As 67 year old man who was lucky enough to be at Wembley stadium that day, I think it’s brilliant that queen is still appreciated by people all these years later.
I can't begin to explain how much joy it brings me to see younger generations still be in awe of Freddie. He was asked "What's your favorite instrument to play?" He said, "The audience, darling!" God, the man is still a legend!
What makes Freddie's control of the crowd more amazing is the fact that this was not a Queen crowd. When the tickets for this concert were sold Queen were not yet on the bill.
It was absolutely amazing, plus the fact Freddie knew the time he was set to go on, was like 2 in the afternoon, no headliner plays that early.... But Freddie knew, put us on, we will take over. So they signed up last min, took that early time set, and he feasted. This is legit the greatest show ever recorded. Ever

The part that gets me is that Queen was an afterthought at that concert, a lot of people considered them to be has beens. And they went on to put on what is widely regarded to be the single greatest concert set of all time.
Others who had been invited to play didn't take it as seriously as Queen. They band rehearsed and got their timing down pat. Queen had been on a 'break' prior to this and most people thought they wouldn't play well. I remember that others thought they were has beens.
Its a kind of magic...... That was Freddie on a bad voice day. He'd been ill, and was told not to sing. So, even in that state, he still sounds leagues above anyone else, ever...
Freddie's throat specialist, who examined him that morning, wanted him to cancel his performance, saying he could permanently harm his vocal chords! So Freddie bravely gave it all, & then some. 💛🧡❤️
Yes, others sounded croaky, off key, cracking voices but Freddie, despite throat problems that day, STILL sounded just like the albums! He was a staggeringly talented man. Honestly though, although each did their solo projects there was always something missing from the solos. It was the alchemy that occurred when they worked together.
An observer of the rehearsals for the concert said that Queen was the one band that really worked hard at it to make sure they put on a good show for the audience. This is why they did such a good job, they prove that the best are the ones that really do the hard work at their craft.
I feel that, that's why I feel morally and ethically obligated to dance my ass off, my way of saying thanks. I went to a NOFX concert once and no one was moving at all. Felt rude. I was like, "outta my way, losers, i'm on my way to the stage to start off the dance floor"

LUCKY! I wqas only 7 so I couldn't go but we did watch it. If I remember right it was broadcastedd on all 3 major networks, NBC, ABC, and CBS. FOX wasn't around yet
When the crowd clapped in unison when Freddie sang radio gaga, from that moment he realised how much power he had over the crowd and music in general, also how powerful the band now were. Freddie had the world in the palm of his hand for that 20 minutes, and the world was happy to be grasped by him
This was voted by the entire music industry as the best live set by any band, ever! Even in the US, the audience was reacting just like the one in the UK was. Awesome.
I was 5 years old when this happened. I watched it on TV with my parents. I remember my mother dancing about to the music, and I remember my dad making fun of Freddie for being gay the entire time. But, I didn't pay attention to the hate coming from my father at the time. All I saw or cared about, even at only 5 years old, was that this was the greatest rock performance that I had ever seen, or would ever see even to this very day. Freddie was electric on stage and everyone in that crowd knew every word to his music. I asked Santa that year for the Queen album that year. Today? I'm married to an amazing woman and we have 2 beautiful little girls that BOTH love Queen, and know their songs. They enjoy it with me every time their songs come on my Pandora station. I'm an old man in lockdown in London and I must tell you that I really enjoyed your reaction as I was exposed to him in the 1970s. I wore out all my records with repeated playing. It's hard to believe that he was a refugee who escaped with his family to London with only the clothes he stood up in. To see your face when exposed to Queen was priceless. Thank you so much.
Not really refugees. His father worked for the British govt in Zanzibar. His parents sent him to boarding school in India. They were British citizens because Zanzibar was a British protectorate. Freddie was born a UK citizen.
The day Freddie Mercury showed the world he's the greatest frontman of all time. Was nobody like it before him and there's been nobody like him since. Simply the best there was and the best that there will ever be.
I can't count the number of times I've watched Queen at Live Aid including live (on TV) on the day but I still get goosebumps. I'm a lifelong Queen fan.
Godamnit, whenever YT recommends a video with Queen at Live Aid, I cant stop myself from watching the whole damn thing for the hundredth time. It's just so damn good and makes me so happy to listen to every minute of this. Queen and Freddie were legends and nothing really compares. This performance was absolutely the greatest live show ever. I would give almost anything to have been there.
"Somebody send me a guitar." so I can learn how to play. When Brian May wanted to learn to play, he could not afford to buy a guitar. He and his father built a guitar out of materials they had around the house so he could play. That is the guitar you see Dr. Brian May playing in this concert. It is called the Red Special and is probably the the highest valued guitar on the planet should it ever go up for sale or auction.
Live Aid was a huge event, it's said anyone that was someone in the music world at the time was playing there, and here comes Queen at the last minute and steals the show. What a legendary band.

