This wasn’t a Queen concert. This video is Queen’s performance at the Live Aid music benefit concert to raise money to fight a famine in Africa at the time, and this benefit made history in and of itself. The Live Aid producers determined the length of each performance; I think every act was limited to 20 minutes on stage. They literally killed the mics when your time was up. As for Queen’s performance-there are videos which carefully explain why this (abbreviated) Queen concert may be the best live band performance ever, and I recommend that you check them out. All in all, Queen was simply super smart and strategic about this concert, and their not-so-secret weapon, Freddie Mercury, really brought it that day, as he had so many times before. Importantly, it’s a myth that Queen was out of practice or hiatus or they were just getting back together from splitting up (myths promoted by the movie Bohemian Rhapsody and people on TH-cam who, I guess, watched that movie but haven’t fact-checked it). Rather it was an amazing performance because of Queen’s abilities. Why? They were accustomed to large stadium venues, while many other acts were not. Plus they had rehearsed their shortened 20 minutes set over and over so that they had it perfectly timed, right down to the minute. Also, the members of Queen were very good at reading each other and taking cues from one another so what could have been ‘hiccups’ or problems in the performance were all handled seamlessly. Instead of using the free spot to promote their newest songs, like many other acts did, except for one song, Queen chose songs which were big older hits that everyone knew, including a couple of songs which were their biggest hits in the US, the other physical venue of Live Aid (Philadelphia.) Also, they purposely picked a time slot that would get them the widest viewing audience across the world and the most receptive audience in Wembley. But the most important thing that Queen did to make this one of the most incredible live performances was to manage to find someone, right from their beginnings as a band, someone with the charisma and musical ability that Freddie Mercury had. No one at Live Aid or elsewhere could make an audience as happy and as involved as Freddie Mercury. Even when Freddie was not feeling 100%, as he was at this concert due to throat complications, Freddie was (and still is) the best front man, ever. That music festival, Live Aid, was long and went on for hours and hours, and it was very easy to say that Freddie Mercury was the highlight and he fed energy to everyone there as well as to everyone who watched it on TV (which I know from experience cuz I watched the whole thing on TV.) It is a wonderfully tight, engaging, live performance for Queen. I, personally, could never watch it too many times. Thanks for doing this reaction and congratulations on 1000 subs!!!
Ty so much for sharing all this amazing information, is just make the content we watched more unique, what a big 20 min of performance, and for a good purpose! We like that he even sneaks these line in between: Freddie: This next song is only dedicated to beautiful people here tonight. It means all of you. Thank you for coming along and making this a great occasion. Even compliment the crowd! GREAT
Freddie has a very powerful live voice with a gravel sound. This performance was among 60 total bands that day. It was for the famine in Ethiopia. Each group had 20 minutes only. Queen blew everyone else out of the water. It’s still ranked as the best live performance in history. The bands were in London and Philadelphia PA in USA. It was viewed by 1.6 BILLION people. There were 72,000 people in Wembley and 90,000 in USA. Queen was continually voted the best live band. Not too many bands sound that great live. Freddie’s voice is just unmatched. Back then you had to be true musicians. There wasn’t any auto tune or computer tricks. It was pure talent. Freddie started doing to interaction with the audience because he wanted them to feel a part of the show. They were the first group who wanted to included their fans in the show.
Yes it was a concert to raise money for Africa, lots of bands played each having 20mins, Freddie did really well considering His doctor advised Him not to do it.
LIVE-AID was a worldwide phenomenon. lasting 3 days. dozens of superstars performing around the world. queen had 20 minutes. there are supposed to be 90.000 people at the stadium that day (actually it holds 72000), AND there where 1.5 billion (BILLION, not million) live viewers around the world watching. broadcasting to the whole world at that magnitude was new.
That was incredible. Truly a perfect reaction that brightened my day. Thank you for your reaction to this performance. I really appreciated that you stopped and talked about the different parts and picked up little things. It made this video a really great special. 🎉 And again, congratulations to 1,000 subscribers. More than deserved. 🥳😊
Freddie Mercury and Brian May came back on stage at the end of the concert to perform a final song--Is This The World We Created written for The Works album but so perfect for this charity performance so please check that one out as well.
Freddie's performance is even more amazing when you realize he had laryngitis the week before. His doctor recommended that he cancel his appearance and rest his voice, but he was having none of that and went on to make rock history. There were dozens of performers there for Live Aid, so to make things fair each act had 20 minutes to perform. If they went over their time limit, the electricity would be turned off. Queen was the only group prepared enough from having practiced and chose to use their established hit songs rather than introduce new ones like so many others did. Queen performing was a very pleasant surprise for the audience. They didn't sign on to appear until after all of the advertisements for Live Aid had been distributed to the media, so no one in the audience knew they would be there until they were announced just before they came out on stage. Full concert is a poor way of describing it, what they were trying to say was it was the complete Queen set, there were dozens of other performers on stage that day.
