I used to own a 1998 rs50 when I was 16, such a brilliant bike, I remember it used to hit 60mph, 65 in a windy day lol

I rode that thing back in 2000. It had 80 cc cylinder and topped at 130 km/h.

@@LRS7B , yep, it was fast! Tomos mopeds made for the race track topped at 160 km/h with 50cc.

My older brother bought his 1996 Max Biaggi replica brand new, and handed it down to me back in ‘99 when he got a car. I abused the bike and dropped it some many times without a care, just thinking of it as another “appliance” to get to places, rather than the piece of art it really was. I wish I took better care of it back then.
I have a R6 now, but every few months I find myself actively looking for Aprilia RS 50 videos

I find this thing so cool despite the fact that it has essentially the same top speed as my road racing bicycle. It sounds almost the same as my little sisters 50cc Aprillia scooter too, lol.

I remember when I was 15 and I thought sport mopeds were so silly. Back then in Sweden they were restricted to one (1) horsepower and 30 km/h😏 But today, 35 years later at age of 51. I get it and I really would like to have one. But of course😊 Unrestricted and tuned 80cc 2-stroke sport moped/motorcycle with motorcycle registration so it’s street legal.

I'm American and live in the US. We have those here but they are very very hard to find and overpriced. Never seen one in person here. Only on the classifieds for sale. I have a friend in the UK and I visited a few times. Mind you, I have ridden motorcycles and owned a few for 20+ years. I go to the UK one time to visit and my friend's friend (you would call them a mate) invited us over. We go over and we walk through the garage and I saw the bike. I was like "Woah woah is that an RS50??". He says its his brothers. He grabs his brother and it turns out he has a full license and has the 80cc kit on it and an upgraded rear sprocket. I ask him if I could take it for a spin. He said sure. Well I come back and he is like, "So where did you go?". I said, "Well, I took it on the M54. Man this thing is fast!". He goes, "The M54 have you gone mad??". I go, "Yea! This bike goes well over 70 MPH". He goes, "My bike is going to go to old bill you keep that up, yea?". Hahaha! Great bike though. Always wanted one. He let me take it out a few more times but stayed off the motorway.

I had the Telefonica Moviestar Repsol one back in 2005 when I was 15. Great little bikes, provided they're looked after. The crank imploded on mine

Nice bike and video. I have a 2000 RS50 with about 1200 miles, all original. Sadly, most of these bikes were beat to shit by teenagers and modders.

This kid in my hometown (US, Gloucester County, NJ) had a 2006 RS50, I was in my 20s at the time and he was 15, kid was always hanging out with us because we had a bunch of bikes.... I got to ride that thing, while it was gorgeous for a little bike, and obviously awesome because it was 2t, is was dreadfully slow (and I only weighed probably 165lbs), but he had aftermarket expansion chamber exhaust on it, it sounded awesome, just could barely get to 60mph.... doesn't mean at 42 I still wouldn't want one, though I'd rather have the RS250 😅

@@SimplicityForGood to get it to 100 all you need to do is remove the ring in the exhaust which is the limiter. It's actually not even healthy for these bikes to keep them running with the limiter. I only removed the limiter ring and it would hit 95KMH in winter, 100 in summer :)

hi all. I recently bought an Aprilia RS50 moped after sitting for 3 years. It drives great, started from the pushrod even without rebuilding the carburetor. but there is one problem, it won't start with the button. I found the location of the starter relay on the left side on the back side of the frame, apparently it is attached with a screw to the plastic battery niche. Has anyone found out how to remove it? without dismantling the entire moped?

had the 2003 model for 2 years. Dont remember the mileage i did with it but probably around 7000KM. Never had the slightest issue with it. Just let the engine warm up, especially when it's cold out. I had ZERO failures with it.
