      @megastick9324 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Exactly, some because they aren’t expensive enough for bragging rights, some just didn’t like the looks of th old barrel nut , which is funny, because the barrel adjustment is what makes them so accurate.

      @@John_Redcorn_ ahh, didn’t know that, but I know , since I was a kid, a long time ago, Savage was always known for inherent accuracy.
      But , since they weren’t as “ pretty “ as, say a BDL, and cost a lot less, only people that were concerned with getting a good rifle for affordable prices, and target shooters, who would use the actions for builds, were buying them.
      I’m no gunsmith by a long shot, and only know the barrel thing from reading and listening, but Savage has always been a great value.

    Savage has some of the most accurate barrels for the price on the market, I’ve always liked them, mix them with the accutrigger on the Axis 2 (and higher end models) it makes for a very fine rifle.

    • @megastick9324
      @megastick9324 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Very true. I’ve noticed quite a few people buy them as the base to a target build. Savage has always been known for above par accuracy.
      But some can’t get past the looks of the barrel nut on the older ones ( which is exactly what made them shoot so good), or, the low price of even their 10/110 series rifles scares away the snobs because if it doesn’t cost thousands , it has no bragging rights.
      All my savages are shooters, I’ll keep them. They all shot

    I have the same rifle in 6.5 creedmoor. I put a 15 dollar mcarbo trigger spring kit in it (trigger pull was too heavy for my liking) and put a boyds stock on it. And now im getting 3 round groups all touching in a penny like your plates are set up. At 100 yards. Using hornady match ammo. I also upgraded the scope to a vortex crossfire II my son gonna try to take a deer with it this year. The polymer stock on my 6.5 was warped and rubbing the barrel and messed with the groups so i put a boyds spikecamp stock on. Made it much more accurate rifle. Lots of people hate savage rifles but I've always had good luck with them. I have an older model axis in 30/06 it has taken 5 deer and dropped them all where they stood. Im looking ot add a ruger american to my Arsenal next.

    Originally I was very skeptical of these Savage Axis guns. I figured with such a great price they had to be junk. I started with a 30-06. I've really grown to love the gun for Elk. Then we got my Boy .17 HMR. He can practically Drive tackas with that thing. Then we bought him the very same gun you're shooting, the Axis .243. It's been an awesome deer rifle for him.

    I love my Axis in .270. Added the M Carbo pro Trigger kit and removed enough material from the barrel channel to be sure its absolutely free floated. Removed the recoil pad and stuffed 3lbs of sand in baggies in there. It balanced the rifle nicely. Also helped a lot with recoil. Hand loads at .5moa all day long. Group therapy is good for all of us.

    I shot a Savage Axis in 25/06 for many years. It was very accurate and had zero issues with it. I sold it to my brother in law because he wanted it and I bought a Savage Storm in 270WSM it's also deadly accurate shooting ragged holes at 100 yds. I've never had an inaccurate Savage. Wish I could say that for a lot of other manufacturers.

    Hey WTW!! Those scope reticles are "suspended" by springs. When you make an adjustment, you are increasing or decreasing the tension on the springs. Those springs have a certain amount of "binding" and "hysteresis" in them. If you take a plastic handled screwdriver or small plastic hammer and lightly tap on the adjustment screws (with the plastic part of the screwdriver or hammer), after you make an adjustment, it will take the "Jump" out of the scope reticle before the next shot. The result will be that your next shot placement will be closer to the crosshairs.
    I always make about 3-4 taps on each screw (windage AND elevation) after each adjustment. Saves time and ammo when sighting in your rifle/scope package, and I've never had any problems with scope life or reliability by doing this.
    Hope this helps and God Bless!!

Brought it home and completely disassembled it and cleaned - lubed and then loctited everything and mounted a 20 year old tried and true 3x9x40 Simmons scope. Not crazy about the two piece rings that came with it but locktited them as well. Have not had the chance to try it out yet but if it shoots as well as yours I will be satisfied.

    Bore sighing 'high rise' scope mount a different anamal. Myself place high rise scope mounts when rifle has factory iron sights, e.g., Marlin 30.30.
    Always can utilize iron sights via scope failure while in the feild.
    Had a trip and fall and damaged scope, I finished daily hunt via iron sights. Later went to hospital, two stitches in my head.

    Awesome video as always. I recently picked up a Savage Axis ii with the acu trigger, chambered in 350 Legend. Can’t wait to take it to the range. I’ll let you know what kind of groups I can get with it.

    Make sure to tighten the weaver bases and use LockTite. Had mine come loose on my .308 Axis. It was all over the place and cost me a deer at 125yrds.

    This was, indeed, a very fun video! EXCELLENT results! I am so eager to go test my Savage Axis XP .308 in hardwood (wally clearance hee hee hee). Ironically, I have a Weatherby Vanguard Select .30-06 in synthetic (wally clearance, also) to compare for accuracy. You make some very fun and relevant videos. Thank you and Happy New Year! Grace and Peace 😊

    The MOA for that Savage is enviable for even the most expensive rifles. What are the boys at Savage doing to those barrels to achieve that level of consistency? I reckon even Jed Clampett would be proud to use that rifle to pick the wings off of flies.

    me and my dad use savage rifles and they are amazing! I have the 243win axis (the older gen that had the bushnell scope) and my dad has the 110e in 270win and these rifle are very accurate while still being at a good price (around 300 cad in 1988 for my dad's and around 500 cad for mine(scope included))

    LGS got one for under $300. I got a Rossi matched pair .243 and I like it a lot, thought about getting this but I’ve already got a .357 Mag on layaway and a new Bond Arms Rowdy XL on layaway too. It would be interesting to see a video showing the Hornady Varmint ammo, 58gr at 4,000fps would be a great round to smack stuff with

    If the axis doesn't have the accu-trigger you can get the M-CARBO spring kit for it and drop the trigger pull down to about 2 pounds. Watch the m-carbo spring kit video on TH-cam. Great video by the way.

    Nice! That's impressive, cheap rifle or not, that's exactly what a shooter wants from their rifle.
    Talkin' about Tennessee, I wish I had more time off, I came down there from MI beginning of June to buy a Deuce and a half from a fella in New Tazewell. Stopped at Kats kitchen for breakfast and my god, y'alls food is so good, lol, best biscuits and gravy I ever had! Would've been nice to stop out at Heavy Metals shop and check it out and the range, but I only had 3 days off and 700 miles to drive a big beast back home, lol.

    Cool video Adam! The majority of my bolt action rifles are Savage - you could say that's my "go to" brand like Ruger Americans are for you. I really like the Axis with the accu-triggers. If you ever get the chance to get one of those you should give it a try. Keep the videos coming my friend!!
