    Here's the short version: Vegas offered $380,000,000 cash to the worst owner in MLB. Oakland did not, and will not.

    Ownership presented a greedy Howard Terminal proposal from the very beginning. A $12b package that exploited prime real estate and expected the city to foot the bill for major infrastructure costs. Ownership knew they always had Vegas in their back pocket as a bargaining chip threatening the move.

    • @tqmeone
      @tqmeone ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Why I agree you have to admit this was pushed by Mayor Schaaf while the City Council was only so- so about it. The Port unions were ABSOLUTELY against it. You can't just build a stadium where ever you want. The government has to give you premission. And at the time, the City of Oakland didn't even have control of HT. That had to be wrestled from the Port Authority. That, and years of litigation and studies followed by Oakland looking under every rock for free (public) money from the Feds and State sank the project. They never had the amount they needed and the clock ran out.

      @@duderdude4831 The city of Oakland was still SHORT on the funds to support the infrastructure at Howard Terminal. While someone can build a huge building for several thousand condos and offices, if the city's water and sewer mains won't support the development, well, there won't be a development... Developers don't. rebuild the city's mains, cities do, that is if the city desires the developments tax revenues in the future... Consider the city's infrastructure costs as a investment for future revenues... Now the city may have saved on the costs, they will not get any future revenues either. Furthermore, the city owns a Coliseum without any tenant. I wonder how long the Coliseum will survive without a tenant as the city won't maintain it without a tenant...

    I'm an A's fan that lives in Northern Nevada and I don't want them to move. I'm pissed at Oakland for fing the team around. A lot of people told me you're lucky because you get to more games. No I don't. Use your maps app and see how far it is from Gardnerville, NV to Oakland. Then see how far it is from Gardnerville to where the A's new park is going to be. It's a 3.5 hour drive for me to go see them to play in Oakland. It's a 7 hour 15 minute drive to see them play at their new park in Las Vegas. MLB already said they would waive the location fee.

    There are only three MLB teams that have never issued a 100 million dollar contact. The A's, the White Sox, and the KC Royals. Yet, there is only ONE team that has never even had a 100 million dollar payroll, and that's the Oakland Athletics. The owner doesn't invest in the team, and fans are sick of a team getting gutted each year. The blame falls squarely on the ownership, and if the A's move to Vegas, Fisher will either sell the team for more profit or continue to fall back to the same routine of spending nothing and collecting revenue sharing in the now 40th TV market (Vegas). Watch.

    I am an A's fan. If Fisher wanted to stay in Oakland, the team would be there. But he, Manfred, and MLB want a team in Las Vegas-period. No offer Oakland would put forth would have been acceptable.
    I doubt The A's will work in Vegas. Fisher is absurdly cheap and did his best to poison the well in Oakland. You have to make a splash like signing Ohtani and building around him. Fisher will never do that.
    The Raiders crowds are majority visiting fans. Vegas did not want The Raiders and the local populace does not want The A's.
    The reason The Golden Knights have succeeded is that they are an expansion team founded in Las Vegas. It is *their team* Not from anywhere else.

    My family arrived in the East Bay in 1966 when I was two. The Coliseum opened in 1967 and the A's arrived in 1968. All my life I have been going to the Coliseum and rooting for the A's. I have seen them all, Reggie, Rudi, Ricky, Hunter, Bando, Chavez, Donaldson, Lansford, Chapman, Stew, Eck on and on and on. I saw a Nolan Ryan no-hitter there. I saw Clemens lose his cool and get tossed early in the '89 division series against Boston from great seats I could read his lips. I have witnessed so many epic moments all my life there. But it means nothing to current ownership. It is a lifetime for me but nothing to them. Do you not get what makes your business a success? We do not pay to watch the owners of a team. How can you be that greedy and that heartless?

      No, they asked for the moon and stars, then the second they could leave they asked for a smaller stadium 9n less land that cost less money with STATE aid instead of CITY aid, shouldn't take a degree in finance to understand one of those entities has a larger budget,and that's the one he asked for less public money. Oakland was working in a sight and securing public funds for the stadium and infrastructure for a site at Howard Terminal for a stadium of a similar size to Vegas. It's on ownership to make give stadium plans for approval for it and funding from the city/state, not the other way around, and he purposely chose to ask for so much that they couldn't say yes.

If Oakland is honest with itself, they will understand that the city or "the Town" as they call it is not in a position to host a professional sports club. They are one of the most unique fanbases around but financially the city just can't do it. Moving to Vegas is bittersweet because of all the memories they made in Oakland but hopefully when that stadium is built, it will reflect their past and future. #LetsGoAs

The A's drew almost 3 million in both 90' and 91' and that's before Mount Davis was built. Also, they had the highest payroll in baseball in 91' while Haas was owner. It's not just Fisher as a lousy owner, Schott, Hofmann and Wolff were also. I don't think Fremont was a good idea but when that fell through, I would have looked hard at Sacramento. As sad as it is, it makes sense for the A's to move, although I do wish to a market more keen on getting a ball club like Nashville or Charlotte. However, what's going to be required from the A's and their owners is one key thing (outside of actual spending on team payroll obviously): a full, top-to-bottom, rebrand. Part of the reason the Golden Knights have been so wildly successful in Vegas and for the NHL as a whole is the fact they are an expansion team, born and bred exclusively for Las Vegas. The Raiders were able to get away with keeping their brand due to the fact the Raider brand is extremely strong nationwide and an icon for the NFL. The A's can't do that. The A's brand is tarnished and associated with Oakland and being a cheap poverty franchise. That's not going to fly, so they need a new name, new colors, new uniforms, and a new identity to show Vegas they're not just guests but their team now. Plus, the early merchandise sales will certainly make them lots of money too.

