I think the real problem behind Tanacon was that no event organizer should EVER be excited at the prospect of their guests being inconvenienced, even if said organizer "loves that shit". As an organizer your number 1 priority is the hospitality of ALL your guests.
Not only that, but if he's in charge of the entire company and he had so many issues with how Tana was handling herself and she wasn't even paying him--why didn't he say anything? If you're a business professional and your partner is not pulling their weight or doing what you need them to do to achieve the end goal, you DEFINITELY do NOT just keep saying everything's under control, everything's fine, everything will be done on time.
That's because no professional planning company will be crazy enough to take on planning a convention for 5000 people (on the same day and within walking distance of vidcon) with only 2 months to prepare. Better companies knew on first look that this was going to be a shit-show so they stayed as far from it as possible.
Nofxthepirate exactly my point. You’re over booking your event and over selling tickets for the spectacle instead of actually providing an entertaining experience to keep your customers...Thats how you know everything they do is fake and for the cameras. All they care about is the footage while they destroy their lives and everybody else’s behind the camera.
Ceci S He even tried to make her move the event to a different weekend to give them more time but tana was adamant that it be the same weekend as Vidcon. It was destined to fail from the start.
Yea.. the Tanacon thing, selling 5x as many tickets as the venue holds. That should be illegal. Just like airlines selling more tickets than the plane can seat. Highly unethical and everyone hates it.
that would be the best answer to these kinds of shitty situations... hmmm wonder why it isn't? perhaps cause our whole government is run by businesses/greedy immoral people who do shitty stuff like that or something...? :/
If you read the Veeps terms and conditions they have a section about code of conduct and it says that event coordinators agree not to “Offer Packages that do not comply with venue or event space at which they are to take place.” By overselling tickets they knowingly broke that agreement. So legally, they broke the terms and conditions of the ticket company (however idk what consequences, if any, there actually are because it wasn’t stated in the terms and conditions)
At this moment, there is a group of navy seals, which one of them is also a certified doctor, stay with the kids. Basic medical supply, drink water, and power gels have been brought in the spot to strengthen up their health. As philip said, to rescue them out is almost impossible due to the water level in the cave. Even the seals who are heavily trained for any circumstances, still took almost a half day to dive from chamber no.3 to where the kids stay. First action plan is to pump the water out off the cave, so that the kids can walk out or do a few dives only when necessary. Second action is to search for holes on the mountain that can lead to nearest location to the kids in the cave and pull them out.
Phil only does 15 minute shows 5 days a week, he won't have time to cover every update to this story. For something like this, the BBC would be a better source since they are 24/7, and you really can't do biased reporting of a rescue operation.
Bobking11 lol u could totally do bias media coverage on this story... say something goes wrong on this rescue mission.. people will want answers, that unfortunately may not be made 100 percent public right away
i cant imagine for 10 days trapped in a dark cave with no food or clean water, how many hours is that minutes seconds just waiting, waiting for what rescue that might not even come or death. i can't fathom the mental strength to stay sane, it could break an adult but children HOW, i assume the 25 year old young man had a lot of responsibility in keeping the kids calm HOW DID THEY DO IT. BTW what did they do for bathroom, sometimes what humans are capable of under extreme pressure is extra ordinary. You can't survive for this long only to die later, I am sure they will find a way GOOD LUCK BOYS.
as a diver i can say that if the divers who have actually traversed the cave say that they should wait, then they should wait. if they said that they could get the kids out, then they should get the kids out. the boots on the ground always have more information about the specifics than any of the higher ups.
ex Lightning In theory yes... However, in practice there is a LOT to go wrong. Getting a non swimmer through conditions that professionals struggle with... There are so many, many ,MANY, things that can and will go wrong. They can preemptively pump out water if the water will rise futher, but thats the safest option if the divers are struggling.
What an amazing story out of Thailand. That video of the boys being found made me cry. It's remarkable how persistent everyone was and really has shown the strength of the international community coming together. Let's just hope they can get out safely as soon as possible!
I literally started crying when he showed the clip of the diver finding the 13 people. I hope they make it out okay. Cave diving isn't something that should be rushed.
I love Shane Dawson, so much....but....are we ignoring the fact that in his tweet he said he checked with Tana before including that incriminating clip? What if there are other clips that brought more evidence to light that she didn't want to be included. Tana & Shane are friends, it's biased information in my opinion. I respect the work & good intentions of Shane but it can't be ignored.
Porcelain I’m not disagreeing with you and I do think that’s strange but Shane may have wanted to check with Tana because he didn’t ask her about it during the initial interview. He did have a lot of conflicting arguments coming at him from multiple sides and that included with his own thoughts and feelings which could be why he missed that before hand or he may not have known about it until he received the clip. But at the end of the day we don’t know. I really hope he didn’t leave out any evidence though just to help a friend.
You make some good points, but are his intentions really "good" if he says he wants to find the truth and yet, as you suggest, might have possibly left clips out at her request?
Yeah, I do agree with that, I just wish it wasn't so biased, I know Shane has good intentions but it's like come on, forget for a second that she is your friend, just imagine it in the mind of the fans and be harsh towards her, she knows that she has people with bigger name than her that are "on her side"[Don't know how to phrase it], every time she did something wrong, she only get slap on the wrist by them. Like there's nothing wrong being harsh to your friends on these type of situation if it meant that your words will get inside their head. And the fact that some mindless fans or people who watch the videos just subscribe to her is just, bizarre.
The way I understood was that he checked what she meant at the moment like what do you mean you wanted ppl outside? Not checking if he was allowed to use that piece of footage.
Thank you so much for the suspenseful story about the poor Thai boys. I had heard about it, but not with anything like this much detail. I am so glad they found them and hope they all make it out healthy and without any lasting mental anguish. This will for sure be turned into a movie.
Did you see the video from when the divers found them? What a sight that must have been...They are going to turn this into a movie for sure and I would gladly pay to see it (if some of the cash went to the boys of course).
Brittany and Michael Vlogs Shane just wanted to share the truth, it's not his job to help some rich public figure feel crappy. Especially if it's his friend. Honestly people should just stop following her, she doesn't deserve it
Yea I thought it was a bit biased really. He made a good documentary series on it and he’ll be someone who profits pretty good out of the event but it would have been better if it were done by someone on neutral ground so to speak.
Brittany and Michael Vlogs as a Shane Dawson fan I totally agree. I definitely think he's babying her. I think both tana and the Michael guy fucked up and maybe they did it on purpose. I don't know. But it's what you get for throwing a tantrum tantrum because of it come.
Gonna be honest with you here Tana, I don't like waiting outside in the summer, with no AC, no Fan and no water, just to get into a con that's basically a hallway. It didn't even have a ballpit guys!
it's awesome to see so many countries rally together to save these 13 people, I just wish our nations leaders cooperated on all matters this enthusiastically
By not learning of all the dangers and not taking precautions is how you end up getting people killed, especially when you're supposed to be the one saving them. I'm glad they're taking their time with this, to just ride it out and avoid complications or harm to these kids. I'm happy you're not in charge of anything like this @Chris Bogausch.
I think there’s no point in trying to defend either of them beyond, two spoiled individuals that need to grow up. The whole confrontation between Tana and Michael was them just pointing the finger. If you want to get technical, yes. Micheal is the company owner and her should’ve known better but that doesn’t change the fact that Tana was aware of the situation and didn’t handle the situation appropriately. I think that it also has to do with the fact that it wasn’t her own money being spent. I think she needs to stop pointing the finger and she needs take full responsibility and apologize to her fans.
If you go to the good times company website you can see that Tana knew Michael way before this. She appears in many photos in other previous events with Michael . She was even a model while advertising some merchandise from one of his other clients!!! The Good Times company published an apology on June 24. On their website. Shane didn’t add this on his videos just to make that Dude look bad and Tana as a naive girl. Shane is helping Tana and making her look as the victim of a scam when in reality she is the mastermind behind TanaCon and hiring her friend to plan the event.
You forget that this is America if you have Money and are well-known you are above the law. They should both be in jail but it doesn't look like they are going to be.
