and comfort into not only going to the games at the Coliseum but just having the games on tv in my home or even on the radio. As a kid it would make my whole day if i got any A's player in my pack of baseball cards. Memories of the Bash Bros to meeting Jose Canseco and Dave Stewart in the late 80's, the Mother's Cookies card sets, 3 World Series, the streak, Moneyball, our most recent playoff teams, all the way to coaching my son's Babe Ruth Baseball team to a Championship here in the East Bay proudly as the A's. My whole life I learned to have heart and never give up and I credit that to the Oakland A's. This team is woven into the fabric of the community more than folks on the outside would ever realize. That's why it boggles my mind that folks from other cities are attacking us fans when we have simply beem fighting to keep OUR team home. Hoping that the deal in Vegas somehow falls apart and better business in Oakland prevails someday because it would be incredibly sad to not have a major league team for all of this passion that exists here. The way the organization blatantly turned their backs on us and created the climate in which to point a finger at us and place blame for their actions is hard to forgive and I don't see myself supporting them or MLB for that matter for part they played in all of this. R.I.P. Bay Bridge Series... Oakland A's Forever!!!

I'll always be an "Oakland" A's fan. They moved to Oakland the year I was born, so essentially, I've been a fan my entire life. But going forward, I will ONLY be an Oakland A's fan. When that chapter is over, so will my love for them. My Dad covered the team in the Bay Area. He too, was a big fan. Many memories of going to games with my Dad. When he passed, I placed his A's hat next to him in his coffin. They've broken my heart. 😢

@@jameskeys971 Besides the Athletics, Dodgers and Giants, there are a Few MLB teams that have relocated throughout their History. The Braves were in Boston and Milwaukee and are now in Atlanta. The District of Columbia as in Washington DC has had the most activity when it comes to relocation of MLB teams. You had the “Senators-1” leave for Minnesota becoming the Twins, then the “Senators-2” leave for Texas becoming the Rangers. Then the Montreal Expos moved to Washington DC and became the Nationals.
It's not a long drive to Sactown so you can still see them often!

As someone who went through the loss of the Sonics in Seattle when I was in middle school (about 16 years ago), my heart aches for the people of Oakland as a sports fan. This is absolutely sad news to hear & I am going to miss going to games at the Coliseum as a visiting fan. I always believed Seattle would get another NBA franchise. I think Seattle and Vegas get the two expansion teams. And your city has already released the Kraken on the NHL.

Really sorry the hear the final news and really feel for all the Oakland A's fans. Must be so tough to lose a community organization like a MLB team. Really brings a community together. We are down in LA but were able to travel up and see a game last year with some friends. It was a great night out at the ballpark and I could see the charm of the team and the ballpark. So much great history with the team... so unfortunate it had to end like this. Thanks for bringing us the honest truth with this tough story. Oakland A's.. you will always be remembered.
I was at a Dodger home game in the '90s and it was fabulous. Never been the the Coliseum, but it looks like a nice open air, ballpark with natural grass and, from what I understand, great weather in Oakland. Maybe I'll take a vacation out that way this summer to catch a series - that is, if I can get tickets...
So sorry to hear this Brodie! We went through this with the Chargers in San Diego and it was gut wrenching. It’s got to be so tough for you and Oaklanders having to go through this multiple times with losing the Raiders and Warriors as well. You’ve covered this story with class and dignity. Being a resident of SoCal this is where I get my news on the Oakland A's relocation TH-cam sent me to you. All of the details you shared with us here kept me informed. I say the Rams left LA to move to a brand new stadium and came back in 20 years. The OAKLAND A's will be back just is the matter of the time they come back.

I'm from San Diego and a Padres fan, but this is sad and hurts our states' sports history. I feel sorry for all the fans in Oakland. Battle of the Bay regardless of the sport is officially died. I was born and raised in Los Angeles. The Bay Area has been my home for the last 11-12 years, specifically, the East Bay. My love for the Dodgers is beyond measure but I proudly claim the East Bay.. I’m not an A’s fan but I’ve followed them since I’ve lived here and found their fans to be knowledgeable, respectful and true fans of the game.
This whole situation pains me and breaks my heart. I think the worst part of it all is how MLB just sat by and watched it happen. It’s like a crime being committed on someone’s front step and no one calling the police.
Brodie, thanks for covering this story and being a voice for the people. There might be people more connected but there is absolutely no one better suited to cover this story and the national media should be following your lead.

Well said across the board Brodie! I’ve been following this story since I got wind of the A’s coming to my hometown of Vegas, and while I absolutely hate everything about this, and would rather the A’s stay in Oakland and we get an expansion team, your coverage of this whole thing has been nothing short of excellent from the beginning. I saw the pain you felt in a prior video that was actually on NBC Bay Area, I’ve felt sentimentality for the people of the east bay, and what this means for that community… I cannot imagine what it truly feels like, I hope to god I never have to go through it, but for you Brodie, my heart goes out to you, and my heart goes out to the A’s fanbase. We don’t want the A’s… they’re Oakland’s team, not ours. It needs to stay that way, and not what the future is entailing for the franchise, and for the 2 cities.