Congratulations on 1k subs! Loved the Live Aid reaction! This event was huge. It was billed as a "global jukebox". They had the Wembley and J.F. K. venues but also "on the same day, concerts inspired by the initiative were held in other countries, such as the Soviet Union, Canada, Japan, Yugoslavia, Austria, Australia and West Germany. It was one of the largest satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time; an estimated audience of 1.9 billion, in 150 nations, watched the live broadcast, nearly 40 percent of the world population." (Wikipedia) I watched it on tv at home in the U.S. This was quite a feat that Bob Geldof and Midge Ure pulled off, extremely technical and complex. Geldof went to each of the bands and lied, saying that other top bands had already agreed to do it (they had not agreed yet) then went to the other top bands and told them the same thing. That's how he got everyone to agree to perform. He lied to all of them! Queen was not in the original lineup when the tickets were sold so the people that bought the tickets not "Queen fans" per se. It was only later that Queen agreed to perform. Most of the world's top pop/rock artists performed that day either in the U.K. or in the U.S. Queen took the "global jukebox" theme to heart and played hit after hit without stopping except for Freddie to take a sip of water and to pick up the guitar. Unlike most of the bands who did not rehearse their set, Queen rehearsed their set and timed it perfectly. They rehearsed with clocks in front of them so they could get a feel of the timing of the stoplights at the front of the stage. The bands had been warned the power would go off if they went over their time. I often wonder how real that threat was. I can't imagine being the one to have to turn off the electricity for Queen's performance that day had they gone over but that was the supposed threat they were dealing with. I'm glad you guys enjoyed the video. I think you do lose a great deal of the momentum and the greatness of the performance when you pause this particular performance but I understand why you feel you need to do it and don't blame you at all. One of the things that is so mind blowing is the pace of this performance and the crowd engagement. Freddie never stops. When you watch it in real time, you get exhausted just watching Freddie. Even during guitar solos, you can see Freddie going to both sides of the stage and encouraging everyone to stand and clap. His stamina was amazing. He holds out the notes and puts in lots of extra bits of vocals on the upbeat and carries it into the downbeat even at the end when you would think he'd be gasping for air. The whole band was brilliant and the crowd was 100% engaged. Perhaps you can watch it again some other time just for your own enjoyment without reacting to get a feel of what it was like without pause in real time. Freddie said in an interview that his throat hurt so bad that day that he said singing was like "gargling with glass." Truly amazing he was able to sing so well through the pain. Thanks for the reaction and congrats again!
TY So much for 1.000 subs! Like i mention we NEVER did share this channel on any platform at all, so reaching 1.000 subs for just sharing reaction videoes is a huge milestone for us, and beside that GREAT support all around from u nice people! We hope that we can learn more about music in future together, ty so much again - Celika and Caspar. Also if u want to support us, we have a Patreon with some benefits: www.patreon.com/CelcaReact
I just found your channel and subscribed a few days ago. I don't mind pausing at all when you both have something to say. This is after all a reaction channel
@@marciebulsaraorcutt that comment means a lot to us, actually also what we pointed out so many times, we even not fake the thumbnails, is from the actually video we recorded, and we also say if we not like it, but not the case with no Queen song yet :D ty for all your amazing support and info! You're for sure a real Queen fan!