I agree with you 100%... He performed "Love of my Life" in Montreal with Brian May. I was completely teared out when he finished. Check it out...there is a woman at the end completely enthralled with what she had just witnessed.

My husband attended this concert. He was a 22 years young GI stationed in Germany at the time. We wanted to say we truly appreciated and applauded your enjoyment of it. Freddie will NEVER die!
When Queen ended their set, David Bowie is reported to say, "How the fuck am I suppose to follow that?!" Bowie was scheduled to be the next act on the live aid stage. Made it to the end of your video. Great reactions!

I was there that day remember this wasn't a queen concert but the whole audience knew word for word every queen song ,they were stars of the show and it gives me chills even now, what a legend Freddie mercury
Live aid in 1985 was a miracle in technology to be perfectly honest. It was an all-day concert that started in the UK and ended in Philadelphia. It was broadcast on MTV from early in the morning until after midnight. I know that because I was 16 years old and I used our VCR and recorded the entire concert. I even cut out the commercials except for two when I had to get something to eat or go to the bathroom. I remember that. There were all kinds of Acts that day from Paul mccartney, Elton John, The who, Madonna, Phil Collins, George Michael. The only acts I really remember are queen, madonna, and Duran Duran. I graduated high school in 1987 and was a huge Madonna and Duran Duran fan. But I had been a queen fan since I was in elementary school one of my very first records, a single 45 vinyl to be exact was Another One Bites the Dust by Queen. One of the reasons Queen is reacted to from live aid is because they stole the entire show. Most people will say this was one of the best live performances by any band ever! And I definitely agree. Thanks for reacting to this. I love watching new fans of Queen and Freddie Mercury enjoy this concert. He was one of a kind. There are only a few celebrities that I have cried when they passed away and definitely Freddie Mercury was one. Phil Collins appeared in London, caught the Concord, and drummed for Led Zep in Philly. P.S. the Led Zep set sucked. They never approved a release of it. This was simultaneously shown on giant screens in Philadelphia. There were 72000 in London and 80000 peeps in Philly. The hand claps were going on in Philly at the same time during Radio Gaga.

Yes, I was there, at Live Aid. It was a very long, very hot, very emotional day. Even at the time I was watching it I was aware that I would remember that moment forever. It’s very rare to have that realization actually at the moment you’re watching something. The week before, I saw Springsteen’s Born in the USA tour at the same venue. Stunning as that was, Queen at Live Aid was the best I ever saw. EDIT: Made it til the end of your video.
Wow! That must have been AMAZING to be there just in general seeing all of the acts but to see Queen and Freddie Mercury perform live is just BEYOND! I did see Springsteen here in Chicago,, IL USA in 1984 when he toured after releasing the "Born In The Usa" album. That was an AMAZING concert as I'm a huge Springsteen fan and had been for years prior to the release of that album. But still that is probably very small compared to being at Live Aid!
I watched this to the end. These were not die hard queen fans. It was Live Aid with a wide mixture of music fans. Freddy had them eating out of his hands. It was beautiful to watch. Best set of the day and the night. Thanks for sharing this. 💕😊