You have been awesome, Brodie. This really hurts. I heard "Celebration " the other day, and I am not ashamed to say that I got very emotional. I saw my first A's game in 1971 when Vida won his 20th game. I was privileged and blessed to cover the A's for three years, two of those when Billy Martin was managing the Green and Gold. I got to know some of the players and had a wonderful interview with Billy, sat in the A's dugout, sat in with Red Rush and Dominic Valentino....I could go on forever with all the memories, season after season. In September, the memories will cease to be created. My grandson will never get to create his own memories. This really hurts, REALLY hurts.

As a resident of Sacramento for the last 21 years I have always said the A's should move to Sacramento, and that I would be a fan of the team if they moved here. This is just awful the way it has unfolded. I was raised in San Diego and have lived through the Clippers and much more painfully the Chargers moving to LA. I understand the pain A's fans have gone through, as the Chargers stadium debate ran for 15 years and ended in the same kind of heartache. I will always be a Padres fan first and foremost, but man I feel guilty about seeing the A's at Raley Field next year. Sorry, Sutter Health Park. My heart goes out to all the A's fans everywhere.

Thanks Brodie, I have held you dear for the last year. My parents first date was a game at Shipe in 48, my first game was in April of 68. my heart is broke.
I am flying in from Albuquerque on May 5th and back home that night. It will be 51 years since my first game in 1973.

I am a Seattle guy transplanted to the Bay Area for the last bunch of years. I’ve gone to the Colosseum to watch games when the Mariners are in town, or even just other A’s games. These fans were always super-real, passionate, and very loyal. Regardless of how their team was doing . Always enjoyed these nice days/evenings out at the ballpark in Oakland.
This is a sad day for the Bay Area. The Athletics fans deserve so much better.

I live 25 blocks from the stadium here in Sacramento. I could not care less about MLB coming here. The A's are an East Bay team with an East Bay vibe. That was a huge part of the attraction. There were times in the Coliseum where the atmosphere was incredible. And that's really an understatement. Where else on earth did that atmosphere exist? Nowhere. Sad fan here. Thank you Brodie for everything.
I fell in Love with the Okland A's in the 80's..... one of the saddest moments for myself and my son..... 😢 i didn't want it to end this way......
Man. My first game ever was with my Dad and uncle in 1974. The A’s were facing the Milwaukee Brewers, who had a young phenom shortstop named Robin Yount. I was in kindergarten, 1974. Many more A’s games, many more memories went on for decades. I always knew this was coming, but it’s still hard to see it happen. 😢
My first game was on my 9th birthday in 1971. Vida pitched a shutout and one of my favorite players Campy Canpaneris stole 2 bases. It was one of my best memories with my dad.
Brodie, as you take a step back on your A's coverage, I want to thank you for your dedicated coverage the last several years. You provided an important, balanced resource to viewers at a difficult time for East Bay baseball fans and baseball fans in general. You not only helped us understand what was happening, but you provided insight that helped explain the why and the factors that led people involved in these negotiations to make the decisions they did. Sincere condolences Brodie, but also sincere thanks for the great reporting throughout this saga. I haven't lived in N. California for many years, but am still sad and bewildered by what's happened with the Athletics. And I'm also thinking of how similar, in some ways, this is to the A's move when they were torn way from Philadelphia in the early 50s. Then, as now, MLB franchise owners simply stood and watched as the club was ripped from Philly and many hearts were broken. Fans truly are an after thought.
As an Angels fan in the UK, I stumbled across your channel during the As fiasco. I have watched the Angels play in Oakland a number of times. Your passion and professionalism during this disaster has been admirable and touching. Good vibes
Brodie, I very much appreciate your coverage of this topic and learned a lot from your reporting. I'm an Oakland native that was lucky enough to grow up in Oakland when the A's, Seals (NHL), Raiders, Oaks (ABA) and Warriors played in the Coliseum Complex. Now this year they will all be gone. It's highly unfortunate that John Fisher purchased the A's. The City of Oakland has to bare part of the blame as well in my opinion.
Brodie, as a New Yorker, sorry to see Oakland A’s fans lose their team and another sports franchise (Raiders). I loved while watching the Yankees play at the coliseum and hearing the fan base with their drums and horns in the background and the colorful fans in their costumes rooting for their team. It had the feel of a small town rooting for their favorite college team in that festive atmosphere. Hope Oakland gets an expansion team to heal the gaping wound the A’s will be leaving.

