You are still on the fireOS android build just with a different launcher, some apps removed, and the play store installed. Which is fine but on the fire 7, at least the ford model which is what I personally have, you can fully wipe the device and install lineage os on it, and even upgrade it to android 7 via lineage os where fireOS on it only goes up to android 5, so you can get a lot more apps and its much faster without the amazon bloat, even in 2024 the fire 7 can still handle video watching and simple games pretty well!

*TIP* : how to factory reset without going to settings if you want a device to power on (but it will erase its data) power off the device if it's already powered off hold the power button and hold the volume buttons at the same time after you see a logo then select factory reset then you can factory reset it yay
Best use of these tablets is to trade into Samsung when they have a good any tablet trade in, I used a 2012 Amazon kindle fire to put towards a Tab S9 and got a £250 discount

a year ago i bought an used 2016 Sasmung tab for 50 usd. for reading manga and watching videos it's still amazing.
Android tablets would be a treasure trove of computing if Android software wasn't so, so bad.
google lock is indeed very easy to bypass, most of the time!
the only ones that are a major ballache are ones that have no fastboot mode or anything whatsoever, sometimes need soldering to testpoints in those cases

it really depends on the device if you can bypass icloud/google lock, that ipad should be old enough for some bypass method to work

with that ipad mini you can probably get around the icloud lock by changing the serial number in purple mode with something like magic cfg you can buy serial number sets, only works for wifi only models but on some wifi + mobile models you can remove a resistor to convert it into a wifi model and change serial also. i dont think icloud locks are a good thing it doesn't stop people stealing devices and just ruins the used market because a lot of devices that goto recycling centers because they are broken will not have the icloud removed so if youre buying devices to repair and sell on a lot will have icloud locks. the only people it really benefits is apple by keeping devices off the used market

you probably can bypass the google lock on the TCL, it depends on the model but there are ways to bypass it.
You can do that with i pad too. It will uninstall the os and you will have to reinstall it

On android you may have been able to bypass google activation lock at some point, but nowadays (at least to my knowledge) it's not really possible. However you can factory reset a non google locked device and use it just fine (unlike apple who won't let you use the device even if it's not in stolen mode).
i grew up on these cheap kindle tablets and instantly recognised them

This has been bothering me the whole time, the fire 7 *already is running android*
The toolkit installed google play store, play services and a launcher that replaces the fire launcher, and maybe temoves the stock amazon apps but im not positive on that, it does not install android because ots already running android
the toolkit removes all of the bloat which a fire tablets has and installs Google Play and Google Play Store.
The toolkit also allows complete control of what you’d like to debloat from the tablet. So all you have is a barebones Android tablet with the play store and nothing custom FireOS.. Which as I mentioned I find quite annoying myself.
@@johnzoid74 it's still wrong to say "it installs android" it's already running android. It uninstalls Amazon's bloat and installs a different launcher, this is not the same as installing android. It's just a pet peeve that bothered me the whole video. It would be like saying you are installing windows on a Dell laptop because you removed all the Dell bloat, it already had windows.
However, on some of these fire tablets you can install an android ROM. I don't think these ever got lineage, but some of them did get CyanogenMod. This process is more like replacing Windows vista with windows 7 as a clean install

Jon, didn't you know that you can factory reset an android tablet that's been locked? I did it years ago on an old tablet where I'd forgotten the PIN. I bet you can do it on an iPad, too. Also, go learn Portuguese for your wife and start a Portuguese channel. TH-cam is huge in Brazil! Portuguese is easy! E muito legal. (and it's very cool.)
iPads are quite locked down to iCloud if still logged in like in this video unfortunately

Some people desolate the storage chip and reprogram the serial number to something that is not locked
Unfortunately this is one of the newer android devices which has FRP, it will ask your old lock screen PIN post-factory-reset or your previous signed in google account if it wasn't signed out before the reset. It's not too difficult to bypass that though.