I remember watching this live on tv. Radio Ga Ga is my favorite Queen tune. When they played that song at Wembly for Live Aid, and I saw the crowd participating, I started to cry. The movie Bohemian Rhapsody portrayed this concert as well as it could be done. But absolutely nothing compares the power Queen had playing live. Freddie was a genius and a gift.
That must have been amazing. I never got to see Queen live (when Freddy was alive and haven't seen them since his death either) I would have loved to see them live. That is what you call a once in a lifetime experience
The thing that has always amazed me is Freddie always sounds like his albums if not better live. We were blessed to being touched by this man's talent.
@@nthingtoofear I think it's because in studio, they all did all the harmonies, layers and layers of them. So your ear picks up the consistency. Many times in live performances, Roger takes the higher notes and Freddie goes lower, but it sounds normal because you are hearing pieces of the same harmony.
I second that, tbh I enjoy live Queen performances over the studio versions. So far I've only heard one guy who is better at live like Freddie, and he was Honggi from FT Island (back in 2017 when they promoted their Where's the truth album).
Queen and Freddie totally stole the show-He has this amazing ability to get his audience to join him .Remember this is live aid so the audience came to watch all the acts so not necessarily Queen fans but yet he had them all in palm of his hands .He is greatly missed -One of the best performer EVER I can watch this over and over again. I was lucky enough to have seen Freddie perform with the band 4 times, from 77 to 82, and they were the BEST live band of their era. Always an incredible show with lots of play between the band and the audience.
Exactly the point many miss. People attended for a cause and to listen to some of the best groups Britain had to offer at the time. Many, were not Queen fans but you can be assured, all knew they had witnessed something special and I suspect, continued to sing/hum/whistle Queen songs on the way home, Pure magic.

I was 41when Queen performed this concert. I was not there. During that time they had a bad rap for Freddy’s partying and his alternative lifestyle. Fortunately people got past that and recognized that he was a genius in his own right and the band, as you saw in the video, brought everything together. They did a movie on his life, worth the time to check it out. Glad to see you enjoyed the concert.

This isn't a regular Queen concert. This was Live AID, which was literally a global all day concert on TV. This part is at Wembley, obviously. Every top act played in this, just about. But even with all them, Freddie stole the show.
Yep ~ poor David Bowie had to go on after Queen. I would not have wanted to be him at that point, but he really did a good job as well, but totally different type of act. Paul McCartney was the last act and due to technical difficulties--the first two minutes of "Let It Be" were inaudible.

I was 7 years old when this concert was held, but I still remember it, we had it on tv live all day at home in England, everyone but everyone was watching that day. Also no way they would let that many fans into Wembley today, look at the size of the crowd! But eesh, what a man, Freddy was taken far far far too soon.
I love Queen! I remember being 15 and watching this on MTV. It was so moving that I was in tears. I truly miss Freddie. My dad introduced Freddie/Queen to me before I even started school. This is a huge part of my childhood. Their music was and always will be a huge part of my life. I passed that on to my children and they have now passed it on to my grandchildren. Oh! And I watched until the very end... TWICE!!
I was there at this concert and the July, Queen's "it's a kind of magic concert at the same venue in the old Wembley stadium in 1985. Them to days were the best days of my life. There was a 185,00 and 187.550 in July. Fantastic two days. In the July concert they put the water cannons on us all. Best rock/pop band ever. R.I.P Feddie sadly missed,never forgotten.
I was 22 in 85' for Live Aid, this performance blew every other artist off the stage, and then Freddie and Brian came back later to sing, "The world we created", it was amazing! When we all followed Freddie's lead with Radio Gaga it was electric, but when he was doing his vocal warm ups that he wanted us to do with him it blew my mind when he said, "ALRIGHT" at the end, we all screamed "Alright" back! (THAT felt like power!) I can't believe there was ANYONE who didn't watch until the end!

That is what is know as, having an audience in the palm of your hand. Truly masterful performance from probably the greatest musical entertainer that has ever lived. IMO
The greatest outstanding trait of Freddie was that how he interacted with his audience as if they were part of the performances. Most modern singers still don't do that.
I will be forever grateful that Freddie got his well deserved moment recorded for all time. I cry every time I watch this. He was taken from us a scant 6 years on. We still miss you Freddie 💜

I watch the whole thing with you to the end. I’m 74 years old and I love Freddie Mercury. It breaks my heart that he was sick during this concert. He already had been diagnosed with HIV and he actually had AIDS at this point, as I recall, sometimes he had to make adjustments to his voice. Brian May is such a brilliant brilliant guitarist. He gave me great joy and I cannot count how many times I danced around the house singing his lyrics with him. You also gave me great joy just to watch you enjoying this concert.
No he has not been diagnosed yet with hiv at this point. He had been told by his doctor to rest his vocal cords .So when you hear him change his way of singing its because of that. It is so subtle though that its hard to catch it.