@@theresarandall7448 ty for that comment! Ya we feel the same, not everyone want a pause happen all the time, but we also want to stop and share opinions instead of just watch :) ty
GOOD on Celika, for pointing out that Brian changed guitars during "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"! (I was WAITING for Caspar to mention it.) Brian played THREE guitars in that song: the acoustic; then a "chocolate twin" to Freddie's vanilla Stratocaster; then finally back to his Red Special. GUYS, Not only did this MAKE MY DAY... Your reaction today, MADE MY WEEK.🤩 If you ever decide you want to know more background about this Live Aid set: There is an interesting/funny interview with the band, done just prior to the performance. There is also footage of Queen rehearsing for the set. (One of the reasons why Queen did so much better than the other acts: They were the only band who "took it seriously" and PRACTICED. They had Freddie's assistant Peter Freestone buy some large clocks/place them in the rehearsal space where they could watch their timing, and they rehearsed every day for a week. The other reason - according to Brian May & Roger Taylor - was that they "had an advantage" in having experience playing to HUGE stadium-sized audiences, which they had already been doing in places like South America, and the fact that Freddie was able to "connect" with every person in a huge audience.) AND FYI, GUYS... THERE IS ALSO A QUEEN LIVE AID ENCORE! Freddie & Brian had been asked to perform an acoustic song: "IS THIS THE WORLD WE CREATED?" as part of Live Aid's evening closing numbers, a few hours later. The video is available on the OFFICIAL LIVE AID CHANNEL. BTW... Little-known FACTS: Brian May said that when Freddie broke into those "AY-OHs" with the audience right after "Radio GaGa".... The rest of the band DID NOT KNOW FRED WAS GOING TO DO THAT.🤯 So... when we see Brian standing at the back of the stage with his back to the audience and Fred does that first "AY OH!"... Brian was actually thinking: "OH, so we're doing THAT now, are we ?!?!?" 😂 (Brian's exact words from an interview.) ...Freddie said that - when he got done with this set - his throat felt like he'd "been gargling with shards of glass" (his exact words)... because of the throat infection. ...Freddie's common-law husband, Jim Hutton, had NEVER seen Freddie or Queen perform! So, Freddie invited Jim to come watch them at Live Aid... But, ALL Freddie told Jim was that they were going to perform at a charity event... THAT'S IT! Jim said (in a book he wrote, "Mercury and Me") that he was "Gobsmacked!" and that he just "followed Freddie around like a puppy". (Probably because he was overwhelmed... When Jim & Fred first started dating a few months earlier, Jim had NEVER even heard of Freddie Mercury/didn't know he was famous.)😄 Silly Freddie!
I like that you said you "trust" Freddie/Queen to deliver a performance - when I watch them live, I can't help but feel as though I am rooting for him/them ("rooting" means you want him/them to do well). The more Queen songs you listen to, the respect & admiration climbs the scale. Such an array of talent on a wide spectrum of styles. Pure. Good joy!
Congrats!!! I’m excited to see this one from you guys. I think when people first hear Queen they realize they do know some of their music & recognize they’re a very good band. But there is something about their live performances that really draws you in. You can’t help but be captivated , and appreciate the talent/music even more.
So, a couple of things. Freddie had a sore throat and his doctor advised him not to sing. However, Freddie insisted that he perform since so many people bought tickets. Freddie bends over and shows his rear-end as a sign to the group’s previous manager who told him “ they would never make it big time.” It is “kiss my a___.” Queen, brought along their own “Sound technicians”. He had them take off the sound “limiters” for the speakers throughout Wembley Stadium.
I’m glad you finally came to watch this performance. Wonderful reaction. Never be sorry for pausing. You react how you want to. It’s your channel. And we enjoy it.
If you want to know how well rehearsed they were (including pauses and impromptu bits from Freddie) and what a great timekeeper Roger Taylor is when he's drumming, go back to Freddies last signal at the end of We are the Champions. The bands had 'traffic light' signals at the front of the stage. Just as Freddie signals the end of the song, the light goes to red to signal their time is up! Amazing!
Live aid was on all day with top acts who all had a 20 min slot. Queen killed it and were said to have given the best rock concert ever. It was also linked to a performance in America. It was watched by 1.4 billion as it was televised all over the world.
Glad that you found a video with the rest of We Are The Champions. I love watching and hearing the crowd show their love for Freddie and Queen. You still didn’t hear Freddie yell, “Good night. We love you!” though. Also, and it’s often in a separate video, later that evening, just Brian and Freddie do a song called ‘Is This The World We Created?’ The words of the song made people think that they had written it just for Live Aid, but it was actually released by Queen in 1984, the year before the Live Aid concert. But it’s definitely worth checking out that video. Brian is terrific on the guitar and Freddie’s performance is heartfelt and very touching.
Ahhhh . . .Someone else 'hurts' not hearing Freddie's 'we love you'. I'm reading comments as they talk about CLTCL so am now prepared to be heartfelt disappointed to know Freddie conveying the Bands gratitude is cut off....it's so much of Queen's fan appreciation.
