    What would you use the EAD for? And what's your favorite preset?? Let me know!

      Hi Gabe! Great review of the EAD10. Here's a drum cover i recorded useing the EAD10 and rec´n share app.
      My favorite preset is #1 Arena, On this video I have turned down the reverb a lot, so the drums sound more natural.
      Here's the link! th-cam.com/video/Nr9UtFRpSvo/w-d-xo.html

      space toms!

    • @JasonWelchMusic
      @JasonWelchMusic 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would use them simultaneously with my studio mics for recording.
      Then blend as desired during post production.
      I'm gonna be getting one of these soon. (House taxes coming due first....lol)

      I need to be conscious of being to loud in my current living situation so I recently purchased this and three triggers for my snare, rack and floor tom going on my kit with Remo silent stroke heads and low volume cymbals. I'm hoping that I'll be able to get some decent recordings. Do you notice any latency?

      I love the Yamaha EAD10. Let me provide you with some examples and tutorials (since your following is much bigger then mine, and they can still benefit from it I would maintain) 😅🤩
      Recent sound example:
      th-cam.com/users/shorts44zV72Wqex4?feature=share
      Sound tutorial on drums with and without it:
      th-cam.com/video/kASKxDjFmNA/w-d-xo.html
      And how ta add 5 extra triggers for fatter sound:

      Enjoy, and keep drumming! 🙏🏻

    My drummer got one of these from Yamaha. I am a guitarist/songwriter/producer and the possibilities of this thing is off the charts. Using it for cloud collaboration and for blending in live environments is mind boggling.

    For live playing, I use a Roland TM-6 Pro with triggers on Mylar heads and depending on how loud or quiet I need the kit to be, I add some dampening to the drums and blend the trigger sounds with the acoustic sound kit sound. It sounds incredible and I don’t have to worry about microphone bleed. I also find that with mylar heads, I don’t get buried in the mix like I do with mesh. However, if you are buying the EAD for the record and share option, it seems like a great tool.

  • @SmangItDrums
    @SmangItDrums 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I'd definitely use it for smaller lessons such as IG. For quick tutorials and 1 minute playthroughs, I think it works really well. This is especially considering people watch those kinds of videos on phones with somewhat crappy speakers, so I firmly believe the recording quality for those kinds of videos will work well in that setting.

    I wish you could’ve sued your floor Tom farthest away to hear how really low the mic picks it up. Pretty cool tho. I’m still debating on what my next investment should be, since I own a larger set and I’d like to record some of my tracks with my band. I have 4 rack toms and two floor toms. Maybe it’s too much for this, but this tool sounds and looks promising. By the way you’re one of my favorite drummers on social media. 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼

    Always killing it, man! I have a question. What would you buy? A pro electronic drumkit or the yamaha EAD 10?
    I already have an acoustic kit, but the only time I have to practice is at night, so I wanted to buy the roland TD-17KVX because of obvious reasons. But this really caught my attention. Thanks!

      How’s your setup these days? I currently have an acoustic kit and a Roland TD17kvx in my garage. It’s taking up way too much space and I barely play the electric kit so I’m wondering if I should pick this up

    I have a question.. Can i use this with mesh heads and low volume cymbals to get a better sound? I've used gaffer tape currently to my mesh heads and i am getting better tone. Will ead10 help me hear my kit better?

  • @zulusound

    Great review. I see some mics on your kit- I am assuming that all the sounds we are hearing is coming from the EAD being triggered mixed acoustic on its own stereo mic and its own samples with no additional mics? You also have a kick drum trigger going into the module? Thanks!

    Thanks for making this awesome video. Few questions Here, does it work with EMads bass drum heads?
    Or can I place it in front of bass drum?
    And, I only use one Tom on top and then a 22” ride on the other side. What do you recommend? Should I place it under the Tom?
    Thanks. .

    • @drumfanatik316
      @drumfanatik316 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Salvador Murillo yes it will work with an Emad head. Unlike other triggers, this one picks up from the head and the rim. As for placement, that’s something you have to experiment with yourself. Personally, I had to move my ride a bit so it wouldn’t be so loud. Like he says in the video, whatever is closest to the source will be the loudest.

    I'm seriously thinking of getting this! I'd use it for 2 main things: 1) to record drum covers and 2) to record my drums for my songs, connected directly to my computer. I found this and i think it can suit me well since i don't have any experience on recording, mixting or EQ, i've done some research on it, though. So, i think a very easy way to do what i want for my necessities. Besides, it would be way cheaper than buying some mics and an interface. That's mainly My purpose. Do you think it can work for me well?

      I think it totally depends on what you are going for. Clearly you can get a killer sound from the EAD 10 plus a whole bunch of awesome effects. But you'll have less control of your overall mix than standard mics. So there are trade offs for sure.

      Eddie Leyva for smaller venues it works great. You just have to adjust the mic gain settings so you’re not putting “too much” drums in the mix. That can be especially taxing if your band uses in ears.

    Awesome review! Some minor things to point out. This is great for small gigs and yes you have to be very careful of the cymbal bleed into the Mics. That being said, it’s just a matter of experimentation with the mic setting itself. Once you get it dialed in though it’s great. No overheads needed! Plus, you CAN record to a USB Flash drive as well. They’re seemingly inexpensive and easy to use as well. Plus no other cables or adapters to use! Personally though, I’m with you. Kind of bummed about the fact that they didn’t provide, or even sell them separately, the cables and connectors needed to be able to record and upload videos! It makes no sense to me? When the EAD first came out, it was only compatible with iPhones anyway, so why not just include the adapter or make it available through Yamaha?

