This is a clever way for acoustic drummers to have a more versatile range of sounds. Introducing a modern twist to acoustic drums. I really like this option and will more than likely add the Yamaha AD 10 unit to my drum kit. Thanks, Nick, and Yamaha for this new innovation.

Josue Montalvo that’s what I’m saying! You can do so much with this thing and for what it can do, it’s really not that expensive. I’m extremely impressed.
You know what would have made this cool..? If it had an FX loop so you can quickly process your drums with your own effects. That would make this worth the $500 price tag.
answered the "live setting question". but actually someone here has used it live and it changes your whole perception. just use in ear monitors and no floor monitors near you to prevent the extra bleed although might depend on the genre too otherwise maybe you can unplug the mic lead and just use triggers. thanks!
Don't be fooled, this is not a review. This is a product demo to sell that thing, two completely different things. He's only highlighting pros and ignoring cons.
Mark Eurenz Cabusas it is great for live performances in small to medium size venues. I’ve been using it since November when it came out. I don’t use overheads or close miking anymore. Just the EAD and an internal mic in the kick. The video demos on this thing does not do it justice. Plus in live settings, you can also use it as your monitor for your kit and will also allow your band mates to hear your kit at a reasonable volume. So many possibilities and options in a live setting. Again, I need to stress, like Nick said, in a huge live setting, this won’t work. But when you’re in a small to medium size club, where sound is an issue then it will work depending on the size of your band, where the back line is set up, etc. Me personally I play in a 3 & 4 piece band and we use in ear monitors. We have a direct in to the board with the bass, and use close miking on the guitar amps so they don’t have to be turned up extremely loud. Also, being spread out on the stage a bit will also keep the amps from bleeding into the mic as well. Even if you use overheads, you’ll still have that problem. This is more centralized and you have total control over the gain. I keep mine set at 2-3 depending on the venue and haven’t had any issues with either the kit not being heard or too loud, or any kind of bleed or feedback from surrounding instruments.
drumfanatik316 I see. Looks like it works then. However, not to sound whiney, I come from a third world country and though our bassist has a DI on his multifx, most backline amps here aren't closed miced either. Venues are to small so I think bleed is still an issue. But yeah, I hope by next year the whole band will run on IEM. Looks like I gotta try it once it hits the stores here to see for myself.
also for live performance if you need to trigger kick and/or snare, just press the mic bottom and turn the volume of the mic down... just search using EAD10 for live situation on yt, a great guy made an interesting video. I will buy this EAD... for sure.
Graziano Ciccarelli Thanks man, haven't seen much info upon the release. I'll take a closer look once more. It's really promising and I hope it delivers.
Nick. You can sell anything. If I was any less of a man, I'd be bankrupt. Got the EAD10 in my sights for the near future. Thanks for the excellent demo.
I just got and used live for the first time. I added a snare trigger. After calabrating the mics in it at the gig, I find that it is a reasonable IEM solution too. I could hear vocals and other instruments enough and my drums sounded great. I might move my ride over more next time , as indeed it was too much in the mix.
Thank you so much for this. I almost bought it for the wrong application. I really wanted to use it for a live setting. If there is too much bleed from the other instruments, that will ruin a band's sound.
I used live last night. I was going to go from the ead10 to the FOH and back to my iems, adding vocal mics etc... I found the unit picked up everything fine so I kept it simple and just plugged my headphones into the ead10. So, I found the perceived disadvantage and actual benefit.
@UCFRnBFm3CVE5mwt4RLzYXHw I sometimes plug a snare and kick trigger in and blend the sound; but honestly if your kit sounds good and you use a preset that enhances the sound (via the mics); I just keep it simple. Ultimately, let's say for rock, I don't need my kick to sound like I am in Def Leppard; I just want it to have a little punch in my IEMs and slight reverb yet be my drum's sound. Good Luck to you.
I reckon this would be Uber cool to use in conjunction with a regular mic’d set up - as a parallel smack blend in effect - especially with how the internal compressor slams the way it does 🧐🧐🧐
Man, drumming has evolved so much... some may say it's gotten so complicated, others may be a bit more positive and say there's so many ways to shape your sound :)
probably the question a lot of drummers have is what happens if you play this with silent stroke heads and L80 cymbals? can this be used (triggered, not triggered, etc.) to create a "quiet" practice kit perhaps by using the triggers only and using the mic to pick up the L80s (if possible)? thanks.
yeah i wasn't sure, but i think the "mix" was just fx-heavy as opposed to running mesh heads. i know what you mean about some parts sounding like you couldn't hear the acoustics heads at all.
It will pick up the cymbals a bit, but you would need to have triggers like he has on the snare in the video, to trigger sounds. So the actual sensor/microphone part, won’t pick up silent stroke heads.
"can this be used to create a "quiet" practice kit" No, quite the opposite. And don't bother trying to practice quiet -- if you can't play loud, find somewhere where you can play loud. If you have to be quiet, work on your rudiments on a pad instead.