Freddie was very sceptical about doing charity concerts, he had to KNOW that the intention is good and the purpose is real. In terms of Live Aid Bob Geldof and Harvey Goldsmith were the organizers of the event and they wanted to win the band over, so Bob Geldof called directly Freddie and said to him: "Fred, why wouldn't you do it? The entire stage was built for you practically. Darling, the world. He laughed and said, Oh, you have the point, Mr Geldof." Freddie was born to do spontaneous things, there weren't scripts to the live shows, he was doing what he actually felt he had to do. 👏👏👏Guys, congrats to the 1000 subscribers, you are great, never mind pausing and it was a brilliant idea to find the missing end of Champions, that proves again your enthusiasm. This is the shortest 20 minutest of the history. 🤣
Do you realize that Freddie was suffering from a throat infection during this performance and his doctor had actually told him not to perform? Also, I am glad that you notice that Brian played 3 different guitars during "Crazy Little Thing Called Love. He started with the acoustic guitar, then switched to the telecaster, and then finished with his "Red Special" BTW - Freddie wrote "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" while he was taking a bath in his Munich hotel while Queen was there recording an album.. The song came to him and he yelled for someone to bring him a guitar and then he wrote the song in less than 10 minutes. He then got dressed and called the rest of the band to meet him at the studio so they could record the song. John, Roger, and Mack (Reinhold Mack their engineer) met Freddie and they recorded the song before Brian even arrived. When Brian got there and heard it, he said that it sounded like rockabilly of the 50s and 60s and needed a telecaster sound like they used back then. He told Mack that it was lucky his Red Special guitar did a pretty good imitation of a telecaster. Mack replied, "Why don't you just use Roger's tele that's in the corner?" Brian did. Why was it only 20 minutes? Live Aid was a worldwide concert to raise money for the 2-year-old famine plaguing Ethiopia. It was held on July 13, 1985, using 2 main venues. The first was at Wembley Stadium outside of London (where the show started around 12:00 London time) and the second was at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia which started around 5 hours later. It was broadcast worldwide using 13 satellites (a new technology in 1985) to an audience of over 1.5 BILLION people. There were over 65 acts that performed like David Bowie, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Lead Zeppelin, Wham!, U2, Madonna, Phil Collins (who managed to play in both London and then hoped on Concorde to fly to the US to perform on the Philly stage for the crowds there too), Eric Clapton, Duran Duran, Mick Jagger, and Paul Simon. All acts were allocated only 20 minutes and they all had to perform on the generic stage setup using a generic sound and lighting system. It was basically universally agreed that Queen stole the show. There was one more song that was performed only by Brian and Freddie as part of the Live Aid finale at Wembley - "Is This The World That We Created" - th-cam.com/video/riwDo7_GxjM/w-d-xo.html. It sounds like it was written for this concert but it wasn't. It was already a part of Queen's concert rotation.
You're looking to the greatest concert in rock history I 'very seen this maybe 20 times and I can see it more and more it's outstanding all the band but you cannot take your eyes from freddie I'm so gelous of that crowd because such a performance will never ever take place on this planet his energy his connection with the crowd is our of this world ❤🧡💛👍
Live Aid was a multi-venue benefit concert held on Saturday 13 July 1985, as well as a music-based fundraising initiative. The original event was organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure to raise further funds for relief of the 1983-1985 famine in Ethiopia, a movement that started with the release of the successful charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?" in December 1984. Billed as the "global jukebox", Live Aid was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London, attended by about 72,000 people, and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, attended by 89,484 people.[1][2] wikipedia
Ok first, congratulation on 1k subs! Love you guys and your reactions! Love the honesty and purity in them! This one performance by Queen is widely considered not only the best rock performance of all time but also one the greatest performances of all time. Even the other performers that day told them they stole the show. A lot of the performers said they didn't want to go on after Queen because they were so good. So the difference I think was that most of the performers that day only sang two or three songs because of the twenty minute limit but Queen performed a mini concert and practiced it until they had it down to the minute. Bob Geldorf who was the man whose idea Live Aid was, said that Queen was the only band who got it, who understood what they had to do and used their time the best. Thanks again guys!
Queen was deemed the best perhaps because they planned, prepared and performed 20 minutes especially for the special purpose Live-Aid was held that July day in 1985. Songs they selected were carefully deemed appropriate for a world-wide audience. Plus each of the Queen boys held to their constant entertainment objective of knowing without a doubt all listening, looking, hearing and each of them could know "we love giving you music and a show that assures you are thrilled you came". Summarising, I believe deemed 'the best' was because they seriously rehearsed their set never discounting 'purpose', i.e., helping to reduce the number of those starving in Ethiopia..
On the yt channel Wings Of Pegasus a musician gives a technical breakdown on why this was such an iconic performance...a really fascinating video. Queen had everything so tight they literally had 10 seconds to spare of their allotted 20 minute time. No one came close to touching that performance❤️🎤🥁🔥👑🎸🎹
Congratulations on 1k subs. I noticed at the beginning of the video you were curious as to why the performance is so widely regarded as “the greatest live performance”. Besides the fact that the band did great, its perception has to do with Queen’s wavering popularity. They had just come out of a hiatus of sorts and apparently were unsure of their standing as a group. This video has a pretty good explanation as to the other factors that elevate the performance for many: th-cam.com/video/aaPfTjd6q10/w-d-xo.html
Great reaction to the best live performance of all time! Queen were always better live! Freddie liked to change his songs during live performances, as he said people can sit at home & listen to the studio version! Keep up the Queen reactions please, love from Australia 🇦🇺
Live Aid was a concert to raise money for the famine in Africa. There were two concerts happening simultaneously in London and the US and dozens of performers were invited to perform and each only had twenty minutes. It was telecast in over 200 countries. Freddie had a very bad throat infection during this concert and was advised not to perform but he and the band were committed to doing this.
