I'm not 100% convinced the clickers on this bike do anything at all 😎 Back the rebound off a bit and send it, I don't wanna lose any of the gains I made in the compression
Did it 18 months ago on my Crf - went up 5 weight and plus 10% volume - did fork seals at same time, same as you josh - again no issues!! 7000 kms of dirt later still no issues - stopped the excessive front end dive on braking too...
Hey Josh, not quite as budget as your solution but a while back I had ridden some wet clay and once I cleaned it, unknowingly got grit inside a fork seal which created a leak. So as part of a service, I visited Motorcyclebiz down near Newcastle and he serviced my forks but also put a 5mm preload spacer in, plus increased my compression stack, which basically gave me the equivalent of about ten extra clicks of range. Cost about $400 but that's all I've considered to be needed as I was also bottoming out my forks alot with the crash bars on and their added weight plus my 100kg fat ass on the back. For the rear, the clickers are pretty much maxxed along with the preload, but I'm absolutely satisfied with this combo for my style of riding which isn't much short of yours Hope that helps anyone else reading along.
Thanks for the info mate, I'm definitely keen on doing some pre-load spacers as well, that's one other super cheap thing we can do. Static sag seems pretty excessive on my front end, as you say crash bars and all that shit don't help the situation. Cheers ✌
Hi Josh, I just took my bike to Glen Echo motorcross park, had a blast and rode pretty much every track and trail on my T7, and yeah that bottoming out noise was crazy, i found it was my front fender hitting my crash bars under the headlight, and no I do not want to spend 4 k on forks either. Thanks for that. So much fun to see the moto guys look at you when you turn up on a bike that is double the weight of theirs! Love your vids mate. Will from N brissy.
@@MVDBR You would be fine, I have seen your vids...the only track that was scary was the one moto track with the huge sharp edged jumps. Would be fun to ride Mt Mee together in the new year.
Good fair honest tip.Nothing wrong with experimenting using common sense.I always have to check my bikes when they come back from a service as the chains are normally too tight and out of alignment etc.Do what you think will work and it normally works.cheers.
Yeah in my limited experience you gotta make a significant change for it to make any difference mate don't go half arsed 😁 No worries Steve all good info in case you decide to get a T7 one day... 😉🙈
Good tip, that's what she said! 🤣 Easy as pie eh 🤔 Glad you're experiment has been a success brother, another bonus for T7 pilots doing this on a budget 👍 Hope the weekend was a gooder for yous all and you have a even better week, Blessings, good vibes from Canukistan comrades, fearless leader say today you can smile between the hours of 11-3 pm All other smiling will not be tolerated, unless your Riding 🤪
Great tips Josh, Yeah I had my centre nut come lose on a 2 day camp, on day one, could only get a shifter on it whilst out on the ride. Had to retighten it a few times. Got home and checked it should be 110 lbft according to the service manual, which is bloody tight. Also the prefilter so simple, I'm going to do it tomorrow, I was never happy with the small amount of filter it had to suck those 698ccs of goodness through. :-) Great tip. I'll probably do the front forks as well whilst locked down, in our local LGA. Cheers.
110 fuck that is hectic. No wonder mine came loose I don't think I did it up that tight after greasing the head stem bearings 🙈 Yeh the air filter thing, it's still got the same size intake but I guess it'll take longer to clog up with shit if the dirt is spread around a bit. I just added some 6mm preload spacers to the forks the other day as well, a bit of a bitza video with that in it will be coming out as soon as TH-cam stops smoking the pole. Fork oil 100% worth doing though 🍻 cheers
@@MVDBR there was ment to be 2 videos out now but had a SD hard drive screw up and corrupted every thing 🤬🤬 worst of all i had reformated my gopro so lost all the footage 😣😒 owh well shit happens ☹😲
Basically you removed 500mil oil out and 124 of old oil stayed in, because you need to unscrew the bottom to release the leftover oil. Therefore you currently have 750ml in each leg of 15W oil, meaning thick damping and air chamber is far too small. It should be 85mm, measured from outer chamber.
I actually came across ADVPulses little write up they did on pol tarres' T7. Apparently his was 'minimally modified' with mostly just thicker fork oil added. I can probably guess a stiffer rear spring too but i was pretty fucking shocked to read that. I'll probably end up doing this too whenever australia gets more teneres which will be... fuck knows
Do you think the T7 is capable of carrying a pillion for day rides on smooth roads? I know the seat would require rebuilding and the rear springs would need replacing. I know your wife rides her own bike, but has she been a pillion on the T7?
I don't see why not, plenty of power for it. I guess the rear spring might need beefing up depending on your weight but then again I'm no suspension expert. Think the seat would be fine 🤷♂️ Nat hasn't been on the back of the T7, got mine registered as a single seat right out of the shop to save some coin ✌
@@MVDBR So what your saying is I need a BS Torque Wrench that reads in the Hectare scale. How many Parsec's to a Hectare? Really appreciate your help. FPP/BSTWP
Hi Josh, Thanks for the info, I’ll be doing the same re heavier fork oil. I’m running a big block Shinko front tyre but am going for a smaller knobby, are yours Pirelli Scorpian Rally’s?
Goldentyre GT723 front & rear mate 👌 Thanks for the comment John, I'd probably recommend measuring the air gap above the oil in the fork rather than relying on quantities though if you want to be more precise 🍻
Tried 10w and replacement springs and it didn’t make much difference. I ended up with a ktec revalve front/rear and a 80nm rear spring for $1300 much better now. The standard oil is 5w by the way.
@@MVDBR Just checked with technic Motorsport and I can confirm the fork oil is 5w. Some off the service manuals were printed incorrectly. Fork oil viscosity from different manufacturers is also different so a 10w from one can actually be a lot less or more depending on who made it.
The heavier oil would completely change the clicker settings. You better do a video on the black art of clickers!
