- Indonesia is set to elect a new president on Wednesday. Three candidates are facing off, but with one clear favorite. Prabowo Subianto has the backing of current president Joko Widodo - and is leading the polls. Prabowo has been a staple of Indonesian politics for decades, and is a controversial figure. He has been accused of human rights abuses during Indonesia's dictatorship. His rivals say they will offer the country a needed change.

I've been following Indonesian politics, and my understanding is that Jokowi's involvement raises all kinds of ethical issues among intellectuals and politicians (though the populace seem blissfully oblivious) because a President currently still in office should not be overtly supporting one candidate, not to mention that Gibran's selection reeks of nepotism. He's essentially a political nepo baby that Jokowi's using to extend his influence over Indonesian politics because there is no third term.

The answer is why the Indonesian people chose Prabowo Subianto because he is a figure who is definitely not a radical towards a particular religion, you know Indonesia has many tribes, religions and cultures, only Prabowo represents a family with a diverse background.