In regarding of the cave story, from the Thai news I heard the coach sacrifice food and water for the kids. He also told the kids to meditate and lay down for most of the time to save their energy. He taught them how to find clean water and only use one flash light at a time to mostly check the water level (all 13 of them brought a flashlight in). So after ten days, not surprising but the coach was the only one in somewhat bad condition. The rescue team on site also believe that the 12 kids would have been in much worse condition without the coach guidance.
+Bee P Thank you for writing your comment, I can't fucking believe this I have no idea how to- dammit. This is the most wretchedly heartbreaking news I've seen in a while. I'm sorry and I just cannot rationalize the fear and pain they must've been... are still going through. I hope that water clears out much, much faster than expected. I hope you're safe and that you sleep well tonight.
I'm glad he at least knew something to help them, and wasn't a complete douchebag. I was so happy to know that they were finally found, but the coach was so irresponsible.
PLEASE KEEP US UPDATED ON THOSE CHILDREN IN THE CAVE! INSTANT CHILLS! HOW INCREDIBLE! I'll be thinking of them and hoping for their safe return. How scary that situation must be for them!
As someone who's acquired some level of expertise in watching people manipulate, shift blame, interrupt others, love bomb, gaslight, and do just about everything they can to SOUND innocent and well-meaning while not a SINGLE action demonstrates that -- watching the way that third episode was edited and the note it ended on was angering. It became clear Shane fell for Tana's bullshit after staying strong for a day or two. All of Michael's claims went fact-checked, 75% of the nonsense coming out of Tana's face went unverified and just blindly believed bc it makes an interesting conspiracy. She's made an entire career on taking half truths and convincingly blowing them up into a monster story to portray her crazy "how does this happen to me?!?!?!" life. They both fucked up. Royally. But Michael had WAY more to lose and she just has to wait through a storm and come out better. She doesn't really HAVE to care, and it's clear she doesn't reeeeally. This is on-brand for her. At the end of the day, he should've said he couldn't handle a task like this, was in way over his head, and that if she wants this to happen she's going to have to find someone else to do it. And, SHE should've done her research, figured out why is his team so small, what can he handle, why is he so young, what have other people said about working with him, what happens if we have issues, has he ever done an event of this size, what about in two months, etc. So, the ultimate responsibility falls on her for HIRING someone with no trusted credentials to even pull this off safely. But she was so hungry to get back at VidCon, she just took the first person to say yes (since no one else would). It become less about her supposedly being involved and occasionally asking him questions and him giving bad answers along the way, and instead the fact she hired such an inept team, with no money, no experience in this realm, to lose to do something impossible, even when people's lives are at stake. What he did after that is irrelevant when that right there is the first decision that never should've been made. And that decision was hers.
Kaalyn - OPG this is the best explanation/comment I've read concerning this issue. Tana makes her money by selling bullshit stories that may have a tiny bit of truth to it, but not much. Obviously, she is going to do the same thing with this whole debacle.
Great summary, Phil. My uncle lives in Chiang Mai which is near the town where the people were lost in the cave. My mom is there visiting right now and as you can imagine they’ve been following this closely with everyone in Thailand. Everyone is is so thrilled the boys are alive and safe but it’s way more complicated than most people initially think to get them out. You hit on a lot of the issues. They are also worried about breathing since there’s no vent so they are bringing oxygen to them too. They’ve run fiber optic cable to them to get them light. It’s an amazing story and it’s great that they’ve been found. Thanks for your great coverage as always.
In my opinion, Ultimately, Tana was the most responsible. SHE chose good times . SHE didn't leave them even if they did bad stuff like she says he did. SHE knew about the capacity and WANTED people to wait outside . That's just my opinion
Now she's going around saying that they lied to her and told her to keep her mouth shut during Tanacon or something. Honestly, I never heard of her before- But I already don't like her, first impression-wise.
I agree. Plus her name is on it and she's the face of it. She would have taken all the glory, credit and congratulations if it had been a success, wouldn't she? Same applies if it's an utter shit show that's dangerous. I despise how she's trying to find any reason to place blame elsewhere and try to get out of it, all the while claiming she's responsible. Ugh. She's so annoying. I can't wait until the lawsuits start flowing in, because if she thinks she's getting out of those, she's sorely mistaken.
The things I've picked up from TanaCon (and yes, I've watched all of Shane's videos, so I'm getting more than just Phil's take on things.) 1. Tana was being spiteful trying to hold her con at the same time as VidCon, and wanted to spite them so badly, she didn't care how irrational it was to try to throw a convention in such a short amount of time. Had she waited until even next year, and still held it the same time as VidCon, it probably would have succeeded. 2. Tana was being lazy/naive/stupid handing the reins over to a young kid while she went on vacation and partied rather than working on the con 3. It should have been a giant red flag that they were planning the con in her living room. That reeks of unprofessionalism to me, but maybe that's just me, and to me would have had me wondering if he really knew what he was doing. 4. No matter how much they were 'joking' they knew they were overselling, plus Tana promising free entry online guaranteed this was never going to end any other way than it did, and they were lucky more people didn't get hurt. 5. Tana is NOT taking full responsibility. Taking full responsibility, by its very definition, means she wouldn't keep pointing a finger at Michael constantly. 6. Michael is entirely too inexperienced to have thrown together a convention in such a short amount of time and should have refused to continue the job once he realized how many things were going wrong, if for no other reason than self-preservation. 7. I firmly believe Michael continued despite knowing things were going very wrong because he wanted to be attached to helping create a massively successful convention that would rival VidCon. That would have skyrocketted his company's reputation. Greed and hubris led to the failure of the convention.
1050 capacity means even 1000 tickets would be packed and crowded for ticket buyers. Its ridiculous and pisses me off everytime I hear about it. Tana and Michael are both in the wrong. #TanaConned #idiots
As someone who is familiar with diving, caving, and cave diving I can say that it is in no way safe for the children to go through that water. The seals going through that water is extremely dangerous already. I wouldn't feel comfortable having the navy seals go through that because of how dangerous it is.
I’m not a big fan of Wal-Mart but the ppl getting mad at them for selling those anti-Trump shirts are the same ppl who get mad at Rotten Tomatoes when a movie gets a bad score.
Troy McClure Lol they have partisan shirts for both sides at Walmart. They didn’t have impeach Obama shirts because the pressure for that cause was not nearly as strong as an impeach trump one is today. It’s classic capitalism and supply and demand. Please educate yourself
Clearly you didn't watch the video. The shirts were made, sold & shipped by a 3rd party. They are just listed on their website. They are not sold IN Walmart, they are sold on the website. Logic, there is none.
The worst part is they were down there in the pitch black darkness for 10 days beforehand. I'm pretty sure at that point they had all came to the conclusion they were gonna die down there.
I really want to hear their side of the story. If one of them writes a book I will happily read it. Whats insane to think is the adventure still isn't over for them. But I can't imagine coming to the conclusion of "oh hey im going to die here."
One time I had back surgery and before it you basically have to sign your life away. I asked for a summary(yes I read it, just asked 1st) they told me it states you could possibly get an infection but that NEVER happens, it's just a legality, no worries. 2 weeks later, I was rushed into emergency surgery to remove the infection that never happens. If you have to sign it, assume it will happen & plan for it. Then you can be happy if the 'just for legal reasons' don't.
Same. It's a miracle that all 13 of them are alive and relatively well. I was expecting at least some of them to have died after ten days of being trapped down there. Here's hoping that they all will be able to go safely back to their families.
In all of Shanes videos Tana is saying shes taking responisibility for it and that its her fault... But continuously points fingers and blames others... Lmao
Squibbs Walker yeah I dipped out of his trilogy a little into the second video when I correctly predicted Tana was just going to be trying to save face the whole time
She did say she should've done more research into the company and trusted people who told her not to work with GT. Honestly, most of the fault does fall on the company who organized this shit show. Tana doesn't know anything about real and big stuff like this, it would make sense for her to "trust" someone who says they can do it. Personally, I think Tana should be more involved and invested more time in supervising (is this the right word?) what GT was doing. And I feel like that's what she is talking about when taking full responsability, you know? I have to admit though, that as much as I try not to, I'm not fully unbiased, so I might be going easy on her.
