I am 70 years old and have bad knees and my hands don't work like they used to. I bought a Honda CTX with a DCT and after saying for years I would never ride an automatic bike bit I love this bike. I did have to replace the rear shock and fork springs. Sport mode is awesome. In drive I do manual shift some but in sport mode it does a great job. I have gotten 70 mpg. It's the perfect bike for me at this time in my life.
I test rode a CTX DCT that a fellow had imported into Canada a few years ago, as Honda Canada only brought in the manual CTX, and I absolutely loved it. Unfortunately the bike had been abused and he was asking too much for what it was...I would have loved to put that bike in my garage. Settled on an NC750X with the DCT...loving the fuel economy, especially right now with gas at $1.87/L. 😨
Just picked up my 700D. Absolutely awesome bike. The most user friendly bike ever made. Riding is relaxed, comfortable and fun. I had a hard time finding one.
I’m 52 years old and just started riding this year, I bought a Falcon/Venom automatic Motorcycle, cvt transmission, $3000… absolutely love it. There are videos on TH-cam
If your left hand and foot work, do yourself a favor and get a traditional manual bike for your first. It will allow you to learn properly to ride any bike out there, not just the paltry amount of automatics.
I hope we get more and more auto bikes especially in their classic designs cuz sometimes you just wanna ride anywhere in any condition without the hassle/effort of gear shifting. great for newbies too.
I’m getting my first bike ever tomorrow and it’s gonna be an automatic. It’s 250cc since it’ll be my first but I can’t wait. I was worried that all bikes were manual cause I knew nothing about them until last week so this just gave me the confidence I needed to stay on track to be on 2 wheels
Never ridden an automatic transmission bike in my life, would love to try it out during my vacation in Japan this time. Thanks for the tutorial, really helpful.
I just bought a vfr1200X... I assumed it was a manual and when I got there it was a DCT. So now I am scrambling for videos on it and surprisingly there are quite few. Thank you!
I want to get the 1200F myself, then reverse trike it. Stupid idea, but I'm disabled and a Chinese scooter didn't cut it for very long. Can-Ams are nice, but I want something that will turn heads and hang with my friend's 636.
As a new rider, I got a 650cc manual 6 speed and just can't really seem to get a hang of manual shifting. But I'm glad automatic shifting is starting to become more prevalent so I might trade in my current bike and invest in a DHC like this one
I ended up trading in my manual bike for a Honda Navi, and it makes a perfect first bike for me. I can see the CTX being a great alternative if throttle control doesnt bother you much.
Automatics look so easy to ride! It looks basically like a bicycle without pedals! I definitely would wanna get one cause I’d feel like I’d wipe out easily with manuals..
Never rode a bike but really manual shifting bike i find them a bit daunting and challening. I mean i'm looking at this video and you got no cluch no gears to change yet it behaves exactly as a motorcycle. A bike i might consider.
I'm an rbka and your video more then helped me make a decision to buy a bike. Thiers always a way to do the things I loved to do, so my next step after driving a car with hand drivers now I know I can ride a bike! Thanks
Great review! I've been checking out these DCT bikes but I'm afraid as a beginner rider it's best probably to start with manual. Things are evolving and this should get more people into biking. Pretty cool.
When you say that a manual car involves you in driving, you are reffering to about 10% of the entire journey , for the rest of the trip anybody will take an automatic for 90% of time spent behind the wheel. So, automatic for me please. (I actually own a NC 700S dct)
Ugh I wish they would make a smaller DCT motorcycle 😭 I want one because my left hip has fits when I have to move it a lot up and down I know this because when riding my dirtbike it acts up ..but every bike I look at is way to big for me and or electric I wanted gas powered but for a smaller person
This might be great for a new rider but I would never give up my gears and clutch anymore than I did in my car. I imagine this would be horrible for a dirt bike where the clutch is so necessary
It is great for what it is. It isn't a dirt bike, speed demon or trying to emulate a sports car. It is a really nice utilitarian bike and I am glad to drop the archaic need for manual shifting. It makes the whole experience better and allows new riders and those with less confidence focus on riding, looking out for safety concerns on the road and not just shifting.
Any issues with whiskey throttle? I've heard ppl losing control of a DCT bike because normally you can just squeeze the clutch to smooth out any mishap on the throttle hand, but with DCT you don't have that option so any abrupt throttle control can take you for a dangerous ride. Thoughts?
Arguably you could let off the throttle just as quickly as you could pull in the clutch, and I've never had an issue snapping the throttle too quickly. I suppose with an Africa Twin or Rebel 1100 you'd have to be more careful, but you should never be wacking the throttle on any bike. Fortunately, as a beginner bike, this one won't jump out as easily.
@@DailyMotor it tends to be that people grip the handlebar harder when the bike lurches forward, rather than be thrown off. I've been looking deeply into this as I've just spent £9500 on a used 2020 CRF1100L DCT - if your hand on the throttle with it closed is with your wrist within a few degrees of straight, maybe up to 5 degrees flexed, then if you overdo the throttle (by extending your wrist) the lurch will bring you back to straight & the throttle will come off. If you start off with your wrist flexed all the way down, then the forward lurch will keep the throttle wide open as you struggle to control the bike. A good idea is to rest a finger or two on the brake so that's available in case you need it. I'd add though, beware of panicking & grabbing the brake as that'll dump you if you're not careful. Subtlety & smoothness in all things.
Im more and more in love with motorcycle and I’m going to learn how to ride it. I’m going to get me a bike as as I save the money and I’m debating on Automatic or Manual..
No more aciddental engine stalls from letting the clutch go too fast, but it must be a little cautious when pulling the front break because you might pull the throttle a little, causing an uninteded burnout and falling on your side.
When someone is taking the motorcycle safety course i know they supply bikes for beginners but what I'm wondering is are all the bikes manual or can you request a automatic bike
Many bikers will condescendingly laugh at you and say "there isn't one" but the real answer is "Power, handling, style and range. Otherwise there really isn't much difference. Just a more complicated version of a scooter." However, if cruisers and sports bikes are fundamentally different kinds of bikes because of function and styling, automatic motorcycles are just that, motorcycles that are a little easier to ride, than the "normal" motorcycles. Personally, I think these are probably going to be the future of bikes, as they allow a wider range of people to ride bikes, and the market follows the money. Most people don't want to learn how to drive a manual car, much less something that's inherently more dangerous, and a little more complex to get the hang of. This solves half that problem. I'm looking at getting a rebel 1100 JUST because it has the DCT and I like the styling and it's something my wife might actually try to ride because it's so easy.
Scooters traditionally have a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). Unlike the DCT which has 6 distinct gears, a CVT functions using a single belt and a variable diameter pulley and gives no distinct gear change feedback....just an audible change in rpms.

That's funny, that was a very similar situation to ours! Just make sure there's oil in it, and if you buy it, change the oil right away.
