    Seth, if you're looking for a fast half marathon, check out the San Jose Rock n Roll Half. It's probably less than 100' of elevation change and is the home of the fastest HM run in California (sub 1 hour I believe). If you're running NYC next year, the SJ HM is about 1 month before NYC so it works out well as a training run before NY.

    I have a hard enough time keeping up when you so one a day so now to see so many in one day you are killing me - LOL
    QOD: As you know I have had a bunch of issues this year - one thing that is being recommended to me by the folks I am currently working with is around the area of Vertical Oscillation and Cadence. I am naturally a very bouncy runner, my cadence hovers around 160 and the thought is this has negatively affected me and been a cause to some of the injuries over the last year. Therefore, the question is: "Do you have any specific ideas on how to increase cadence in workouts?"

    Encinitas half at the end of March is not downhill with a few hills no higher than 90 feet. May be to soon after the trials but the 2019 first place was 5:00 minute pace. Runs right along the Pacific Ocean .

    The Cambridge Half Marathon is very flat!! Looped course that starts and ends at the Cambridgeside Galleria Mall. It was way bigger than I anticipated, but if you’re up front and fast, you shouldn’t have crowding issues. A few bottlenecks for the middle-packers like me, but great fun!

    If u are looking for a very flat half marathon course at the sea level ,take a look at Novo Nordisk New Jersey Marathon . Very flat course with only 2 small bridges to cross and virtually no hills . Right by the ocean :) April 28 ,2020 . Not far from NY either . Very nicely organized race as well

    Seth I found you comment on not negative splitting really interesting!! Almost all of the running community pushes the negative split philosophy, but I imagine your viewpoint is very valid/correct especially if your pushing to your full potential in a race. Grt vid!

    • @mattpotter8725
      @mattpotter8725 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get the feeling that he isn't saying he's against it, just that he knows where he's at right now, and coming from a more trail running background he's mentally able to push his body more to stay at a pace than to up it. I think he doesn't want to be in a position where he is behind where he needs to be and when it comes to a point where he needs to up the pace it just isn't there. There is also stress when you are at this point and this probably isn't good for good running performance. It's interesting though as what if the others he's running with are going for the negative split, but I guess he's talking to people about what tactics they're going for so this won't be a problem. I'd love to know his thoughts on this.

    Seth - The Monumental Half and Full Marathon had 39 OTQ's on November 9, 2019 here in Indianapolis, Indiana. Temps were in the mid to high 20's at the gun with wind straight out of the south at 8-10 mph. I personally set my half marathon PR by 3:20 (Net Time - 1:29:09) that I previously had achieved just 5 weeks earlier. 19 men broke 1:06, 13 broke 1:05, and 6 broke 1:04. I don't have FB or Twitter, if you have any questions about the course, I'd be happy to give you the layout, but short and sweet it's FLAT AND FAST

      @@alexish3751 This is a problem for me, I don't use and don't want to use Facebook, what with all the Cambridge Analytica scandal, I just don't trust them with me data. I prefer Twitter, and I guess you can do this, just use a hashtag. Is there one of these I can use? I can understand why Seth likes the FB groups, it gives him more control, but I think he needs to push his social media a bit more as it would drive people who don't come here to watch his videos at the moment here and in the end help him earn more money from TH-cam.

    Question: I've only been running seriously for around 4 months. How should a beginner approach creating their training plan? Planning to do a 10k trail on Feb 22!

    • @mattpotter8725
      @mattpotter8725 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you should be able to find beginner training plans for 10k online. I would search for these and adapt them slightly to suit your circumstances, for example if you can only run a certain number of runs per week, or if you start a plan and it causes problems, but that's what I'd do.

    Thank you Seth, the Adidas Boston Vs Nike next% is my question on twitter. I just bought the nike shoe, and took them for a run on the treadmill, the are super light and cushioned. One more week and i will run my first maraton in Mexicali Baja California, Mexico. (Dec 15)

    • @gonzayare
      @gonzayare 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nike Next% are a world of difference ahead from Adidas Boston. Even compared with Adizero Adios (faster shoes for 5k than Boston), Next% perform better even in shorter distances.
      In anything from 800m repetitions, 2000m repetitions, 10k tempo, 10k race to half and full marathon, your legs are gonna feel waaaaay better with Next% and you are going to be at least 3% faster, even if you are running at 5min/km pace without perfect technique.

      Un consejo, la hidratación es aún más importante que los tenis que llevas cuando corres en un ambiente tan cálido.
      Lleva una playera desmangada, no te saltes un solo punto de hidratación, corre con gorra y mójala por dentro en cada punto así como tus brazos y piernas.
      Hace poco corrí el medio maratón en Mazatlán (el 1 de Diciembre) y el clima destrozó a todos los maratonistas y a muchos del medio, más a los que no iban complemente mojados y bien hidratados.
      Tómalo en cuenta para que no sea una experiencia dolorosa. Saludos

    • @LuisBecerra79
      @LuisBecerra79 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Muchas Gracias por tus comentarios, mi plan es empezar a un ritmo de 5min el kilometro y los ultimos 15 tratar de bajar a 4:30 o menos el km. De hidratacion afortunadamente llevare mi propia hidratacion y no creo tener problemas ahi. Pero si llegase a necesitar algo afortunadamente tengo familia que estara apoyando ese dia. Una vez mas muchas gracias por el consejo, todo lo que pueda aprender antes de correr, es mejor que aprender durante la carrera.

    What is a good strategy in a race where your competitor has a great kick/sprint finish?

    • @mattpotter8725
      @mattpotter8725 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Isn't the answer to this to try and put him in discomfort before the final sprint, so try to run the finish out of him? By this I guess I would probably say you have to go from further out so that it isn't say a last 400m sprint, but a 1k or 1,500m finish. I wouldn't let them dictate the pace if you can help it earlier on either so try to go faster than they want to or feel comfortable with, but without putting yourself in deficit, you don't want to run the finish out of yourself either. It can end up though that you do this and they are still so strong that they stay with you and can still out kick you, in which case you'll know you've done your best, but they were just too good. Maybe also keep watching them to see how they are looking, whether they look good or not, even the best athletes have off days, in which case you might have the upper hand.

    QD: Hey Seth, I was wondering how much and how often you increase the mileage on your long runs. As a new and young runner I’ve been increasing my long runs by 1 mile a week and I’m wondering if that’s too much even though I’m feeling perfectly fine from doing so as of right now.

    • @its_Matt_B_
      @its_Matt_B_ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mind Sometimes we don’t realize it’s too late until it’s too late. Be sure you’re taking cut-back weeks in your training volume. For example, your long run may go 12, 13, 14 over three weeks. Cut back to 11 on the fourth week.
      Are you training for a specific event? This increase can’t go on forever so when you find a solid base that you’re comfortable with, stay there until you’re ready to start a specific training block!
      (I post all kinds of running-related stuff on my channel! 👍)

    Seth, I've noticed that you seem to "self coach". Do you think that you could take a step to the next level by having a good one (not that I think it's necessary, just that I imagine most athletes who get Olympic Qualifying Standard do)? I'm guessing this is more of a financial hurdle as it's a cost that if it doesn't add much isn't needed, and it's not just about having a coach, but having one who has a proven record, and that is probably costly.

    Best cross training for runners, I think is rope skipping. 1hour of rope skipping equals approximately 1hour of running. Rope skipping is good because you use upper body, back and arm muscles, what you normally don’t use as much for running. Best for calf muscles. Is very hard to do 1hour of rope skipping. You should do what you consider comfortable, maybe 5min if that’s what you can than work on increasing time.
