Loved watching you disassemble and reassemble the gearbox. Great Job Tommy.

How much horsepower can an t5 handle ?.. I'm guessing it can be "beefed up"...

Rated at 305ftlbs of torque, but as long as you don’t beat on them too hard, can hold up pretty well closer to 350. Hard launches can tear them up. And yes, lots of ways to build them for more power. Not going to last at today’s common 1000hp numbers, but a sub 500 street car should be no problem with upgraded internals, billet retainer, stuff like that.

@@TX_Blake mine is currently behind a pretty tame sbc in my firebird.. and I'm looking into maybe putting a gen 6 or maybe gen 7 big block... I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to get something more durable... but ya know... just wondering

this question has been asked a million times and the answer is no slicks or grippy tires especially on a track, no high RPM flat foot shifting, no dumping the clutch, 3rd gear is usually first to go if you're beating on it! no handle 500 plus horsepower for quite a while if you don't beat on them they can be built up a little bit but they're really not the strongest transmission out there! the good thing is they are very easy to work on and there's plenty of aftermarket support for them and once you've built a couple T5s it will definitely give you the confidence to getting to other stuff that's more complicated! t5s are easy to work on definitely a great beginner transmission if you're trying to get into that sort of thing!

I want to know who really rebuilt that transmission, because it wasn't the guy on camera.

No gear box rebuilds for me. Too many pieces to try and remember how they go back together…coupled with my ADHD…equals a bad day😐

There isnt a side cover on a t5, the TOP cover on the other hand can only be pulled off after pulling the tail shaft housing off
