Iriana Widodo, wife of Indonesian President Joko Widodo, has been known as a reserved first lady, generally keen to stay out of the limelight during her husband’s nine years in office. For the past few weeks, however, her name has set Indonesian social media abuzz with heated debate over allegations that she masterminded the vice-presidential candidacy of her son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as running mate of Prabowo Subianto - the leading candidate in the race to become the next presidential after Joko’s term end.

The fact that Constitution Court of Law (highest authority in Indonesia) changed the constitution to let Jokowi's son met the requirement for election and then the Chief of Constitution Court of Law (which is Jokowi's brother in law) sentenced a heavy ethical violation and demoted as the chief for this matter is mind blowing
Don't create any hoax. The Indonesian constitution Guarentees every Indonesian to elect and be elected. The Constitution judges have argument that the age restrictions on election is against this constitution.
However all Jokowi's political haters are mainly graduated from the USA universities such as Amin Rais, the father of reformation movement got scholarship from Fullbright foundation. Jimly Ashidiqie was graduated from Harvard Law school. He is the head of MKMK who fired all constitutions judges who made this court decision.

This is misleading information as the high court was do the public law, not doing the personal law. The law was accepted by all member in high court. After the 8 member done the same law of number 141 inside of number 90, that is clear that assumed of law number 90 was legal performing . This the fact. Of course tempo is a paying magazine that don't like government. Government also can't do the same to void this magazine because of freedom press law .

Nepotism in Indonesia is not a new thing, it has existed since the ancient times and is already rooted in our society. Not just in government but also in private companies and other organizations too (even including foreign companies that made a branch/HQ here too), a lot of people gets their job due to "connections" and a lot of them are "helped" by their family members and friends to get in, while the ocnnectionless will have less chance of getting them.
If anyone wants to get rid of the corruption/nepotism in the government then they need to start walk the talk themselves and not rely on their family or other connections to get into their current positions. In the end the people running the governments are a part of the society too. So if our society in general are still like this then it will just never end, cause the people running the government are just doing what society have been doing all this time. But I know it will never end in Indonesia, cause its convenient and people only likes to point at things and be angry with it when others benefit from it but will do the same nonetheless if they have the opportunity to do it.

Interfering with the law, so that his son would be eligible as a vice president candidate. That really sums it up.
The magazine that uncovered this story is a well respected magazine. They always speak truth to power, regardless who’s in power. To cast this as merely a family gossip is a lazy analysis. It IS a “family affair” that family just happens to be the family in power, using the power and influence of the father to advance the son’s political position, even changing constitution with the help of the uncle. And its been happening since the son ran for mayor 2 years ago. The mother is the one whos been openly urging the extended family to support the son, she also met with potential sponsors and volunteers, she also scolded the father for not being proactive enough in propping up the son. Now, the father uses his power over government institutions to help win his son.

Nepotism is a huge concern, makes all of us wonder if we have progressed as far as previously thought. But 2 other things:
1. Megawati has steadily groomed her daughter to take her position, and no one has really raised concern. SBY has even promoted his relatively inexperienced son to the highest position of his political party and been trying to win him a ticket of presidency or vice-presidency without anyone making any noise. So what is all this commotion with Iriana? If Iriana was a man who “sets up this scheme,” no one would call her a king dowager, would they?
2. Prabowo is the opportunist as he has always been.
Everyone does the nepotism, but only few of them change the law.
Megawati and SBY are not government officers. They did it not with support of the country. Unfortunately, political parties in Indonesia is like companies. They have private owners or majority shareholders. Anyway, try to see PDIP without Megawati or Demokrat without SBY. See what will happen with those parties, do people will still vote those parties? They are the reason those parties exist. So they can choose anyone to replace them someday in those parties.
Proof the KKN (Korupsi, Kolusi, Nepotisme) (Corruption, Collusion, Nepotism) still exist in Indonesia, in various degrees.

Indonesian voters are part of the swing voters who have no loyalty to a party or rulling family. So, no matter who's the candidate that offered by the rulling party or rulling family, if the voters didn't like the candidate, they won't choose that person
Take north sumatra and jakarta governor election as the example. These 2 election are proof that the rulling party and rulling family have no power to decide who's gonna win the election
In north sumatra election, two governor candidate are Edi Rahmayadi that supported by the oposition party against Djarot Syaiful Hidayat that supported by both rulling party and Jokowi's whole family. Edi won the election
Then in jakarta election, the two governor candidate are Anies Baswedan that supported by the oposition party against Basuki Tjahaja Purnama that supported by (again) both rulling party and jokowi's whole family. Anies won the election.
So, that means no matter what intrique happened in this election, if the voters don't like the candidate, the candidate won't win the election

It has been 9 years, we never heard anything about the First Lady being involve in any political action, not even a light gossip. However, Tempo framed Iriana Jokowi like she is the mastermind behind everything. It sounds like she is the most powerful woman in Indonesia who can control major political parties and Constitutional Court.

Historically since the kingdom of Mataram, a king's spouse is strategically an important part of their family's decision as well as the nation's though seldom unseen to the public.. Hence wife of the former Sukrno, Suharto, Susilo Yudoyono and this time the wife of Jokowi is no exception.
The process of becoming a candidate and the campaign methods are very similar to Bongbong Marcos in the Philippines, who is also controversial. As the son of the current president, and given that his father is still in office, his father utilizes state officials as part of his son campaign team. He violates constitutional ethics (his uncle being the chief of the constitutional court), collaborates with social media influencers to capture the youth vote (considering the majority of voters are from the youth demographic), and tends to avoid addressing serious questions 😢

This is a slander optic. The ruling party that initially supported both Jokowi (president) and Gibran (mayor of Solo) felt betrayed because Gibran crossed over at the last minute as election opponent.
Since then, the political party has launched massive (ultra) slander campaign to smear both Jokowi and Gibran's reputation. They are scared and tried to invalidate/annul their biggest rival even before the election.
The party chief (or rather, owner) even smeared their own candidate (Ganjar) when the people majority start noticing the former governor as a prospect. This had sparked jealousy as party chief wanted her own daughter (Puan) to run for presidency. Only after Ganjar conceded and practically knelt on his knee that they finally support him.
Such, and the fact that the party has shown their hands as "over bearing" and dominant over presidential candidate has triggered the major swing toward the other side. Including the Widodo family's allegiance.
That's the back story behind all this political noise.

To be honest as an Indonesian that's what i sometime thinks too.. If the rampant nepotism are not gonna go away, might as well revive the Monarchy. The foundation of our republic is dying since the day Soeharto taking over the presidency seat and put his children into office, since then suddenly everybody wants to put their children and grandchildren into office. Just end this miserable state of existence already, I have no faith in our politics at all.
Although that might be way cheaper rather than organizing an election, crowning jokowi's kin as the next president will scare foreign investors away as indonesia is deemed as undemocratic
