This song was playing at the local bar tonight. I'm a child of the very end of the 80s and starting to feel the same sad nostalgic-ish feelings Don Henley evoked in the original. Love how this one is pop-punk which takes me back to my own time growing up (early-90s to mid-2000s.) I love both versions.
Me being a 2000’s kid, and STILL being able to appreciate this song and it’s original, just tells me how good this song is. Edit: it makes me wanna go back to the 80’s and 90’s… even though I wasn’t born back then.
Everytime I hear this song it takes me back to summer 2003, spending the whole summer being crazy 15 year olds. Camping all over town in the craziest places, midnight walks... It reminds me of my friend. She loved Atari and was the one who introduced us to this song. She will be gone 8 years in August. I miss her, and wish we had answers. some closure. RIP Kylie... I will never forget you or that summer.
This takes me back to the 80s listening to the original version. I like this version a'lot better though. lobgin5134 play this song some more in memory of your friend:)

This song is one of the best "windows down, music up, free as f*ck" songs that there is. You know a song is one of those songs when it makes your chest feel some type of way when you hear it. Got me through my angsty teen years and still inspiring in my 30s.

When a cover of an old song has gotten old and still sounds this good, that song is legendary. Good that people still are listening, sanity still exists.
Nobodies bitching about which version is better. That's a testament to how good this song really is. Both treatments reveal a great original piece of songwriting.
I’m so glad you found it! I’m 20 and have been listening to both the cover and original since my dad had this playing one day when I was really young. Such a good song, I’m glad people are still discovering it, especially in our generations.
The original was 19 years old when this cover was done. As of writing this comment, the cover is now 19 years old. It's crazy, how is it back in '03, the 80s seemed like forever ago while today in '22, the 00s seemed like they just happened...
This song reminds me of summer of 03. Just got my license and my bestfriend ( who's a girl) had her cousin from across the country stay for the summer. Fell in love for the first time. Undeniably this is one of the greatest cover songs of all time. I'm completely positive that Don Henley was very proud of The Ataris for this cover of that legendary 1984 hit single by the Eagles' frontman himself, and I'm sure he still is proud of this cover song today whenever he hears it playing on the radio! This song was also featured on that 2003 hit single compilation album "Now That's What I Call Music! Vol. 14". And that is living proof of how huge of a hit this cover song really was!

This version blows me away, that's incredible that you got to tour with them.🍃🍃😎🇺🇸🍻
WOW
That's hella sweet, and truth in my opinion. They blow this song away.
Suuuuuuure your band did.. 😏
That’s awesome dude!! Warped tour back in the early 00’s was absolute awesomeness 😎
Who was ur band!?
This song was playing at the local bar tonight. I'm a child of the very end of the 80s and starting to feel the same sad nostalgic-ish feelings Don Henley evoked in the original. Love how this one is pop-punk which takes me back to my own time growing up (early-90s to mid-2000s.) I love both versions.
Born in 88 I know how you feel lol
Me being a 2000’s kid, and STILL being able to appreciate this song and it’s original, just tells me how good this song is.
Edit: it makes me wanna go back to the 80’s and 90’s… even though I wasn’t born back then.
Me too bro me too. Almost 40yo.
Love both versions this one gets played more
@@vw1610 I am sixty and I love both original versions
My youth, my friends, my school, my memories...
Thank you, life! This is awesome!❤
I didn’t even know there was a pop punk cover of this song. I love it!
Really 😮 try New Found Glory screen to stereo. Their version of titanic song is decent
I'm sorry man, that must be really really hard. Chances are she is somewhere else, a better place.
Sorry for your loss young man, from one of those crazy 15 year olds when the original was out who are still fortunate enough to be around.
Ditto man, reminds me of being 15, sneaking out nightly to go sit with Emmie Murphy in her front lawn, talking and making out til the sun started to show😂, hop on my bike and get back home before my mom woke up 🤣
Life is crazy bro huh, we can never go back it's a bummer
I was 80 when I first heard this. I'm 106 now and still rocking on......
Looking good for 106!

This is just an incredible cover. I got goosebumps the first time I heard it. I’ve always liked this song, but never did I think I could enjoy it like this. This is up there for one of the best covers of all time for me.

