That was a great step-by-step tutorial on the replacement of the fuel pump and filter. That pump looks pretty snug and probably the special tool would be a good idea to have for this job. Nice work Thomas!

When it fails to start we give it a shot of starting fluid and it starts then quits. Give it another shot of starting fluid and will stay running. We are now changing out the 219 relay and the fuel pump relay. I feel the fuel pump is intermittent??????? But my Mechanic thinks not. great video, have watched a lot of your videos already with the problems i've had with my audi a4 b8 which you videos have already helped, not sure if your still replying to comments but worth a shot. I have intermittent start issue - if left for days then go to start it takes a few seconds to start (around 10 seconds). But if i leave it only for a few hours it starts first time, no performance issues or driving issues just that first start when left for a long time. My colleague at work scanned the car for codes, nothing came up. He thinks its the valve that you mention briefly in this video, he thinks fuel is bleeding back to the tank so it takes longer to start when left for longer. Where do i look? i thought it was the fuel pump/filter but because of no other issues makes me think hes right,
Hi... yes, it could be that fuel is bleeding back into the fuel tank. Have you tried to cycle the key a few times (before trying to start the engine) to prime the fuel pump / system? Cycle the key ON/OFF maybe 5 times (wait 10 seconds between each cycle, you should hear the fuel pump run for 1 to 2 seconds each time) and then try to start the engine. If the engine starts quicker, then "loss of prime" was the issue. Thank you for watching!
@@EXOVCDS damn that was quick reply, still watching your other videos haha, yes already done this i think it primes when opening the door as you can hear it? but yes done this test and it does then start. What part/parts should i be looking at?

Have you ever come across an b6 a4 1.8T quattro with a return full line? I saw how you capped that part of the new fuel pump and you said only the fwd models use that line. I have a A4 2002 quattro and for some reason mine has a return line, which is screwing me up because now I don't know now if I should cap it or plug the line in. If you can shed some light on that please, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
Don't cap anything off... use all lines that are on your car. I haven't watched this video since posting it. Title says 3.0L... if yours is a 1.8t, that would explain why things are different. If the sending unit does not have enough fittings to accomodate all the lines that are on your car... then the sending unit is not the correct one for your car.

Yes. Relay #1 in relay panel under driver dash. Fuse 28 is fed power by the relay for the pump. Fuse holder in left side of dash. A service manual is worth the investment.
I have an 04 and they removed the return line in the engine bay and I was having fuel pump/delivery problems. I did the timing belt recently and shortly after I was getting 172/174 errors running too rich. I was concerned that maybe my timing was off and causing it to run rich. So, I decided to look into my fuel pressure first and it was running at 100PSI constantly, lol. Turned out the internal regulator in the filter was blown. I used Mahle filter when I replaced the OEM less than 2 years ago and it didn't last long at all. I have since replaced it with a Kayser and all is well and the codes went away. Do you have any experience with the suction jet pump in the passenger side of the fuel tank? My car has stalled on me when it gets < 1/4 tank of gas.