As someone who worked at Walmart, customers not understanding that they can't walk into the store and find every single last one of the millions of obscure products that the website lists just laying around on our shelves is one of the most frustrating things. You can even see in the freakin' screenshots it says "sold and shipped by Old Glory" RIGHT UNDER THE PRODUCT. The amount of rage this crap has caused and the amount of abuse customers throw at employees for this is unreal.
I’m sorry I just cannot give Tana any kind of pass here. And I like Shane but he’s being waaaaaay too easy on her. It doesn’t matter if she was “joking“. What wasn’t a joke is the fact they booked 4000 more people than they had room for. What wasn’t a joke is that Tana and Michael went ahead with the show anyway because they simply did not care. You would have to be the biggest moron in the world not to realize that if you book five times what a venue can hold, people will be stuck waiting outside. No one is saying she had some specific evil plan designed to get people sunburnt and dehydrated, they’re saying that she was unforgivably careless and therefore shares direct responsibility for what happened.
Libertarirynn Videos You're quite right. Whenever there's been people crushed in situations like that, it's not like any of the people involved have actually intended people to get hurt. However, that doesn't stop them being held criminally responsible if they're found to be negligent. Tana is VERY lucky.
I mean the fact that they were filming eachother when planning Tanacon means they weren’t trusting eachother to a 100 therefore wanting receipts on eachother. And thats not a healthy partnership. And an obvious red flag of failure.
Well, Tana was filming everything because she wanted to do a video for her channel, which was expected. Michael had intentions of making a documentary about the whole thing (not sure if he still wants to).
Jaqueline L I mean she said in the video that shane posted that she didn’t trust him. I dont know there is so much to break down and analyze from that video and so much information that doesn’t seem to make sense if you put them together. Im still confused after three videos. I wouldn’t film someone saying stuff like “the capacity is this but we are able to have more in there or should have them wait outside” as something to put in a documentary or a video. That was very weird. And its just a possibility cause it felt like they were filming each-other to have something if anything went wrong. CONSPIRACY THEORY.
Scorpionic Honestly the dude has planned many events (no cons but still shows etc) and has enough experience with contracts to know that there’s simply no way you should EVER sign a contract that says it can handle A FIFTH, 20%, of what the two parties agreed on. If the hotel really claimed it could host 5 times as much as was shown on contract, then anyone with a brain (let alone with his level of experience) knows you should NOT sign that contract because a contract literally is your agreement put onto paper and there’s no reason for it to differ from your agreement by 400%. That tells me the hotel never EVER claimed it could handle 5K because they wouldn’t ever OFFER a contract going 400% over their capacity. That hotel has been in business far longer than Tana Michael have been alive, and there’s no way they’d misjudge their own capacity by that much. It’s all just lies to try and not get sued for fraud.
Issy Phan I agree I mean when I saw that contract at the end of the video I was like that is it, he is getting sued not the marriots, also if he filmed everything why doesn’t he have footage of the marriots promising him that 5000 people could fit there???? Its pretty funny that the most important thing they allegedly promised him he doesn’t have proof off against them. Am I right. Wow. This is unbelievable. I hope everyone gets their money back and a compensation. This is not okay.
Scorpionic exactly! He claims he’s suing the hotel but to sue you need to have proof! Not even an appointed lawyer would take up a case like this. Once you sign a contract that covers 20% of your plans, it means you decide to reduce your plans by 80% and that you take responsibility if overcrowding happens. Imagine the super bowl selling tickets 5 times the amount of seats, and there was a contract and video footage of super bowl management to show they were not only aware but planned this from the start? I’d start law school JUST for that fat ass fraud suit compensation check paying for my children’s college education.
Diving is already difficult, cave diving it straight up dangerous. Experienced divers often lose their lives cave diving, I can't imagine a group of children will do much better, even with experts (even experts lose their lives in the caves, commonly on recovery missions, dragging a hard to maneuver body with them, I don't know if a potentially panicking child would be worse or better...) It seems like a risky situation that might not be successful 13 times. Might be best to help them camp out comfortably until the waters recede.
I couldn't agree with you more, cave diving is probably one of the most dangerous things you could do. Plus the conditions being called "nightmarish" I can't imagine how feasible it would be to get them out safely. It's absolutely incredible tho that they were found and i hope they can make it out soon and safe.
Yes, and when you consider that it's likely skilled cave divers saying it's nightmarish and experienced diver will tell you that is not something to take lightly.
Basic scuba skills do not include cave diving, cave diving is one of the most dangerous, and deadly sorts or diving, and has claimed the life of many highly skilled and experienced cave divers, so the idea of teaching a bunch of young teens, not only scuba, but cave diving, even if the dive conditions were perfect it would seem unlikely that all would make it out alive, I suspect they are better off waiting, since if a child panics, it could likely result in just just their death, but the death of the diver they are with. A cave dive, in the best of conditions, isn't something you rush, or do without tons of planning, so I can't imagine needing to do it under those conditions, especially while trying to escort of a weak and scared child.
I think watching AskAMortitian’s video about cave diving would be enough to make any non-diver realize just how easily things can go wrong in the best conditions and how dangerous it is. If the chamber they’re in isn’t at risk of flooding, I think having experts bring them supplies until monsoon season ends is the best option. It sucks. I can’t imagine being trapped in a cave for up to 4 months, even with food and supplies, but surely it would be worse to rush getting them out and have one or more of them die and/or one or more of the rescue workers die in the attempt.
I’m so annoyed at how Tana, yet again, is seemingly getting off easy. Tana knew the capacity, said she wanted people waiting and yet when shit hit the fan blames everyone else and claims she didn’t know...🙄
Olivia B ...her fans and friends are enabling her continued actions... and she repaid them with... oh yeaaaaa... she hasn't repaid them has she... even the young girl who ended up in the hospital... ouch... *but loyalty first right* ? That last bit is sarcasm for some that just can't...
If you organize an event and you hire people to help you, it's your responsibility. Even if she didn't know, it was still her fault for allowing it to happen at HER event, in HER name, to HER audience. And now it even turns out she thought it was a great idea to 'oppress' her audience like that (wtf?). So, they planned on having thousands of people stuck outside ánd cut back on security. They're so lucky nothing worse happened. With all the shootings and terror attacks lately, creating a large vulnerable group of people without proper security is more than irresponsible. PewDiePie advised her to delete her channel and I agree.
One element that I LOVE about the Philip DeFranco Show, is that he paints a complete, unbiased picture with facts we have at the moment. He takes his time with news stories. I've heard so many people cover the story about the 13 people trapped in the cave system, but no one else took the time to talk out the details, the timeline, and the risk involved. Thank you for such great news coverage! I've been watching for many years now and I can't wait to see your network grow!
Im sorry but the excuse she gave to Shane on that clip is such bullshit. How can you say it jokingly as if waiting for a concert when you know the amount of people who are going to be waiting is FOUR THOUSAND? This is not some situation of some bouncer leaving a crowd of 50ish adults outside waiting outside of a nightclub. This is 4 thousand kids with their parents waiting outside i the summer sun for hours. Tana was not naive. She knew what was going on and Shane needs to stop being this sweet understanding guy and see the bullshit. First I was thinking Tana was an innocent girl who got taken advantage of by some big corporate guy but she was just at fault. People need to stop treating people in their early 20s as kids. THEY ARE ADULTS WHO NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE.
She knew the Good Times company CEO Michael way before TanaCon check the website and see Tana on several photos and even as a merchandise model. SMH they are birds of the same flock
"They are adults" Are they though? They have shown no ability to hold the weight of their own actions, they are breaking down, crying, absolutely terrified and regressing back to what they know is safe. I'm not saying they shouldn't be held accountable, but when someone is broken, I want to show compassion, and acknowledge what they can and can't handle on their own.
Sarah Hardister legally, yes they are. Furthermore, they're taking on adult decisions by attempting to organize something as large as a convention. I assume they're sound enough, so they are responsible for their actions
kemi I’m sorry, but personally, I can’t show compassion to a woman who had thousands of kids in the burning California sun with no food or water. To get compassion, you must give some.