I saw Queen in Oakland, Calif around 1979. Billy Squire was the opening act. After he was done, the person I was with thought he was Queen. I told him to sit back down and hold on tight. After Queen's awesome performance the next day he went out and bought every album. It was still one of the best concerts I went to and I've been to 100's. Miss you Freddie.
Freddy was probably a once in a generation musician on the order of Mozart. Not only was he a extraordinary composer and arranger, he had a 5 octave vocal range.
Not bad at all. His charisma the way they thought on how to use there 20mins and all the rehearsing paid off after that 1 perfomance they gained even more fans. They took it seriously. The whole band are fantastic. Absolutely lv them ❤️
I absolutely love when people watch this live aid show. I grew up in the hood, and I'm not looking for recognition or anything but my parents see this show, and it gives ME Goosebumps watching ... What is ridiculous about this is that in 1985 Queen were thought of as being if not has-beens, certainly past their best. They got 20 minutes because that was how long Simple Minds got to set up their stage (in Philadelphia). At Wembley, they were followed by David Bowie (possibly the biggest rock star in the world at the time) who met them in the wings as they came off stage and said to Freddie (Mercury and Bowie were friends): "How the hell am I supposed to follow that, Freddie?" Bowie had 20 minutes to compose himself while Simple Minds were performing in Philly and then had to perform. PS if you want to know just how he did - his setlist was TVC 15, Rebel Rebel, Modern Love and Heroes - all four can be found on TH-cam, though you can't find the full set as a single video. It's probably the second-best set of the entire show. Queen had a huge career revival as a result of this show, which I'm sure surprises no-one who has heard it.
For live concert goers this is what people want in a performance. Great music and great musicians with the most charismatic entertainer of all time. The way he connected to his audience was legendary . This concert had many big names in music coming together to help our fellow man . Very commendable. But this crowd came to see Freddie do what Freddie does. He didn’t just sing the songs he made the audience become part of the song. I saw him in Detroit at The Masonic Temple. Posh concert hall. I’d never cried before during a concert but that man overwhelmed me. His voice and his stage presence were off the charts. Music is subjective so I can never speak for others. But I’ve never seen anybody like him either before or after . Michael Jackson could match him I guess. Mike was amazing. Plus he was able to appeal to all races and age groups.
Live Aid was perhaps the biggest concert ever. Two huge concerts on the same days in England and America with the biggest bands. It was amazing to watch. I was 19.
I was 19 too. I'm from Scotland and I remember going up to Glasgow that Saturday morning, I think it started about midday, and me and my friends just sat in the pub all day and watch the whole thing. I was also a massive Quo fan who opened the show. It just felt like the whole world stopped that day to watch it.

This brings back memories... I was 24 at the time and in the crowd near the front. It was an incredible, magical day. I was also lucky enough to see the 3 concerts they did at Wembley Stadium the following year. Support acts were INXS and Status Quo. I think Queen were truly the best of British pop music. This was one of the best days of my life.
What a day! I wasn't there, just one of the billion or so around the world who watched the simulcast. Beers were poured and herbs were burned, and the whole world sang and partied as one for one day. And $127 million was raised for African famine relief that day. (About $311 million in today's dollars) It was a beautiful thing.
Watched it at a Live aid party at a friend's house. MTV was broadcasting it and even the whole group at that party was glued to Freddie Mercury's performance. It was truly a historic moment in the making and each time I watch Queen's performance I watch it all and have goosebumps and a smile every time. They aren't just a band, they, individually and together, are legends!!!
I think it sounds that way because roger taylor (the drummer) usually sings the really high and loud parts with him live. You can hear it in that song very clearly when you know it, and it makes freddies voice sound like it's going because you actually hear 2 different voices layering over each other.
Actually freddy had just recovered from laryngitis the day before and had been told by dr not to perform the concert. That's why his voice cracked and he sang in a lower register at times
Seeing you hear this and see this with an open mind is a wonerful thing. Years later it reaches through the screen and grabs you with both hands. Met Brian May when I was working with his wife, a very nice man.

The part that gets me is that Queen was an afterthought at that concert, a lot of people considered them to be has beens. And they went on to put on what is widely regarded to be the single greatest concert set of all time.
Others who had been invited to play didn't take it as seriously as Queen. They band rehearsed and got their timing down pat. Queen had been on a 'break' prior to this and most people thought they wouldn't play well. I remember that others thought they were has beens.
Its a kind of magic......
That was Freddie on a bad voice day. He'd been ill, and was told not to sing. So, even in that state, he still sounds leagues above anyone else, ever...