Hey Sweetwater! Thank you for the awesome product review! I just had a question in regard to having the click in the video. I understand that the app will do a count off click and you can have a click while you play to a song, but if I were to upload that video to a social media platform, would the click be embedded in the track, or is there a way to play along with the click and then take it out in the final video. Hope that question makes sense. Thank you!
I wanna know more about how it would work with silence pads on drums and silent cymbals. I play prog rock and need real drums but I’m loud so I need to come up with a way to lower volume in bars. Can you please upload a video for demo? Thanks. Please comment back
from what I understood the mic picks up the acoustic sounds of the shells, and the module lets you add some effects and sounds so in your headphones you'd have a mix of the acoustic sound of the shells and the chosen effects. And you can change the balance between the natural sounds and the effects, am I right ? More important, what is the function of the trigger exactly? How is the sound/effect of the trigger (bass and/or snare) controlled ? Can you assign another sound to the trigger as to the shells and how's it done ?
Hello, David! You are correct. The mic does pick up the acoustic sound of the drums and allows you to put effects onto the drums in real time, with a balance of how much of the effect you would like mixed with your natural drum sound. As for the trigger input, there are actually over 700 different sounds that you are able to assign to additional trigger inputs that are built into the sound module. Similar to other electronic drum set modules, you will just have to go into the sound module and choose from preset drum sounds, or you can assign the sound that you would like to have for each trigger. Hey, steffenbrix. Thanks for your interest. I don’t believe there is panning on the toms and cymbals unfortunately. I hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com
I like this because of how simple it is and seemingly intuitive the interface is. However, I'm worried about the EAD's ability to record drums that are on the left side of the kit. Any thoughts on its abilities there?
It's called the Meinl percussion laptop table stand, I don't have it because they are quite pricey($220) but from what I've heard they're well worth the money
Amazing! I have one question, instead of connecting it to my phone, can i connect it directly to my laptop and create a sound line for the drums and edit them there?
When recording, is the device is recording one of the sounds of the module or it’s recording the acoustic kit? If it’s recording the acoustic kit how is the sound quality of the recording?
In a live setting, is there a way to send the sound from the module to front of house without click, but still be able to hear click, as well as the rest of the band, in my headphones?
Check out rob browns channel, he has a video where he explains for whole band and drummers only on how to hook up in ears with clic and backing track...ill try find the video n send you the link
Just found out about this tool. Thanks for the review! I'm wondering if this might be a cool thing to use for in-ear monitoring on stage and get a nice drum sound without bothering the sound engineer. But is there a way to adjust the individual volumes? Like more kick drum, less toms, more cymbals …?
Hey, Lauren! Yes, you are able to adjust the output volume for each individual sample. I think that could be a really great option to use specifically for your in-ear monitors. You’ll just need to find a way to make sure that’s still being mixed in with the rest of your in-ear mix though. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to further discuss. We can certainly help more if we know your exact setup. Thanks! Nick Pasquino, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 3230, nick_pasquino@sweetwater.com
Live I dont see how it would pick up anymore extra noise than a normal overhead mic. I have heard of a lot of people using it succesfully. Just dont point the speakers at yourself or have them too close
Would I be able to use a normal trigger like the dt50k bass drum trigger from Yamaha and basically replace the the actual mic/trigger that comes with the module? I want a bass drum trigger but I don’t want to spend more money on another module if I don’t have to. Thanks again!!
@@demonicsweaters ...and how much will a good kick mic alone run you? About twice the price of this whole system, for a Sure beta? lol Get some T-bone mics for cheaper i guess. But then, you have to have an interface and route cables and buy that setup too. It's basically, Tbones, the EAD10, or a studio setup that costs 5 times as much as the EAD10 (on a good day). lol Happy drumming!
@@3SevenStangVids Yeah, that's a good call. I just got an EAD10, myself. I'm just figuring it out, and wanted a quick midline option that didn't involve having a separate interface/mixer/multiple mics/etc. I like just having a small box I can take anywhere with me that just clips onto the hoop too. It also has a bunch of other useful features that come with it. But, he has a great channel and info.! Happy drumming!
That Phil Collins patch was spot on. So in your opinion would you get this or the sabian mic pack. I'll upgrade eventually I'm just anxious to get started recording on a low budget
The Yamaha EAD10 is a better option in my opinion IF you add 2 more triggers for toms. The video recording and upload app is the cool feature that exceeds its dollar value. See the review of the Sabian Sound Kit here: th-cam.com/video/qIyT-mspiN8/w-d-xo.html You will see the the recording quality limitations of the Sabian products in this video. You could, however, use both Yamaha and Sabian products to expand your mic'ing capabilities by taking one of the main outputs of the Sabian mixer and sending it into the AUX input of the Yamaha EAD10. That way your Sabian signal would get effected with all of the onboard effects of the Yamaha. You would just hard pan each channel in the Sabian mixer to the right or left output, and then send that mono signal to the Yamaha since you only have one AUX input on the Yamaha. That would be an incredible set up! ... But do you want to spend $800 to get those results? ... Big question.