    Blame on Manfred who seems to have no clue what´s going on in Oakland and their crappy ownership. I recommend to watch Casey Pratt or Brodie Brazil to get a full view on the picture. It doesn´t make absolutely no sense to move to Vegas. Smaller Market, less gov. funding compared to Oakland, smaller stadium (30k) on an only 9acre leased landside compared to over 50 acre at Howard Terminal, in Vegas nearly every A´s game needs to be sold out to make it affordable, etc..... But if Vegas will get it they will recognize very soon that this has been a bad deal as they don´t get a winning team as long as Fisher is the owner.This guy is not willing to invest in the team to make it competitve (See A´s for more than a decade, see San Jose Earthquakes).

      @@gregusjay Only according the the Mayor who doesn't have a leg to stand on. The A’s have acted in good faith in their 20 plus year attempt to find a suitable stadium solution in the Bay Area. Their current location at the Oakland-Alameda Colosseum is not only past its prime, but considerably below the standards of Major League Baseball.
      Not seeing sufficient progress in their quest, the League directed the A’s two years ago to seek other alternative locations. The A’s decided with League approval, that Las Vegas would be an acceptable alternative to consider. During the past two years, the A’s have been very open about their parallel path approach.
      Due to external time pressures, and considering the situations in both Oakland and Las Vegas, the A’s made a decision in April to focus on Las Vegas.
      So the bottom line, the Mayor's claim is without merit, the legislation by Lee and her cohort will go nowhere. It is only political grandstanding for her Senate campaign.

    • @gregusjay
      @gregusjay ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Baseball_Fan_NV I don't agree with your assumption of the facts. Oakland did indeed have a solid proposal that was made to the A's. Unlucky for Oakland a new mayor took office and pretty much has opposed giving John Fisher more public funds as Oakland had already raised roughly 400 million from private and state entities. Seems you and the commish of baseball are ignorant of the facts. Fisher is cash poor and his value is tied to stock in his GAP company and the revenue sharing $ he gets for the A's. An example of how of touch Commish Manfred is on the situation..he referred to the A's site as the MGM site and had no inclination of the offers Oakland has made. But what will be interesting is where Fisher will get the 1.5 Billion to build the smallest ball park in the majors. My bet is he flips the team and cashes out at Nevada's expense. So he can line his coffers with real $$ since his company is failing.

    • @Baseball_Fan_NV
      @Baseball_Fan_NV ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@gregusjay I don't know if you follow Zennie, but he is quite familiar with the situation in Oakland and said they provided a Term Sheet, which is different than an actual proposal. But aside from those details, whether Oakland had provided the A's a proposal, the real question is if the proposal was acceptable to the A's, or the best one in their judgement. Apparently even if the Oakland had provided the A's a proposal, it clearly wasn't good enough to entice them to pursue that in Oakland versus going to Las Vegas.
      As far as how Manfred referred to the site, that was an innocent mistake. MGM is next to the Tropicana site and is very prominent. Could have been just a slip of the tongue. I'm sure he was familiar with the situation in Las Vegas, especially based on reports that he and Gov. Lombardo had been in touch.
      Also, it can be problematic to determine Fisher's assets as solely related to the GAP stock value. Most likely all the income over the years has been invested in a diversified portfolio.
      Bottom line, the A's were open in their parallel path approach and they decided on Las Vegas.

    Some of the information in this video is incorrect.
    1. You imply that the sale of the A’s in 1995 was due to the death of their owner Walter Haas. Not true. Walter Haas agreed to sell the A’s to Steve Schott & Ken Hoffman in January of 1995. Walter Haas himself gave the reason as business: he lost money operating the team every year he owned it. Walter Haas died on September 20, 1995, a full 9 months after agreeing to sell the team. The other MLB owners approved the sale on September 14, 1995, 6 days before Haas died.
    2. You state that the attempted sale of the A’s in 1978 to Marvin Davis (and a subsequent move to Denver) didn’t happen because of the Oakland Coliseum reacting to the Raiders impending move to Los Angeles. Not true. The Board of Directors of the Oakland Coliseum would not release the A’s from their lease due to the actions (or more specifically, the lack of actions) of the San Francisco Giants. The Oakland Coliseum Board was willing to release the A’s from their lease in 1978 if the Giants would agree to play one-half of their home games in the Oakland Coliseum. The Giants balked, agreeing to only play a minimal number of home games (about 20) in the Oakland Coliseum. Thus the Board held the A’s to their lease, and the deal between Finley and Davis was scrapped. The issue with the Raiders moving to Los Angeles did not arise until almost a full 2 years later in 1980 when Raiders owner Al Davis and the Los Angeles Coliseum announced an agreement. The Raiders didn’t play in Los Angeles until the 1982 season.

      BULLCRAP! The city of St. Louis REFUSED to build a new stadium. It's STILL being used, by a U.S.F.L. team. Because the city WON'T build a NEW stadium.

    Oakland is kind of a dump these days. They were going to move sooner or later.

    Yes KC was like a farm club for the Yankees as a minor league team and a major league team

    “We at LaBreece TV” is one dude. Needs more logic though some interesting facts. Vegas will learn the hard way about Fisher. Boycott Gap and might as well boycott the team if every owner who approved an A’s move - we got plenty of REAL BASEBALL on TH-cam. Who needs these shmucks.

    The A's never had a winning season in Kansas City the best year was 1966 when they were 74-86
