@@Tokru86 In theory, that makes sense but the boss usually has attacks that hit everyone at once while doing crazy amounts of damage, inflicting status effects, & sometimes having random crits & the ability to summon allies.
Shadow Queen was terrible about that in Paper Mario 2. She'd attack twice & summon 2 hands in the same turn & the hands would immediately attack too. It was very easy for her to end the fight in one turn.

I hate in racing games like the need for speeds when your winning and the games just like "ohh no you don't" and the AI just fly past you like your not moving. And it's usually about 90% of the way through the race so you have to start all over again

Also when they have every car in traffic purosefully change lanes/turn just to get in your way.
I get the game has to be a challenge.. But it's ruined if its not realistic. Not that games need to be REAL, but there's no way that every car is going to get in your way or be able to pass you when you were previously going top speed.

I think Forza and GT Sport have the best racing game AI. I only really have experience with Forza but heard good things about GT AI. I like that I can beat "Pro" Forza AI and their fastest AI are called "UNBEATABLE" but are in fact beatable, and there's no "catch-up" mechanic which is usually the culprit for rubberbanding AI. From my experience the Forza AI difficulty levels just set the AI lap times to a certain average, so if I'm 2 seconds a lap faster than the fastest car, I know I can turn my difficulty up for some close racing.

However the player receiving more damage per hit means that they have less mistakes to make and it fits the break neck pace and 100 decisions a minute game design, and finally it makes the AI super aggressive and unrelenting meaning the players have to move around the arena and be on top of everything to keep goin’ and it’s exhilarating.

back in the ps2 era that was standard practice because of having to cut-corners due to memory constraints and not to mention the technology was still struggling to gain enough memory, clock speed, and hell in the early-early days when the console was first launched; we didn't even have graphics cards; we were still using 3D accelerator cards and voodoo 1, 2, or the new voodoo 3 card if you were seriously rich.
heck 3DFX and 3D graphix were some of the hottest new things back then. sure it was polygonal as all the nine hells but it was cutting edge for the time.
nowadays ye can get away with fewer polygons and just use mesh effects to weave a picture into a complex overlay on top of the polygonal form. I.E: giving characters color, shape, texture, and fine details when it finally renders.

A good simple fix would be a "chaos factor" to dampen their accuracy. Most of the time firing is based on something called raycasting, where basically the game draws a line between the gun and a point being aimed at, but the AI can track a moving target with perfect accuracy.
You could just simulate accuracy when they fire using the distance the AI is firing and the range of the gun they're using, and then calculate that chaos factor to cause a slightly randomized change in the raycast determining where the bullet goes.

It's more than that, it's that the numbers ultimately don't mean anything, in Diablo for example, it boils down to to numbers but you can feel progression in ability as you go. In the division series, which I feel is the poster child of this issue, is you can stack up bonuses get high-quality gear and it would work literally the same on every mission, there's no sense of getting stronger there is no sense you are a super agent trying to save a nation when the only way to get a leg up is to have an obsessive knowledge of the games mechanics. At that point you should find a new game.

Fully agree on puzzle handling. It's so easy for developers to forget how little sense a puzzle makes to someone who doesn't already know the solution, and sometimes they screw up by not thinking of potentially more logical answers or reasoning that completely undermine the intended solution.
One difficulty I felt was severely mixed was the first Lost Planet. It did some COOL stuff for harder difficulties, like making enemies significantly larger, adding more of them to the level, and even making you fight two of the boss.
However, it also throws in severe heat depletion which is literally a time limit slowly creeping up on you the whole time you're playing. On any normal setting, it's not a big deal, as you can build up a lot of heat from killing enemies and scavenging heat sources so it's not a problem, but they went overkill on increasing the rate of depletion such that it just feels unwinnable. Enemies could have been made to give huge amounts of heat, but they just give the same amount as always, or very close to it, making it deplete just as much as you gain in the time it takes to shoot one down, even if you're pretty quick about it.

1:49 ultimately, most of the time timers on games make them less fun, either you have to rush so you can't enjoy exploration or even core aspects of the game all that much or it's a "fake" timer like in Lightning Returns where it rushes you for no reason since in reality you have all the time in the world (apparently most just fast forward the last day cause they already did everything doable). I ended up playing on easy because the timer worried me so much but even only using starting gear there was so little challenge I lost interest in the game and only because of a mechanic that brings nothing to the table and should have been fully story driven so that completing the main story is the only thing advancing the timer and you cannot run out of time even if you afk a week.

Aside game mechanics, what I'm really tired is with the players that will always find ways to make you feel inferior to them, cause you were suppose to accept that "challenge" that is in the game. You know, the kind that say "get gud".
Or those that talk about how games are fun, but when they share their playthrough, they are constantly cussing, getting annoyed, frustrated and even destructive. I mean, you are masochist, fine, but don't deny it! =P

i hear ya. we should all be able to play games at our own pace, if other people prefer harder modes, i'm all for it, i just wish they didn't put down those who can't, or even just don't really want to. its why i don't play Souls-Bourne games, i don't like the challenge that set forth, but sadly too many games are utilizing that style of combat difficulty now cause its "trendy"

    • @Alexia-ys6yx

I don't even understand where that mindset comes from. The whole "Hard mode is the only real mode" argument is just...so without any reason.
Because, how can one difficulty setting, or mode be wrong, while others are right? They're all in the game made by the devs afterall. (Obviously this only applies to games that have a difficulty setting)

    • @professorbaxtercarelessdre1075
      @professorbaxtercarelessdre1075 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Alexia-ys6yx who knows, i think alot of people just have ideas in their head about how things should be, and don't like it when others don't do as them.
like, some people think when you play scrabble you should be allowed to see hint words beforehand, or whatever, and others think you shouldn't, cause its all about the challenge.
or how some people think you should never use strategy guides when playing a game, others think you should, at least when you're really stuck.

One of the recent examples of trial and error is The Medium, which frankly pissed me off. All the "Crash Bandicoot" run away sequences are impossible to finish, unless you do the perfect run, which means dodging/rotating the exact same second this opportunity comes. Not to mention the one shot mechanic the game has that made these moments especially annoying.

One of the games I had the terrible random crashing/bugging out is Skyrim. I mean, you can just leave a building and your follower just decides to stay behind because they're next to a chair or something clipping their path to the door. I once had to restart because my follower got stuck somewhere and I didn't notice until multiple auto saves later. I couldn't find them and had to start over, and didn't know that this was a common glitch at the time. It's not a difficulty mechanic, but it is something tne game failed to ever fix even on the special edition remaster.