Yes, others sounded croaky, off key, cracking voices but Freddie, despite throat problems that day, STILL sounded just like the albums! He was a staggeringly talented man. Honestly though, although each did their solo projects there was always something missing from the solos. It was the alchemy that occurred when they worked together.
An observer of the rehearsals for the concert said that Queen was the one band that really worked hard at it to make sure they put on a good show for the audience. This is why they did such a good job, they prove that the best are the ones that really do the hard work at their craft.
I feel that, that's why I feel morally and ethically obligated to dance my ass off, my way of saying thanks. I went to a NOFX concert once and no one was moving at all. Felt rude. I was like, "outta my way, losers, i'm on my way to the stage to start off the dance floor"

When the crowd clapped in unison when Freddie sang radio gaga, from that moment he realised how much power he had over the crowd and music in general, also how powerful the band now were. Freddie had the world in the palm of his hand for that 20 minutes, and the world was happy to be grasped by him
This was voted by the entire music industry as the best live set by any band, ever! Even in the US, the audience was reacting just like the one in the UK was. Awesome.

I was 5 years old when this happened. I watched it on TV with my parents. I remember my mother dancing about to the music, and I remember my dad making fun of Freddie for being gay the entire time. But, I didn't pay attention to the hate coming from my father at the time. All I saw or cared about, even at only 5 years old, was that this was the greatest rock performance that I had ever seen, or would ever see even to this very day. Freddie was electric on stage and everyone in that crowd knew every word to his music. I asked Santa that year for the Queen album that year.
Today? I'm married to an amazing woman and we have 2 beautiful little girls that BOTH love Queen, and know their songs. They enjoy it with me every time their songs come on my Pandora station. Ahhh memories man. Thanks for this, Adogg.

I'm an old man in lockdown in London and I must tell you that I really enjoyed your reaction as I was exposed to him in the 1970s. I wore out all my records with repeated playing. It's hard to believe that he was a refugee who escaped with his family to London with only the clothes he stood up in. To see your face when exposed to Queen was priceless. Thank you so much.

That is the guitar you see Dr. Brian May playing in this concert. It is called the Red Special and is probably the the highest valued guitar on the planet should it ever go up for sale or auction.
Live Aid was a huge event, it's said anyone that was someone in the music world at the time was playing there, and here comes Queen at the last minute and steals the show. What a legendary band.

My husband attended this concert. He was a 22 years young GI stationed in Germany at the time. We wanted to say we truly appreciated and applauded your enjoyment of it. Freddie will NEVER die!

I was there that day remember this wasn't a queen concert but the whole audience knew word for word every queen song ,they were stars of the show and it gives me chills even now, what a legend Freddie mercury
Live aid in 1985 was a miracle in technology to be perfectly honest. It was an all-day concert that started in the UK and ended in Philadelphia. It was broadcast on MTV from early in the morning until after midnight. I know that because I was 16 years old and I used our VCR and recorded the entire concert. I even cut out the commercials except for two when I had to get something to eat or go to the bathroom. I remember that. There were all kinds of Acts that day from Paul mccartney, Elton John, The who, Madonna, Phil Collins, George Michael. The only acts I really remember are queen, madonna, and Duran Duran. I graduated high school in 1987 and was a huge Madonna and Duran Duran fan. But I had been a queen fan since I was in elementary school one of my very first records, a single 45 vinyl to be exact was Another One Bites the Dust by Queen. One of the reasons Queen is reacted to from live aid is because they stole the entire show. Most people will say this was one of the best live performances by any band ever! And I definitely agree. Thanks for reacting to this. I love watching new fans of Queen and Freddie Mercury enjoy this concert. He was one of a kind. There are only a few celebrities that I have cried when they passed away and definitely Freddie Mercury was one. Also I grew up with Michael jackson, Prince, George Michael and I cried when they passed away as well. I feel very blessed to have grown up with 70s and '80s music and I enjoy your channel very much. Live Aid was an event to free the starving in Ethiopa. I was 30 and just had a baby six weeks before. I’ll never forget it.
I actually took 2 days sick-leave in my job and got in major troubles. But it was worth it.

Yes, I was there, at Live Aid. It was a very long, very hot, very emotional day. Even at the time I was watching it I was aware that I would remember that moment forever. It’s very rare to have that realization actually at the moment you’re watching something. The week before, I saw Springsteen’s Born in the USA tour at the same venue. Stunning as that was, Queen at Live Aid was the best I ever saw.