As a side note, Phil Collins played at Wembley and then jumped on Concorde and did a second set in Philly. Must be the only person to play the same gig, the same day on different continents. Those were the days when artists knew how to sing, play and perform without racks of electronics to help them. Queen are the only band where each member has penned a UK number one single. Freddie was unique, without peer or equal. A clever songwriter, musician and a vocal range that would make most people weep. His stage presence was legendary and his connection with the audience unparalleled. We will never see his like ever again. The Show Must Go On 🖖
This was a general crowd. Not a Queen crowd. And, it shows how powerful Freddie Mercury is/was. Almost, superhuman. You can’t sing that good. He did. Wow! RIP - Freddie. Queen owned this massive concert world-wide.
Great reaction and congratulations on 1000 subs! Live Aid was 16 hours long and held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium UK and John F Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia USA. It was one of the largest television broadcasts of all time linked by satellite with an estimated audience 1.9 billion people in 150 countries watching at that time approximately 40 percent of the world's population. 16 hours long (I watched it all) and you two just watched the best 20 minutes! As mentioned in another comment there's an acoustic duet with Freddie and Brian from later that evening "Is this the world we created" the lyrics sound just as relevant today as they did in 1985. I so enjoy your reactions and look forward to many more ♥
Sorry to comment so much but they did do an encore that night called Is this the World We Created with beautiful lyrics by Freddie and music by Brian. Which really fit the occasion.
This is the best Live rock performance ever. Official. Freddie had a throat infection on this day and was advised not to sing. He did it anyway as the concert was to raise money for the starving in a famine in Africa.
No synthesizers. - or autotune - or clicks. Freddie is voted the best frontman in the world - ever - and Queen is recently voted the best band - - with The Beatles second. Brian and Roger still performs as Queen + Adam Lambert (frontman) who can control the crowd as well - but not as Freddie. They have three additional musicians - keyboards, bass and additional drums which allows Roger to sing - both Brian and Roger are very good singers and have made soloalbums as well as fronted their own bands. They still play sold out stadiums - This summer they toured UK and Europe. They are all multi instrumentalists - during lock down Roger made a soloalbum playing all the instruments himself -and singing of cause "Outsider". They sing all of them - but Johns microphone is not connected . The thing with the cameraman was that he was dancing with him so he went round full circle - so of cause he would have problems with the cables - he wasn't close to trip. There were two persons at the camera to take care of the cables. The band choreographs their moves. Brian plays 3 guitars , the acoustic, a Stratocaster and his "Red Special" - which he built with his father in his teens. John Deacon is called Queen's "secret weapon ". They could do everything - they have about 200 titles - - and they had different tastes. Remember they were together for 20 years - most bands break up - !
It was always hard to pin point why "Queen" as a band was so special compared to the other bands. I mean yes, they were high energy, they always gave 110% for the fans because they genuinely loved their fans, there was never any doubt there, I know that they would give the same performance for 50 fans that they would give to 50 thousand, they demanded perfection for us and would give us nothing less. You had four brilliant men on that stage not only musically but through other forms of education (I call them now the big bang theory as a band...lol) They each could have been a super star on their own, all equally talented and balanced each other out perfectly, you can go on with all the unique things about them that the other bands did not have. I mean when you watch them interact with one another on stage, you can tell all four members are in constant communication with one another without saying anything, just through their eyes and watching what each member is doing. But there was one more thing that a lot of people (including myself until it was pointed out to me) don't catch, and that's only because they are so wrapped up in the performance, which means this technique worked and it was a technique they used because THEY LOVED US. When you watch any band today they are pushing their performance OUT to the crowd, "whatch me watch me" but not Queen. Of course they wanted you to watch them, but they didn't "PUSH" the performance out as if they were the only ones around, instead, they "INVITED" the crowd to become part of the band during the concert, they were brought into the fold and were encouraged to join in with the band. SO when you said "They even captured the people behind them, the people that worked there and made them feel like they were there with Queen" You hit the nail on the head. THAT was one of the most unique things about them I believe, they "made you feel like you were with them the whole time"
Queen weren't together when they were asked to do this freddie was doing solo stuff, Bob Geldof told freddie your doing this & it got Queen back into the studio to give us the rest of their great music. Also Radio Ga Ga is were Lady Ga Ga got her name as she liked the song name. Martin from Wigan UK
This was a benefit concert for the Ethiopian Famine crisis in Africa. Broadcast on satellite with almost 2 billion viewers. Many artists performed including David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Madonna and many others. At Wembley, while one act was performing another was gettin setup on a revolving stage. Another concert was was going on in the US and alternated on a big screen. Each act had less than 20 minutes to perform. Queen chose to perform their greatest hits and they ended up stealing the show all over the world. To this date, this Queen performance is considered the greatest performance of all time. Freddie Mercury is the greatest showman of all time. Such a great choice guys and a great reaction.