Omg, this song never gets old! I’m so glad these dudes remade it!!! It’s sounds so cool!!! 🫶💫

yes awesomeness and say it away i will back you on that comment!!
what he said XD
This song is one of the best "windows down, music up, free as f*ck" songs that there is. You know a song is one of those songs when it makes your chest feel some type of way when you hear it. Got me through my angsty teen years and still inspiring in my 30s.
Your comment is perfection because it is exactly what I’m feeling and what I thought of right now listens to it. 👌💜
yesssss
Blasting over a bridge at sunset windows down in a beat up truck gas pedal on the floor... yeah I still remember that feeling.
This comment is as 🔥as the cover...so well written.
Omg, it is!!! That’s totally it!
This is probably one of the best covers of all time
F*CK YEAH IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Eagles rock'd it...The Ataris fuckin smashed it.....
Don Henley, this was not an Eagles song
Yea... your correct...but Don Henley was the Eagles...lol
I'm usually luke warm to disappointed on modern covers of good classic rock songs, but I feel this song does the original justice and then some! Damn this is a fun song to rock out to!!
Sixteen years ago is modern? Jesus.
@@rubyashe5744 I guess I'm still living in disbelief that 2003 is infact that long ago.
I am 52 years old. Loved the original, but I like this version better. It has more power and passion.
They certainly did make it their own while playing homage to the original
I'd like to know what you think of Edge of Seventeen by Jonas and Careless Whisper by Seether. Those are 2 covers that I like a lot.
Lyrics
Nobody on the road
Nobody on the beach
I feel it in the air
The summer's out of reach
Empty lake, empty streets
The sun goes down alone
I'm driving by your house
Though I know you're not home
I can see you
Your brown skin shining in the sun
You got your hair combed back and these
Sunglasses on baby
I can tell you
My love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone
I never will forget those nights
I wonder if it was a dream
Remember how you made me crazy
Remember how I made you scream
Now I don't understand what happened to our love
But baby, when I get you back
I'm gonna show you what I'm made of
I can see you
Your brown skin shining in the sun
I see ya walkin' real slow smiling at everyone
I can tell you
My love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone
Out on the road today
I saw a Black Flag sticker on a cadilac
A little voice inside my head said don't look back
You can never look back
I thought I knew what love was
What did I know
Those days are gone forever
I should just let 'em go but
I can see you
Your brown skin shining in the sun
You got the top pulled down and the
Radio on baby
I can tell you
My love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone
I can see you
Your brown skin shining in the sun
You got your hair slicked back and those wayfarers on baby
I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone
Yeah yeah yeah..
The only lyrics changed from the original by Don Henley was a Deadhead (a Grateful Dead fan) sticker The Ataris changed it to a Black Flag sticker...

The distortion on the rhythm guitar in the chorus is magical.
I'm 94 years old, I first heard this song in the trenches of the somme, these young folk do credit to the old timey melody that kept us going.
Someones taking the piss
When a cover of an old song has gotten old and still sounds this good, that song is legendary. Good that people still are listening, sanity still exists.
Great energy. Often bands just lack the proper intensity for a cover, this one rocks out.
fun fact: don henley wasn't happy they changed Grateful Dead to Black Flag.
I believe that you meant Black Flag to Grateful Dead. Cheers, mate.
But it makes sense for them....they are a much younger band in a different genre
Screw Don Henley
Nobodies bitching about which version is better. That's a testament to how good this song really is. Both treatments reveal a great original piece of songwriting.
Just discovered this jewel today at 16 yrs old. New favorite song!!
I’m so glad you found it! I’m 20 and have been listening to both the cover and original since my dad had this playing one day when I was really young. Such a good song, I’m glad people are still discovering it, especially in our generations.

I first listened to this song when I was 14 maybe and I just now decided to look it up. I'm 17 now lol.
Oh hell yeah. Welcome to the early 00’s
The original was 19 years old when this cover was done. As of writing this comment, the cover is now 19 years old. It's crazy, how is it back in '03, the 80s seemed like forever ago while today in '22, the 00s seemed like they just happened...
so true
Try being someone who was 15 in 84 with Don Henley's original. 40 years have flashed by.
This song reminds me of summer of 03. Just got my license and my bestfriend ( who's a girl) had her cousin from across the country stay for the summer. Fell in love for the first time. I remember her playing this song in my car just the two of us. I knew the don henly version but this one stuck. Best summer of my life. Never saw her again after that year. So bitter sweet now.
I remember blasting this on the way to see my girlfriend at her college an hour away from mine. driving WAY to fast, windows down- pure happiness. we have been together since and that was 18 years ago :)