    • @JoelAllport

    • @drumfanatik316
      @drumfanatik316 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joel Allport I don’t think it is? As far as I know, still only on iOS? I saw another review where the reviewer mentioned maybe buying a cheap used iPad or iPod touch and you’d be able to use the app? I know it’s extra money and an extra step, but the quality of the videos and audio are great!

      @JoelAllport 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@drumfanatik316 very strange how it's not on android. Hopefully it's only a matter of time. Yeah I did consider that. Only trouble is the video wouldn't be quite as good then as it will be a lower second hand model as opposed to my galaxy S9.

    • @motodrummer
      @motodrummer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So you can adjust the cymbal bleed into mics? or do yu just hit cymbals easier or move them farther away from the mics. My main reason for getting this would be live gigs if feasible?

    • @drumfanatik316
      @drumfanatik316 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@motodrummer just like any mic, it’s going to pick up what’s closest to it. The way I set my live kit up, it picks up a lot of my ride. To avoid that, I angle the EAD Mic towards the left away from the ride. Then you can adjust the gain on the mics themselves. Like I said, it’s all pretty much experimentation. It’s also great to use as a monitoring system for yourself. It’s a very useful tool, just a matter of trial and error!

    Thanks for the video. I bought one a few months ago, and I've been incredibly disappointed. It's cool to plug in a set of headphones and get that instant "big sound". But I've had a ton of trouble with it from the get-go. Including a nasty static/hiss (I replaced the cables, cleaned the jacks, and even had a tech open up the unit and inspect it.... no luck). The kick trigger can be a little unpredictable (not triggering at all then suddenly triggering super loud). Turning it on and off again SOMETIMES helps. And I haven't been able to figure out how to record to USB either- something that should be simple but hasn't been. The EAD 10 is a nice little novelty item, but my sense is that this is a relatively new idea in the drum/technology world and they have a ways to go before it functions at a level that's worth the $$.

    • @damedashn2139
      @damedashn2139 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      May have gotten a defective unit. I bought one a week ago and don’t know how I went this long without one. I’m using it specifically to have that mic’d compressed sound in my headphones when I’m playing, just because it’s so satisfying to hear it in real time while playing, and to record myself and work on areas in my playing that I might be weak in. That being said, I probably wouldn’t use it for anything other than what I’m using it for, but just having that instant gratification of playing a mic’d kit alone was worth the purchase for me

      Yes, but be mindful that you have an open mic and could have monitor feedback (if you are not using in-ears). It's also great as just a personal monitor mix for live playing. Take the board feed into the aux in and you can hear the band AND your drums through your headphones. It has an incredible headphone amp build it.

    How necessary is it to use in ears with this when playing live in small to medium-sized rooms? I was thinking about plugging headphones directly into the unit and keeping it low enough to hear everything else from the monitor wedge as well. I don't really want to use a personal mixer or headphone amp and complicate things

    Can the Microphone be attached somewhere besides the Bass Drum? I play a Rack and sit pretty low, my Ride sits directly above my Bass Drum about 3" so I'm wondering if that might take away from picking up the rest of the Kit. Mine should arrive in a day or 2 but figured I'd throw the question out If anyone has experience with this (Positioning of the Mic).

      Bostaph yes! There are a ton of settings on this thing! There’s metal, then speed metal, plus some hard and solid rock it’s called. But you can also make your own “scene” as they call it which gives you the option of taking parts of pre-loaded scenes you like, and using them in your own scene. This thing is very versatile.

      Yes. If it's in your itunes library or from your dropbox, it will load into the Rec'n'Share app. Generates a click and then you can play along and make a video. It will let you mix the balance of stereo audio track and your stereo drums track. Save it and sent it right to TH-cam, email, or even text it to anyone.

    • @drumfanatik316
      @drumfanatik316 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Afonso Ramalho essentially yes. But you have to go into the mic settings and turn the gain down on the Mics themselves. Kind of defeats the purpose for what the unit is intended for though. When I use mine in a live setting at gigs, I turn the Mics down, but not off. I still want the effects coming through the PA, plus it eliminates the need for overheads. One less thing to set up and tear down!

    I tried this on a few live gigs. Yes there was a lot of cymbal bleed and also I couldn’t get the kick thumpy enough. Even w/ our subs and effects. I had to use my kick mic. I also tried to trigger percussion sounds off a dtx pad but the gain just wasn’t loud enough. For monitoring this thing was great though. That was my take on it.

      Hi Michael.. yep same here.. and the bass Trigger ??? if you mash the beater to the bass head you get one sound, not so much the effect thought, then when you hit bass and let beater fly back sometime you actually get the effect-only sometimes ??? I don't no, still playing with it. I never have any problems with my Roland kit or Roland triggers on one of my acoustic kits,

  • @sungminoh9927

    I've been using the Yamaha's EAD 10 module in our band to get the drums' signal and send it to to our mixing console so that it can play it through the PA speakers in our setting. Soon, our sound mixing guy tells me that all the sound that is sent to the module into the auxiliary input from the the mixing console is passing by and being sent back to the mixing console together with the drums' signal from the output of the module. So for example, instead of just receiving the drums' sound in the mixing console from the module all the other instruments are being sent as well. Is it normal for this to happen? The sound mixing guy is asking me to configure so that just the drums' signal is sent to the mixing console through its output. Bur for some reason the signal that I receive to monitor and play on top of it is sent together with the drums' signal. Is this normal to happen? Is this a default setting from the factory? I've tried to look at the manuals but couldn't find anything regarding this matter.
    Would greatly appreciate any help! Thank you!

    • @patrickfa6994
      @patrickfa6994 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, I don't think you can extract only the drums' signal and throw it to the mixing console. It will capture all the other signals as well which is why this device is recommended for smaller gigs/simple setups, not for live monitoring environments. However, do let me know if you do found a solution to this. Would like to hear from you.
