If you don't accept Church Councils or the Authority of the Pope, how can you call yourself a Catholic? As St. Cyprian of Carthage said, one cannot hold the Church's ordination if they don't hold to the unity of St. Peter.

Let's revise that for a second. A rushed process to canonize all the popes that came out of Vatican II isn't suspicious? The declining of attendance in mass. The amount of people that no longer believe in the body and blood of Christ due to receiving it in the hand. The declining of vocations, yet the traditionalists who adhere to pre-vatican II norms are flourishing. I mean how legitimate is the council if bishops are against bishops and priests against priests?
Vatican II never announced new dogma. There's nothing within it's documents saying that if you don't agree with it you are anathema. Every ecumenical council before it says that you are anathema if you don't agree with it's canons and decrees.

Only one bishop was smart enough to not sign any document because he wanted to read what he was supposed to sign.

@@StanleyPinchak Heresy is a spiritual crime which requires a trial. Perhaps what you mean is, can someone who has been accused of heresy be in leadership? Yes, of course they can. Leaders and non-leaders are accused of all sorts of things all the time. That is why trials are needed to be fair to the accused. Otherwise no one would ever accept leaders they did not like.
Vigano had a trial. He decided not to show up and basically agreed with their accusations. Whatever your issue is with our Holy Father, that does not justify Vigano's actions or defending schism.
The pope in particular cannot be a formal heretic as he is protected by the promise of Christ over the successors of St Peter. Interestingly enough, the belief that the pope can be a formal heretic or that the Church can defect is a heresy - one that Vigano himself seems guilty of. Then again, his trial was for schism which is worse.

I don't disagree with this decision one bit, it was definitely warranted, and he needed to be silenced. But what happened with all the rhetoric that excommunication is not the way to go, that it is uncharitable? It seems like speaking against God is tolerated, mocking the faith is tolerated, mocking the sacrifice in Calvary not a big deal, leading people towards hell can be tolerated, legislating and making a career out of murdering children can be tolerated, twisting the word of God so that good is bad and bad is good, making a mockery out marriage and human sexuality can be tolerated... but you can't go after certain people - I say people because I really do not think the excommunication had anything to do with preserving the integrity of the office.

Viganò made many excellent points - but saying Francis is not the pope is an act of schism.
I say he is not the pope. Not because of what happened during Vatican II, not even because of what transpired between him and Ratzenberger- but because he does not possess, defend, or teach the Catholic Faith. You only need to be a Catholic and a man to be the pope. If you lack the Faith, you simply cannot be Catholic. If you are not Catholic then you cannot be the pope. It is that simple.

In the history of the Church we have had morally bad popes. Still, they were and are recognized as valid popes to this day.
Mr. Vigano has failed to be obedient. His hapless followers use the same logic as other schismatics - God is leading him to rebel against a legitimate pope - perhaps a bad pope or even an evil pope but still is the pope.

Right decision. Why is he there when he took oath of obedience at the alter when he was ordained? If he does not recognize Pope or does not obey he should have automatically resigned instead of getting himself excommunicated.

Makes no logical sense. How do you expect Jesus to forgive sins when the sinners do not even acknowledge own sins? It's is up to Vigano to repent and return to the Church but at the moment he's acting like Martin Luther. The Pope has been so generous with time by giving Vigano years to reflect but Vigano persists to commit sin of schism (Canon Law 751). If Vigano repents, Pope Francis will lift the excommunication instantly. It's up to Vigano. Remember the parable of the prodigal son. It's not up to the Father, it's up to the son.