Oakland sure got it’s money’s worth on their stadium. From the days of Campy Campaneris, Joe Rudi, and Diego Seguí, to today. That’s a long way back to be at the same field. Lots of memories at the ol’ Oakland-Alameda County Stadium. Enjoy the last year.
Heartbroken for you and everyone in Oakland Brodie. This damn near happened to my O’s and while I’m so relieved it didn’t, I’m just so gutted that it actually happened to you guys. I have lived here in the East bay for over 40 years, and after growing up a loyal Dodgers fan in LA, my obvious choice when I moved here was to start following the A's. I have been to hundreds of games over the years, and have raised my son as a die-hard A's fan and seeing him now so heart-broken (he is 31 now) has been the toughest thing of all. We are devastated, but having you follow the saga has been a huge help during the past cojuple of years, so I want to extend my gratitude. I guess now we are focused on the rebuilding of the Sharks, which we think is going in the right direction! blue jays fan here, but i got into baseball as a child in the late 80's due to jose canseco and have always held a soft spot for the a's since then... many fond memories of the bash bros, rickey henderson, dave stewart, bob welch, eck, steinbach as well as some of the latter incarnations that included zito, hudson and mulder... dallas braden's perfect game... josh reddick and careless whisper... and of course the trade that would bring us josh donaldson. always the ultimate underdogs and easy to root for. they better at least leave you the green and gold... so sorry to the city of oakland, you deserve so much better

When I heard this news I was pretty stunned, and sad, because I knew that that meant the A's were officially gone from Oakland; I'm still processing it too. The second thing I thought of was how you were doing Brodie.

Welp, whatever the algorithm was doing to lead me to this channel, I appreciate it! I always thought I listened to sports talk because I cared about sports! And that may be true…. But what I didn’t realize is that I’m MORE interested in intellectual sports conversation that doesn’t yell and scream chaos into my ears but instead speaks clearly, delivers points directly and leaves room for me to use my own brain to receive the information and also process the information! This is hands down the BEST sports voice I’ve come across in the past 10 years. If you’ve invested in advertising your channel, thank you and, money well spent! Lifelong A’s fan. First sporting event I went to was a A’s game in Oakland vs the Blue Jays in 92.Sat in the bleachers. Went to hundreds of games ever since. Many with my dad and brother. I was there for the winning streak in 02. So many memories. Now because of a terrible incompetent owner who’s not even a fan of the team he owns will never create new memories. This hurts 😔

Kudos to Bruiser Brodie. Even though he obviously wanted the A's to stay in Oakland, I found him to be very unbiased in his coverage of the "A's to Vegas" story, trying to call it down the middle as events transpired - quite rare for a local broadcaster. I was an Expos fan as a kid even though I lived (and still do) in Blue Jays territory, so I know it's tough to see your favorite team relocate. Seals, Raiders, Warriors, now the A's. At least you have the SF teams + the Sharks.
Thank you for all the information regarding the Athletics, a 124 year old team that could never get their act together. Being from Buffalo, I know how it was losing the Buffalo Braves, a long time ago. It's mind blowing in Oakland losing all the teams in every professional sport....the Golden Seals, the Warriors, the Raiders....& now, THE ATHLETICS. My heart goes out to you. Could imagine how devastated you are 😢
8:39 And San Jose State Grad! you are a true Bay Area native that takes pride and loyalty towards this great part of California and the USA. This is one reason why i have gravitated towards your work and absolute devotion for our regional sports teams. I was born in San Jose. Grew up in Santa Cruz, San Francisco and Marin. Then also living in Oakland, back to San Jose and now South Bay Morgan Hill. I root and hope for success in all of our professional sports teams(yes even the Raiders even though I bleed red and gold. As well for the A's, even though i bleed orange and black) and have felt in my life to be very fortunate to experience success from all of them during my 47 years here. My point is, that I understand how dedicated A's or rather Oaktowns ' feelings of being gutpunched by the powers at be. the Giants A's game where the fans came together in unity to chant dont sell I was rooting for the Giants to win but literally yelling out loud in my living room in unison right along with them. I had emotional feelings of the Warriors moving from the arena next to the Coliseum. so we have a deep tie to our region and just like the lifelong dedicated A's fans feel, I just simply can't imagine my Bay Area without them. When they move, I will feel a part of me is missing as well., Even though i have generally not been fond of the drums in the bleachers at A's games.. I have a feeling that in the future i will feel significantly different and wish those drums were still there and miss them. you don't know what you have until its gone. Brodie..I appreciate your work to bing info to our citizens and understand why you will take a step back in the A's news. The close it comes to deadline , there will be plenty of entities thinking there is a news story finally in a society losing a loved one. sorry for the novel
Winnipeg kid here. Don’t care about baseball, but care deeply about this story because we went through it with the original Jets. Oakland fans, from the bottom of my heart I’m sorry. This is going to sting for a long time. In fact even if you get another team in 10-20 years this one will keep stinging every time relocation comes up or is mentioned. Good luck.
My first sports game I ever went to was May 1st 1991, Oakland vs New York Yankees when Ricky Henderson broke Lou Brocks stolen base record. My grandmother took me, I was 3. Now I have a 4 month old daughter, this news just makes me thankful that she will have a chance to experience her first sports outing as I did, in Oakland. Even if she won’t remember it, I will.

