I finally realized that TerminalMontage Video where Geno travels with Rosalina to stop the Speeddemon, that connection is very well made
The whole thing is so well made. On Luigi's conspiracy board there's a sticky note theorizing that Rosa is Luigi's daughter from the future, a reference to a game theory. There is so much packed into that video.

The “XXX “ is most likely some sort of stash of alcoholic beverages as “XXX” also is used to represent alcohol in old cartoons. Considering Peach being royalty it would not be too odd for her to have a little stash, and that is proven further with Super Mario Kart’s JP version having her and Bowser chugging some sort of beer/wine when winning.
Type "xxx" into google with safe search off and I assure you alcohol won't be your top results.

I really don't understand why Nintendo and Square don't get together again to make a proper sequel. Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler seem to be doing okay, I don't see why they can't split off SMRPG into its own timeline and just pick up after the end of the first game, same setting, same characters.

@@Maker1 I feel that Peach having a box of sex items would make the most sense in the context of the Japanese Text being XXX. XXX could also be a connotation associated with Alcohol. So, Peach having a Stach of Sex Items, and a bottle of Wine, could imply that throughout this toxic love triangle she got stuck in for years, until the end of Super Mario Odyssey, her hormones get frustrated, and she needs this tension to be relieved. She definitely loves Mario, but she hated that Bowser had to ruin any romantic moment between her and Mario, especially at the end of Odyssey.
You missed the obscure secret of losing to the "Apprentice" Snifit at Booster Pass so that it gets recruited into Booster's team. You can do this up to 4 times I believe.

I wish Secret of Mana aged a little better, it was amazing as a kid but replaying it recently, it felt pretty thin. SMRPG however, still feels timeless and amazing.

Boshi or Yoshi would have been really cool. I always thought the Party menu seemed incomplete with only 5 slots out of 6 used.
SMRPG is my favorite game of all time, my memories playing it are some of my fondest. Need to replay it again, I used to every year or so, but its been a few years now
Boshi as an optional character you can unlock by beating him in a race just makes so much sense imo.

It would have been cool, but the 6th character was most likely planned to be Luigi. There is more evidence for it being Luigi then any of the others. Some of Johnny's dialog in the game makes you think that it might have been him as well, so I guess that makes him the 2nd most likely. However, there is no evidence at all that would lead you to believe it would have been anyone else, except for perhaps Croco since he eventually warms up to you and helps you out at the tail end of the game. But most of the theorized 6th members probably would have been made playable if the game was large enough. I'm sure there just wasn't enough space on the cartridge to include everyone they may have originally wanted to include.
On the note of Mario being a bellhop, it I'd actually beneficial. Some of the guests will leave FP tips as flower tabs, jars and boxes. Or even frog coins rarely.
This was my favorite place to take a break in the game and just chill. You can grind and get your MP up
One interesting fact is that the boss fight with Exor, he is not immune to Geno's 9999 Geno Whirl (when timed correctly). The only other boss character that's also not immune is a Yaridovich clone

Well, apparently pre-orders of the remake have actually outdone Tears of the Kingdom, so hopefully it's almost guaranteed massive success means we'll finally get a true sequel. My only concern is how much of the former Squaresoft dev team will come back for it, because only the original composer was involved in the remake. While that doesn't hinder my excitement or make it any less likely that I'll buy the remake, I am a bit disappointed in Nintendo for not getting more of the original team involved.
I think that most people have this idea that Nintendo and Squaresoft worked together on the original game, like it was a 50/50 kind of thing. That's not at all the case. It was more like 90/10 at best, with Squaresoft being the 90%. Nintendo simply let them use their characters, otherwise they just kind of looked over the game as it was being developed. They let Square know what the boundaries were with their characters. For example, Square originally planned for the characters to wield your typical RPG weapons such as swords, axes, bows ect., but Nintendo didn't want that because they felt (and rightly so) that it just didn't fit with the Mario universe. It was too violent for Mario, so they decided to have the weapons be objects found in other Mario games (hammers, shells) as well as other much more tame and unconventional things (sticks, gloves, frying pan.)
People always say that Geno is the only character who "doesn't follow suit" (referring to his character aura being a star)
But the star actually stands for the joker.

@@Maker1 yeah, ff7 was my first squaresoft game, we got 8 then 9 then went backwards down to one - me and my brother, we had shared files on the old memory card so we agreed to only play final fantasy together - these games are quite important to me so I genuinely respect the work your putting in
Only now as a man I did an emulator on my phone and cleared Mario rpg as I didn't know about it as a kid.... I gotta say, it was a masterpiece
The only thing that probably stings more than Nintendo's pride during that time when they lost Squaresoft to their competitor is that if they gave them the improved hardware they needed they would have released one of the most successful and genre defining JRPGs ever made. Woolie and Pat's continued insistence on calling them the "Nintendosaurus" will always be relevant. We love grandpa Nintendo but he's a bit... stubborn.

