      We could all be a lot better if Europe wasn’t such an unhelpful area at forcing the manufacturers to give us proper wiring information and systems education. The Americans have Mitchel wiring diagrams-what do we have -Autodata that is (a)unviably priced for most small garages and (b) often incomplete and unreliable on individual cars and doesn’t even cover many common cars and not all systems on the ones it does cover. The trade is a shambles and it’s the public that are suffering because of the poor governance of manufacturers

  • @Garth2011
    @Garth2011 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Way to be Dan. Following logic with a few scanners and scopes vs. guessing and moving forward. Confirming the diagnosis was very cool by blocking off the fuel line on #2.
    At first, when you ran the starter I thoughtr for sure it had a mechanical failure, a valve or connecting rod. I even was thinking the high pressure fuel pump lobe or rod might have been damaged causing the high amp draw on the starter/battery (if thats how the hipress fuel pump operated). Being a 2017, I'd likely go with 5 other injectors but due to their cost, if they tested okay, I'd run them again. Good fix Dan.

    Very good job Dan removing the glow plugs!
    As a worker who works with injectors many mechanics bring in injectors for inspection to find out that fault,you did it yourself! That's so good!
    This happens because of dirty, sticky fuel in injectors, the "hydraulics" as we call them, get stuck and then all the pressure just passes through it.
    Have you checked the fuel filter to see if it has small shiny aluminum parts, so maybe the pump has started to fail?

    • @SeanBZA
      @SeanBZA ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also can occur if the owner put truck or agricultural diesel in, because that is high sulphur, and not great for the precision parts of the fuel system. Similar if you run illuminating paraffin or heating oil, or recycled cooking oil that has been sold as biodiesel.

    Dan, excellent tip on watching current draw during the crank cycle. Ask you correctly indicated, the starter was doing more work while cranking one of the cylinders during compression.
    E x I = P or W, the more work you do, the more current you draw from the power supply. Measuring current can give you a vast amount of information. Thank you for the video excellent job.

    It's so true that pumps connected in series will effect each other. The low side pumps sets the suction pressure of the high side which takes the pressure up from there at a certain ratio. If the supply (suction side) pump doesn't provide enough pressure, enough volume, then the high side pump will not be able to deliver as much pressure / volume.

    Hmm, could that hydrolocking have made some damage on the conrods or valves 🤔. Engine sounds healthy but than again it's hard to distinguish bad noises on diesel engines.
    Dan, I'm wondering if you could help me, if not I'll understand..
    I'm driving Skoda Fabia mk2, 1.2htp 51kw (VW notorious 3 cylinder engine)
    and it's acting strange or to be precise: on cold start engine is holding rpm around 1100-1200 and it's happening only when outside temperature is between 20 and 30 Celsius. When coolant temp reaches around 40C rpms drop to a normal 800+. On diag scan no fault codes..
    I own that car past 10 yrs and this "problem" started to occur in last few months, otherwise cold rpms has always been around 900.
    Been in few workshops (one of them was main dealer), but they told me "dont worry, drive it like that", without any reasonable explanation. One of technician changed coolant temp sensor but no luck, problem stayed.. So Dan could you point me in any direction where to look.
    If anyone else have idea what it could be, I'd appreciate a lot..

    Can you look at the desired and actual high pressure to see if an injector is leaking? I use that test with GDI engines. Run the car until it is fully warmed up turn it off, turn it back on again, and monitor the high pressure actual value. The pressure should go up by at least 10 bar due to the fuel boiling in the rail. If it goes down you have a leaky injector!

    That’s what gets me someone that is not qualified tells you something and you take his word yet the smart guy clears the fault codes, WHY?¿ This is why is technicians hate taking things from someone else’s hands after being fiddled with.

    So , why there isn't any diesel coming out of the other cylinders since they got injectors and are open too ? They were plugged , right ?