2 B viewers wow, and Freddie took it so steady! :) for us it was also the best performance we ever seen, also like it was not just a song, but a whole show we love it!
@@CelcaReact Brian said that Freddie's white Fender Telecaster (he played for Crazy Little Thing) was stolen during one of their tours and must be now sitting in someone's private collection.
Congratulations on your 1K subscribers well deserved love your channel ❤ pause as much as you like it’s good to hear your comments ❤ would love you to react to The Story of Queen At Live Aid-Why was it so perfect hopefully it will go on your very extensive list keep up the good work ❤❤ you have to remember this wasn’t a Queen audience they weren’t announced as being on the list when all the tickets were sold x
if you analys it then it's not their best, Freddies Dr advised him not to do it, I think he was recovering from laryngitis but it's dpwn as legendary not just for them but in general despite him not being 100% the atmosphere he creates is fantastic that no one cares it was to raise money for famine relief in Africa this isn't even a Queen concert but you would think it was ! his crowd control is amazing and his ability to connect with any crowd
We love that he sneak this in: Freddie: This next song is only dedicated to beautiful people here tonight. It means all of you. Thank you for coming along and making this a great occasion. and great purpose for sure, i knew when i saw that Africa logo
😄I read one Queen fan word it perfectly when they said: "The reason so many people think Live Aid is Queen's BEST performance ever... is because they've never seen any of Queen's OTHER performances!" (Meaning that... while, YES, of course their Live Aid set is AWESOME... AWESOME is just their normal standard. There's a whole catalogue of other Queen concerts that are every bit as good.😉)
He was advised by a doctor not to do this as he had a bad throat but did it all the same and Queen smashed it. They only had 20 minutes and managed to cram more songs in to that time than any other. Also if they did not finish on time they were cut off. Queen finished to the second.
Congratulations on 1,000! And NEVER apologize for talking too much, if they don't like it dont watch You notice so many things, it's nice. Like Freddie played guitar only on the down stroke per Brian. Sadly that guitar was stolen. Lastly I'll say one thing that makes Queen stand out is Freddie's projection and articulation. You two are great!
Yes you are right it was a charity concert for the famine in Ethiopia, there were many artists performing that day so they only had 20 minutes each, there was also a concert in Philadelphia USA going on at the same time, so after each 20 minute set, they would then go over to USA for their 20 minute set while they got the stage ready for the next artist in Wembley. Hope that answers you question. Everyone there said Queen were the best on the day, I agree I watched it on TV on the day. Well done on your 1000 subscribers
There’s a video montage here on TH-cam of Freddie Mercury’s best interviews or whatever it’s called. In the second clip, which is sometimes from the 80s, he says (hopefully I got this right): “I hate to sit about thinking ‘Oh, we’ve heard a Queen album, let’s go see the stations and see if it sounds the same.’ I think by now, people who come to see our shows know that it’s not gonna to be exactly the same. We don’t want it to be. How boring if we reproduce note for note what’s on the album! They might as well sit at home and listen to the album, with a few visuals thrown in. I’d like them to come see, it’s a show, it’s entertainment, and our songs take on a different meaning when we do a stage show. So I mean what they hear on record can be totally different to what they hear on stage. I mean, we deliberately do that. And some songs are really like that. And some of the songs have that depth, I think, that where we can do it on an album and when we do it in a show we can totally twist it around. And we do what is best for the show.” This explains a lot about Queen’s process about playing live.
Performance was 20 minutes because that was the maximum allowed for each artist artist at Live Aid. And i pitied David Bowie for being the next performer up after Queen. If fact, as Bowie and Queen passed each other when Queen left the stage, Bowie jokingly said to Freddie "You bastards!".
This was not improvised as much as other performances. To my knowledge they were the only band to rent an empty theatre and practice for a couple of weeks to get the twenty minutes down to an exact time.