Hello, Frank! I'm sorry to say the EAD10 cannot be set to 3/4 time. As per the manual, the time signature it can accommodate are: 1/4 to 16/4, 1/8 to 16/8, 1/16 to 16/16. Thanks for the interest! Cody Kraus, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1766, cody_kraus@sweetwater.com
If you have your old iPhone, you can use it without activating the phone of course. That is what I do. But, Rec and Share is only beneficial for the record yourself (audio or video) part. Needed if you are a TH-camr or want to slow down a tune; but not a make or break app to consider a purchase.
Each video I watch on the ead 10 shows drummers beating the daylights out of their drums. Not unusual. What happens (other than being called a pansy drummer) when you play with brushes, or gently, or with dynamics? And with a 12 piece kit, for which I always hope? How many different drums and cymbals (and wood blocks and claves and timbales) are within the sound module?
Thanks for the question, Carl. Yes, drummers like to bash! As for your question, it would work. But, most of the sounds are designed more for "pop/rock" type sounds. With brushes, it way sound a little unusual. As for size of kit, it depends. The mic picks up quite a lot, so as long as it is in the range of the main BD unit, it should work fine. Experimentation would be the best way to see how it is going to work for you. Thank you for the interest! Derek Senestraro, Sweetwater Senior Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1243
Great review! I am considering an EAD10 and have 2 questions and was wondering if you have an idea about them: 1. Can you use different samples for different velocities? I have some That Sound samples and they have 5 different velocity samples per snare. Is it possible to load them in so that they trigger accordingly to how hard you hit the snare? 2. Is is possible to set up the EAD10 in a way that you only get the sampled kick and snare (so I could use them and add other mics too it) and you can seperate them in the outputs? Would be awesome if someone knew!
Hi Wagh_Rules! The EAD10 does only allow there to be one sample in place, so you would not be able to set up different samples at different velocities. If you want more layers to be there with a Yamaha sound module, you can check out the DTX502 that lets you set up 2, and the DTX700 which allows 4. As for playback of just the samples, you can turn off the built-in mic, allowing for just the samples to play back. You would just need to pan them left and right to be able to have them be on their own output. Thanks for your interest! Will this work with the Remo silent stroke mesh heads, or any mesh heads for that matter? Or they have to be regular Mylar heads on a the regular acoustic drum set?I live in a small apartment. So this would help a ton
Hello, Fil! The EAD10 can be used with triggers on a mesh drum head kit, no problem at all, but it will require some degree of setup. Hi Sweetwater I really enjoyed your video, thank you so much for sharing this information. I'm thinking about buying a Yamaha EAD10 to record my band's songs. Do you believe the sound quality that the EAD10 records is good enough to be in a quality recording? Thanks for the information!
Hey, Rafael. Thanks so much for reaching out. I really like the EAD10. The sounds you get are really cool and balanced. I hope this helps. Best Regards, Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com
What is the result if you do not clamp the microphone box to your kick rim, but instead place it (somehow) not touching the kick but (somehow) in the same location? In other words, does the system design and resulting sound depend on the pickup of vibrations from kick-to-unit? And not only the two mics? And.... can you get a version that does NOT have all the effects? Where you want merely a two-small-mics-in-one-easy-spot recording/mixing/compression solution?
Hi, Mike! The mics will transmit signal independent of the bass drum trigger, so theoretically it could be mounted elsewhere. There is not a version without effects. Feel free to call us with any other questions! Dustin Keesbury, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1274, dustin_keesbury@sweetwater.com
How much delay is there between the unit's output and the acoustic output of the the drums? For instance, if a drummer used this live in a small enough venue amd routed the output of this unit to the PA would the sound from this unit produce a noticeable flam because of the delay between the acoustic output of the drums and the unit?
Hi, Mark! I would not be concerned about any latency on the triggered sounds. Triggers are used live from this and many other devices all of the time, and in my experience have always worked flawlessly. Thanks for your interest! Mike Wuchter, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1789
Our Band has an in ear system Can I get it mixed in with the other members and loops for certain parts, that I can dial it in for my mix andthe Sound guy for the front of house? Nice demo by the way, covered about everything, God bless
Hello, and thank you for the question! Yes, you will be able to mix in with the other members of the group. There is a stereo output on the back of the module. You would have to send the output to front of house after mixing it in on your end. I hope this helps! Thank you for your interest! Ian Lemberg, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1280

