I remember years ago when video games were perceived as "just for kids". I'm about to turn 40 next month, and there were times that I've wandered if I'm too old to be into gaming. Lately though, I've seen people in gaming communities who are in their 40s, 50s, and 60s who still enjoy gaming. I guess it really goes to show you're never too old to do what you love.
I'm not far behind. I'll be 41 next month and I'm still not ready to admit that I'm getting old! I still feel like the same young kid who opened up his Atari 7800 all those years ago. Peace to all the 1973 babies. My brother turned in January. I got some years left before I hit the big 5-0, and I’m not trying to rush it. I came to this channel from the Spawncast, but I’m old school to my heart. The first console I played was Colecovision, followed by the NES, Genesis, SNES etc. I lived that era as I know you did. Peace and blessings to you MVG! I see health, wealth and more great videos in your future!
I'm about to be 25 in may and I'm really experiencing existentialism right now. I keep feeling like I'm running out of time. But you make the next 25 years look a lot more optimistic.
existential pondering is a natural part of the 20s, as is the constant feeling you’re running out of time. i’m turning 24 soon and i find myself thinking similarly to you, and often ruminating about the passage of time. it’s normal. don’t be afraid of the feeling, and try to enjoy the present moment as much as you can. and remember, we are YOUNG! all the best
@@fkyuga So true. Turning 40 seems scary for me but honestly I am full of energy and life, still feeling like I am in my 20's. Really pay tribute to where you are and take it in, look fondly into the past but don't dwell on them, relive precious memories but know you are the agent to create even more memorable moments yet to come. 25 feels like super young to me now lol.
That is a hole that is really easy to fall into. It dawned on me one day that, with all the things I wanted to learn and do "some day" ... I was slowly running out of "some days." Let that light a fire under your bum. You will start to narrow in on the things that matter to you, and learn to accept that you can't do everything. There are going to be people who are better than you at some thing you care about, and that's because they've prioritized that thing -- at the expense of something else. That was a hard thing to reconcile for me. It still is, sometimes. That's just part of the process.
@@fkyuga thank you so much for your comment! I didn't expect people to resonate with it so much but between what mvg said and what everyone else has said I'm feeling pretty optimistic.

It's hard not to get those ominous vibes, but watching a few long running channels make this kind of assessment over the years is starting to make sense to me as I get older myself. It's probably inevitable once you reach such milestones like the 1000th video, the 1.000.000 subscribers or turning a decade in life to take the opportunity stop and evaluate how the state of things and your own personal life, because you've been doing it for so long that you probably lose sight of where you stand and where you're going. Here's hoping that things continue to go smoothly for a long time and that the future brings more fun and fulfilling accomplishments.

Really appreciate the video. As someone who is approaching 30 and have yet to actually release a game, I have had the feeling of running out of time, the amount of games I can make is decreasing. Happy birthday MVG🎉 My 21st birthday was yesterday and it definitely feels both weird but also great to finally be a full on adult while you’re hitting what is essentially the half way point of your life. Been watching you since High School and will continue to do so for years to come.
@@juelz4516 anyone that has been an adult for a long time will tell you that 25 is "full on" adult. I turned 50 also this year, and I didn't think I'd make it this far in life. My mental health tried to take me a few times, but still, I rise. I have always used computers to help with my mind, all the way back to the ZX81 Spectrum days, through the Amiga and Atari, PC, PS1, and various consoles throughout the years. And now I use the XBOX SERIES X, as my main console, even though I have a PS5. Without computers, I would have lost my mind. It takes me away from the real world and just places me somewhere mellow. Keep your TH-cam going, it's so informative, and I love it. Thanks for what you do... And a belated birthday to you.
At 52 I looked in the mirror and fully realized that I had been extremely successful both professionally and with my personal investing. I sat my wife down and laid out that we have more than enough. I retired the day after that conversation and have never looked back. We made so many sacrifices along the way for children and chasing the brass ring. I don’t regret working (and saving) hard but thankfully I realized what was truly important before it was too late. I am healthier and more in love (and playing more games) than I have been since my early twenties and it feels great! My point of telling you this is to stress that retirement is not an end unless you let it be. Time is unrecoverable and there are no respawn points so make the best of every day. Happy birthday!
love this. i also made similar changes to my work life balance last year. doing too much and burning out. Happy birthday MVG, here's to many more. I'm about to hit 30 and this was genuinely really nice to hear, glad you're doing well. I suppose all anyone really wants is good health and life fulfilment and you seem to have both. Onwards and upwards!
Happy Birthday MVG! It's still hard to believe you reached 50 !!! You still look like age 42~45.
Happy bday, legend.
Thanks brother
I remember years ago when video games were perceived as "just for kids". I'm about to turn 40 next month, and there were times that I've wandered if I'm too old to be into gaming. Lately though, I've seen people in gaming communities who are in their 40s, 50s, and 60s who still enjoy gaming. I guess it really goes to show you're never too old to do what you love.
Happy birthday 🎂. This for some weird reason, made me way too emotional. You are truly an inspiration ❤️
It's really unbelievable that MVG started youtube in his 40s, Happy birthday
The channel started in 2007.. It's 2023. He stated it when he was 34
Why is it unbelievable?
Happy birthday! I celebrated my birthday a couple days ago turning 52. Feel good myself besides some neck issues from injuries when I was a teenager.
I'm getting older and you're calming my anxiety. Thanks for sharing!
I'm not far behind. I'll be 41 next month and I'm still not ready to admit that I'm getting old! I still feel like the same young kid who opened up his Atari 7800 all those years ago. Hope you continue to make videos for at least 20+ more years, MVG! It sounds corny, but you almost feel like a long time friend of mine.
Hey, I am a year older man than you next month, keep staying mentally young and healthy!
Feeling like a kid is a very good thing 👍 If only everyone retained their child nature this world would have been such a pleasant place to live.
You know what? Happy Birthday man. You've been on TH-cam since I started going into Jailbreaking and programming, and have been a huge inspiration throughout. I know you won't read this, but thank you for everything you do and have done throughout the years for the homebrew/modding scene. Keep up the amazing work, we're looking forward to each and every new video you put out! Hope you have a fantastic 50th, you deserve it! :D
Your work as a programmer and a TH-camr have been an inspiration to me. You hang out at all the online spaces I like to hang out in....since the olden days!!! It's just really cool to see a part of the original internet scene still together in one way or another. Thanks for making this video bud.
love your content. it’s been inspiring me for like 4 years now, tampering with old hardware is fun. happy birthday
Happy 50th Birthday! Getting old is a privilege denied to many! Great to hear you are doing very well mentally and physically.
Didn't expect to see you here Coi
@@Robocop_1987 I am omnipresent haha
55 myself a few months ago. It's good to see people in different age groups pumping out videos on these kinds of topics. Keep it up man!
I was slowly running out of "some days."
Let that light a fire under your bum.
As the saying goes, "get busy living or get busy dying."
That keeps me motivated.
Happy birthday!
Make sure to observe time for yourself, you've certainly worked for it. Really appreciate your expertise and the contents you've produced thus far.
You seem great for 50. Hope the next 10 years and beyond go great and you can keep providing great content for us
It's hard not to get those ominous vibes, but watching a few long running channels make this kind of assessment over the years is starting to make sense to me as I get older myself.
But hearing you talk about your 40s being as great as they have been, really helps me switch my perspective. So, thank you.
Happy Birthday Dimitris! Acknowledging that you've been in your 30s during the 5th and 6th gen of this industry feel such like a blessing, at least in my opinion. Your work as a developer and content creator is a useful blessing for both the main and hombrew scenes in the field. Glad that you are living in good health at this age and looking forward to your future until you'll feel it's the right thing to keep being here :)
Thank you for everything you've done MVG. You are the Ultimate double whopper of gaming content.
Congrats man! Your videos are great! Watching this video and hearing from someone who's a lot older than me really removes the angst of getting older that I've been struggling with! So thanks again, I'll continue watching your content for as long as you keep on making it!
Happy 50th MVG! And congrats on being an Aussie succeeding on the world stage
I'm happy you are well! You are a great personality in the gaming community. Not only with your knowledge but also as a person, you seem like a very very alright Human
What I've always loved about your channel is that it's you. It's not some huge channel with multiple employees making content happen. Love the privateer approach.
I never noticed until today just how majestic and immense MVG's eyebrows are
Yeah, he could be Brezhnevs brother with that.
As someone thats almost 20 years younger than you, I needed this video, thank you. Happy Bday MVG and congrats on all the success you've achieved!
You are a creative inspiration, I love the passion you put into all your work and you are a legend!
Happy birthday MVG🎉
My 21st birthday was yesterday and it definitely feels both weird but also great to finally be a full on adult while you’re hitting what is essentially the half way point of your life.
Been watching you since High School and will continue to do so for years to come.
18 was full on adult but ok.
@@juelz4516 anyone that has been an adult for a long time will tell you that 25 is "full on" adult. That's when you become who you truly are and your brain stops developing from childhood. 18/21 is just when legally you are an "adult". I'm pretty sure only those under 25 would argue against what I'm saying too. So I look forward to watching the children bicker.
@@juelz4516 To me, 18 years old is more so adult free trial or standard subscription. You don’t get all the perks of being an adult yet.
@@V1CT1MIZED my dad is 52 and even he thinks that 21 should be considered the age you become a true adult
@@juelz4516 😂God I wish. I'm turning 22 and I'm still figuring new shit and new responsibilities out. Most people who turn 18 at beginning will start to feel the weight of adulthood slowly creep up on them, but certainly not all at once
Happy birthday man thank you for all the great video game input and information!!!
Happy birthday MVG! I really like your attitude to making videos, content that you're happy with yourself often ends up being great in general. Massive respect, keep doing what you love!
I am approaching 30, and the weird thing about growing up is how I feel more and more connected to people of different age. Or more so, I guess we mature into a type of person, and we connect with people that complement who we are. I really enjoy your content, and that includes when you talk about your own experiences and life. Happy Birthday!
Once you get past like 25 everyone, regardless of your age, are your peers now. It's really weird at first because you still feel like a kid and a 60 year old treating you like a friend and not a superior is awkward at first, but it's so much better than when you are younger.
@@cltmckI’m about to be 27 and I’m wondering when I’ll not feel like a kid lol

Happy birthday! I’m turning 36 in a couple months and I’ve only just recently come to the realization that I’m closer to my 40s than my 20s now. Glad to hear you’re in good health and there’s more content to come.

Happy Birthday Mate , your channel is great!! Hope you keep on going !
Your content is such a gift! Hope it stays in my feed for years to come!!
Happy Birthday! Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Your content is amazing and is something I look forward to every week. I've been both educated and entertained for the last few years because of your variety of videos. And you've inspired me to dive deeper in to the emulation and homebrew scene. So for that, I thank you. I hope your 50s are awesome and I look forward to seeing what you talk about next! :D

I just turned 44 in January. I'm up there with you. Happy Birthday brother! Always appreciate you.
Happy Birthday man! I've always worried personally about growing out of my 20's & having not figured myself out yet in terms of where I want to go in life, but hearing you at 50 saying about how your past recent years have been the best for you gives me re-assurance that it's ok to have a slow start, and take time & care with thinking on what I want to do that I will enjoy 😊
Have an awesome Birthday whether it be with family, friends or just taking the day to chill out! No matter what content you do, we will be here for you man! Just keep up with what you enjoy; we would rather see you doing stuff you enjoy, even if it strays from the typical content you do!
Happy birthday MVG. Hoping you to live at least another healthy 50 years.
Happy birthday MVG !, your story is very inspiring 🙌🏼
Enjoy your retirement together with your partner, sounds like heaven :)
love this. i also made similar changes to my work life balance last year. doing too much and burning out. My body was telling me i needed to slow down so i did. sure the money is nice but as you say time is unrecoverable. retirement isnt for me quite yet but its looming. thank you for sharing your story.
Happy Birthday from Australia, man! Your love for the original Xbox and emulation is what makes me look up to you. I hope someday I can help others get into this space just like you have.
congrats mate. its a big milestone, and you should be proud. i'll be 40 next month too.... its scary AF.. but a big step in our lives.

♥️♥️♥️ We love your content MVG. Happy birthday! About your videos, we enjoy your "less produced" videos too! Not every video has to be very strenuous to make or highly produced, and if you can mix in the videos you work really hard on with easier to make videos on topics you still find interesting, that's still great for us because it means we get more content to enjoy and learn from. Hopefully that means less pressure on you
Since I had kids, I no longer stress about ageing. I can relive my youth through them.