After Shane's last vid I'm disappointed that he didn't grill her for the absolute crap that she did and that came out of her mouth! And that he seemed almost fine with her answers. Idk I'm just disappointed with all of it tbh.
Nothing prepares you for the darkness of caves in not low light its no light. I went caving when i was in boyscout and it was a high venture campout ( had to be at least 14 to attend a high venture outings) we went caving and there was on streach of the cave called the birthing canal. Were two walls came together and a pool of water was at the base, the water was deep and were the two cave walls meet under the water was a 3foot wide 4 foot long passage completely submerged. And threw the passage was the rest of the cave network. It was the freakiest thing ive done of my own free will having to hold your breath and feel around to get threw the passage. Those kids are already very brave for staying calm and collected for 10 days. Its awesome to hear they were found.
n ackermann thank u for making such an informative comment, it gives a deeper insight to what those kids went through. Also, thanks bcos most of everyone else seem to be yelling at phil for covering a bit of tanacon, but that's all most of them commented about and nearly no feedback on the rest of the news.
Cave diving is honestly one of the most terrifying & dangerous things in the world its an actual miracle people didn't die during the search/accident. I'd rather be burned to death than get stuck in the caves.
a while ago i watched a documentary and i believe it was said that cave diving is one of the most dangerous "sports" in the world where even certified cave divers have a high risk of fatality. its been a while since ive seen it but it was really interesting. So cant imagine how kids from 11-16 old who are weakened would have to get through caves underwater. Hope everything will be alright in the end
ManlyWonderland Yet in a documentary that he promotes as "finding out the truth about Tanacon", one shouldn't be biased. Because ya know.. Favoring somebody will not help you at revealing the truth
Agree! Tana has her own platform and thousands of die hard fans that will follow her no matter the mistake, while Michael is just a behind the scenes guy who is an easy scapegoat. She could have hired anyone, but decided a 20 year old influencer manager would be great to throw this all together in a month. Shane is coddling her and no matter how unbiased he could try to be, at the end of the day he is still a friend.
TwoInThePink Good job that’s a good example but are you okay? You seem angry. You’re either an angsty teen or just an angry person if you’re gonna insult someone who just asked a simple question. I’m not a Shane fan or a Tana fan considering I literally never heard of her until this situation.
if you want some good news, one of the teenage boys from the hockey team that got in that major bus crash just woke up from a 3-month coma and is in stable condition
ImScottJones I’m sure all the divers involved we’re terrified but when it comes to innocent lives, especially those of children, you gotta do all that you can. I give my to all divers, especially the ones that were involved in the rescue.
As a Shane Dawson fan I feel his emotions are really getting in the way of how Tana, with clear intent, screwed over thousands of people. She's party to this. I see she operated with the same level of malice as Michael only she didn't check to see if the guy she was screwing people with was also screwing her. Shane I think giving them a platform is valuable and allowing people to come to their own conclusions is a creative choice but he promised transparency and I don't think he delivered with the bias he carried as Tana's friend.
In Shane's video she kept saying that people told her about all the 'shady' things that Michael has done and she said people kept saying how bad the idea was the work with him BUT she continued to work with him, she claims she was told multiple times it was a bad idea yet she still went through with it plus it annoyed me because she blamed Michael for saying he could do all the things she wanted but she didn't check BEFORE TANACON that it was all sorted she didn't oversee anything that Michael was doing, all she did was blame him for fucking up... But surely as the person who's the face of this she should have checked everything before the event.
I was so afraid that the Thai rescue was going to turn out bad or be some kind of prank but I nearly started crying with the footage of the British diving finding the 13 people. So glad they are okay and I hope they take their time getting them out 10 day is a long time to be without food and water
Wow...I...I can't even imagine being in that sort of situation. Even the sheer concept of diving under a cave system with 0 visibility. Then the fact that there are 13 children all stuck in a single room. Maybe for 4 months. I hope they get out alright.
Thank you for finally covering the Thai cave rescue story. I wish you spent more time on it because it’s not only the search and rescue in the cave itself that’s incredible but it’s also the support from all the staff and volunteers involved. Thai civilians have provided tremendous help to the rescuers ie. providing their big water pumps for free, doing laundry for the staff for free, camping outside the cave offering food and drinks for free, donating supplies such as healing creams, space blankets etc. when the NAVY SEAL needed them. All the farmers have agreed to let their rice fields be flooded with water from the cave giving the chance of survival to the boys. One farmer is quoted ‘we have to save the boys first. I can let the rice die; I can regrow them.’
About the soccer team story. The media need to shut the hell up about getting those kids out ASAP! If you got got professionals with concerns about what the best course to take. The kids are no longer going to thirst or starve to death. Let pros decide the best course and the media needs to stop putting pressure on them.
I agree, especially when the fact is we can sustain those kids with food and other supplies. Even to the point where we are literally just waiting to get them out. In this scenario where time is not really a factor you need to focus on safety.
+Hater Replicator People lack humility. I'm sure I could come up with five ideas on how to get these people out of the cave. But since I have no idea about how good or bad those ideas are and since there are people taking care of the situation who do know more about these things than I will most probably EVER know I shut up.
I would also add people being ignorant in the comments saying making them wait 4 months is cruel and thinking they know how to get them out faster even though they clearly have no idea how dangerous cave diving is for adult professionals, let alone a bunch of kids. Yes waiting for 4 months in a cave is horrible. But a lot better than the alternative.
The issue is that the rainy season just began, and the pumps are working overtime just to keep the water from flooding in where the kids are, and in the meantime, the extra water being pumped out is flooding miles of farmland. If the rains get worse, the caves might flood even more than they already are. It might be a good idea to get them out asap, even if it's risky. I don't know personally what the best option is, but a lot of smart people are figuring it out. Wish them the best. Just wanted to point out that it may not be so easy as "let them stay till the water dries up."
You can live without food for pretty long. Especially when all you do is sitting in a cave. And they probally had snacks with them. Considering the cave was filled with rainwater they had a pretty safe source of water which is most important to survival.
I'm from Thailand. Some news said the coach used to be monk for 8 years. So he knows how to meditate very well and he taught them. (meditate made you less moving and breath slower, save a lot of energy.) Also before they get in the cave , they bring some food and snacks with them so they can stay a little longer.
The tana con "conspiracy" to me is so ridiculous and it feels like tana isnt being punished nearly enough for all that she did and put her fans through.
The only people who can really hold her accountable are her own fans. Who, might I remind you, are mostly die-hard teen fans who are emotionally invested in some fake one-sided friendship they believe they have with her.
Yep. People close to her and people she never sees ( her fans ) are enabling her... why learn from your mistakes and take actual responsibility by...idk...DOING ANYTHING??? when your loyal lovelies got your back... even when you sunburned their...backs. :]
How amazing is that everywhere around the world came together help find these kids. Thank you Phil for covering the story. I've been following the news for awhile and when they found the kids it was such a great relief seeing all of them. Cried all morning when I woke up to here that amazing news.
Honestly, I'd be stoked to see that happen, especially now that we know, with proof, that safety and well-being of them was never REALLY a priority. At all.
pajamagirl123 Not only civil, but there could be charges if the DA feels that their choice to sell 4and1/2 times more tickets than the venue could hold was intentionally creating a situation where they were going to try to not follow the fire marshals safety requirements for the venue, and also create a crowd of over 4,000 people that had nowhere safe to go. I read somewhere that one of the reasons they didn't have to pull a permit was because they claimed that people would be walking through instead of staying for long periods of time. Yet, in the marketing, they are telling people they can sign up for a specific meet and greet and then stay for any more that they want to go to. Also, the fact that they put in writing that the gift bags would be valued over four times what the customers paid for the VIP passes could be considered a contract. (If I remember correctly) Customers paid $68 for VIP, and therefore were promised to receive gift bags worth over $272.00. After watching many videos showing the bags, and some of the things in them, it is extremely clear TanaCon/GoodTimes did not provide something that could even add up to a value of $68, much less $272. Depending on California's laws, that could be considered fraud. (Sorry this was so long and possibly confusing. With vision problems I have a hard time editing and using voice to text. I would be thankful if anyone that does understand what I was trying to say helped clear up anything I didn't get across properly.)