I did see Springsteen here in Chicago,, IL USA in 1984 when he toured after releasing the "Born In The Usa" album. That was an AMAZING concert as I'm a huge Springsteen fan and had been for years prior to the release of that album. But still that is probably very small compared to being at Live Aid!

I remember watching this live on tv. Radio Ga Ga is my favorite Queen tune. When they played that song at Wembly for Live Aid, and I saw the crowd participating, I started to cry. The movie Bohemian Rhapsody portrayed this concert as well as it could be done. But absolutely nothing compares the power Queen had playing live. Freddie was a genius and a gift.

@@nthingtoofear I think it's because in studio, they all did all the harmonies, layers and layers of them. So your ear picks up the consistency. Many times in live performances, Roger takes the higher notes and Freddie goes lower, but it sounds normal because you are hearing pieces of the same harmony.
I second that, tbh I enjoy live Queen performances over the studio versions.
So far I've only heard one guy who is better at live like Freddie, and he was Honggi from FT Island (back in 2017 when they promoted their Where's the truth album).
Queen and Freddie totally stole the show-He has this amazing ability to get his audience to join him .Remember this is live aid so the audience came to watch all the acts so not necessarily Queen fans but yet he had them all in palm of his hands .He is greatly missed -One of the best performer EVER I can watch this over and over again. I was lucky enough to have seen Freddie perform with the band 4 times, from 77 to 82, and they were the BEST live band of their era. Always an incredible show with lots of play between the band and the audience.

The fact that the “sold out arena” wasn’t even for Queen, it was for everyone performing at Live Aid. That was truly a good day in music history.
Exactly the point many miss. People attended for a cause and to listen to some of the best groups Britain had to offer at the time. Many, were not Queen fans but you can be assured, all knew they had witnessed something special and I suspect, continued to sing/hum/whistle Queen songs on the way home, Pure magic.

I was 41when Queen performed this concert. I was not there. During that time they had a bad rap for Freddy’s partying and his alternative lifestyle. Fortunately people got past that and recognized that he was a genius in his own right and the band, as you saw in the video, brought everything together. They did a movie on his life, worth the time to check it out. Glad to see you enjoyed the concert.

This isn't a regular Queen concert. This was Live AID, which was literally a global all day concert on TV. This part is at Wembley, obviously. Every top act played in this, just about. But even with all them, Freddie stole the show.
Yep ~ poor David Bowie had to go on after Queen. I would not have wanted to be him at that point, but he really did a good job as well, but totally different type of act. Paul McCartney was the last act and due to technical difficulties--the first two minutes of "Let It Be" were inaudible.

I was 7 years old when this concert was held, but I still remember it, we had it on tv live all day at home in England, everyone but everyone was watching that day. Also no way they would let that many fans into Wembley today, look at the size of the crowd! But eesh, what a man, Freddy was taken far far far too soon.

I love Queen! I remember being 15 and watching this on MTV. It was so moving that I was in tears. I truly miss Freddie. My dad introduced Freddie/Queen to me before I even started school. This is a huge part of my childhood. Their music was and always will be a huge part of my life. I passed that on to my children and they have now passed it on to my grandchildren. Oh! And I watched until the very end... TWICE!!

I was there at this concert and the July, Queen's "it's a kind of magic concert at the same venue in the old Wembley stadium in 1985.
Them to days were the best days of my life. There was a 185,00 and 187.550 in July. Fantastic two days. In the July concert they put the water cannons on us all. Best rock/pop band ever. R.I.P Feddie sadly missed,never forgotten.

I was 22 in 85' for Live Aid, this performance blew every other artist off the stage, and then Freddie and Brian came back later to sing, "The world we created", it was amazing! When we all followed Freddie's lead with Radio Gaga it was electric, but when he was doing his vocal warm ups that he wanted us to do with him it blew my mind when he said, "ALRIGHT" at the end, we all screamed "Alright" back! (THAT felt like power!) I can't believe there was ANYONE who didn't watch until the end!
"We Will Rock You" has been a big crowd energizer in sports arenas for a lot of years. And it's been paired with "We Are the Champions" since they were first released.

I watch the whole thing with you to the end. I’m 74 years old and I love Freddie Mercury. It breaks my heart that he was sick during this concert. He already had been diagnosed with HIV and he actually had AIDS at this point, as I recall, sometimes he had to make adjustments to his voice. Brian May is such a brilliant brilliant guitarist. He gave me great joy and I cannot count how many times I danced around the house singing his lyrics with him. You also gave me great joy just to watch you enjoying this concert.
No he has not been diagnosed yet with hiv at this point. He had been told by his doctor to rest his vocal cords .So when you hear him change his way of singing its because of that. It is so subtle though that its hard to catch it.