We appreciate you, Brodie. The A's being ripped away from Oakland is sad, and even more heartening, will be the loss of a community. Communities are so important in peoples lives. It could be as simple as a bird-watching community, muscle car enthusiasts, pickleball group. The community of diehard A's fans in the East Bay is being torn away. The devoted "Super Fans." I am not one of them, but, I certainly feel bad for this community. I can't even imagine.

I'm a fan since spring '89, and I'm just so over the A's / coliseum being a joke, and I've been strung along about a new ballpark for 20 years, so this is a net positive for me
I'm a San Ramon / Walnut Creek guy, but eventually had to move on from the bay in general 2 years ago, which helps me cope with all this
Thank you Brodie for your hard work, insight and stellar reporting during this entire saga. And I still miss Ray Fosse. After Ray died, to me, is when things really started to take a rapidly strange twist for the worse towards the demise of this storied franchise. The A's departure feels like a betrayal, a divorce and a long cancerous death all rolled into one event. I know that sounds melodramatic, but I've been an Athletics fan for 52 years. They are a big part of who I am. I have no idea what I'm going to do with 50+ years of Oakland gear and memorabilia. But as long as Fisher and Co. are in charge (and Manfred for that matter) I'm just done with all things MLB. It's left a big hole and created a lot of time that I won't be spending watching games, attending games or reading anything I can find about baseball and my beloved Athletics. Thank you again Brodie and much love and respect to my sisters and brothers in the green and gold.
Bought 7 tickets for 9/26 section 120. Will go to as many more as I can at Oakland. I’ve lived in Sacramento for 20 years.even though I also support the boycott- I just won’t let Fisher and cronies steal that from me. I will be buying concessions and tipping in cash.
I will not go to any Sacramento games.

Not much to say that hasn’t already been said so eloquently by others in the comment section, but sending condolences from afar. As MLB and sports fans in general we all have our own rooting interests but it’s also one big extended family. Many of us hurt for you all today.

Thank you, Brodie! A very sad story! The Athletics have been a sort of mobile franchise moving from Philadelphia, to Kansas City to Oakland, and now to Las Vegas via Sacramento! I feel for the fans! Being the a senior, I remember the move from Philly to Kansas city, and trading baseball cards (are they still a thing?) for the Athletics in Philly and KC as a kid.

Brodie, you gained a subscriber out of me because of this entire ordeal with this team. As soon as this story broke, I anticipated both Casey (Pratt) and your responses. You delivered just as I expected you to, with the utmost professionalism, yet definitely a little bit of emotion, as well.
I'm also an East Bay guy, like you. Born and raised in Oakland, grew up on Oakland A's games. Anyone with the same upbringing is feeling this just as hard as you.
Won't lie, I hurt for my hometown and the immensely loyal A's fanbase. A loyalty that is certainly rare, yet this organization, outside of the team itself, HAS NOT DESERVED over the last couple of decades.
Figuring out where to go from here will be a challenge, but I know "The Town", and we may feel this for a while, but we'll be alright. We've been here before.

It's just terrible. The A's now become the first MLB club to relocate 3 times, and it didn't have to happen. They have been in Oakland longer than even Philadelphia. Just a shame.
Unlike a lot of other teams that relocated they actually had success in Philly. 5 of their 9 World Series titles were as Philly. Not to mention the 13 years in KC, so the team has spent more years in other cities than they did in Oakland overall.
It’s a shame I never got to see this team fully commit to anything in my lifetime thank you Fisher.
I went to high school in Sacramento, and moved to SF at 18. I was happy to see Sacramento get the Kings, and went to games when visiting my Mom and Stepdad. But I can't let it slide, the way the Oakland Athletics have treated their fans and the city of Oakland is deplorable. They pitted other cities like Salt Lake against us,

My first MLB game was a DH at the Coli against the Red Sox. In the first game Danny Cater hit a grand salami and Captain Sal hit a 2-run dinger as the A's prevailed. Vida started the 2nd game, but we lost by 1 run. His time was still 2 years away. I have lots of other great memories of the A's at the Coliseum in later years. This is a travesty, a tragedy. My heart is broken.

This reminded me when the Houston Oilers left Houston and played in Memphis as an interim location before moving to Nashville. I grew up in NYC and I remember my first WS the “You Gotta Believe” Mets playing Reggie Jackson and the A’s. Great A’s teams over the years. Sad to see it end. Condolences to you and A’s fans.