Can this sync up with a DAW? Like starting recording through the mic will trigger recording in the DAW? (Manual editing and aligning to the tempo in the DAW is always annoying)
"Manual editing and aligning to the tempo in the DAW is always annoying" you'd be better off with Celemony's Melodyne -- perhaps Melodyne 4 essential at $100 is all you need to control the grid, but the full package is $850. Here's a cheaper idea: use the drums as the basis for your tempo and have the other musicians line up to the drums, you know ... the old fashioned way. ;)
Hey, Jeremy. Thanks so much for your interest. It will not take tracks from Spotify. Plexiglass will help isolate you from the rest of the band mates, but you can expect a little bit of bleed through. I hope this helps. Best Regards, Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com
You know what would make this even better is if it could actually help you match the drum tones to the actual song. Say I want the exact bombastic drum sound on "When The Levee Breaks" - you would pick the song through the app, have it scan the song as it does but then tells you how to "tweak" and exactly what effect specifically to choose - NOW THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. But it doesn't do that. I'll give you another example,, say I want to play 100,000 Years by KISS, I, no doubt can get that flanger effect for the solo part, but my drums don't sound like Peter Criss on recording, it would help me tweak the drums to get that infamous drum tone he got on Alive or any other song for that matter. The other thing is, why the hell do these modules always have to have space sounds. It seems the criteria for approval to sell these things is to have stupid space sounds in them.
Am I able to plug this module into an audio interface and record along side mics I already have in place for the toms and cymbals? n00b dad question. Thanks.
That’s a great question. Yes you can. It does have quarter inch outputs that you can connect to an interface. I hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com
Ok I'm getting most of it except the long cable connect d to the brain and the USB lightning jack...so do I need 2 different cables for that recording from phone