I saw Queen in Oakland, Calif around 1979. Billy Squire was the opening act. After he was done, the person I was with thought he was Queen. I told him to sit back down and hold on tight. After Queen's awesome performance the next day he went out and bought every album. It was still one of the best concerts I went to and I've been to 100's. Miss you Freddie.

I absolutely love when people watch this live aid show. I grew up in the hood, and I'm not looking for recognition or anything but my parents see this show, and it gives ME Goosebumps watching ... So when I showed my friends this live aid concert, man the hardest dude was like bro that was fucking Amazing
I saw them in concert in 82 they played 17 songs plus came back on stage and did 4 more for the encore the best group ever
What is ridiculous about this is that in 1985 Queen were thought of as being if not has-beens, certainly past their best. They got 20 minutes because that was how long Simple Minds got to set up their stage (in Philadelphia). At Wembley, they were followed by David Bowie (possibly the biggest rock star in the world at the time) who met them in the wings as they came off stage and said to Freddie (Mercury and Bowie were friends): "How the hell am I supposed to follow that, Freddie?" Bowie had 20 minutes to compose himself while Simple Minds were performing in Philly and then had to perform.
PS if you want to know just how he did - his setlist was TVC 15, Rebel Rebel, Modern Love and Heroes - all four can be found on TH-cam, though you can't find the full set as a single video. It's probably the second-best set of the entire show.
Queen had a huge career revival as a result of this show, which I'm sure surprises no-one who has heard it.

For live concert goers this is what people want in a performance. Great music and great musicians with the most charismatic entertainer of all time. The way he connected to his audience was legendary . This concert had many big names in music coming together to help our fellow man . Very commendable. But this crowd came to see Freddie do what Freddie does. He didn’t just sing the songs he made the audience become part of the song. I saw him in Detroit at The Masonic Temple. Posh concert hall. I’d never cried before during a concert but that man overwhelmed me. His voice and his stage presence were off the charts. Music is subjective so I can never speak for others. But I’ve never seen anybody like him either before or after . Michael Jackson could match him I guess. Mike was amazing. Plus he was able to appeal to all races and age groups.
Live Aid was perhaps the biggest concert ever. Two huge concerts on the same days in England and America with the biggest bands. It was amazing to watch. I was 19.
I was 19 too. I'm from Scotland and I remember going up to Glasgow that Saturday morning, I think it started about midday, and me and my friends just sat in the pub all day and watch the whole thing. I was also a massive Quo fan who opened the show. It just felt like the whole world stopped that day to watch it.

This brings back memories... I was 24 at the time and in the crowd near the front. It was an incredible, magical day. I was also lucky enough to see the 3 concerts they did at Wembley Stadium the following year. Support acts were INXS and Status Quo. I think Queen were truly the best of British pop music. This was one of the best days of my life.
And Phil Collins played at both!
What a day! I wasn't there, just one of the billion or so around the world who watched the simulcast. Beers were poured and herbs were burned, and the whole world sang and partied as one for one day. And $127 million was raised for African famine relief that day. (About $311 million in today's dollars) It was a beautiful thing.

Watched it at a Live aid party at a friend's house. MTV was broadcasting it and even the whole group at that party was glued to Freddie Mercury's performance. It was truly a historic moment in the making and each time I watch Queen's performance I watch it all and have goosebumps and a smile every time. They aren't just a band, they, individually and together, are legends!!!
You can actually hear when his voice was going during "We are the Champions." His voice just made it for the concert.
I think it sounds that way because roger taylor (the drummer) usually sings the really high and loud parts with him live. You can hear it in that song very clearly when you know it, and it makes freddies voice sound like it's going because you actually hear 2 different voices layering over each other.
Actually freddy had just recovered from laryngitis the day before and had been told by dr not to perform the concert. That's why his voice cracked and he sang in a lower register at times
Seeing you hear this and see this with an open mind is a wonerful thing. Years later it reaches through the screen and grabs you with both hands. Met Brian May when I was working with his wife, a very nice man.
Watched the entire video and actually saw it on TV live at the time. The best concert ever that I witnessed and Queen rocked it. Your video brought back memories that will last forever. Thanks