There are already people getting lawyers and lawsuits being drawn up as we speak. I'm interested to see how many of them are and what they will all be about since there is so much they can get them on! Will be interesting for sure and an ongoing story.
Thank you for covering the Thai rescue story.. I follow Canadian news on tv every day and even after they were found safe, the media did not go into as much detail as you did; nor did they talk about the alternatives to getting them out of the cave. Thank you for shedding a light on this story! I cried when I heard they were all found. This truly was a miracle and we have so many incredible and brave people to thank for that.
I love Shane but it seems he covered a lot for Tana and made it possible for Michael to keep him away from real legal trouble. James Charles did tweet a lot While Shane was with him, so they ALL KNEW that it was disorganised and all over the place....Will Tana change? probably not, will Michael learn?... maybe. Unfortunately, Tana's next video will be her going back to her usual crazy stories...
that's the trend everyone is boycotting everything nowadays you're just fishing for likes because that's the trendy thing. Fake outrage culture is making this planet so tasteless and unfunny. At least she made this mistake and we didn't and we can watch and learn from it without paying from our pocket. I bet right now with this event planning crash course made me well equipped to throw my own small event. I'll know what to ask, how to not get screwed in a contract and how to prepare in case of a disaster.
Hushed Tones I understand that this is a trend, but I also understand boycotting tana and no longer supporting her when this is an example of an outcome! after this, younger children shouldn’t look up to her as an influencer
Phil, you were spot on about your concerns on whether or not people actually learn from their mistakes in this current online, social world. In her case, she doesn't. She's the typical buzzword-using youth who doesn't give a shit about anything. Why should she? She is wealthy for doing almost nothing, and having no real skills. She surrounds herself with similar kids. They sit around, video themselves, and build their egos....or what they call, their "brands."
Yeah, it's kind of depressing to see really. When there's so many other people with actual talent and skills getting nowhere while these talentless schmucks just get rich and public attention. I guess in a way, that is their skill. What really depresses me though is the people that actually look up to or idolize these kinds of people. Imagine how demented and idiotic you have to be to follow someone like Tana. Whatever though, her fans are allowed to do what they please and if they want to support trash like her, than so be it. I do hate all this social media and celebrity stuff. It's all so sad, and meaningless. The culture and people surrounding it are usually just things you wouldn't want to be around. It makes people genuinely less smart, and oftentimes it's revealed that the people who are in high positions of popularity or exposure are usually sad despite what their brand claims. I despise so many things, like Vine stars, music.ly, and so much more.
A lot of it is also is just either fake or void of any real emotion or meaning. The general population seems to love it though. I guess appreciating things/people with actual meaning and good will or intent behind them is outdated.
Those young boys are so strong! Imagine being there age, not able to swim, and not knowing that anyone is searching for you or even knows you're missing. They stuck out 10 days together in the pitch black cave I am so amazed by them and am beyond happy every put in so much effort and was able to find them. Thank you to all the heroes from around the globe. It's amazing what we can do when putting together expertise. Bring back the 13!
In my opinion both tana and the other dude did wrong but tana is more at fault she dropped a fuckton of work onto someone else when it has HER name on it and SHE decided to organize it and she acted like the person who doesn’t do work on a project and gave someone else most of the work to do when she should’ve been more hands on with HER event
I agree with you 110% about Tana--no one is holding her accountable for her actions or *lack* of actions throughout this situation. I just feel so much for the people waiting it that crowd. They were miserable, burnt, and spent up to thousands of dollars to get...nothing. That sucks man.
Pinnacle Of Man TM probably because it had something positive in it, because the Tana thing was just uncomfortable and bleh. Save the good stuff for last.
So? He still covered it well. People get upset when he doesn't talk about certain events all the time and now you're upset that it didn't get as big of a spotlight as you wanted?
Phil makes the "main" stories the last ones, so the Thai story IS the main story. The easy, short minute stories first, followed by advertisement, and then followed by the heavy stuff.
Well you're just smart if you're playing both sides of the hate-marathon that is recent politics. Why relegate yourself to just the money from only one side of the extreme when you can double dip?
Why bother being correct? When you can pander? Walmart APPROVES anything they sell. I'm in manufacturing, they are massively invasive to businesses they include. If they ASKED, any manufacturer wouldn't do it.
It's also hilarious to think Trump supporters would boycott walmart when red states are the most reliant on welfare. I doubt they'd find any other store that isn't owned by walmart with such incredibly low prices. I'm all for taking down mega corporations, but when your responsible for their success it's kind of strange.
Alan Gonzalez it’s like boycot me, but where else you gonna go? I own your economic demographic. When you make only so much, you don’t have options in a capitalistic society.
6:30 Exactly! I think the incentives to be stupid far outweigh the incentives to be better or be mature and that is why we are seeing a lot of people, in some cases very smart people, act stupid or really evil just for those incentives
yeah... just look at all the things Trump did that simply made him more popular... If you can become president of the USA with that attitude why would anyone do differently...
Forget overselling the venue. Of those 5,200 tickets, around 96% were sold as "VIP" tickets, purporting to entitle the purchaser to preferential treatment like line skipping and other benefits as compared to the regular free tickets, which despite being referenced heavily in marketing essentially didn't exist. They deliberately misled people to induce them to buy the premium tickets. That is fraud.
I don't understand how you can say that "I don't think Shane intended for that narrative to take off" in regards to the "dumb girl who trusted the shady guy" thing. It's the only consistent narrative that is presented throughout all three videos in the series. That was the entire point that Shane's series was made to present. I don't know why people give Shane such a pass on his edit and the point of the videos... "THE TRUTH ABOUT TANACON" *As told in its entirety by two people who are dishonestly pointing the finger at each other*
And they need to get sued, you cannot just give tana a pass because she is a "dumb girl who trusted the shady guy" she is an adult, and if she didnt intend for this to happen that still doesnt matter, she should still get sued along with that michael guy because they committed fraud. Whether she is dumb or smart it doesnt matter, fraud is fraud in the eyes of the law.
Shane is his friend and just wanted to put all guilt and responsibilities on that Michael Guy!! Tana is the mastermind and only person who had to proof she was better than VidCon. She is an idiot and her fans are morons for complaining but come next year they will still buy tickets or merchandise to see Tana.
Both Tana and Michael are guilty. For the record I'm not a Tana fan. The problem is Tana isn't an event manager, she's a "creator." The blame will ultimately lay on Michael since he is the one who captained the ship....even if Tana was a navigator some times, Michael was the pilot and should have seen where this path was taking him. He does events, that's his thing. Tana does stupid shit, that's her thing. She cries and apologizes, her fans forgive her. But good times is a business trying to sell a service, will customers consider him now after this mess? Time will tell.
That Thai story made me cry. Its reassuring to see that human lives matter so much again. All those volunteers willing to put their lives at risk around the world to help find and save the kids. And also the fact that they are actually safe and not dead is just a miracle. Thank you for covering this story.
I work for Walmart, specifically (and happily) the Online Pickup, and I appreciate Philip clarifying this situation. I've had to answer so many questions about this at work this week....... Not many people take the time to learn the backstory. :(
Glad to hear about the tornado deaths down to a zero. I live in Joplin and when that stuff had hit our town back in 2011, we were devastated. Now that people have a better warning system, we can keep more people safe.
Here's the question that I have. I didn't do any research, but they said that tickets were sold through Veep. Good Times dude said that Veep is withholding the money made. In the Shane Dawson video he said that in the contract, Good Times is responsible for repaying ticket refunds, not Veep, so Michael has to personally repay those tickets because he is basically Good Times. No one is really mentioning the $300k that Veep is withholding. Why are they withholding it? What will happen with it? Who does this go to? is Veep keeping this money? if so, that's the real scam right there. Feels like $300k is a large number to just overlook or for it just to be omitted from any of the stories.
yeah I thought I was the only one concerned about that. How could a ticket venue company make contracts that say "we get to keep the money and you have to pay refunds differently?" That's a sketchy business right there.
