Should have cut and fitted the radiator cap before soldering on the end caps, to remove all the shavings. Be interesting to know how badly it leaked?

you can see the coolant on the ground under the car. it leaked bad.

I worked at a radiator shop this is how we cut down radiators but we welded them. Metal shavings are no different than stop leak.