There's some references to classical music in Mario RPG. Toadofsky at Tadpole Pond seems to be a reference to the musician Tchaikovsky. French Suite No. 1 by Bach, sounds like Valentina's Castle. Spring Movement No. 1 by Vivaldi sounds like it inspired the Mushroom Kingdom song ("Hello, Happy Kingdom"). A part of "Queen of the Night aria" by Mozart sounds like "Got A Star Piece".
Its because of this game that I developed a love and appreciation of the baroque. I ain't kidding.
I loved everything about this video and the thumbnail art is superb, you’ve earned my subscribe! The most surprising fact is the parallel between the Axem Rangers and Mario’s Team, Zombie Mallow, the Pyschopath Readings, The extra possible 6th Party Member and the Confusion and Berserk Status Ailments. I could go on and on, Super Mario RPG is such an epic game full of charm and love, the Easter Eggs like Culex, Samus, Link, F-Zero and Starfox Machines make it EVEN MORE EPIC, I almost gasped in excitement when you showed what looked to be a SMRPG Remake at 18:05 Bowser’s Weapons being Corpses.

I definitely always thought Johnny was supposed to be the 6th character. There was wording in the guide that made me think he was supposed to at least help you in the fight with Yaridovich.

Bowser's chain chomp weapon is alive. When he throws a critical hit, it chomps on the enemy itself, implying its alive.
On the one hand, the 'Chomp' found in Booster's Tower and the 'Chomp Shell' bought from the shop in the Marrymore hotel, are two completely separate weapons. On the other hand, they both use literally the same animation; with, as you pointed out, the chomping animation. These things are clearly meant to be alive.
Pretty sure "Toadstool's XXX" is supposed to be a sex toy, most probably the Vibe Scepter later used in Super Princess Peach
I believe SPP basically referenced the XXX, now dubbing it the Vibe Scepter as a joke. Remember, the game DOES say:
"Your mom's been laughing happily a lot? Maybe... Just maybe... the Vibe Scepter is hidden away in your house somewhere..."
for one, the Vibe Scepter is meant to mean "vibes" as in "mood"... although, it is hard to deny that the name has some odd implications, especially combined with that specific quote, lmao (heads are all up in the gutter, and i'm no better)
and also, i'm not perfectly versed in Japanese text stuff, but i _Think_ that "XXX" is an equivalent to "???", just something that's mysterious
however, here in the west it's inevitably interpreted as horny, or, in the rarest cases, that one action movie with what's-his-face
i suppose plenty of SNES RPGs did have some raunchier stuff that got censored outside of Japan, so maybe it definitely is Peach's "Vibe Scepter" but we're just never gonna hear the truth, lol

But I think the strangest part of the whole thing is that her 'Grandma' is in on it. I mean, I don't tell Kammy where I keep my... inspirational materials, or my 'toys.' That's just awkward...

@@Maker1 it's kind of sad that it'll only ever be a headcanon, but it does kinda elevate Geno for me to think about.
Up until now, I though he was overhyped, being overshadowed in every aspect by items or the other switchable characters (he beats Mario in usefullness to me, but we can't swap Mario out, so Geno is bottom of the ranks). Now he's got a cooler backstory, even if he is lackluster mechanically
@@mistahl5350 hes literally better then all the other party members until mario gets the lazy shell. Honestly I'd say bowser is the worst party member since his main difference from the others are his high defenses but you get him shortly before you get peach who can constantly heal. So at that point just put peach on the team and you don't really need a tank.
@@slitchey3166 properly equipped and leveled, Bowser's high hp and defenses makes it so he doesn't need healing every round, compared to the glass cannon that is Geno. Either way, yeah having Peach is easy mode, but that's not the point here.
He's overshadowed by everyone in one way or another with the general exception of Mario (Lazy Shell does change that). Bowser has higher attack and defense, Mallow has a higher magic attack and a good variety of damage types (Geno may be comparable in actual damage since his attacks are stronger than Mallow's, but he isn't as strong a mage) and the ability to heal, Peach's Mg att blows his out of the water and has all of her great spells. I'm not saying he's a bad character by any means, he's just overshadowed by the other swappable party members.
Geno Boost is the only real useful spell on his list to me, and even then, you can buy party wide buffing items that take less time to use, so that's overshadowed too. His spells all look cool, I'll give him that, but others do a better job with them.
@@mistahl5350 I heavily disagree with almost all of that. Bowser only has slightly higher base attack than geno and I'm pretty sure his best weapon increases his attack by the least. Mallows healing becomes basically useless once you get peach because her healing is so much better. Also in terms of peaches magic att being better than genos, it's not. She only gets one attacking special and it's the final special she gets and it costs 15 fp to use. Her healing as is said is op though. Geno is basically the best of both worlds for bowser and mallow. Bowser has high attack and defenses but his specials aren't very good. Mallow has good special attack but poor physical attack and worse physical defense then geno. Geno has high physical and magic attack plus he's the fastest member of the party in exchange for less physical defense than Bowser and less magic defense than mallow.
This is so cool, I just finished this game two days ago on the mini super version, this is really something, loved the game and the video. ❤