Darren D. MacDonald: They make those requirements within the contracts as a financial security so that the ticket seller won't lose money if the convention organisers bail or fail on the event. Events usually have a budget, then the organizer sign contracts and agree to financial payments or lump sum payment to cover those costs. The ticket sellers aren't responsible for the refunds and they get to keep the money. It is a business and they are under no obligation to refund. It was pretty dumb for Michael to sign all of those contracts in haste. (Contracts with the Mariott, the gift bag vendors, etc. He is financially and legally responsible for all of the money.. He signed the contracts on behalf of the GoodTimes brand. If he files for bankruptcy on behalf of his company all of those refunds won't happen. I'd be surprised (given the info we have on how they run the business) if Tana even signed a contract with GoodTimes. Tana has publicly stated in video that she will personally take care of the people that were scammed. I doubt that will happen.
Veep had Michael sign a contract in case anything went wrong that they could hold the money. They probably did this so that they wouldn’t have to refund any money and so they wouldn’t lose anything. It was truly michaels fault for ignoring this huge risk and signing over the money.
It just boils down to two incompetent kids, whose incompetence caused thousands of people to suffer. Phil is right that the most important thing here is accountability
The only real issue I have with how you covered the TanaCon situation is that you haven't drawn attention to how Tana is a pathological liar, and I think iDubbbz did a great job of showing it in his video, which I'm almost positive you've seen since I think I remember you referring to the n-word situation at some point. It's kinda important to know that about her story-telling patterns when you report on her account of what happened.
You're almost positive he's seen an iDubbz video about Tana because he mentioned him before when he was in the news over a scandal.....lmao the mental gymnastics
Zekholgai Thank you! And it's completely pathological lying because typically they aren't even always aware they are lying, hence why she makes ten claims at a time, can't back anything up, and then resorts to that fake crying display when questioned. And then the amount of times she had a sook over the fact Michael 'lied and lied and lied' to her, and yet she said about 5 times in the 3rd part that she didn't know the hotel could only hold 1000 people, and she didn't want her fans to be stuck outside waiting - and yet there's the footage of her laughing and gloating about how she wants to 'oppress' them outside. I also love that her fans buy that shit, and think she actually cares AT ALL. They hear her say 'I love you guys' and they cheer, but ignore she only seemed to 'pretend' care about the sunburns, not their lost money and wasted time as well.
I was crying by the end of this. This is why I love watching you, Phil, you bring real news that actually matters to people. You are amazing at what you do. I hope to keep watching you 25 years from now!!
Anti-Union practices, its stranglehold on distributors and other retailers, the increasing automation of jobs are just a few of the reasons often cited. I don't care enough to boycott, but those are some of 'em.
10 days in total darkness trapped in a cave... That must have been insane. They could come out with serious mental issues. That would have been terrifying
nTV no those people kind of deserved what the got because when you follow someone dumb person who is very good at monetizing something .i sometimes don't understand why these American teenagers are highly attracted to these so called "influencers".people like logan paul, tana are just making a lot of money of these following without providing any value .
kirti rajput no they don’t. When you enter a contract in good faith that contact is still binding, even if you’re stupid for doing so. Being stupid isn’t against the law, not delivering on what you sell, is. Moral judgement and legal judgement shouldn’t be jumbled up like that.
kirti rajput I agree anyone who is a fan of Tana has some issue somewhere lol... but at the same time when you pay for something you deserve to get what you paid for regardless. They need to go through with the lawsuit.
as far as i know tana was not involved in any legal contracts and really was more good times client than anything. the owner of goodtimes is the only person who can be sued and ven then if he declares bankruptcy that lawsuit is nothing more than a waste of time and money. fact is veep has all the ticket money and no on will be getting a refund. lawsuits wont change a thing.
amazing work Phil i live in Thailand ( i'm from reading in England ) and the boys stuck in the cave has been all over the news hear and some expats that do cave rescue in there own countries have also helped and its been so good that they have been found and not getting supplies i think its amazing you have covered this story keep up the good work love your show :)
Let me know what stories I might have missed down in the comments below and I'll check them out for tomorrow! Be sure to tune in.
You missed the only news that matters today England won on penalties !!!!
Thanks for the news as always, Phil!
The ticket company (Veeps) holding the money from Tanacon only makes a 5% commission. Who the hell has the other $305K?
Cleveland terror plot
Philip DeFranco please stop reporting on the Tana story. It's getting old w repeating the same dialog every day
That Thailand story was amazing! I love the way the British guy responded "How many of you are there?" - "13." - "Brilliant!"
That so was thrilling!
Indeed
Nofxthepirate +
Yea.. the Tanacon thing, selling 5x as many tickets as the venue holds. That should be illegal.
Just like airlines selling more tickets than the plane can seat. Highly unethical and everyone hates it.
Quentin Watt Tutorials PREACH
Quentin Watt Tutorials it really should
that would be the best answer to these kinds of shitty situations... hmmm wonder why it isn't? perhaps cause our whole government is run by businesses/greedy immoral people who do shitty stuff like that or something...?
Please keep us updated on the cave story.
I second this

The best news is the one of the 13 missing boys. Incredible. Really hope they all make it out safely.
I agree in a world were bad news is all we see its nice to see some good news
RasenRendan X nah the best news is no one died in a tornado! (Jk im amazed at all the work people have done and its a miracle that their alive)
jack VanDePutte honestly that is just as amazing as well. Very happy to hear that to no lie
i cant imagine for 10 days trapped in a dark cave with no food or clean water, how many hours is that minutes seconds just waiting, waiting for what rescue that might not even come or death. i can't fathom the mental strength to stay sane, it could break an adult but children HOW, i assume the 25 year old young man had a lot of responsibility in keeping the kids calm HOW DID THEY DO IT. BTW what did they do for bathroom, sometimes what humans are capable of under extreme pressure is extra ordinary. You can't survive for this long only to die later, I am sure they will find a way GOOD LUCK BOYS.
Anu the 25 year is amazing imo and so are the young kids. Guy is my age too so that's pretty kool. Adult doing adult things.
as a diver i can say that if the divers who have actually traversed the cave say that they should wait, then they should wait. if they said that they could get the kids out, then they should get the kids out. the boots on the ground always have more information about the specifics than any of the higher ups.
If they can get them food, clothing and stuff to make them comfortable, they should definitely wait it out.
Yes! Better to be safe than to end up rushing things and end up getting someone killed.
I thought the flood waters were predicted to rise soon though, so they NEED to get the boys out soon.
Can't they just have a rope going from the cave to outside, Stick on some diving gear and have them go through it when they're well rested and fed?
ex Lightning In theory yes...
Amen!
If shane is smart and concerned about his credibility he should stop associating with tana
Yea , I cried when I heard the boys were safe. Just because of the way he told the story
starring Mark Wahlberg of course
This is huge news over here in thailand. So happy its getting international coverage and people from other countries came to help.
Saif Uddin LOL...if he can do an English accent he can be one of the divers that found them I guess ha ha!
I feel like Shane is babying/defending her too much. She just has to own up and accept that they all effed up, ya know?
Brittany and Michael Vlogs Shane just wanted to share the truth, it's not his job to help some rich public figure feel crappy. Especially if it's his friend. Honestly people should just stop following her, she doesn't deserve it
Thought ya'll wanted equality? You see a buck but collapse when you get burned like a witch. Sounds...uhh... oh wait, cherry picking. That's it!
Yea I thought it was a bit biased really. He made a good documentary series on it and he’ll be someone who profits pretty good out of the event but it would have been better if it were done by someone on neutral ground so to speak.
+Ya Dig?
Uhm, can you try stating that again more literally rather than metaphorically? I do not understand what you are trying to convey.
Internet Historian did vids on Dash and Rainfurrest, I'm excited to see if he'll do a vid on TanaCon.
Oh, also- JumP iN tHe PIt
No ballpit? Monsters!
