How to Use a MITER SAW

  • Learn your way around a Mitre Saw while seeing how to make the four basic types of cuts this tool is capable of. Those cuts are cross cut, miter cut, bevel cut, and compound cut. It is so easy once you get the hang of it, and definitely my go-to for cutting down 2x4s, PVC pipes, any kind of lumber, or whatever else crosses my path.
    This kind of saw might look terrifying, but they're actually one of the most easiest and safest large power tools to use! (But if you're a bit younger, this tool is one of those you should ask your parents about).

    *Remember that this saw needs to have adjustments made to make 0 or 90 cuts accurately **MyBest.Tools** I had to use a right angle on the deck and blade and then adjust the bolt to get the correct reading. Once this is done, it works great.*

    Great overview of the miter saw, you two!
    I'm really happy Xyla mentioned that it's important to take off rings and jewelry and watches. I know several people who are missing fingers because of this. What happens is that if the saw nicks your skin, you just get a little cut (you'll need a bandaid... maybe stitches...). If it touches a metal ring though, the blade won't be able to cut the metal and instead the force of the spinning blade will pull your whole hand into the saw and it's likely you'll lose a finger or worse. Avoid that bogus situation entirely and pocket your bling :-)

    Why is it better to let the blade stop before you let the saw back up?

    • @BeautyandtheBolt
      @BeautyandtheBolt  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Technically not a total necessity, but it is definitely a best practice and safety tip. The spinning blade can catch the workpiece and cause splintering or even fling it if you haven't fastened it down properly. Letting the blade stop can also leave a cleaner edge.
      That being said, I'm totally guilty of not letting the blade stop in big projects with a ton of 2"x4" cuts where the ends will never be seen and I don't care if the ends are nice. Buuuuut it's not recommended.

    My Dad has been doing remodeling for a living since the 2000s. He rarely ever uses eye protection, and has never used any ear protection in his entire career. Although, he always wears his prescription glasses. And no body else he's worked with has either. What's the point of ear protection anyway? It's not that loud. You also have to consider the fact that somebody might call for you, and if you're wearing ear protection, you wouldn't be able to hear them. If there would be an emergency, you wouldn't be aware. In addition, he and his coworkers would always cut wood much more quickly than you did. They don't have time to put on ear protection, spend a few seconds cutting something, and then remove their ear protection. Everything has to be done quickly.

      Really can't support what you're saying here: shop noises are WELL above the threshold for serious hearing damage, and eye protection is a MUST for anything involving debris. Even sawdust at high speed can seriously damage your eyes, and metal burrs can permanently ruin your eyesight.
      Good point about hearing on the shop floor or construction site. But the answer isn't "no hearing protection" - in fact a lot of hearing protection can AUGMENT the important sounds like voices while crushing the harmful noise. Check out a pair like this: www.amazon.com/3M-12321-PELTOR-Headset-Headband/dp/B01M8GOC7G/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ref=ast_p_ei&linkCode=sl1&tag=wc0af7-20&linkId=9bc166ffc69a5f7438ecc18b8c13a207.
      We seriously hope you or your dad consider protective gear going forward. Theres a professional market for it because it's important, not because we're anal

    • @Spaced1sco
      @Spaced1sco 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seriously, you can't promote not to wear protection. A workshop can be very loud. As a video instructor you always promote protection! They do that very wisely.
      You however can do whatever you want that information.

      Ear protection is not about your ears hurting while you are cutting. It is about the long term effects of repetious sounds at the same frequency which eventually permanently results in deafness to the that frequency.
      Tell me, one day when you can't hear the high notes of your grandchild's singing, that that's of no importance...