Yeah geno is a luma, something I figured out to be cannon or at least could be cannon to Mario lore after playing Mario galaxy for the first time and when the luma who had traveled with Mario the whole time was in fact the same start warrior that inhabited the geno puppet in MRPG. Mario gives a look to the star buddy as if he is a past friend and that gesture is bitter sweet in the end.
17:15 - This is referring to The Emperor's New Clothes. - "Two swindlers arrive at the capital city of an emperor who spends lavishly on clothing at the expense of state matters. Posing as weavers, they offer to supply him with magnificent clothes that are invisible to those who are stupid or incompetent. The emperor hires them, and they set up looms and go to work. A succession of officials, and then the emperor himself, visit them to check their progress. Each sees that the looms are empty but pretends otherwise to avoid being thought a fool. Finally, the weavers report that the emperor's suit is finished. They mime dressing him and he sets off in a procession before the whole city. The townsfolk uncomfortably go along with the pretense, not wanting to appear inept or stupid, until a child blurts out that the emperor is wearing nothing at all. The people then realize that everyone has been fooled. Although startled, the emperor continues the procession, walking more proudly than ever."

I love this game, it's been over a decade since I played it last but I always had a good time with it and it's one of the best Mario games ever made imo. Such a shame Geno is Squenix's, he was one of the best parts and I'd love to see him in more Mario games. Oh well!

The machine made black axem ranger is most likely thinking "will I make the team" implying that either he assumes he will be defeated in that current battle (where you're reading his mind) or that the myriad of machine made Axems must try out for the final team. That is a more likely assumption than the original Black Axem Ranger was not an official member. Just saying
The Bowser victory motion was most likely supposed to be him grabbing his bicep. A sign of him flaunting his strength. But yes. It very much looked like the "up yours" sign and was probably a good idea to have it changed. Although the double fist pump should have been replaced with the bodybuilder bicep flex ( 💪 with both arms) if they wanted to show a different strength pose. But what we got wasn't horrible. I guess it could've been worse. I think Bowser had issues with his victory pose during the original Mario Kart as well. I remember someone had a problem with their pose, but it may have been someone else. Just let Bowser offend people. Wouldn't that be more canon? Lol
I guess to prove that last bit, about Mario's dream, we need an official Mario timeline like they did with the Zelda series. Lol. Because Super Mario Bros 3 for NES would have to be either toward the very end or very beginning because of the whole "it's a play" concept. It would mean that either they all end up as friendly enough to put on a play together depicting their struggles and adventures or that they started out as friendly and were an acting troupe prior to becoming bitter enemies. Either way seeing an official timeline for Mario games would be neat. The whole thing would start with Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island for sure though. As you can't really get earlier than that with actual Mario titles. Any game prior to that one would probably be a Yoshi title instead. But since it's the same timeline overall, you could probably include all the Mario cast in this timeline and it would still be very interesting. I've often wanted to do a timeline run of the Zelda series in chronological order and if they made an official timelije for Mario I could do one for that series too. Anyway just an interesting thought
The biggest flaw with the dream theory though is that in the little scene where it shows Mario dreaming the events of Super Matio Bros 2, Mario is wearing a sleeping cap (like in olden days, but I seriously don't even know why those ever even existed. Lol). Who puts a cap like that (or possibly PJs assuming he is wearing those too with his sleeping cap) on a person with a head injury? Which was the inciting incident during Super Mario RPG that knocked Mario out. That's the only thing that makes me shrug off this one as wishful thinking, but it would be neat if Nintendo did release an official timeline to confirm the order of the games. Because they could override everything by actually confirming it to be canon instead of speculative theorizing. Fun to think about though

I loved this game. I've always hated that they went the Paper Mario route. The Paper Mario games aren't BAD, per se, but Legend of the Seven Stars just has a MUCH better story with a MUCH more epic scope than "rescue the princess". This game also gave the world Geno (who sadly hasn't been in basically anything since...), Mallow, and the fantastic music, from the Rose Forest maze to the cloud land and the Axem remix of the Mario underground theme. It's a crying shame that Nintendo and Squaresoft had their falling out, considering this was basically a Kingdom Hearts level crossover game/story a decade before Kingdom Hearts. This was also the first RPG I ever played, if I remember right.