Hello, Big daddy micah! Not really. Without triggers, the EAD10 relies on built in mics to capture the audio of acoustic drums. Low volume cymbals might be okay, but with mesh heads and without triggers, your kit will just sound like mesh heads with effects on them. A set of triggers is recommend for using the EAD10 with mesh heads, and Yamaha goes over those setup specs here: manual.yamaha.com/mi/bo/ead10/en/05_sad_en.html Thanks for the interest! Agreed as well as an ability to use the triggers to control an external brain like a nord drum without having to run thru a computer to route midi.

Very nice ! Got mine and it's beyond my expectation..
I love the practice and video feature. Nice song NICK
Just bought one .... anxious to see all it can do
Your playing is so solid.
This is a revolutionary thing! Love it!
I just got and used live for the first time. I added a snare trigger. After calabrating the mics in it at the gig, I find that it is a reasonable IEM solution too. I could hear vocals and other instruments enough and my drums sounded great. I might move my ride over more next time , as indeed it was too much in the mix.
Did you use a personal mixer, or just plug in directly to the unit?
I love this EAD-10. And Sweetwater.
Last part was an honest killer for me. Was hoping to use it live.
@ 19:28 the version 2 update has added a noise gate to help reduce some of the stage noise.
@@dapdrums ah... thanks for that. thats very perceptive. TOP COMMENT!
Very well made go through video. Cristal clear. Thanx a lot 🙏
I reckon this would be Uber cool to use in conjunction with a regular mic’d set up - as a parallel smack blend in effect - especially with how the internal compressor slams the way it does 🧐🧐🧐
I enjoy Nock's reviews...
Man, drumming has evolved so much... some may say it's gotten so complicated, others may be a bit more positive and say there's so many ways to shape your sound :)
probably the question a lot of drummers have is what happens if you play this with silent stroke heads and L80 cymbals? can this be used (triggered, not triggered, etc.) to create a "quiet" practice kit perhaps by using the triggers only and using the mic to pick up the L80s (if possible)? thanks.
thats what I thought he was doing at certain points when you couldn't hear the acoustic kit, especially during the Flange Parts.
yeah i wasn't sure, but i think the "mix" was just fx-heavy as opposed to running mesh heads. i know what you mean about some parts sounding like you couldn't hear the acoustics heads at all.
Looks like you would want the added triggers since the main unit is a microphone and wouldn't pick up the mesh head hits very well, if at all
It will pick up the cymbals a bit, but you would need to have triggers like he has on the snare in the video, to trigger sounds.
Great overall video on how to use this - THANK YOU!

Thank you!
the best explanation
This ead10 works with silentstroke and the zildjian Low volume
Makes no sense...
Ralf Mersch ???????
Have you tested it? I'm very curious about this point and would love to check a video showing the system on a "silent" kit.
I wanna know more about how it would work with silence pads on drums and silent cymbals. I play prog rock and need real drums but I’m loud so I need to come up with a way to lower volume in bars. Can you please upload a video for demo? Thanks. Please comment back
Hey, maybe now you know it but just in case, with the new 2.0 update you can use mesh heads and silent cymbals with the EAD10.
Grate, thank you was helpfull
I will buy this thing as soon as possible, cheaper and better like a two mic set up
from what I understood the mic picks up the acoustic sounds of the shells, and the module lets you add some effects and sounds so in your headphones you'd have a mix of the acoustic sound of the shells and the chosen effects.
Thanks for you interest!

I use mine for practice and live. I would like to know where I can find drumless tracks to practice with.
But is there any panning on toms and cymbals??
Hey, steffenbrix. Thanks for your interest. I don’t believe there is panning on the toms and cymbals unfortunately.
I hope this helps.

@@sweetwater thanks 😊👍
I like this because of how simple it is and seemingly intuitive the interface is. However, I'm worried about the EAD's ability to record drums that are on the left side of the kit. Any thoughts on its abilities there?
Is all of the audio of the drums in this video solely recorded with the EAD10 mics? Or is there additional mic'ing?
I bought one, but now ill send it back. I was thinking it would be good live ugh
@Sweetwater I would like to know what he was using for a stand his laptop is sitting on?
It's called the Meinl percussion laptop table stand, I don't have it because they are quite pricey($220) but from what I've heard they're well worth the money
Amazing! I have one question, instead of connecting it to my phone, can i connect it directly to my laptop and create a sound line for the drums and edit them there?
I do have the same question!
At 12:44 it has a picture of a midi connection, so if your software supports this module it should work no problem.
When recording, is the device is recording one of the sounds of the module or it’s recording the acoustic kit? If it’s recording the acoustic kit how is the sound quality of the recording?
Thank you! Very informative
Is this the guy from Spock's Beard?
Yes
Awesome! I want one...
Thanks!