The reason it is so short is because this was a benefit for Famine in Ethiopia and each band only was allowed a 20 minutes slot. Queen decided to do several songs so they shortened some, sped up others so that they could offer more to the crowd. Queen managed to get 6 songs into their set and also a Call and Response (AY-Oh) by Freddie in that 20 minute slot. Congratulations on 1K! Did you notice that on Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Brian plays 3 different guitars, Acoustic, Stratocaster and his Red Special. I have noticed a few other times that one of these "Full Concerts" drops off the end of Champions. There are others that don't do that but it is sad because it kind of ruins the show for the listener to have the end mess up like that. It is such a good concert I am sorry that the video let you down at the end. Sadly, it really breaks the momentum.
I'm pretty sure they didn't do Bohemian Rhapsody in it's entirety for a couple of reasons. In the first place it's a 6 minute song with 20 minutes to perform. Second, the entire song live during the day outside? I honestly don't see how that would possible. They did do it live when they could lower the lights, but in that venue I just can't see it.
Remember this isn't a Queen concert, imagine playing after them, well in fact there's video and it was pretty awkward :P In fact Freddie's tribute concert was the biggest show for most of the singers/bands that went there (you should watch it ;)) and they weren't shit bands, they were mostly really good and respected artists. Like I say to me Queen and Michael Jackson are different "beasts" (and I don't like MJ particularly but can recognize greatness)
Congratulations on 1000 subscribers. Queen Live Aid contribution was well rehearsed. There is a video on their rehearsals. Also there is a very good analysis video regarding this concert which can answer your question.
Freddie had a horrible throat infection, his Dr. Told him not to sing, but he marched out and Queen won the day. Great reaction.
Yes it was a concert to raise money for Africa, lots of bands played each having 20mins, Freddie did really well considering His doctor advised Him not to do it.
what a legend ty for sharing!
And again, congratulations to 1,000 subscribers. More than deserved. 🥳😊
Queen songs, once you’ve heard the a few times, tend to stay in your brain!
so true! We soon are at 50 songs reacted to and we like them all somehow!
It was one of the largest satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time; an estimated audience of 1.9 billion, in 150 nations, watched the live broadcast, nearly 40 percent of the world population." (Wikipedia)
I watched it on tv at home in the U.S.
Wow 🥰 congratulations guys 🤩 beautiful sweet Freddie ❤️
CONGRATULATIONS on 1,000 subscribers!!
It’s because of your QUALITY content and because you are both “just yourselves” (genuine, NOT fake).💕
Your reaction today, MADE MY WEEK.🤩
If you ever decide you want to know more background about this Live Aid set:
There is an interesting/funny interview with the band, done just prior to the performance.
The other reason - according to Brian May & Roger Taylor - was that they "had an advantage" in having experience playing to HUGE stadium-sized audiences, which they had already been doing in places like South America, and the fact that Freddie was able to "connect" with every person in a huge audience.)
AND FYI, GUYS... THERE IS ALSO A QUEEN LIVE AID ENCORE!
Freddie & Brian had been asked to perform an acoustic song:
"IS THIS THE WORLD WE CREATED?" as part of Live Aid's evening closing numbers, a few hours later.
The video is available on the OFFICIAL LIVE AID CHANNEL.
BTW... Little-known FACTS:
Brian May said that when Freddie broke into those "AY-OHs" with the audience right after "Radio GaGa"....
The rest of the band DID NOT KNOW FRED WAS GOING TO DO THAT.🤯
So... when we see Brian standing at the back of the stage with his back to the audience and Fred does that first "AY OH!"...
Brian was actually thinking: "OH, so we're doing THAT now, are we ?!?!?" 😂
(Brian's exact words from an interview.)
...Freddie said that - when he got done with this set - his throat felt like he'd "been gargling with shards of glass" (his exact words)... because of the throat infection.
...Freddie's common-law husband, Jim Hutton, had NEVER seen Freddie or Queen perform!
Pure. Good joy!
Terrific to hit 1000 subscribers - warm wishes to you both.
ty so much!
CONGRATULATIONS ON 1000
Congrats!!! I’m excited to see this one from you guys.
I think when people first hear Queen they realize they do know some of their music & recognize they’re a very good band. But there is something about their live performances that really draws you in. You can’t help but be captivated , and appreciate the talent/music even more.
Congrats guys. Love Freddie forever 🥰.
So, a couple of things.
Freddie had a sore throat and his doctor advised him not to sing. However, Freddie insisted that he perform since so many people bought tickets.
Freddie bends over and shows his rear-end as a sign to the group’s previous manager who told him “ they would never make it big time.” It is “kiss my a___.”
Queen, brought along their own “Sound technicians”.
Amazing!
Live Aid was a charity concert to help starving people in Africa. Each band had 20 minutes to play. Tq for reacting to this. The best concert ever.
Congrats for your 1000 subs! Love your Queen reactions! Thx
Thank you
Glad your channel is doing well
ty!
