    • @nivyan
      @nivyan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@TV-Girl-Enjoyer It's the same mechanic as input buffering, I think it's called, in Tekkken. Ie. you can hold one button down, and press another and the game will register it as the first, then both. The difference is that Tekken' timing is infinite, and games that allow plinking is very short. It's to allow ex-moves and other multiple-button moves to reliably come out without being able to input buffer - plinking is a side-effect of that.

    • @TV-Girl-Enjoyer
      @TV-Girl-Enjoyer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@nivyan yeah button buffering is similar to plinking in the sense of how it's performed but I don't know a whole lot about 2D games. I'm a casual enjoyer. So JMC's explanation was really helpful in explaining what it is (which I knew coming in) and what it does (something that I didn't understand before)

    • @Bodied

    There are also two other things you have to appreciate about this combo.
    One, not only was Daigo able to do this absurdly difficult combo, and do it in a very tense tournament moment, but he had the wisdom in decision-making to go for it. In terms of the return you get for the resources spent, the second FADC is a bad idea in general. The reason it made sense to do was that they were in the third round of the fight, so as long as the combo lead to a guaranteed closing-out of the round, it was worth doing. In order to know that it was worth doing, Daigo had to be able to look at Momochi's remaining health and calculate, or at least accurately estimate, in his mind, that even with the combo scaling from before the dizzy, that it would do enough damage to either KO Ken outright, or leave him in guaranteed chip-out range, and he did so correctly.
    On top of that, the combo is exceedingly situational in terms of when you'll even have the option to do it. Very rarely do you get a dizzy or some other way of starting a combo with a jumping normal of your choice with 4 stocks of meter in the game, and usually it's preferable to FADC into Ultra anyway.
    So putting this all together, Daigo had to be intuitively familiar enough with the damage of a highly situational combo to recognize that even with scaling, it would do the damage he would need it to do to guarantee the third round. Then, he had to have good enough execution with the character to hit this highly-situational and extremely-executionally-demanding combo without any fear of failure, in a tense tournament moment, against one of the best SF4 and general fighting game players of all time.
    There's a reason he's one of the 5 Gods of 2D, and all the other top Japanese players always give him his flowers when they're asked about great Street Fighter players.

At one point he says, "They couldn't learn these sounds that most gamers could say in their sleep!" LoL Not that hard... Ha-Doo-Ken!....etc... It was so funny! Matt McMuscles, he says to the effect of, "They had an arcade machine on set, they would perform the move over and over so they could hear it. They had even written notes, spelling it out, phonetically...." There's like one more line, but the next scene is Ken doing a Dragon Punch, and all you hear is "Dragon! Dragon!" and even that it sounds like the very end of the word is cut off a bit... Ha! Ahhh, too good, too good.... :-D

All the people in the arcade have taught me what it does but I still could not grasp what it does fully but I did it anyway since I was playing street fighter. Regardless it was still extremely difficult to connect combos and to make that to a consistent and stable level? It’s just out of this world. That’s why these top level fighters still amazes me even to this day.

    I feel like people who can do stuff like that under pressure have the special ability to keep their state of mind and forget about what's around them. Sort of a zen state.
    I'm quite the opposite to that. I don't play games competitively but I can compare it to how nervous I get in rhythm games when I'm close to the end of a song with a perfect combo. Since I know I can't miss an input my fingers start to shake D=. I bet I would get destroyed under pressure in a competitive tournament.

    "Newer fighting game players might not know of"
    I always considered myself a "newer fighting game fan" due to how late I was introduced to them, but I watched this moment live... am I that old?

    This combo was basically another moment 37, just on offense instead of defense.

    “Normal human” implies Daigo isn’t human which is accurate.