16:45 - I'm not sure what character would have jump and Therapy, though. MAYBE Yoshi sort of like Frog/Glenn from Chrono Trigger? I could see some kind of "lick wounds" being equivalent to Therapy, and obviously Yoshi is as prolific a jumper as Mario. Luigi seems an odd choice in that he's not typically shown to have a wider array of skills than Mario, and that's a pretty wide skillset. Of course, those skills could also have been placeholders given the dummy status. Would be interesting to look at the ID# of the originals to see if they were just "lowest ID# abilities" thrown in as placeholders or not. Too bad we'll never really have an answer since a 6th party member was likely scrapped early on and so the Devs wouldn't even likely remember now what they might have considered there.
18:16 - I'm not sure "corpse" is accurate. Note it says "empty shell". For some animals, like a turtle, the shell IS part of the body that removal of means death of the creature. But there are also creatures that molt over time when their former exoskeleton becomes too small as they need to outgrow it/grow a new, larger one. Kind of like people buying new shoes when their kid's feet have outgrown the old ones. In this case, it could just be the molted shell, similar to how insects and reptiles (like snakes) shed their old skins? Which would make sense, as Chain Chomps being made of metal probably have outer shells like crabs or something that become hard and so wouldn't grow, instead needing to be shed and replaced. ...that said, don't Bowser's weapons nibble/chomp things when you get the timing right? Seems not to be all that empty...
20:50 - Geno is a warrior just using the doll Geno so he can fight in this world. He's clearly not machined, as he outright says he's a warrior from the Star Road who was sent to figure out what's going on and help repair the Star Road. Being connected to Rosilina could be true, though...
22:30 - Eh, I could see that. Sort of like the idea that Link's Awakening takes place during Zelda 2's boat sequence. I'm not sure if I agree or not, as I THINK it's implied in Mario 2 that all four playable characters are in a sort of shared dream and that, while it IS a dream, the dream world is "real" in its way (sort of like the astral plane being a "real" place in a lot of fiction and being where dreams take place). So in that sense, it was "real" while ALSO a dream. But yeah, interesting idea. Although, technically speaking, it could happen literally ANY time Mario has ever slept...

I mean, Super Paper Mario involved Mario having to stop a guy from destroying all of reality. Peach was kidnapped at the beginning, but she becomes a party member as soon as chapter 2.
Eh, maybe for PM, SS, CS and TOK, but TTYD has comparatively well-written characters and a narrative full of mystery and twists.
And then there's Super Paper Mario, and well, I'm sorry but that's the greatest narrative in the Mario franchise, second to none.

It appears again in Mario and Luigi Bowser's inside story. And like in SMRPG Mario works with Bowser at least Luigi is there this time.
I always just looked at peach not denying she was bowser jr's mama as peach being dumb as bricks. But I guess I never saw her as very intelligent given she can't seem to go a week without getting kidnapped again despite being a princess with easily enough coins to hire an elite guard 😂

I find it strange that people always seem to link Geno's Higher Authority to Rosalina, wheras it would make much more sense to assume that he's talking about the Star Spirits from Paper Mario, since they are deeply connected to granting wisher as the Star Road in SMRPG is.

Ok I'm gonna rephrase it, Squaresoft died when some of their original members left i.e Hironobu Sakaguchi, Nobuo Uematsu. I'm well aware of the reasons why the company merge with enix. Leaving Tetsuya Nomura and the results are overly convoluted Kingdom Hearts (i enjoyed this game as well even tho i was just lazy and filled with corporate greed) and them some. This is just my honest opinion.

She's skeptical at the least, & later in the game, Bowser Jr. admits he knows Peach isn't really his mother, implying he was never being honest claiming Peach was his mother to begin with. For example, he may have done it as an excuse to fight Mario, since he also says at the end that he wants to fight that Mario again. Plus, between that & the species difference, I think Peach being confused at this claim of a child she just met makes as much sense as denial. Plus, Shigeru likes keeping the Mario games's stories simple. So I doubt he intended those to be interpreted as loose ends for people to guess if there is a blood relation.

I place Super Mario Bros 2 in with Mario 64. When Mario is idle for too long and exclaims, "Im-a tired" and than proceeds to fall asleep😴;essentially ANYWHERE, that's when Super Mario Bros 2 begins.
As I remember there actually is a reward you can get for playing beetlemania. You have to get a really high score. I forgot what the reward is but I remember it being worth the trouble when I was a kid.