Live aid was on all day with top acts who all had a 20 min slot. Queen killed it and were said to have given the best rock concert ever. It was also linked to a performance in America. It was watched by 1.4 billion as it was televised all over the world.
Freddie Mercury is a notch above a respectable team of vocalists. The most beautiful and strong voice in rock!!!!
@@marvalstith2749 Right?!?! It seems to have more importance than just the actual words…..
They played the "Good night. We love you at the end so they heard it. I agree that it's important to hear!
He laughed and said, Oh, you have the point, Mr Geldof."
Freddie was born to do spontaneous things, there weren't scripts to the live shows, he was doing what he actually felt he had to do.
👏👏👏Guys, congrats to the 1000 subscribers, you are great, never mind pausing and it was a brilliant idea to find the missing end of Champions, that proves again your enthusiasm. This is the shortest 20 minutest of the history. 🤣
Ty for all your information and support here, it was amazing!
Do you realize that Freddie was suffering from a throat infection during this performance and his doctor had actually told him not to perform?
Also, I am glad that you notice that Brian played 3 different guitars during "Crazy Little Thing Called Love. He started with the acoustic guitar, then switched to the telecaster, and then finished with his "Red Special"
BTW - Freddie wrote "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" while he was taking a bath in his Munich hotel while Queen was there recording an album..
No one came close to touching that performance❤️🎤🥁🔥👑🎸🎹
considered the best live perfomance in the history of the music of all time
Congratulations on 1k subs. This video has a pretty good explanation as to the other factors that elevate the performance for many: th-cam.com/video/aaPfTjd6q10/w-d-xo.html
ty so much for sharing!
Wow 🥰 congratulations guys 🤩 beautiful sweet Freddie ❤️ liked already subscribed 😁
Great reaction to the best live performance of all time! Queen were always better live! Freddie liked to change his songs during live performances, as he said people can sit at home & listen to the studio version! Keep up the Queen reactions please, love from Australia 🇦🇺
So happy for you guys 🎉 well done!
Keep it up
At about 9:30 pm, both Freddy and Brian were asked to do an encore with 'Is This The World We Created", a fitting song for Live Aid
The Show Must Go On 🖖
Always great input…..congrats on reaching 1000, very well deserved!
I so enjoy your reactions and look forward to many more ♥
Ty so much! also for the info
THAT was one of the most unique things about them I believe, they "made you feel like you were with them the whole time"
Great comments, absolutely agree 100%!❤️🎸❤️🥢❤️🎤
Congratulations on your 1K subscribers well deserved love your channel ❤ pause as much as you like it’s good to hear your comments ❤ would love you to react to The Story of Queen At Live Aid-Why was it so perfect hopefully it will go on your very extensive list keep up the good work ❤❤ you have to remember this wasn’t a Queen audience they weren’t announced as being on the list when all the tickets were sold x
if you analys it then it's not their best, Freddies Dr advised him not to do it, I think he was recovering from laryngitis
but it's dpwn as legendary not just for them but in general
despite him not being 100% the atmosphere he creates is fantastic that no one cares
it was to raise money for famine relief in Africa
this isn't even a Queen concert but you would think it was ! his crowd control is amazing
and his ability to connect with any crowd
Nobody but nobody could make everyone in the audience feel connected to Freddie and honestly I feel like they do decades later.
They put restrictors on the sound volume. Still the best live rock band ever.
Btw. Freddie did not go for all the high notes due to his bad throat - but then Roger did - he was always able to -
Your accent sounds like North Europe.... Anyway,go on brothers! Cheers from Italy and romania!
What the heck was that cut at the end???
Ha, you found it.
PS gotta do the encore👍.
This was well rehearsed. They had 19 minutes i think and if they didnt stick to it, the sound went off and they over ran by 12 seconds only.
It was short because it was 'Live Aid' the band's had 20 minutes each. Queen blew the others out of Wembley!
Queen never used synthercisors until very late in their career.
👑❤👏
Check out Wings of Pegasus about what made this set the best of all time.
Like I say to me Queen and Michael Jackson are different "beasts" (and I don't like MJ particularly but can recognize greatness)
if you download from the Queen youtube sight, it is my understanding they do not block your videos.
every band got 20 minutes to sing
Try led zepplin and pink floyd when you have time.
Ah, you picked the wrong version that missed the last couple of verses!
A 20-minute video you turned into 69 minutes really boring listening to you talk about nothing
This is just a bad recording, there others.
Congratulations on 1000 subscribers. Queen Live Aid contribution was well rehearsed. There is a video on their rehearsals. Also there is a very good analysis video regarding this concert which can answer your question.