It's not a con with out a ballpit.
how dumb are you? How could they put AC outside wtf
Even it were, someone would have pissed in that ball pit.
it's awesome to see so many countries rally together to save these 13 people, I just wish our nations leaders cooperated on all matters this enthusiastically
a Nurchin I know! I am just so happy this kids are okay! I can't even imagine what they have gone through
I dont understand why they are being so weak. Just throw masks and air tanks on these kids, and drag their asses out. Com'on now.
Chris Bogausch ... you cant simply drag someone through rushing water in no visibility with rocky sharp and dangerous terrain
they had no food for 10 days...try not eating that long and learn to dive for your first time in a cave
I think she needs to stop pointing the finger and she needs take full responsibility and apologize to her fans.
i agree 100%
Agreed!!! Tell it sishta!!!
It is not about fucking a situation up. Fraud is a crime. What they did was criminal. They should both be in jail.
+Bee P
Thank you for writing your comment, I can't fucking believe this I have no idea how to- dammit. This is the most wretchedly heartbreaking news I've seen in a while. I'm sorry and I just cannot rationalize the fear and pain they must've been... are still going through. I hope that water clears out much, much faster than expected.
I hope you're safe and that you sleep well tonight.
So he got them into that mess... but also kept them alive, so... that balances out I guess? I think I'd still be pissed at him if I were a parent lol.
That coach is a true hero
TheMistyBlueLounge I mean, he's responsible for them, so keeping them alive is his priority.
I can not BELIEVE they found those boys ALIVE! I feel like I’m so conditioned to expect tragedy. So surprisingly shocked at this amazing news
I was so worried, then there's the clip of 13 boys alive and relatively ok.
Exactly! I agree with everything you said.
well said, both of them deserve what's comming...
Kaalyn - OPG this is the best explanation/comment I've read concerning this issue. Tana makes her money by selling bullshit stories that may have a tiny bit of truth to it, but not much. Obviously, she is going to do the same thing with this whole debacle.
Shane Dawson should see this comment, it explains perfectly how both sides were to blame
Who cares 👌
She isn't...
Happy to see some good news with the kids in Thailand
Finally some good news
The things I've picked up from TanaCon (and yes, I've watched all of Shane's videos, so I'm getting more than just Phil's take on things.)
1. Tana was being spiteful trying to hold her con at the same time as VidCon, and wanted to spite them so badly, she didn't care how irrational it was to try to throw a convention in such a short amount of time. Had she waited until even next year, and still held it the same time as VidCon, it probably would have succeeded.
2. Tana was being lazy/naive/stupid handing the reins over to a young kid while she went on vacation and partied rather than working on the con
Greed and hubris led to the failure of the convention.
agreed.
1050 capacity means even 1000 tickets would be packed and crowded for ticket buyers. Its ridiculous and pisses me off everytime I hear about it. Tana and Michael are both in the wrong. #TanaConned #idiots
They aren't just both wrong. They are both criminals.
As someone who is familiar with diving, caving, and cave diving I can say that it is in no way safe for the children to go through that water. The seals going through that water is extremely dangerous already. I wouldn't feel comfortable having the navy seals go through that because of how dangerous it is.
thankx for your expertise. I found it amazing that they found the children alive. I hope they all get out safely. what a story!
Thailand kids stuck inside the cave story is scary and incredible at the same time. Hoping for safe evacuation with no or minimum fuss.
krishna kishor bhat Same. I wish I could be there to help
I’m not a big fan of Wal-Mart but the ppl getting mad at them for selling those anti-Trump shirts are the same ppl who get mad at Rotten Tomatoes when a movie gets a bad score.
Troy McClure are you stupid? Did you not watch the video?
Troy McClure Lol they have partisan shirts for both sides at Walmart. They didn’t have impeach Obama shirts because the pressure for that cause was not nearly as strong as an impeach trump one is today. It’s classic capitalism and supply and demand. Please educate yourself
Troy McClure they sold anti Obama shirts as well dude.
Clearly you didn't watch the video. The shirts were made, sold & shipped by a 3rd party. They are just listed on their website. They are not sold IN Walmart, they are sold on the website. Logic, there is none.
Troy McClure they didn’t have impeach Obama products but they sure as hell had anti Obama products
Shit that thailand thing hit me in a weird spot in my callused heart. I really hope they make it out just fine.
x9x9x9x9x9 Me too. :/
It honestly sounds like a movie plot! Hope they get out :/
The worst part is they were down there in the pitch black darkness for 10 days beforehand. I'm pretty sure at that point they had all came to the conclusion they were gonna die down there.
I really want to hear their side of the story. If one of them writes a book I will happily read it. Whats insane to think is the adventure still isn't over for them. But I can't imagine coming to the conclusion of "oh hey im going to die here."
me too. i found myself nearly in tears. its a miracle they survived
God, that cave story was incredible. I was waiting for Phil to explain how they found the 13 people's corpses.
Same.
It's a miracle that all 13 of them are alive and relatively well. I was expecting at least some of them to have died after ten days of being trapped down there. Here's hoping that they all will be able to go safely back to their families.
I literally got chills when they said thanks you.
Ladondorf How did they get good water to drink?
I was waiting for the "it was all for nothing tho!! They weren't even there" kinda shit
wah wahaha bazinag Same that how it felt the story was going to end.
Tana fake crying did not work with me.
KC DoodleArt right? I just rolled my eyes
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought it looked fake.
KC DoodleArt I was cringing every time. Had to turn away from my screen for a bit too. Urgh.
KC DoodleArt ikr I cudnt finish either...
Lol she made a video of her crying?! Typical
That last story got me scared, happy, and scared again. I hope for a happy ending, poor kids stuck there for 10 days, it must be hell.
I applause everyone who worked to find those 13 boys awesome job😄
This story made me choke up a bit. these people are real heroes!
They could go in with a rebreather.
That Thailand story is pretty cool to see so many people come together for a rescue, and to see that everybody is alive
I’m so annoyed at how Tana, yet again, is seemingly getting off easy. Tana knew the capacity, said she wanted people waiting and yet when shit hit the fan blames everyone else and claims she didn’t know...🙄
Exactly! She probably knew this was gonna end in flames, but she would profit off of it. Like she is now.
Yup, Lindsay Lohan wannabe
Thank you for covering the cave story. First I’d heard of it. Amazing that they are ok thus far.
Hank Hill they’re not mutually exclusive...
Same
Brooke R except not all of them are. Most have already moved on to their regular thing.
Foxy brown because he's still hoping he can get out of that friend zone she has him in lol
Brooke R Oh haha fair enough. I had no idea
Same. But although he didnt grill her..he also didnt make her out to be a good guy or edit her bullshit lies out.
Holy shit, they found the 13 alive! That's pretty amazing.
I hope I never hear the words TanaCon ever again after today
Grant - Saturn me too! Even Pewdiepie has covered it too much
I'm going to come back here and reply to this comment with "TanaCon" every day forever just so you go crazy. teehee.
I’d expect it to die down for a few weeks or months, but expect it to come back when a class action lawsuit comes against it.
bethyngalw 😂😂😂
I actually want to hear about it again but about Tana and Michael getting sued for the bullshit the BOTH of them played a part in pulling.
Glad someone was honest about tana! Shane was biased.
notes and things agreed. I would have loved to see those interviews done with Phil or another neutral TH-camr
ManlyWonderland Yet in a documentary that he promotes as "finding out the truth about Tanacon", one shouldn't be biased. Because ya know.. Favoring somebody will not help you at revealing the truth
Biased? It didn’t seem that way to me at all. Can you explain? Yeah
It's actually fantastic they found those kids. I can't imagine what they're going through right now. Thanks Phil!
That search and rescue job sounds terrifying. Im a diver and i would be so terrified in that senario. Fair play to all involved
ImScottJones I’m sure all the divers involved we’re terrified but when it comes to innocent lives, especially those of children, you gotta do all that you can. I give my to all divers, especially the ones that were involved in the rescue.
I am an American living in Thailand and this is a incredible story. I am so happy they were all found alive.
The whole TanaCon shit is basically two kids were in over their heads and were winging it the entire time.
CoolMoon So basically my group project from 1st semester
We can assume your project didn't end as bad as this....right?
CoolMoon kids????? ¿¿

I started crying as soon as you said they found those kids. I didn't know how much I needed a but of good news.
"12 boys and their soccer coach go into a cave" sounds like the setup to an unpredictable joke
or the beginning to a horrible "to catch a predator" episode...
Sounds like the beginning of a B-rated horror movie.
Midget Penguin Or the beginning of a search and rescue story
it is the beginning to a search and rescue story XD
Lol I was thinking the punchline ends with Chris Hansen.
I started boycotting Walmart when I found out they don’t actually sell walls...
Josh Mendoza. 😂😂😂😂 I just needed a wall and they had them just said, " they couldnt sell them since they're " in use" . "
If they sold walls and didn't hold them up properly, it wouldn't be a Safeway to shop.
ba dum tiss
Josh Mendoza you sir, have made my day.
LOL
I was so afraid that the Thai rescue was going to turn out bad or be some kind of prank but I nearly started crying with the footage of the British diving finding the 13 people. So glad they are okay and I hope they take their time getting them out 10 day is a long time to be without food and water
Wow...I...I can't even imagine being in that sort of situation. Even the sheer concept of diving under a cave system with 0 visibility. Then the fact that there are 13 children all stuck in a single room. Maybe for 4 months. I hope they get out alright.
I have experience as both a spelunker and a certified rescue diver. This is incredible event. Pray for the best.
The media should be the ones thrown in the cave
How did the kids survive without food for ten days?! My heart breaks for them all love I am happy they were found! ♥️
You can live without food for pretty long. Especially when all you do is sitting in a cave. And they probally had snacks with them. Considering the cave was filled with rainwater they had a pretty safe source of water which is most important to survival.
There were 14 kids originally XD
a2pabmb2 Too soon man, too soon 😂
eight weeks is the standard with water of course (which they have plenty of)
I'm from Thailand. Some news said the coach used to be monk for 8 years. So he knows how to meditate very well and he taught them. (meditate made you less moving and breath slower, save a lot of energy.)
Also before they get in the cave , they bring some food and snacks with them so they can stay a little longer.
Hoping the girl who got trampled can sue.
The whole TanaCon situation is ripe for a class action lawsuit.
Honestly, I'd be stoked to see that happen, especially now that we know, with proof, that safety and well-being of them was never REALLY a priority. At all.
I’m waiting for that Tana story time... I’m sure lawyers are getting names every day
pajamagirl123 Not only civil, but there could be charges if the DA feels that their choice to sell 4and1/2 times more tickets than the venue could hold was intentionally creating a situation where they were going to try to not follow the fire marshals safety requirements for the venue, and also create a crowd of over 4,000 people that had nowhere safe to go.
International involvement in the missing Thai boys case really warms my fucking heart.
I was honestly expecting the worse possible outcome for that cave rescue. For once, I'm glad I'm wrong.
James Charles did tweet a lot While Shane was with him, so they ALL KNEW that it was disorganised and all over the place....Will Tana change? probably not, will Michael learn?... maybe. Unfortunately, Tana's next video will be her going back to her usual crazy stories...
i wish james was in the video. i don’t like him but he was the only one putting his foot down and seeing through tana.
I’m soooo done with tana
I just skipped the story
Saaaaaaaaaay n-obody likes Tana!
that's the trend everyone is boycotting everything nowadays you're just fishing for likes because that's the trendy thing.
I'm soooo done with tornadoes
That cave story was a roller coaster ride. Glad those kids are safe.
I couldn't get through the last Tana video 🤦♀️ Thank god for the PDS short version.
esto pesto me neither I came here after 20 minutes into the video XD
Her loud fake sobbing was annoying and I couldn't be bothered so, same.
In my opinion both tana and the other dude did wrong but tana is more at fault she dropped a fuckton of work onto someone else when it has HER name on it and SHE decided to organize it and she acted like the person who doesn’t do work on a project and gave someone else most of the work to do when she should’ve been more hands on with HER event
esto pesto wasn't tana vacationing during this event?
James Watson she was vacationing right before not even preparing or anything
Why the hell did ANYONE want to see Tana Mongoose anyway!?..
Kieran everyone went for Shane tbh
they didnt, most people wanted to see shane.
Pretty sure a vet good amount of the people went for Shane
Kieran naw shane was the main attraction
Kieran For the same reason people are still subscribing to her and believing her bad acting/bullshit. They're dumb.
I agree with you 110% about Tana--no one is holding her accountable for her actions or *lack* of actions throughout this situation. I just feel so much for the people waiting it that crowd. They were miserable, burnt, and spent up to thousands of dollars to get...nothing. That sucks man.
How was the Thai story not the main story...Phil, no one wants to hear about Tana whatever
Pinnacle Of Man TM probably because it had something positive in it, because the Tana thing was just uncomfortable and bleh. Save the good stuff for last.
that's phils routine
So? He still covered it well. People get upset when he doesn't talk about certain events all the time and now you're upset that it didn't get as big of a spotlight as you wanted?
It's interesting because it's also TH-cam focused.
Abbreviated Reviews it's good business
That's why I don't give a crap what businesses sell, as long they sell what I want.
If you can become president of the USA with that attitude why would anyone do differently...
exactly, bad publicity is still publicity
Forget overselling the venue. Of those 5,200 tickets, around 96% were sold as "VIP" tickets, purporting to entitle the purchaser to preferential treatment like line skipping and other benefits as compared to the regular free tickets, which despite being referenced heavily in marketing essentially didn't exist. They deliberately misled people to induce them to buy the premium tickets. That is fraud.
The last story is crazy, I'm really happy everyone is alive and I'm praying that they make it out alive as well💗💗
I don't understand how you can say that "I don't think Shane intended for that narrative to take off" in regards to the "dumb girl who trusted the shady guy" thing.
Darren D. MacDonald i commented the same thing in the video...why would a ticket company hold all ticket money??isn't that to budget the event?
yeah I thought I was the only one concerned about that. How could a ticket venue company make contracts that say "we get to keep the money and you have to pay refunds differently?" That's a sketchy business right there.
My guess is that they already gave Good Times the ticket money.
Zekholgai 👌
Respect to those divers and Volunteers
I’m just waiting for Tana’s next story time “idubbbz sabotaged tanacon! *no clickbait*”
*cops called*
(Gone Wrong) In the hood
I was crying by the end of this. This is why I love watching you, Phil, you bring real news that actually matters to people. You are amazing at what you do. I hope to keep watching you 25 years from now!!
I can think of 100s of other reasons to boycott walmart. At least hundreds.
ihateintros can you name a few? I’m curious now
ihateintros let's hear some
really? is walmart that bad? Are there legitimate reasons to boycott walmart?
Anti-Union practices, its stranglehold on distributors and other retailers, the increasing automation of jobs are just a few of the reasons often cited. I don't care enough to boycott, but those are some of 'em.
Suuuuuure jan
10 days in total darkness trapped in a cave... That must have been insane. They could come out with serious mental issues. That would have been terrifying
People who bought tickets should do a class action lawsuit against Tana and Good Times
nTV no those people kind of deserved what the got because when you follow someone dumb person who is very good at monetizing something .i sometimes don't understand why these American teenagers are highly attracted to these so called "influencers".people like logan paul, tana are just making a lot of money of these following without providing any value .
kirti rajput no they don’t.
They need to go through with the lawsuit.
as far as i know tana was not involved in any legal contracts and really was more good times client than anything. the owner of goodtimes is the only person who can be sued and ven then if he declares bankruptcy that lawsuit is nothing more than a waste of time and money. fact is veep has all the ticket money and no on will be getting a refund. lawsuits wont change a thing.
kirby 5329 what if it ends up being true that veep is owned by Michael or his family?
amazing work Phil i live in Thailand ( i'm from reading in England ) and the boys stuck in the cave has been all over the news hear and some expats that do cave rescue in there own countries have also helped and its been so good that they have been found and not getting supplies i think its amazing you have covered this story keep up the good work love your show :)
