A great pontless journey that I once did was Kings Cross to St Pancras, Via York!

Go to New York and do Grand Central High Level (Metro North) to Grand Central Low Level (LIRR). Might be doable if you add an Amtrak train to get from somewhere on the Hudson or New Haven Lines to Penn Station.

Pointless journeys idea: Farnborough (Main) to Farnborough North
Train 1 - Farnborough to Woking
Train 2 - Woking to Guildford
Train 3 - Guildford to Farnborough North

Catford Station to Catford bridge, which are next to each other in South London would be a good one to do for you :). And on another note, if funds allow it, you could try to book a flight from Gatwick to Heathrow via Amsterdam or Aberdeen.

Here's a pointless journey idea for you (if you'd be up for it): Blaenau Ffestiniog to Blaenau Ffestiniog: Ffestiniog Railway station to National Rail station (or vice versa)
You should do Lichfield Trent Valley Upper to Lower, might be a long one ahah
Shotton is a ideal railway station with high level and low level platforms next door to each other. What about doing other railway stations that have high level and low level platforms.
Also Reading Green Park railway station on the Reading-Basingstoke line is now officially opened. And the TfW Class 230 trains are very nice.

Great vlog and pointless journey Nick. Can’t believe a 150 turned up to take you to Bidston instead of a 230. I’ve ridden the TFW 197s now and they are great new trains just when they are not busy lol. Nice to see a ride with Merseyrail again too. I enjoyed watching.

I was on 230007 yesterday, first ride on a 230. Pleasantly surprised, nothing like they were in the days when they ran the sub-surface District Line.

If I had a nickel for every time today I've seen a new video by a UK rail youtuber where they talk about having never walked down to the end of a certain station... I'd have two nickels... which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
Absolutely brilliant. Like the 197 bits; (due to have them on my local I believe - complimenting the already in place and increasing number of 67+mk4 sets). Trust them to chuck out a 'bin wagon' in place of the 230 as I'd like to have seen inside one of those. Very well and clearly narrated, and a very interesting video indeed.

Love these pointless journeys Upminster to Upminster Bridge would allow you to use Overground, Elizabeth line and Underground depending on which way round you did it.
Brilliant pointless Journey Nick, it's a shame you got a 150 instead of a 230 lol. Also I deffo agree about the underground sections of Merseyrail not being the same when the PEP's are withdrawn.

Your English is very good... and *far* better than my German. Incidentally I've visited Germany a number of times over the past few years and originally in 1995 for my first Berlin visit. Anyway last year I finally managed to travel to Wuppertal and experience the Schwebebahn, which was every bit as fascinating as I'd imagined! 🙂

So i try to improve my english reading, talking and understanding in that way, so i can communicate when i visit the uk :D oh and btw. the Schwebebahn one of the safest means of transport. It's just about 150-200 km away

You should try the Glasgow low level to upper stations. There's queen street and central that have both.
Great video. Love the pointless trips. Can you do Heath High Level to Low Level ? They are stations on the Cardiff Valley Lines.
Ahh Helsby Hill and the station are great, I walked up the hill a few months ago and was interested by the station being a junction station with abandoned sections of track that run into the trees towards Ellesmere Port. I also was given the inspiration by a fellow walker at the top of the hill to do the Sandstone Trail, which I'm doing over three consecutive days at the end of this month.
I suggest doing Clock House to Kent House, or maybe Catford to Catford Bridge (pretty sure someone has suggested this already)
another one could be London Waterloo to Waterloo East.
Tyndrum Upper - Tyndrum Lower.
There is another, shorter way to do High level to low level. Borderlands to Wrexham, Wrexham to Chester and then Chester to low level.
Then ar least if they are late they all are haha
Could also go Borderlands to Bidston, Bidston to Hamilton Square, Hamilton Square to Chester, then Chester to low level. More connections than yours, but quicker than the video
If you want to do Lichfield Trent Valley High Level to Lichfield Trent Valley Low Level you'll need to be quick as the high level platform closes early July for complete replacement until December 2023. The trains that terminate there will instead terminate at Lichfield City and a shuttle will be in operation.

You could do Canterbury east and Canterbury west either via faversham and ramsgate or via dover.
You should do Liverpool moorfields/ Central (Wirral line) to Liverpool moorfields/ Central (northern line. Love the videos, keep it up!

You're right, you'll lose some of the atmosphere when it's all 777s, but progress is a good thing!
I didn't ride the Class 230s but I saw them at Wrexham when I had my short break in North Wales (I arrived on a 175 and went back to Chester on a 2 car 153!)

How about Battersea Park (Southern) to Battersea Park (Overground)? An awkward one, due to Battersea Park only seeing 3 overground trains a day.
Or, Kensington Olympia (Overground/Southern) to Kensington Olympia (District)? Not as awkward, because although it only has a handful of weekday District line trains, weekends it is busier.
Catford to Catford Bridge (a 30 second walk between them) seems a good shout. Or, Bradford Forster Square to Bradford Interchange (2 termini, BDQ facing north and BDI facing south). Or, Stratford (terminating) to Stratford (Intl line) on the DLR. Newark Castle to Newark Northgate seems a good choice too.
Tamworth is a similar station on two levels, Birmingham to Derby line above the WCML.
Pointless Journey's in Tyneside: Manors Metro to Manors Network Rail.
Also (without simply walking through the station) Newcastle Central Metro to Newcastle Central Network Rail.

Another pointless journey would be from Heath High Level to Heath Low Level
How about Yeovil Pen Mill to Yeovil Junction? That’d be a bit pointless….

One option is
Wigan Wallgate-Southport, Southport-Moorfields (Northern Line)
Moorfields-Lime Street (Wirral Line)
Lime Street-Wigan North Western.
I was surprised first time I went from Wallgate to North Western how quick it is. There are a few tube stations in London with much longer distances between the platforms on different lines.

Go London St Pancras Int’l HL to LL (probs take EMR to Luton DART Parkway and get Thameslink back down, or take Southeastern to Stratford Int’l, tube via West Ham to Farringdon and take Thameslink one stop)

Just came to comment this! Was working out a route to go Edinburgh (Haymarket) to Queen Street high level, some kind of pointless ring of Subway to another local station to come into Central low level, go to an Edinburgh commuter station and turn around to come back into Queen Street Low level and go back to central high level and take the once a day suburban line train into Waverley just because. 3 Edinburgh stations and all 4 Glasgow options plus a once a day train over once a day tracks

I didn't do that that mainly because I don't want to be over-filling the video with stuff the viewer didn't necessarily come for. Trying to make the video about the "Pointless Journey" only as much as I can 🙂

a very long one would be Hammersmith (Circle and H&C Lines) to Hammersmith (District and Piccadilly Lines)
1.Circle OR H&C to Paddington
2.District OR Circle to South Kensington
3.Piccadilly Line to Hammersmith OR the other way
Pembroke to rosslare in Ireland
Dublin to Holyhead both sail and rail
Rosslare to Dublin .make a nice circle
I always find TfW is either dead with it being just you and 2 other people on board or so very under-capacity it not even funny. I taken maybe packed 175s and 150s. The Cambrian line could really do with a capacity upgrade, at least in the peak to/from Uni times. It so packed, that and the Manc Picc to Cardiff that is 2-3 carriages every time I got it; it should be 4 minium imo.
