I've hunted with a old.270 Savage model 110 since I was in my early 20's and i am getting ready to turn 50 in a few months. People can say what they want But Savage shoots straight and lasts for a long time !

I had same back in 1978 110 or 111 .270 left hand was great had to give up ,sale. Was dumb. I even made hand loads with an old Lee Loader . Block wood plastic hammer and the yellow powder cups. Crap im old .

I have a 99 in 243, 110 in 243 and 30 06. They are all awesome. Unfortunately, I have a Savage Axis in 308 and the new ones aren't the same. Groups like this one does. I have two Ruger Americans and they both group very tight.

The ballistics on 7mm-08 with a high B.C. bullet runs pretty good. Like close to 300 W.M. good, on paper and targets. Now, I say this without actually firing it at 1500 yards. I sold the one I had years ago, but if memory serves it is capable, (I did not shoot it for distance), with the right bullet, of that kind of range.
My 308 with 175gr Matchkings has been out to 1100 yrds recently, and the 7mm-08 is a necked down 308. 7mm bullets have some good B.C. for weights. I'm really interested to see how the Ruger does on velocity. What is the barrel length?

I chose the Ruger Predator Go Wild ($150more than regular American) because it comes w/cerakoted,threaded barrel & muzzle break but mostly the AICS mags, can get 5 or 10 round mags.

Apples to oranges....put the Accu trigger on the Savage and the groups will shrink to those of the Ruger or better. For $200 less I will take the Savage and do a $100 trigger job and buy 4 boxes of ammo for the same result. In either case, at 100 yds it's a dead deer. Since I'm a left-handed shooter I opt for Savage almost always because of the wide selection of leftie models available for the same money.

7-08 is my favorite all-around cartridge, and noted for tunability with handloads, to make it very accurate. Very similar to 6.5 Creedmoor, 6.5x55 Swede, .260 Remington. Again, Ruger American rifle is Ruger's best action design. And I've been a fan of hammer-forged barrels since my days shooting a Winchester National Match rifle in .308 Win.

Get some clamp on recoil devices for those guns and take your boys to a long range shooting with leadsleds.. and full length bed both guns as a project.. all it takes is bedding compound, plenty of it since u r filling the stocks, tape, q-tips, sanding paper, shoeshine, paper towels and some gloves.. maybe u can even duracoat and camopaint the ruger..

If I may offer a caution with the Savage Axis,...I have seen a couple of these that snapped off right at the pistol grip area, when dropped from about 3 feet to frozen ground. If you hunt/shoot in cold weather, you might want to think about this. So, I'd suggest you have a close up look at that area on the polymer stocks as used for the Axis line of rifles.
      Buyer beware!
If my saying this offends anyone, I'll delete this at once.

This happened to a friend of mine as he was taking his rifle from the trunk of his car, he dropped it, it landed butt first and snapped off like a carrot right near the rear of the receiver at the tang. Look at one and you will see the factory separation there where the trigger/receiver meet.

Just to pass on some accuracy info from my savage axis in 7mm-08. The weaver scope and rings that came on it were loose from the factory. I ended up running a Leupold 3-9, until it was broken from falling off a bench at the range, and then a Vortex 2-7 in Leupold base and rings. When I started shooting off a rest I could see the cross hairs dip as I pulled the trigger. I eventually found that the rear bedding pillar was too long. This allowed the trigger assembly to rock on the pillar and lift the back of the action. After removing the rear pillar/sleeve and sanding off a small amount, just enough to get it slightly below the surface of the stock, I could feel it draw the action down solid against the stock.

Hey who tee and audience with axis , when the axis first came out i got a 22-250 axis for paddock bashing and varminting. I did notice a few crappy things about it top of the list was the heavy 6lb trigger that was not adjustable. It came with a really shity bushnell scope groups were irratic just not consistant getting inch groups or bigger. I really wanted to get better put a redfield 4-12×42 on it much better than the bushnell that was on it but still keeping with the budget theme, but the thing that really changed the performance was installing a timney ttrigger i cant say enough good things about it its such a nice crisp breaking trigger that is fully adjustable have all my triggers at 2.5lbs the axis shoots so nice now inch or less when im on with hornady vmax varmint express @ 100m. Was just gona use it and upgrade but with the changes i made and how it shoots ive kept hanging onto it. Best regards all damo

I also have 2 7MM-08. My oldest is also a Ruger American; my newest one is a Weatherby... but I haven't shot it yet. I can't find scope bases for it! FYI, Academy here in San Antonio has Hornady Whitetail ammo, 139 gr and as of today they increased the limit to 4 boxes per day. Why don't you get some of that and compare to the outcome of this video??? Or I can drop off a box on my way passing through TN this Sunday heading to my folks in WV... just let me know.

Just picked up some Norma .22LR on the way home from a little league game. It's not one of the big box hunting stores but it's not a Mom & Pop place either. The store didn't even try to gouge and they had a lot of other ammo in stock. Could it be????

I took my Caldwell Lead Sled out yesterday for the first time and sighted in my Weatherby Vanguard in 30-06 also for the first time and started at 25 yards, moved out to 100 yards and had it dead on in a total of 8 rounds! Sighting in my Weatherby Vanguard in .243, different story...let's just say and have to go back again and start from scratch lol

Good shooting that ruger definitely likes them rounds! I still think you should get a mosberg 404 series another budget gun. I have one in .270 and love the trigger and it shoots well. Nickle plated fluted barrel , muzzle break or not and beautiful black synthetic cutout stock picked it up for $438.00 Canadian dollars on sale!

My Savages don't like factory ammo, I hand load for them and get 1/4 inch groups. With my Axis II in 6.5 Creedmoor I had to stiffen the forestock and do a little bedding job on the action but she flings those boolots into tiny little groups now. I'm becoming very interested in 7mm-08 since I don't have one and it looks like a great cartridge. That may be what I try out the Ruger American with. I wonder how well it will shoot when I apply those little improvements and hand load for it? One hole groups I would bet.