a demonstration with a larger kit, with an extra tom and more cymbals would be nice
Live I dont see how it would pick up anymore extra noise than a normal overhead mic. I have heard of a lot of people using it succesfully.
Just dont point the speakers at yourself or have them too close
Can I use it on a small stage too? What does it do with other sounds on the stage?
Would I be able to use a normal trigger like the dt50k bass drum trigger from Yamaha and basically replace the the actual mic/trigger that comes with the module? I want a bass drum trigger but I don’t want to spend more money on another module if I don’t have to. Thanks again!!
Anybody use this for home recording? I’m just curious if it would be a cheap alternative to buying a giant board and large mic pack.
But not a cheap alternative to buying two mics and laying them on your kickdrum. But then, you'd still need a mixer and recorder.
You're better off with two overhead (or even one) condensers and a kick mic
@@demonicsweaters ...and how much will a good kick mic alone run you? About twice the price of this whole system, for a Sure beta? lol Get some T-bone mics for cheaper i guess. But then, you have to have an interface and route cables and buy that setup too. It's basically, Tbones, the EAD10, or a studio setup that costs 5 times as much as the EAD10 (on a good day). lol Happy drumming!
look up el esteperio siberiano
@@3SevenStangVids Yeah, that's a good call. I just got an EAD10, myself. I'm just figuring it out, and wanted a quick midline option that didn't involve having a separate interface/mixer/multiple mics/etc. I like just having a small box I can take anywhere with me that just clips onto the hoop too. It also has a bunch of other useful features that come with it. But, he has a great channel and info.! Happy drumming!
What if you just want to hear your drums' natural sound?
That Phil Collins patch was spot on. So in your opinion would you get this or the sabian mic pack. I'll upgrade eventually I'm just anxious to get started recording on a low budget
The Yamaha EAD10 is a better option in my opinion IF you add 2 more triggers for toms. The video recording and upload app is the cool feature that exceeds its dollar value.
See the review of the Sabian Sound Kit here:
th-cam.com/video/qIyT-mspiN8/w-d-xo.html
You will see the the recording quality limitations of the Sabian products in this video.
Damn This is NICEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
Is there a way to make the EAD10 use 3/4 time when analyzing a song and creating the click track?
Hello, Frank! I'm sorry to say the EAD10 cannot be set to 3/4 time. As per the manual, the time signature it can accommodate are: 1/4 to 16/4, 1/8 to 16/8, 1/16 to 16/16.

I wish that app was on androids. I might have to switch back to iPhone for this.
If you have your old iPhone, you can use it without activating the phone of course. That is what I do. But, Rec and Share is only beneficial for the record yourself (audio or video) part. Needed if you are a TH-camr or want to slow down a tune; but not a make or break app to consider a purchase.
I absolutely love this and would like to have one for my kit. My only question is how would this work for a double bass set up?
I have one and what you could do is run a trigger to your secondary kick drum.

Great review! I am considering an EAD10 and have 2 questions and was wondering if you have an idea about them:

Hi Sweetwater
I really enjoyed your video, thank you so much for sharing this information. I'm thinking about buying a Yamaha EAD10 to record my band's songs. Do you believe the sound quality that the EAD10 records is good enough to be in a quality recording?

I wonder if I can use my roland triggers

Here's a cheaper idea: use the drums as the basis for your tempo and have the other musicians line up to the drums, you know ... the old fashioned way. ;)
Do i have to use iTunes? Or can i use spotify with it? Also would plexiglass work to isolate my kit from the rest of the band?
Hey, Jeremy. Thanks so much for your interest. It will not take tracks from Spotify. Plexiglass will help isolate you from the rest of the band mates, but you can expect a little bit of bleed through.

And if you could adjust the pitch of your toms. Autotune for drums.
Am I able to plug this module into an audio interface and record along side mics I already have in place for the toms and cymbals? n00b dad question. Thanks.
That’s a great question. Yes you can. It does have quarter inch outputs that you can connect to an interface.

Does this work with low volume heads and cymbals without using triggers on every drum.
Hello, Big daddy micah! Not really. Without triggers, the EAD10 relies on built in mics to capture the audio of acoustic drums. Low volume cymbals might be okay, but with mesh heads and without triggers, your kit will just sound like mesh heads with effects on them. A set of triggers is recommend for using the EAD10 with mesh heads, and Yamaha goes over those setup specs here:
