I got the original Desktop Departures after seeing Geoff Marshall's video years ago. Had some issues with it and the person who makes them went and kindly did a repair job, giving me a couple of options for screen replacement, depending on my budget. I love the device. I also have a Large one on my bedroom wall that I purchased in 2021 that I refer to as my "clock", just to justify spending so much on it. I really love that one too. They're just amazing devices to own and use and I have a lot of respect for the person who created them because it's such a cool concept. I kinda wish I knew how to code some of the stuff that these run on so I could have an eInk version too, because that would be a fun idea.
These things are certainly good fun, but at almost £200 for the small one, rather too expensive for me.
Amazing! I might have to get one now. Would be fun to have in my room and potentially scare the maintenance folk with it 😂

Can you get departures for stations which don't have departure boards? Could you take it to a rural station, connect to your laptop and get thr missing announcements?

BTW a power pack (or USB power adapter or other USB power socket) is enough.
Some coffee shops that are based by stations without departure boards have had some installed for this purpose. It gets people in the door buying coffee and chatting.

So cool! I got one recently for Christmas too, really customisable and fun to play around with!
They are actually very good and ideal to use including when there are delays or cancellations to train services. Very good kit.
Yer it’s ok to say this you got given it free so you can advertise it for us it’s going cost nearly £180 or £383 for a bigger version
I have the Classic departure board. Great customisation, I have it set to shuffle to a random station every 15 minutes, and it also displays me news and weather. Together with the audio announcements, its a great toy!
I've just ordered the desk top version with sound and premium subscription. i can't wait to play with it.
if you can afford it, it would be really cool to see some model railway videos on the channel, whether it has extremely detailed electric trains or just the wooden ones

The bus function is really cool, It really makes me wonder why bus stations don't have departure boards eg.canterbury, would be very useful
Some do (e.g. Newport), occasionally it's even accurate.

I would like to have the full size on to put on my wall outside my house in Tenerife, think delivery costs would be too much to get it here.
I didn't know it could do bus stops, can it do any bus stop in the UK? I might be tempted to get one and set it for my nearest bus stop as I don't live near a railway station. 😥
I can imagine getting one of these...but I'd then get no work done at all!
It also BTW does Ireland, but I think only for rail and not for bus, and it doesn't do the LUAS.
I think the orange/yellow ones in stations are better than the white LED ones- I cannot read the white ones accross two lines of rails to next platform which I can guess when they were orange
Grrr our boards have changed in the last couple of months and the white ones are less easy to read from a distance
@@stephengow after all the work we did at DfT Inclusion unit on visiblity of bus blinds and similar it is so annoying to see Network Rail do its own thing from whatever source (I left 12 years ago and no doubt reports are merely gathering dust)

Hi - can you are more than 1 station at a time? Like have 3 different locations on the board? Maybe 1 for Kings cross and 1 for Manchester etc?

When did you record this? There hasn't been a "good service on all London Underground lines" for quite a while now due to extended problems on the Central line.
I think that doesn’t work too well as it announced that before and we checked and it said that there wasn’t a good service and there were delays

Yes and a few others, if you pay for the sound card upgrade also pay a monthly subscription, however the “see it say it” announcement is deliberate anxiety making noise pollution so I would mute it.

You can use any power source. I'm keeping it plugged into a power bank, mainly

Is it based of actual real time information? For example 0940 Shrewsbury to Birmingham. You could use that to go and catch said train from Wellington for example?

New Barnet, High Barnet and Cockfosters definitely weren’t random choices were they haha!
As a local of all 3 I can tell you why the Cockfosters departure board showed no departures… I believe its because for several weeks (its fixed now finally) the departure boards at Cockfosters were not in operation due to a system error or something similar 🤦♂️

It's an executive desktop toy really. Unless you can connect it to your phone's WiFi, it's useless for on the go use. It's not even rechargeable and needs to be constantly powered via USB!
