    At 4:15, you mentioned boards that are slightly too wide to cut with your blade. Another safe way to cut it is to elevate your board slightly with a scrap 2x4. Then your project piece can reach more of your miter blade and cut through completely.

    Hi There, good video thanks! Please consider adding one bit of advice; when making a bevel or compound cut it may be necessary to move the fence further out from the plate cut line to avoid fouling the blade. I overlooked this when practicing a 45 degree compound cut on my new saw and as a result cut the tip off the fence; I felt a bit of a chump afterwards as when you look at the blade position it’s apparent that the blade may foul. At the same time I was concentrating on positioning the work piece accurately to get the cut I wanted so it’s easy to overlook. I bet a lot of beginners do this when making their first bevel cut! ( anyone out there brave enough to admit they did it as well ? )

    • @TrainingHandsAcademy
      @TrainingHandsAcademy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, not yet GeMelle. Generally the blade that comes with the saw is great for cutting rough lumber like 2/4's, and is just OK on finish wood trim/plywood. If you plan on cutting a lot of wood trim, I would suggest getting a good 60 tooth cross cut blade... but try out the factor blade first and see how clean the cuts are. Let me know how I can help.

    I am plannijg to buy my first mitre sww. I am confused between Makita LS1040 and Total TS42182551.
    Both of them are of the same price, but Total has more power (1800W), sliding option, Laser, 5500 rpm etc.
    I trust Makita (I am happy with my makita circular saw) however, I have used 'Total' products before and it is good as well. Hence confused whether should I go with specs or the brand!🤔
    Your response is really appreciated!

    • @TrainingHandsAcademy
      @TrainingHandsAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Sony! It's tough... but if you have used both brands before and were satisfied, I would lean more towards the saw with more options. The sliding option is the game changer for me.

    • @soyythomas
      @soyythomas 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrainingHandsAcademy thank you so much for the response. The makita is far better than Total (which is a satisfactory performer) but again the sliding option created the confusion in me.

    Update. 12-11-2020:
    This test is only if you want to saw with a precision miter saw. (not for rough work).
    Tips and Test:
    Very important if you would like to saw with precision. (avoid torsion as much as possible)!
    Always choose a Miter saw with a handle positioned in a vertical line above the saw blade.
    Everything must be aligned, slide rails, handle, and saw blade,it is much better this way the blade will not tilt.
    Because there is some torsion in the aluminum housing .
    And choose an engine with softstart on it to prevent wear of the gear and worm shaft.
    It is very important that everything is aligned.
    Here are some examples to show how the handle must be positioned above the blade.
    Bosch gcm 800 sj / Bosch gcm 8 sjl / Evolution rage 3 / FESTOOL KS 60 / Bosch GCM 8 SDE / FESTOOL KS 60 E KAPEX / Metabo KGSV 72 Xact / Bosch PCM 8 SD / Hitachi C10FSH.
    (This also is the case with the Miter saw without the slide rails).
    (If you want). You can test it yourself at home if there is torsion in the aluminum housing.
    Step-1. First you make a saw cut from +-5 mm deep in to a flat piece of wood about +- 20 mm thick to this with the normal handle positioned on the right side of the Miter saw (the wood it will remain in place until the test is completed).
    Step-2. Then repeat this by pushing the saw blade down with your hand (finger) on the aluminum protective cover were the saw blade is cased in. Just now only do this without the running engine.
    Step-3. Now you can see if the saw blade will be positioned in or next to the saw cut. If the saw blade is (+- 0,2 / 0,5 mm) next to the saw cut then there is torsion in the aluminum housing (test is completed).
    Conclusion: Therefor it is much better to choose a Miter saw with the handle positioned VERTICAL in line above the saw blade.
    The second option is the handle positioned HORIZONTAL in line above the saw blade.
    Remember this, the test is only about torsion and nothing else how further away the handle is from the saw blade how more chance of torsion in the aluminum housing, you better not go for that. (the choices are yours).
    Also with a cheap slide miter saw it is still better the handgriff in line a above the saw blade than on the right side. Maybe they will make it someday then we have a winner...
    P.S. When you measure the vertical 90 degrees angle square (Digital Level Box) of you're sawblade don't forget that there is always some torsion in the aluminum housing.

    i have a question in my mind and still no answer . Im a DIY woodworker and a iron worker too and i really want to buy a miter saw instead of chop saw, is a miter saw good for cutting any kinds of iron and steel? what opinions can i get from you? Thanks a lot

    • @TrainingHandsAcademy
      @TrainingHandsAcademy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I don't know a lot about metal working, but I do know miter saws can cut metal with the right blade. Which saw is best for that, I'm not sure.

  • @breaktime919
    @breaktime919 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have heard this is an amazing saw. The hitachi. I found it new for about $600 out the door - worth it? My hang up is the capacity - miter and bevel capacity vs. New saws. And also the capacity of the blade.... but seems to me if a 10” saw can cut 4x12(at least I think it can do that much) what more would I need?
    Neither a 10 or 12 can cut a 6x6 either way

    • @TrainingHandsAcademy
      @TrainingHandsAcademy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the saw is totally worth it. I've had it for about 15 + years , and it still works great. It's been through a lot, as it has lived on job sites for most of its life. However, I will at some point upgrade to a Festool because I'm mainly in the shop now.

    • @TrainingHandsAcademy

      It might be getting caught between the blade and the cutout in the "throat plate". A zero clearance throat plate should help with that (if that's the issue, and it sounds like it.) You can always find me on IG send me videos or photos.

    Are you sure about lifting the wood up to the spinning blade like that? Seems like an easy way to get hurt. I suppose if you're using a saw without the sliding function it's certainly a way around it but in general just don't cut it if it's bigger than the width of your blade unless you have a sliding saw.

    Thank you, Sir. I am a real green newbie. I have to use my brother's Skilz Miter saw to cut some baseboards to finish up the hall closets. We had water damage twice. We paid someone to fix flooring and everything. However, they didn't finish. So, despite paying this said person, I have to finish my closets myself. It is insane that one pays someone to do the work, but in the end, you're either paying another to finish up or fix their mess or you're doing it yourself. You have eased a lot of my fear with this item. I will re-watch till I get comfortable enough to do my project. Thank you again.
